Oh and all babies are different, but I wouldn't struggle against a Velcro baby, I'd just carry it. My ds was carried a lot and is a super independent toddler, if they're clingy or nervous it generally helps them feel more confident, being carried, and then they are more keen to go and explore because they feel secure to come back to you, iyswim.

Scase1firsttimemum · 26/01/2016 15:08

Thank you for that Fuzzy! Ill look into a close caboo I like the sound of that one :)

Had my 16 week appt. briefly heard baby, upset she didnt hold it there for longer! She found it and pretty much straight away took it off and cleaned me up once she found baby! Didnt take long though and sounded healthy :) glad baby is okay after that nightmare! Also my uterus is higher than I thought!

AnnaT45 · 26/01/2016 15:39

Hello! I've got loads to catch up but just wanted to say at my 16 week I recorded baby heartbeat on my phone so I could play to DH. May be worth doing for those who haven't been yet X

CultureSucksDownWords · 26/01/2016 16:52

FuzzyDucker do you know if the Caboo NCT carrier is the same sort of thing as the Close Caboo?

Ah a nice thought Anna. Glad all the 16 week appointments went well. Scase understand your slight disappointment but at least you heard it, sometimes they don't even check for it. I hope they do for mine on Monday!

Scase1firsttimemum · 26/01/2016 18:28

Well after having the disappointment, decided to borrow my OHs sisters heart beat monitor.. Found two heart beats! One that sounded like babies at midwife and one a bit faster! Now booking a private scan for next Sunday! Haha

Pinseyboo38 · 26/01/2016 19:36

They didn't even listen for heartbeat at my 16 week appointment last week. I was so disappointed. Was in there all of 5 mins.
Scase don't forget you can sometimes pick up your own heart beat, baby's will be much faster then yours xx

Thom80 · 26/01/2016 19:39

Hi, is it ok to join the group? I am14 weeks and 5days, due on 28 July, after going through difficult IVF. As this is my first time, grateful for all the tips and advice. I am incredibly anxious/nervous about things going wrong so have only told parents & sibling.
Has anyone else been referred to a consultant about pre-existing chronic hypertension. They made me terrified about giving birth at 28 wks!

wantingno2 · 26/01/2016 19:59

Hey everyone sorry I've not been on moving is so stressful finally done just a few things to buy now then done hope everyone is well I have my scan on Thursday then my 16 week midwife appointment on Friday can't wait to see baby again x

Scase1firsttimemum · 26/01/2016 20:00

I need to ventAngry

So after getting excited about going to book a private scam for next weekend, my mum and two sisters are so against be going saying I shouldnt waste the money on going for a gender scan when it'll only be a couple weeks till 20 week scan.. I understand where theyre coming from that I need all the money I can get right now, but as soon as I talk about going to hair dressers and going to get my hair done they're like ohh yeahh thats nice and giving me ideas!! I can waste money on my hair but not seeing my baby!! Sorry ladies its really peed me off.. AngryWould you go for a scan with only a couple weeks to go anyway? Bearing in mind its my first?

Scase1firsttimemum · 26/01/2016 20:02

Hello Thom! Welcome Smile sorry you caught me in a bad mood haha!

CultureSucksDownWords · 26/01/2016 20:04

Hi Thom Smile I've been referred to the consultant, for several reasons, one of which being pre-existing hypertension. Have you had a consultant appointment yet? I had my first one at 16 weeks. I was wondering why you're worried about delivering at 28 weeks? Are you on medication for the hypertension?

Thom80 · 26/01/2016 20:08

I totally understand. My mum finds it hard to understand the need to book private scans. I have had three private scans so far, and booked one for just over 15 weeks!

Thom80 · 26/01/2016 20:10

I saw the consultant on Monday and she kept going on about the need to avoid giving birth at 28, which seemed obvious to me! I asked what I could do to avoid it and the answer was nothing, helpfully. Been on medication for years and seems to be working, at the moment. Although she said at this stage of pregnancy BP goes down.

CultureSucksDownWords · 26/01/2016 20:13

That's really interesting, as this time and last time with my DS, the consultant never mentioned early delivery as a possibility. The only reason I can think of would be if the hypertension is affecting blood supply to the placenta which can restrict growth, or maybe developing pre-eclampsia? But as long as you've got no other symptoms apart from the high BP then pre eclampsia isn't inevitable at all.

Thom80 · 26/01/2016 20:17

I am type 1 diabetic as well. That is reassuring, I wasn't worried at all, until I saw the consultant!

Pinseyboo38 · 26/01/2016 20:26

Scase it's your money and if that makes you happier then a haircut then go for it xx

Scase1firsttimemum · 26/01/2016 20:33

I know its my money, I just dont feel like I can go against what they're saying.. Im saving up money specifically for baby each time I get paid, so the rest is for me unless I have nothing to buy then the rest will be saved for baby or even our own place

Cheery1 · 26/01/2016 20:38

Hi Thom, welcome!

Scase - reckon you should spend your money how you want! If you want a scan have it. Glad apt was ok if a bit short - mine's on Friday as ever feeling nervous about it.

If we're in a venting mood - had a crappy day. Got turned down for a freelance job that I'm overqualified for and didn't even want but need to earn as much as I can pre July, thought I might turn them down if another job works out - that'll teach me! Feeling a bit useless now. Also MIL (who had backed off a bit of late) is starting to email/phone DH every day again. It took so long for her to leave us be a bit - e.g. phoning on first night of our honeymoon knowing full well that we'd be out for dinner and DH picking up the phone leaving me to eat starter on my own. Massive argument afterwards, and we've made progress since then. Worried being a grandma is going to give her an excuse to be overbearing again. His family are so full on and although I'd never want them to feel they aren't a big part of our and our baby's lives, I just don't want them taking over. I don't have any living blood family (two amazing Godmothers and adopted cousins) so it can be tricky to find a balance. Rant over!!!Hormones don't help either!!!!

Anyway, hope everyone has a lovely eve. Elizardo - hope yoga was good, I wish I had a class tomorrow, could do with it!

Scase1firsttimemum · 26/01/2016 21:03

Ahh you'll be fine! It was just reassuring to hear baby even if it was briefly! After getting myself in such a worry about baby not being okay just helped settle me :)
Ill have to have a proper think about it.. I may go for one later on in pregnancy so I can see what my baby will look like Grin and just to see it one final time before bringing it into this world! For now I shall focus on pampering myself I think!

Ellizardo · 26/01/2016 21:06

Cheery - sorry to hear about your mil...fingers crossed she gets the message and leaves you alone!
Yoga was awesome, teacher was 28 weeks preg herself so really inclusive class (only 3 of us there!) and great for stress and tension relief..sending you positive vibes (man!). Doing Pilates on thurs.

16+2

Cheery1 · 26/01/2016 21:26

Thanks Elizardo - it's just a tricky balance the old inlaw relationship! Glad yoga was lovely.

Cheery1 · 26/01/2016 21:27

Thanks Scase too - I'm just an old worry wort! Smile

minieggaddict · 26/01/2016 21:35

Scase - better to regret the things you have done than regret not doing things! If you'd feel worse waiting for the 20 week scan then go for the private one.

Cookiesandcoffee · 26/01/2016 21:36

elliz sounds a great yoga! I'm struggling to find one in my area. Only one I can see clashes with one of the classes I teach. The downside to working at 7pm several evenings a week.
Felt really quite sick whilst at work tonight, really awkward with a room full of people all eyes on you Confused struggling with my core work.. Think I need to YouTube pregnancy yoga...

Exciting all these 16 week appointments! Mine feels forever ago now. I also recorded my heartbeat on my phone (DD1s request) and was such a good idea!

scase it's your money you don't have to justify yourself or let other people tell you how to spend your money. Do what makes you happy Smile

Welcome thom

Have yourself a nice treat tonight vikki that sounds very draining. Look after yourself and take the time to rest.

Hope the move has gone well wanting and not too stressful
