Youandme I missed that Sad so sorry to hear about your dad, you're being extremely strong especially with the distance but your mum is right, you need to look after yourself at this delicate time and I'm sure you'll be there when she needs you over the phone. Hoping you have some positive news soon x

pulpi · 21/01/2016 18:49

Youandme, sorry to hear about the rough time your dad is going through. I'm familiar with the feelings you're having about being so far away (half our family is in Spain, the other half in Canada) when a parent is poorly, so I'm sending you hugs and Flowers from up here in Fife.

Bluebell20 · 21/01/2016 19:21

Happy birthday Beautician. Flowers Hope you've had a lovely day.

YouandMe, what a horrible situation. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad's condition. I'm really glad that you've had some good baby news to buoy you up a bit.

Just chatted with my husband about getting some nice trips and treats in while we can. Think we've got a couple of London theatre jaunts on the horizon. And I've just made plans with my friend to go to the Warner Bros Harry Potter thing, which I've wanted to go to for years. Any other suggestions, guys?!

CultureSucksDownWords · 21/01/2016 19:29

Bluebell, going to see bands, and going to the cinema a lot is what I would do if I were child free! Paying for a babysitter really dampens my enthusiasm for going out. Also, going to very grown up things like exhibitions and museums and being able to concentrate on it rather than have half a mind on baby all the time.

Beautician, happy birthday!

Youandme, I hope things go as well as they possibly can for you and your dad.

So sorry to hear about your Dad youandme - hope you get some good news soon x

mascaraisamust · 21/01/2016 19:33

Bluebell such a good idea, this is #1 for us and I'd like to enjoy our time as a couple too. Jealous of London, I might look for a few shows!

Cheery1 · 21/01/2016 19:33

Happy Birthday beautician! CakeChocolate

pulpi · 21/01/2016 19:35

Bluebell, we're planning a sneaky trip over to the Netherlands to visit some good friends. But as DH is off to Japan for 2 weeks in February (research trip - the joys of academia), it's more likely that we go in March. Once his schedule eases up in May... well... that's the third trimester and maybe a trip to the Edinburgh Ikea will be the height of excitement.

Cookiesandcoffee · 21/01/2016 19:39

youandme I'm so sorry to hear about your dad that does sound like a stressful time and your mum is probably right.
Happy birthday beautician ChocolateCake enjoy the chocolate. Mmm..
You're definitely right bluebell you need to make the most! we never pay for babysitters and since MIL has been poorly no one really has the children. Cinema, museums, a concert (while you're not too big) or even if there is a place you wanted to go to but hadn't. Well done on your Pilates! I find it hard to self motivate at home so well done! I hope it was relaxing after a long day. Good news on the commute too. Hope it makes it more bearable for the next few months.
My 'bump' has done the same today- went to the loo this morning and it's literally gone. I don't feel pregnant and some what a fraud.

scase mine are yet to but I'm sure it won't be long. They already feel like they're starting to engorge with milk a bit Blush I really really need to go bra shopping. Breast pads are a must! I preferred some brands to others, if I remember the good ones I will post!

Scase1firsttimemum · 21/01/2016 21:40

Ive just got some basic ones for now seeing as Im a little uneducated in this department being my first! If theyre not comfy Ill get some others! Cant believe it they've started already! Just weird I was dreaming about breast feeding a baby last night!

CultureSucksDownWords · 21/01/2016 21:44

Scase I used washable bamboo ones last time, which were extremely comfy and effective.

Fourormore · 22/01/2016 07:23

Lansinoh breast pads are really good - I leak like anything once my milk comes in and they don't let me down like other brands.

Belated happy birthday Beautician, I hope you had a wonderful day!

Lucia82 · 22/01/2016 08:24

I'm really interested in trying reusable/bamboo or etc nappies and wipes etc so if anyone has any advice... I plan to give it a go at least as I just don't feel easy about the amount of plastic and bleached cotton gets thrown away in landfill. I'm not much of an eco type, but my mum used terry towelling nappies and the modern pre made reusable ones look really great. I believe also that though initial outlay may feel expensive they cost less in the long run...
However. My ethos with all these baby things is to give it a good go and adapt as I go along!
15+1

minieggaddict · 22/01/2016 08:53

I'm the same as you Lucia I'm not all about eco friendly stuff but my conscience felt better with washable nappies! We bought a trial of Mio bambino nappies for about £10, got on well and bought the kit. Folded cloths inside a plastic 'wrap' with a flushable liner. Great in the day at home but used pampers at night and when out as I didn't relish carrying dirty cloths about with me. Stuck em in a lidded bucket in a net bag and bung that in the wash at 90 with decent stain remover and washing powder and had no prob apart from the odd leak (but had that with pampers too when dd did a poo-nami!).

Ellizardo · 22/01/2016 08:54

Lucia - very admirable approach. I have to say I never did it but my best friend is about to have her first next week and she's doing the whole reusable nappy/wipes thing so will keep you posted on her first 6 months and let you know!

Jem01 · 22/01/2016 12:36

Youandme so sorry to hear about your dad.
Lucia - it hadn't even crossed my mind using reusable nappies, will definitely look into this..
Happy belated birthday beautician!

Berrylandsmum · 22/01/2016 12:59

Hello, just thought I would pop in and say hello.

Have been lurking about reading posts for a while - hope everyone is doing ok :-)

I'm another first timer, due on 5th July, and just had my 16w appt this morning, now a bit more relaxed after hearing a heart beat again (12 week scan seems ages ago!)

AnnaT45 · 22/01/2016 13:45

Hello! I wonder if I can join too please? I'm 13 weeks with my second. I have a DD who turned 1 at Christmas so will have about 18 months between them ... Eeeekkkk! I hope I can offer some advice and support to first time mums BrewThanks
Scase what are you worried about in particular? I think pregnancy is funny as most of the time you don't actually feel pregnant! Then you get a pain from ligaments and you worry. Please try relax. Just remember you've a very high chance everything will be ok!
Re reusable nappies, good for you! But def get some disposables. There will be some days when they poo so much you won't be able to wash them all!
Hope everyone else is well!

Jem01 · 22/01/2016 14:12

Welcome both! Don't forget to add your details to July Stats thread Smile

Scase1firsttimemum · 22/01/2016 16:16

I just worry that Ive had a mmc, but then I got a new symptom of leaking.. I think because its my first and I really can not wait to be a mum I just want everything to go smoothly! I may be the youngest in the group but I feel like Im ready to bring a new life into this world who will be a pleasure to be with :) (I strive to be as good a mum as my sister is with my nephew!) also welcome haha!! Always lovely to have new people joining:)

And in other news, my pram arrived today! Was a struggle to get the wheels on but its all together and I love it!! Making me even more excited :D

Cheery1 · 22/01/2016 16:26

Aw scase you'll be a brilliant Mum! Believe me the worrying is no different if you're an oldie like me! First pregnancy is full of anxieties for us all - and I dare say for ladies on 2nd,3rd, 4th time. We're all on the crazy ride together - I reckon all the worry is good practise for the next 18 years as a parent!

Welcome berry and anna, lovely to have you join in Smile

felinewonderful · 22/01/2016 16:27

hello ladies, not been on here for a bit but hope you are all ok. I am 15+5 today and have received a letter for an appointment with a consultant as I had lletz treatment a year or so ago for abnormal cells. I asked about trying for another baby at the time of treatment and they said it was fine and to go ahead so long as it was 6 weeks later. Anyway I didn't try for while after the treatment and my midwife at my GP didn't think it would be an issue during pregnancy but I had an antenatal appointment straight after the 12weeks scan which was fine but I have been referred presumably to check my cervix. I only had 3mm removed which is apparently not very much but I am now in a state of anxiety and panic. Has anyone else been in this position?

Cheery1 · 22/01/2016 16:27

In other news I seem to actually have a bump - still mostly looking chubster but I know it's there!

AnnaT45 · 22/01/2016 16:56

It's perfectly normal to worry like that. So many weird things happen to your body you don't know what's normal or what! Sounds like you're going to be a brill mum just focus on the lovely things like the pram. Smilewhenever you feel worried Moan here, I find most people don't really understand it apart from those who've been through it!

Thanks for the welcome! It's nice to share this with people who don't get bored talking about it Grin I ordered some dungarees from Asos that I've just tried on! Love them but look like a decorator!! Not quite in the mat jeans yet but not far off! Showing way earlier this time round! Hope everyone has nice evenings? I'm off a girls night at mates for a Chinese! Get to tell them my news so excited!

Cheery1 · 22/01/2016 17:29

Jealous of your dungarees and the Chinese Anna! Which asos ones did you get? I'm so tempted by black jersey ones but won't be able to get them for a while!
