gnat - oh lord, the constipation is awful! I sympathise!

Cheery1 · 14/01/2016 09:29

Glad that other ladies aren't showing much, was starting to worry that I have very little bump. Actually looking forward to showing a bit more, I'm definitely looking a bit chubby.

birchybaby2 · 14/01/2016 10:12

Hi ladies, can I join you? Have been following thread for a while but also wanted scan to confirm everything was ok. Official date now 18th July but midwife thinks I'll be induced a week early as "I'm old"!! Great I'm only 40 but did have a miscarriage/ectopic back in September. Think we are mad to try again as our daughter is now 7 but didn't like her being an only child. Luckily she is very excited at though of being a big sister. Xx

Cheery1 · 14/01/2016 10:25

Hello birchbaby! Welcome! I'm an only child and remember being obsessed with having a big sister when I was about your daughter's age - I even told my teacher that my Mum was expecting a baby, that was an awkward chat at parents evening! Sure your dd is over the moon Smile

Cheery1 · 14/01/2016 10:45

Question for the ladies that on on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th time! I got a letter saying that I need to repeat my urine test. Phoned midwife and she said that a bug showed up but not urgent to re-test and to wait until appointment on 23rd, as long as I've got no symptoms (don't think I have but difficult to know amongst all the pregnancy weirdness but pretty sure that I don't have cystitis having had it many times). Anyone else had experience of this? Should I just go and do a repeat test anyway?! Not even sure what the risk are if I did have a bug. Argh!

Scase1firsttimemum · 14/01/2016 11:30

Cheery I had that at my bookkng appt gave a sample and almost a week later was getting calls from doctors and hospital saying I need to re-do my sample as it was inconclusive, gave another one in the same day as they called, got a call the next day and everything was fine :)

Cheery1 · 14/01/2016 11:33

Ah that's encouraging Scase - I had my appointment on 29th Dec so it's taken a long time to come up with a bug! Bit late in my opinion, not great but hey ho. Thing is hospital is a schlep so I might see if I can do one at my GPs Smile

FuzzyDucker · 14/01/2016 11:41

cheery I think you can drop one in to your GP, they send them off to the hospital or something afaik. If it's taken this long for them to get back to you it's probably not something to worry about.

Cheery1 · 14/01/2016 11:46

That's my instinct fuzzy but I'm a worrier so I'm going to drop one off at GP for peace of mind. Thanks for reassurance ladies x

Cookiesandcoffee · 14/01/2016 13:13

Lovely little bump jemimah so cute. Mine comes and goes and I don't even feel like it's 'food baby' related.
cheery I'm sure there's no need to worry but pop a sample in for peace of mind
Welcome birchbaby thanks for joining us.
Hope your appointment goes well today youandme. Even if you don't get any answers today hope you do soon. Keep us posted.
gnat that sounds a stressful evening! If I were you I would be making DH pick me up all the time Grin I find by this point in the week my lower back is hurting (probably from doing too much) I've exercised for the last 5 days in a row and my body is crying out for a rest.
Hope the scan goes well pulpi will be thinking of you. Let us know how you get on Smile

Pinseyboo38 · 14/01/2016 13:48

Back from mw appt and heard baby's great beat, which was lovely Smile

For any worriers like me the mw said to ring anytime I'm worried as all the mws have dopplers so they'll happily have a listen anytime.

minieggaddict · 14/01/2016 15:42

Meant heart beat but it was great lol!

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 14/01/2016 16:30

Sort of no further on, as I expected.

Sonographer said my cervix measured 2.4cm, so "a bit shorter than normal". She asked when I was next seeing the midwife (next week) and then said I would be rescanned, probably at 20 weeks. I am still very worried: I know that under 2.5cm, especially so early, is not great. However, I also know that they key thing is not so much the length of the cervix, but whether or not it shortens, or opens. She said there was no sign of funnelling and everything looks tightly closed.

Saw baby briefly - it gave us a little wave. I'm feeling very upset now: I'm struggling with the feeling that if something goes wrong now and I miscarry it will be because my body has failed to keep baby safe.

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 14/01/2016 16:50

youandme can you ask for a cervical stitch straight away or do you have to wait until next scan? If you're really worried about it then insist on a stitch now so at least you have that reassurance maybe?

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 14/01/2016 16:59

I will speak to the midwife, but I think a stitch carries risks of its own and it seems that these days they are keen to avoid them in as many cases as possible.

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 14/01/2016 17:08

oh I see Thanks it's tough all this worrying Angry if only pregnancy could be simple. I have my appointment with the consultant on 26th Jan to measure my cervical length as well - it's all so scary. Try to remain positive until your next appointment and hopefully it will all be ok.ThanksBrew

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 14/01/2016 17:26

Thank you for the nice bump comments ladies but I really am overweight. It's really getting me down as only two years ago I was so slim. I still have ages to go as well. I'm going to look awful after.

Magickal I had my flu jab really early on before I had even seen the midwife.

April welcome. Glad you've been brave enough to post. It's nice to have somewhere to speak to others for support.

Fuzzy thank you for the sling advice. I think I will give the close caboo another go. I found a lady on Facebook that does occasional sling libraries in my area so she is going to let me know of the available dates after baby has arrived.

Birch welcome

Cheery I won't repeat too much of what others have said but you will probably find your next test comes back clear. I have had infections a few times in previous pregnancies and never any problems. I had severe cystitis in one and I had to go to out of hours as I was in agony but a prescription of antibiotics cleared it up right away.

Youandme have you told the midwife/ doctors exactly how you are feeling and all your concerns. I'm sure they will be able to either reassure you or offer some sort of alternative.

I have started a new job this week. I had to give my beauty room up as the owner was vile & speaking to me like I was an employee. She may take me to court for rent I hope not. But I had no choice. I can't afford to pay rent when I'm not making any money. I didn't realise how hated she was in the town so people are deeply apologetic & say they would love to come to me but can't as they cannot stand her. Anyway the new salon is fab but there is so much massage. I'm going to have to tell her that I need a bit of a break between them. My body aches all over as its like a workout for the therapist. I'm still self employed but I'm making money at last Grin

I've no idea what to do about returning to work. I think she only wants me to take about 3 months. That's all well & good but we have no family around to help us out. So I will be paying out for at the very least the toddler & babies childcare, possibly after school care for the older children as well.

Hi everyone! I hope you don’t mind me joining the thread at this late stage but I’m due late July and wanted to get past the 12 week milestone before fully believing that this pregnancy might actually work! This will be my first baby and it’s been a bit of a rough ride getting here – I had a missed miscarriage last June and a miscarriage at 5 weeks in October, before getting pregnant with (hopefully) lucky number 3 straight after that. Anyway, I’m feeling a bit more positive now the end of first trimester worry/nausea is in sight…
Had my 12 week scan today (at 12+1). Baby was very bouncy but it was pretty hard to make out anything – in fact, the photos were so rubbish, we weren’t charged for them! Anyway, due to uncooperative baby, the sonographer wasn’t able to get the nuchal measurement for the combined test. If we want to screen for Downs, our options now seem to be either pay for a private scan to try and get a reading, or wait till the quad test at 16 weeks. Which seems like a long way away. I doubt I’ll be able to wait that long before telling everyone I’m pregnant. My family and close friends already know (having been through two miscarriages, I’ve realised it’s way better to have that support in place from the start) but I don’t think I can keep it from work for too much longer as I’m really starting to show – thought this may well be due to eating every carb in sight for the past 8 weeks…
Anyway, sorry to waffle on, but I just wanted to check if anyone else had had a failed nuchal test and if so, what you did about it. Many thanks!

Scase1firsttimemum · 14/01/2016 18:38

Welcome whizz! I almost had failed measurements as my baby was very active the day of my scan! They turned me upside down, made me die for a wee and then told me to let a little bit out (do they know how hard that is when youre on the verge of weeing yourself anyway!!) and I had to lay on my stomach to get this baby to turn round! Finally they did get the measurement, 16 weeks isnt too long to wait time has flown by for me 26th January. If you can wait it out so you dont spend your money when you dont want too

MrsRolly · 14/01/2016 18:45

Hey Whizz, welcome we had exactly the same today and this was our second try at getting Nuchal as baby was too small the first time! Was being stubborn, we tried 3 times with various seeing, jumping and bouncing none of which worked...
Calling the midwife tomorrow to book in for the bloods but I'm now 13+2 so have to wait a week. We have told people and I have told work as realistically it will be what will be now I think! We didn't have any tests with DD1 as we found out much later on so hoping all will be well!

MrsRolly · 14/01/2016 18:46

Just read your message again, I was advised quad test could be done from 14+2 so maybe check with your midwife :)

Scase1firsttimemum · 14/01/2016 18:53

I am so upset about Alan RickmanSad such an amazing actor, I know this has nothing to do with babies but genuinely so upset

whizzbang03 · 14/01/2016 19:10

Hi Scase and Mrs Rolly! Thanks both for the wise words. Yeah, I think we'll wait for the 16 week opportunity, and probably end up telling people in the meantime. I'm not entirely sure what we'd do with a high risk result anyway... Hubby is now saying maybe we shouldn't find out at all and just let what will be be, "like in the olden days". So much uncertainty in pregnancy! Le sigh.
