Scase - no it's only doctors. And it's only those doctors who choose to strike - some will and some won't. Your midwife appt shouldn't be affected as all other services should be running normally.

Cheery1 · 16/01/2016 09:46

P.S. 15 weeks today

gnat99 · 16/01/2016 09:59

Glad to hear! That was misery was all worth it Wink Panic over then. I'm not surprised you reacted the way you did - I would have done the same.

DH got chickenpox last year too, we both caught it from my niece. He got it much worse than I did and was very ill and miserable. He decided to watch both series of Twin Peaks - every time I got home he was spottier and more square-eyed. A few months ago we were driving somewhere and the theme tune to Twin Peaks came on the radio - he came over all itchy!!

DH had chickenpox this time last year as well, gnat! We were down in Spain visiting the family and ended up stuck there an extra two weeks because of it. Our nephew had it, his parents knew he had it, and they still brought him around us without any qualms or warning whatsoever. MIL insisted DH had chickenpox as a child and so wasn't at risk. A week later the spots appeared and I knew they were chickenpox, but MIL was all "it's measles, it can't be chickenpox because he's already had it". Crazy Spanish MIL. I cannot even begin to describe how crazy, superstitious, and stubborn. Turns out he had two spots as a child, never a full case. Finally, a cousin who is a GP looked at him and said "oh yeah, that's chickenpox". Then MIL believed her (I know nothing, apparently). So the poor DH was head to toe spots. Everywhere. And a brutal fever to match. The chickenpox on the balls and a high fever is why it took us so long, I think, to fall pregnant.

Still a little annoyed that SIL and BIL never ever blinked an eye or apologized for putting us in this position.

That's annoying alright Pulpi! Sorry to hear you think it affected your conception. At least that problem has been overcome now Smile

Exactly, gnat, and I can't say we didn't have fun in the 11 months of trying and trying and trying!

Lucia82 · 16/01/2016 11:13

Morning everyone, hope you all have lovely weekends planned. I've got cravings for roast chicken now!

Had my first nhs scan yesterday, dating and nuchal.... Or at least it was supposed to be. Due to Christmas and new year everything has been slow to book, so instead of being 13+6 (or 13+5 from pre Christmas private scan) baby was measured as 14+1. Making nuchal measurement pointless.

What's more, the blood test for post 14 weeks has to be done 14+2 so I have to go back in the week to get bloods done.

Frustratingly awkward- I'm guessing baby is a girl based on this!

Loving all the hints and tips from everyone, I need to start making some lists!

gnat99 · 16/01/2016 11:34

Glad your scan has come round Lucia, sorry you feel frustrated about the nuchal. At least you're further along than you thought Smile

Like you, I need to start making lists - will have to reread all the posts from the experienced mums here about slings, buggies etc!

Enjoy your roast chicken if you get it - we're having unspecified take away this evening - MiL doesn't like curry or Chinese so I'm guessing it will be pizza or fish and chips. I can live with that! Haven't had a curry since being pregnant though, will have to remedy that some time soon.

pulpi · 16/01/2016 11:49

Oh a curry. I'm fantasizing about chicken tikka masala. And peshwari naan. Oh and some onion bhajis. The only thing that's stopped me is that I'm worried about the heartburn.

FuzzyDucker · 16/01/2016 12:59

15 weeks today so it looks like we're due date buddies cheery!

Sickness easing, but a fair bit of gagging this morning as I cleaned the toilet (it wasn't even bad!) and then half an hour later ds did a poo on the carpet in the 15 seconds he wasn't wearing a nappy. Doh. Bleurgh.

Bump expanding. Much bigger than last time, which isn't promising as I was neatly small until the last few weeks last time and then birthed a 10lber to surprise everyone. What's all this about second babies being bigger! puts fingers in ears

Damnit I can't remember your name but lady with short cervix (catchy, that) please try not to stress yourself out, tell your midwife how you feel and I hope you get some advice and reassurance. A friend of mine had her cervix prolapse with her 3rd and 4th children and they were both perfectly fine, just listen to the Drs xx

Thistledew · 16/01/2016 13:11

I was all set this morning to post a picture aligning myself to the small bump club. I don't think I have much of a one and although DH and family have said they have been able to see it for a couple of weeks I don't think it is that noticeable.

But I went for my regular acupuncture appointment today, not having gone since before Christmas, and the receptionist spotted the bump! Maybe my winter coat puffs up.

This is DC#1 for me, and I am quite tall at 5"9.

I am 13+1 today by my dates or 13+6 by the scan measurements.

lucia glad your scan itself went well even if measurements couldn't be done. Really frustrating with the dates. They tried to make me have mine at 14+1 and I phoned and demanded an earlier one. Shame you didn't know. I also had a roast chicken craving and made a roast on Thursday eve!
bluebell glad you're all ok, no panic! My DDs have been around children the last few weeks who I have been told today have come out in pox. Luckily I had a very obvious case at 2! Lovely bump by the way!
thistle you are very petite with a lovely little bump too. I must post mine but I'm a tad more chunky I'm afraid.
fuzzy wow to the ten pounder! Sometimes they don't look as much as they weigh though?! Dd2 was 8lb4 and was small- and still is. Joining you on being bigger this time.
pulpi that's exactly what I had! Minus the bhajis. Was so good. Until I got home and dd1 had been sick everywhere.

Got our private gender scan tomorrow! I feel like I won't sleep tonight with excitement/nerves.

Cookiesandcoffee · 16/01/2016 13:46

Ps I think my bum is growing as quickly as my belly Blush

Cookiesandcoffee · 16/01/2016 13:47

15+5

Bluebell20 · 16/01/2016 14:16

Thanks Cheery - I love my ridiculous leggings, too! I actually rather naughtily wore them to work yesterday, under a dress. My class of five-year-olds loved them Wink.

Horrid chicken pox stories! Really glad I had it when I was a wee'un. As you say, gnat, well worth it!

Frustrating scan for you Lucia, but glad that you aren't letting it get you down. The week will go quickly!

I'm amazed the receptionist spotted your bump, Thistle! I suppose though if people know you quite well then they will see changes like that a mile off.

Cookies, your bum must have been tiny before because it doesn't look very big now :). Lovely bump. I'm awaiting my maternity jeans with impatience - yours look great!

minieggaddict · 16/01/2016 14:58

Have to say these bumps are all very neat. I looked like that before even being pg! No wonder some people asked me even tho I wasn't (has to be about the worst thing anyone ever said to me!) Blush so here's mine at 16+4 last night so I was at maximum bloat and alot bigger than 1st time round.

minieggaddict · 16/01/2016 14:59

2nd time lucky maybe!

Cheery1 · 16/01/2016 14:59

fuzzy - hey date buddy!

Cookies - Your bum is not in least big, as Bluebell said it must have been mini to start off with. My pregnancy is mostly on my bum so far - as my Godmother said it'll balance you out as you get bigger. Hmmmm, I really am going to be a beach ball on legs at 5'1…ah well.

In other news, I went to my first prenatal yoga - it was so lovely! Can't recommend it highly enough if anyone has time or funds to cover it. Lovely to meet other expectant mums that live near by too. Smile

Magickal · 16/01/2016 16:22

Hello all. Hope everyone is ok. Lovely bump pics.

Are you all still shattered? I'm so tired!

pulpi · 16/01/2016 17:13

Magickal, I just power napped for 2 hours. Am now waiting took watch The Revenant, but fully expect to sleep through it.

pulpi · 16/01/2016 17:14

Forgot to add, my wee bump pic. It's 90% pasta.

I have tummy ache, not sure if it's indigestion?! Never had indigestion before?! The garlic bread hasn't sat well Hmm

I'll try post a pic of my bump soon, I swear I can see some light stretch marks Shock

Kentnurse2015 · 16/01/2016 20:05

This is my bump at only 12+3. My daughter was pretty small at 6lb 13. Not sure about this one though!

gnat99 · 16/01/2016 21:17

Mmm, fish and chips Smile

Worth the indigestion.

Kentnurse - that's pretty impressive for 12 weeks!

Cheery - inspired to do preg yoga now. Will look into it. Def need to do something...so taut and twangy as my mother would say!
