youandme - culture and becks are totally right about movement. I felt nothing until about 22 weeks with my first and still feel nothing with my second at 17 weeks. Please do NOT worry for a good time yet! Hard I know when impatience mixes with anxiety mixes with hormones etc...

Had my glucose test this morning...should find out whether i have diabetes next couple of days. in the meantime i shall revel in the ignorance and continue my tangfastic habit...

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 01/02/2016 15:16

Thanks ladies - I know you're right! I think it is just impatience really...

Ellizardo I hope you get a good result from the glucose test. I expect I will have to have one myself a bit further on, as I am both overweight and have a family history of diabetes (both types!).

mascaraisamust · 01/02/2016 15:23

Ellizardo they aren't giving my diabetes test until 24 weeks, said they couldn't do mine until then Confused the midwife said if I feel low listen to my body if it wants sugar so hey, pass me the chocolate.

Youandme I've felt nothing since the random popcorn feeling last week, maybe I made it up Hmm

Midwife found the heartbeat as soon as she put the Doppler on, literally straight away! 150bpm. Now DH is convinced it's a girl. Soon we shall know (5 days)!

16 weeks today

mascaraisamust · 01/02/2016 15:24

And cheery it's me who is always hungry, ready today that we should be having 350 calories more a day now though! Thats why my belly won't stop rumbling for more!

Cheery1 · 01/02/2016 15:38

mascara - does it matter if it's 350 calories of cake?! I've a sweet tooth at the moment. Can't get enough cake or chicken weirdly!

Cheery1 · 01/02/2016 15:38

P.s. Lovely that you heard heartbeat tooSmile

Cheery1 · 01/02/2016 15:41

Aw scase that's hard being on your feet all day. I work in events some of the time and haven't taken those jobs recently as I can't face being on my feet for 10 hours. Really hope your boss sorts out your hours x

Cheery1 · 01/02/2016 15:44

Also youandme and mascara I haven't felt movement yet - my placenta is anterior and its my first so asked midwife who reckoned I start to feel something around 20 weeks. Was starting to fret but heard heartbeat so felt much better. Great to hear some more reassurance too Elizardo - thank you
17+2

primarynoodle · 01/02/2016 16:05

I checked my scan notes and at 12 weeks i had a posterior placenta, at 16+4 it was anterior low and at 16+5 it says anterior...

Ive felt 'bubbles' a couple of times but maybe i was imagining :/ apparently with anterior placentas it takes forever to feel baby movements and even then they arent strong so if you cant feel anything yet thats another possibility.
(Ive brought a doppler to compensate for this as i feel very hard done to by my stupid placenta! Grin)

On a side note i didnt know placentas could shift?!?!

CultureSucksDownWords · 01/02/2016 16:27

Apparently the placenta can grow upwards towards a better blood supply, which will in effect shift it up. Also, as the uterus grows bigger like a balloon being blown up, the placenta will seem to be in a different position, but really it's just moved with the growing uterus, if that makes sense! Like if you draw a dot on a balloon near the bottom, and then blow it up some more, the dot seems to get further away from the opening of the balloon.

mascaraisamust · 01/02/2016 16:55

Hmm I dont seem to have anything about placentas in my notes, I'll have another look, maybe I missed it. Well I feel reassured hearing the heartbeat for now Smile

Cheery 350 calories of cake is fine by me! Mine seems to be coming from from the six slices of bread I've just consumed Shock why????!!!

Ellizardo · 01/02/2016 17:35

youandme & mascara - re: GD, yes i think unless you've had it in your first preg, they test you later. they only realized with me with DC1 when they measured his belly around 28 weeks and it was abnormally large!
i met a nice lady in the clinic today having the same thing done (she was 20 wks and also had had it in her first preg) and she tests/tastes food for supermarkets so not sure how that would work if she ends up having it again!

Congrats on the heartbeat mascara and 350 calories on cake/bread seems totally reasonable.

Lulabells · 01/02/2016 17:38

Hi everyone! I'm glad others are stuffing their faces with cake. My sweet tooth is out of control, sweets, chocolates, oranges, icecream, maple syrup, fruit in jelly, muller rice and marzipan! Anyone else had any "cravings"?? Cake

It's great that lots of you are feeling flutters. Such an exciting time to be able to actually feel the baby. I've had quite a few weird feelings, like pressure and I can feel it shift. Probably all in my head as only 15 weeks tomorrow but this is my second!

Does anyone have any good breast pump suggestions? Preferably electric as i had a manual last time and my hand kept aching.

Oh I and sympathise with the hormones. I got very (very very very) angry at Asda self serve checkout the other day and came very close to smashing a HUGE glass of Nutella through the scanner! Rude staff, unpredictable till and naughty 2 year old did not result in a nice shopping experience! Angry

Pinseyboo38 · 01/02/2016 17:43

becksthankyou for that. I have been worrying as its been just me and the cat on our own how she will cope. She runs and hides when anyone comes for a visit. Her fab place to hide is under the spareness which unfortunately for her I will be getting rid of. She's just not used to noise lol
Glad to see the h and m jeans are getting a good review as I've just ordered a pair. Did everyone that has them order their usual size?
I'm 18+1 and everyone keeps asking if I've felt movement as I have a very obvious bump considering its my first. Was a bit worried I hadn't but reading here it sounds normal for first pregnancy.
Hope everyone's has had a good day xx

smallplainblonde · 01/02/2016 17:53

Hi ladies, it's been weeks since I've posted here but do read from time to time and it's lovely to see how you are all getting on. My due date was moved out to 23rd July so I'm quite behind some of you at 15+2. Amazing that some of you are feeling the baby move, I can't wait for that stage. I'm so happy to be in the second trimester and starting to feel a lot better. The only thing I'm struggling with now is lower back ache and I thought it would be far too early for that. I found it hard to sleep last night and it was sore in work all day. I work in an office and have a long commute so I know that's probably a big part of it. Going to go for a nice long walk with DH and the dog tonight and hoping that will help. Does anyone else have any other tips? Would a pregnancy pillow be a good investment?

CultureSucksDownWords · 01/02/2016 18:25

Lulabells I had Medela swing which was a decent machine, fairly easy to use and seemed to be effective. It wasn't as good as the big hospital pumps that I used, but not bad considering its size.

smallplainblonde I would definitely recommend a pregnancy pillow, if not now then soon, as it's so helpful when the bumps bigger and getting comfy in bed is harder. I found it hard to sleep on my left side (I usually sleep on my right), which you're supposed to do when the bump's bigger, so the pillow was useful for helping me to stay on the left side. You can also get back and bump support bands which might help with the back ache.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 01/02/2016 18:54

Hey ladies just back from a truly pampering weekend. DH and I stayed at a spa hotel and then today after checking out we went to watch The Revenant. Great film. Although very long.

On the subject of sleeping. I've always had baby in a Moses basket next to the bed which I use downstairs in the daytime. Then into at cot when they outgrow Moses basket. I've never co slept. I'm selfish and like my bed.

Mascara I have a massive bump. It's ridiculous.

Feline I have attached a bump pic to make you feel better. It can't be anywhere near mine.

Youandme definitely to early to feel regular if any movements with a first baby. I didn't feel my ds1 moving until about 24weeks. Even when you do feel it you probably won't tell what all the flutters are and may just mistake it for tummy gurgles. With a first you often don't notice until you get big definite kicks. I'm feeling loads of movement but I'm 17+3 with my 4th.

My bump feels so different this time. I'm so worried about my weight. It looks higher and I'm putting weight on rapidly even on my legs and lots on my hips. Usually I'm all out front and just bump SadSad

Ah lovely beautician, we are also doing a spa hotel break for a night in a couple of weeks - are treatments ok? Swimming only for me though!

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 01/02/2016 19:32

Mascara you can have most treatments. Only ones they need to adapt are facials & massage. Just different oils really and obviously for a back massage you can't lie on your tummy so most do it with you sitting on a stool and leaning on the couch. You can't use sauna, steam room or jacuzzi. I just swam and took the iPad to read a book at the side of the pool.

CultureSucksDownWords · 01/02/2016 19:53

Another question for Beautician if that's ok? Would an Indian head massage be ok? I thought it might be, as you'd be sitting and it wouldn't involve oils?

Scase1firsttimemum · 01/02/2016 19:55

This is my bump taken this morning! I have to be turned at a certain angle for it to look like a bump! My belly button creates what looks like a dip otherwise!

My doppler arrived todayGrinGrinGrin I al so in love with the sound of my babies heart beat!! :D cheered me up after a dreadfully long day!

Lovely bumps scase and beautician
Sounds like a lovely weekend too. Very jealous! scase have you found it easy to find heartbeat? Dd1 helped find the heartbeat earlier it was so cute. They shouldn't let you go much longer than 4 hours I don't think?

Copious slices of jam and butter on toast here. And I sacked off the gym. Lazy and greedy!
youandme I didn't really feel movements or have a bump til about 23/24 weeks with my first!
smallplainblonde I can't recommend a pregnancy pillow enough! I couldn't sleep on my left without one. I usually sleep on my back but was giving me really bad back pain (you really shouldn't do it) but I naturally roll over otherwise!
lula I think I felt my very first tiny moments at about 14 1/2 weeks this time so you might be right! Another vote for a Medela breast pump here. I had the Medela bottles to go with it and were great once I started expressing for DH to feed with. No nipple confusion. I'm glad for you the Nutella survived Wink no one wants wasted Nutella Grin

Lucia82 · 01/02/2016 20:20

Nice bump photos, and glad everyone had a nice weekend.

Had my 16 week appointment today, all well, and she warned me it could take a while to find the heartbeat but not to panic. She found it right away which I think made her day!

I asked about the heart beat per minute and sex thing. She said whilst it may be true, so early on all babies start fast at the higher end of 150/160 and generally drop as the weeks go on, and girls less than boys. She said it would only be accurate after about 34 weeks or so, much later on.

Scase1firsttimemum · 01/02/2016 20:39

Cookies- thankyou :)! No not long at all, is quite easy! Even found my hb right near babies hb :')

What do you mean 4 hours?

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 01/02/2016 20:50

Culture in theory an Indian head massage should be fine but you have to find a therapist willing to do it on a pregnant client. Some therapists prefer to stick to their pregnancy pampering packages or just pedicures/manicures/waxing etc. Have you had an Indian head massage before? They can make you feel quite bad afterwards but better about 24hrs later. Hope that helps Smile
