With DD we co slept for the first 5-6 weeks and then put her in her cot. I put her in horizontally to start with and had the changing mat in there at the other end. She hated her Moses basket and never settled in there (luckily we only borrowed the Moses basket) . We were lucky that she was such a good sleeper. We've just moved her into a single bed at 3yrs old so we've got the cot for this baby.

Pinseyboo38 · 31/01/2016 17:43

Loving all the talk on Moses/ cribs and cots. I'm totally bamboozalled by it all. I spent all last night googling and in still non the wiser as to what to do so keep it coming ladies lol
I'm also worried about my poor cat and how she will react to the new addition x

becky140290 · 31/01/2016 17:58

Hiya ;) I hope it's ok if I join you. I'm actually due 30th June but I'm sure it will end up overdue and into July. This is my second baby, my son is 14 months old and called Josef :) x

mascaraisamust · 31/01/2016 18:40

Been out for the biggest Sunday lunch! Three courses later and I can't move! Just had someone congratulate me in the bar as I'm they said I'm 'showing'. I wasn't so aware of my tummy, DH laughed and said I'm really quite big already Blush little bit worrying at 4 months!

Pinseyboo38 · 31/01/2016 19:36

mascara I'm 18 weeks today and definitely have a bump, no hiding it now lol. Just wish I could find some nice jeans as I'm currently wandering round with my normal jeans undone lol

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 31/01/2016 20:45

Just a quick shopping tip for anyone who likes a good bargain. I signed up to Amazon Family today (free for 30 day trial) and got some good discounts on baby bits. They're doing 25% of Tommy Tippee so I managed to get the Perfect Prep machine for only £45 (usually £90 in Boots when I've seen it). Also got the Medela Swing pump for only £85. There's loads of other bits so worth having a gander!

MrsRolly · 31/01/2016 21:04

Thanks for the shopping tips allthegoodnames, off to Amazon now.
I have been full of pregnancy rage most of today things that normally wouldn't bother me are making my blood boil and changes in plans I had made in my head sent the rage factor through the roof!! I am normally very laid back so have been further annoyed by being annoyed stupid hormones.. Plus poor DH although he is fairly unbothered and just waiting for me to return to my normal self.

I am not sure about next to bed sleeping, we have a Moses basket and I will get one of those amazing nursing rocking chairs and foot stools again for the nursery was a godsend for night feeds last time and meant DH could get some sleep so was more useful when he got home from work Smile

Thought I felt flutters today but only just 16 weeks so not sure if possibly too early.

Cookiesandcoffee · 31/01/2016 21:37

Evening ladies- loving all the cot talk. I would definitely recommend a cot bed over a standard cot. Lasts til 5ish! Although we are using ours for this DC so I have transferred DD2 into a full size bed early rather than buy another cot bed. Need to buy the mattress though. All babies are different - I had a gorgeous swinging crib but mine hated it. Loved a Moses basket but given my children have all been long they out grow them very quickly. Gro bags are fab! As was my swaddle pod thingy.
anna love your cot bed! No my over the bump ones are fine! I found the under bump ones make my podge stick over the top Blush
I have gained lots of extra weight I'm sure.
Off to look at these Aldi bargains..

birdandbee · 31/01/2016 21:51

Adding to the Amazon family tip that someone else mentioned.... It's free if you already subscribe to Amazon prime / Amazon instant (tv thing).... but you can save by subscribing to having regular deliveries of certain items like wipes, nappies and pregnancy vitimins without joining anything (subscribe and save).

We have decided to put the cot in our room initially, instead of buying a crib/ Moses basket too... Just about fits down my side of the bed. I'm sure I'm going to get sick of it taking up so much room but saves money for other things.... Aka for the bugaboo pram I like 😊

Movements very definite now!

julfin · 31/01/2016 22:01

Hey y'all, thanks for all the cot/pod tips - amazingly helpful. Think we'll use a sleepyhead for as long as poss - will resist getting a cot for as long as we can, as there's not much extra space in our "cosy" London apartment!

Is anyone else finding the second trimester harder than the first? I know I was lucky in the first trimester as my symptoms weren't too bad. But the last couple of weeks I've been a bit of a wreck - I don't normally cry easily but have been crying the last couple of weekends. And I'm really achy - tummy pains plus all-over aches a bit like bad period pains. It probably hasn't helped that I'm working stupidly long hours and dealing with lots of stressful issues at work - probably need to relax more - but just wondering if others were going through a heightened emotional roller coaster at the mo too?

I got some jeans from H&M, plus various other things there and in the sales at jojomamanbebe and Seraphine. They are FANTASTIC! My advice to anyone who hasn't yet, is to take the plunge early, rather than persevering with normal skirts/trousers. The comfort is wonderful, plus there are some lovely flattering styles too.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

mascaraisamust · 31/01/2016 22:06

Love Amazon got my registry on the go and I'm ticking things off. Got the Tommy tippee nappy bin from aldi for £8 today, £19 on Amazon though!

16 week midwife appointment tomorrow, hope they listen for the heartbeat. Find out the gender Saturday then!

mascaraisamust · 31/01/2016 22:10

Julfin I was sick this morning! Felt rough until about 4pm! I'm ill at least one day every weekend. I'm finding it hard to get comfy in bed, got a v shaped pillow but I just can't find the right position!!

julfin · 31/01/2016 23:01

Aww sorry to hear it, mascara. Glad you're feeling better now. Not nice though, this feeling-rough malarkey Confused

Scase1firsttimemum · 31/01/2016 23:19

Julfin, Im an emotional wreck too!! Its horrible I cry at the stupidest things and usually burst into tears over absolutely nothing! Bloody hell haha

My work have known Im pregnant since I found out, as I wanted them to be prepared for letting me have time off for scans appts etc.. But theyre giving me such long hours, had shorter hours when I wasnt pregnant I swear! Getting like 9 1/2 hour shifts and it kills me, I get put on a break 2-3 hours into my shift and then thats it for the rest of the day, on my feet all the time and its killing my back :( definitely getting more back pain now Im carrying more weight in my tummy and boobs!! It also makes me extra tired so all I do when I get home is wanting to sleep, and then I get called lazy by my OHs nan because Im sleeping a lot more even though Ive just done a full days work whilst shes been sat on her bum all day doing nothing :( I definitely want to speak to work about starting so early because I just cant do that anymore

Sorry about the rant.. Actually been able to get that out my system finally!

beckslovestimmy · 01/02/2016 08:35

Pinsey I have 2 cats and they were fine when DD came along. When I was pregnant they both followed me everywhere and always wanted to sit on my lap. Now they are both very tolerant of DD poking and prodding and pulling them around, they are very affectionate to her. For the first year or so I kept them out of her room but now most nights I find them asleep on her bed and when I kick them out they sleep outside her bedroom door.

julfin · 01/02/2016 08:35

Poor you, Scase. I think you should definitely have a chat with your manager about the rota. They should be able to give you shifts that are a bit easier for you to manage, with breaks in the middle.

Are you entitled to maternity leave from your job? If not, might be worth thinking about whether there are other jobs elsewhere, where you can have manageable shifts and not be on your feet all day?

Yes my crying bouts have been about ridiculous things. For example:
Because I had to carry the shopping home from the supermarket.
Because I could hear the neighbours' phone ringing.
Because DH fancied noodles for supper, when I fancied couscous.
Because CJ's dad (on the west wing) had Alzheimer's.
And yet I've been absolutely tear-free in (objectively) more upsetting situations, like last week when I was trapped in a horrible 20-storey office block at 10pm when the security guards had locked up and left...

felinewonderful · 01/02/2016 10:01

hello, I am 17 weeks and obviously showing now, this is my dc3 but I still think my bump is worryingly big! I might put a pic up later if I have the energy lol but wondered if anyone else is looking definitely pregnant at this stage?!

Bluebell20 · 01/02/2016 10:26

Hi feline, don't worry, my friend is only 13 weeks with dc2 and her bump is really big - she is very slim normally so I think the contrast makes her look 'more' pregnant!

Scase, please have a word with your boss about your shifts. If you don't ask, you won't get!

julfin being trapped in an office block sounds terrifying!

Cookies, I got some under the bump jeans from eBay and they are lovely until I sit down - then they just squash my flesh up into a roll. So I shan't be wearing those again. My aforementioned friend has some over-the-bump skinnies from H&M which she swears by, and I am going to be ordering some before too long as well.

Very excited this morning because I DEFINITELY felt baby moving. I was lying down in bed, and felt a kind of a throb... Put my hand down over where the baby is and waited very patiently, and got four or five more quite strong movements over a couple of minutes. So lovely :)

Cheery1 · 01/02/2016 10:31

scase definitely talk to your manager! Hope you get some better shifts.

feline I'm showing a bit - it's my first and it does seem that second pregnancies onwards show much quicker! I've got two friends due in May and the difference between the 1st and 2nd timer is amazing, they look months apart. I'm in a funny position with my job as I'm still trying to get bits of freelance work so quite glad I'm not showing too much. Obviously I'd tell employer once job is offered but wary of being upfront straight away.

I'm feeling generally better but definitely have days of feeling rough and soooo tired still but at least it's not everyday.

julfin yep, I know the emotional wreck feeling!

bird - ace tip on Amazon Prime - thank you!

Cheery1 · 01/02/2016 10:32

P.s. Whoever was saying they were eating for Britain - yup me too! So hungry all the time! Eeek!

Cookiesandcoffee · 01/02/2016 11:17

That sounds rubbish scase I would definitely talk to your manager about it and tell them how you feel. They might be able to change your hours. You should also be able to have regular breaks throughout the day. When I worked long shifts on my feet I had to be firm- especially later down the line. In terms of breaks, snacks, toilet trips, water etc. As although the my hours couldn't be cut, these things made it more bearable. If possible you might be able to request a chair if this is applicable?

feline over the weekend I've had several people 'comment' I'm 'big' . Also dc3 here. I think you show earlier but grow more gradually in subsequent pregs. I find a lot of it depends what I've eaten/whether I've recently been to the loo Hmm

bluebell I bought some h&m over the bump skinnies and I loved them - so soft. I just accidentally bought a size too big so I'm keeping them to grow into Smile a friend also swore by them! So lovely to have felt such clear movements. I had a similar experience Sat eve after scoffing down a huge portion of enchiladas. Wink
mascara sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish. Good luck for your midwife appointment and hope time flies by for your scan- how exciting
julfin I've become emotional all of a sudden. Cried hysterically this morning. Over DD getting shoes on. (Rushed/stressed/early start -but still!) your purchases sound lovely btw! And I totally agree, I'm so glad I've given in earlier this time! Comfort is everything!
birdandbee mentioned about subscribe and save.... I've been doing this with Pregnacare. I get it for about £13/14 rather than £20 in super drug. Also where its delivered I never run out and can't forget to buy. Have added wipes, will be adding nappies too. You can choose the frequency too. I'm stingy to pay for Prime but the nappy deals are really good that Iv seen - if you love Pampers will save you lots. (I won't use other nappies for nighttime)

18 weeks

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 01/02/2016 13:24

I'm fretting a bit about movements as I don't think that I've felt many/any over the last day or two. It's never been regular or very frequent though, and I know it's still early days really especially with a first baby.

beckslovestimmy · 01/02/2016 13:36

You I'm 19+6 with my second child here and there is no pattern of movement yet. I really only feel movement if I lay on my back and really concentrate usually when I first wake up and when I go to bed. I'll feel an occasional kick during the day but not much. I think they say you won't get a real pattern of movement until around 24weeks.

CultureSucksDownWords · 01/02/2016 13:46

Yep, I'm also only feeling movements when I lie down for any length of time, so pretty much just at night. Occasional movements if I've been sat down for a while but not very strong. It's still early to feel them, so please don't worry!

birdandbee, I've taken your advice about Subscribe & Save. We used it for nappies and wipes last time, but it just hadn't occured to me I could do the same for things like vitamins!

I work in Maccy Ds.. Not the best job but at the moment its earning me money and its my first ever job.. So I cant have a chair otherwise I would! I lean on the side a bit to take weight of my feet and I get told off for that -.- I want to talk to my manager anyway because of starting early but definitely will today talk to them. Today the shift manager forgot about me and Ive only just been able to sit down and have my break and something to eat!! (I bring my own food, no way am I eating this crap everyday!)

Also re about movement.. I sometimes feel little flicks in my stomach, low down where baby is likely to be sometimes theres a couple or just the one.. Could this be baby?
