Pour how awful for you, take care of yourself.

Pretty I think there is no way we can afford not to cloth nappy, so any help and advice will be great. Which ones did you end up using, and did you use any of the disposable liners and boosters? It all looks so much more confusing to me.

bearhuggy · 14/01/2016 11:50

Pour so sorry to hear your news, look after yourself.

Pretty so pleased to hear all well with your scan and thanks for the cloth nappy tips! I am definitely going to give them a go, do you have any brands you recommend? Have found a London group so going to pop along to that a little later along as apparently you can get trial nappies and vouchers.

Here's the link for anyone interested - www.realnappiesforlondon.org.uk/

Sickness has finally gone !! 11 + 6 today

Jw35 · 14/01/2016 11:53

Pretty how did you only save £180? Cloth nappies are cheap these days?
I spend about £20+ a month on disposables thats over £240 a year!

prettyflowers111 · 14/01/2016 12:28

Depending on the brand if nappy you buy you're looking at between £5-20 per nappy, the cheapest being ebay cheapies which I personally found useless, and you will probably need 20 or more. Add to that the cost of powder and running you're washing machine (I worked mine out to cost £1.27 per 60C degree wash) and any liners and additional boosters/insersts/night nappies you buy. Plus a nappy bucket, wet bag and cloth wipes. My calculations included everything I bought not just the nappies. As I said we could have easily saved another £200+ had we still been in nappies age 3.... but the fact that she was dry before age 2 really hindered that. A saving is a saving... and better for the environment.

I started off using just prefolds/flat nappies with wraps but soon moved onto different types and styles. We bought a loads of pocket nappies for nursery as they are easier for the staff, and ended up spending what seemed like a small fortune on different night options before finding what worked. My advice would be to never use a day nappy as a night nappy.... It tends not to work! And cloth bums are just sooo cute!

I found the disposable liners rubbish myself and ended up cutting up an old fleece blanket, fleece acts as a stay dry layer letting the water pass through but is also easy to kinda flop the poo off down the toilet.... oh the glamorous life I've lived!

Jw35 · 14/01/2016 12:30

Wow Pretty! Think I'll stick with disposables (runs away and hides)

SharyBobbins · 14/01/2016 12:44

So sorry Pour Flowers

lilygirl81 · 14/01/2016 13:59

pretty do you have a tumble dryer? That's my biggest worry, we live in a tiny 1 bed flat, and no chance to move until next year depending on promotion at work etc. We have no tumble dryer but do have a heater clothes airer which is quite cheap to run. It does all sound a bit of a minefield, I've said to DH that we will use disposables for the first couple of weeks then try and transition over, just get those first sludge nappies dealt with as easily as possible!

Is anyone else freaking out a bit? Ever since I saw our little one waving and bouncing about, it's all become more real and I'm a bit freaked out about how we will cope. Especially about money, with my earnings and my disability benefit, I bring in 90% of our income and although I know I've done the sums, it still doesn't seem like we can afford it. My work only offer the bare minimum for maternity which is rubbish.

Somnambulator · 14/01/2016 14:27

Wow a lot has happened in a short space of time on this thread.

My heart goes out to pour and missclarke. I hope you have lots of support around you and wish you both the best for the future.

lily I'm glad you are starting to feel a bit better and are recovering!

glen nice to see your regular posts! I hope things are a bit more plain sailing for you at the moment.

Also all this talk of cloth nappies is making me fret about how clueless I am as a first time mummy to be. Im definitely going to need to draw on all you veteran mums and your tips and tricks. I have realised I don't even know what to buy?!

Today I went for my combined scan. Decided after a lot of internal debate to go for the harmony test plus a Nuchal scan. it was so exciting to see the baby, although they have skipped me forward a week, now 12weeks +4 meaning a due date of 23rd of July! I don't want to leave you lovely ladies though.

That's a great pic som really clear! 3 weeks wait for me before my scan... Have planted the seed with dh re a private scan except my car died yesterday, and is still in the garage so it's likely the money will be spent on that instead. Sad

Flybynight1 · 14/01/2016 15:20

So sorry pour. Be kind to yourself x

lily yes I am mega worried about money... I am also the main breadwinner but am at real risk of redundancy at any minute being in the oil industry. I don't know how much lower it can go... I'm not telling work now until I really have to-I don't want to give them even a slight reason to make me or my role redundant. It's just hit me this week where we are looking at $30 oil. DH has a stable job but it's poorly paid civil service and not enough to live off in Aberdeen!! If I lose my job it is really going to suck...

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 14/01/2016 17:23

pour I'm so sorry to hear that. Look after yourself.

I'm still pottering along, my scan is a week tomorrow. Can't wait to see my little bean again, it's so hard when you can feel anything. I hope it's all ok in there!

fly and lily I hear you on the Aberdeen expenses front. We will be ok for me to take probably a full year off but I will have to go back full to afford childcare which makes me a little bit sad!

LeoLemur · 14/01/2016 17:47

Thinking of you pour and missClarke and I'm glad you did decide to share your news with us so we can support you in our thoughts and send you good wishes. Flowers

Great pic som that's so exciting! Like Mrssanta I also have three weeks' patient waiting to do first before finding out if it's all real!

Somnambulator · 14/01/2016 18:12

mrssanta and leo the time will fly by don't worry!

WaitingforaRainbow07 · 14/01/2016 19:28

Hi ladies!
So sorry to the ladies who have received bad news, I will probably be joining you tomorrow :-(
Have my rescan at 9:45, so nervous! With my history and spotting for the last 4 weeks I am sure it's going to be bad news. This week I have been hit with horrendous nausea though, can barely eat or drink and feel so so unwell.

Somnambulator · 14/01/2016 20:09

Good luck tomorrow rainbow. Try and stay positive.

Pipo1704 · 14/01/2016 20:37

Pour im so so sorry. Please take care of yourself xxx

Sadly not good here. I had my follow up scan today. The baby has gone from measuring 6 weeks to 6.3. No heartbeat. I've been told more or less it's a loss. There's a large area that looks like a hemmoraghe / signs of internal bleeding.

I'm at the hospital in the morning for yet another scan, who by all accounts won't take what the private scans have said as hemmoraghes etc can happen with successful pregnancies! So their protocol is for me to then wait another two weeks!

I just can't believe it. A whole month of this.

Jw35 · 14/01/2016 20:43

Pippo what a headache! You've been through so much Thanks I'm keeping everything crossed for you.
Rainbow good luck!

I've caught a stinking cold. Even less energy than usual. Feeling crap. I hate the first Trimester! Scan a week on Monday

Showgirl109 · 14/01/2016 21:10

Hello everyone,
I hope you don't mind if I join... I didn't know about these clubs as I'm new to MN. Im so sorry for all you ladies who have had bad news, sending so much love. I'm due on the 4th August so 11+1 with my first baby. Xxx

PickleBot · 14/01/2016 21:43

Evening everyone, just popped in to let you know that Dorothy Perkins have 20% off all their new range maternity stuff today! I found theirs wore well last time round so I got some leggings and a half price dress on order. I do love a bargain! Not sure how long it's on for but it started today.

I've got my scan tomorrow so fingers crossed for me please :)

I will catch up later x

LeoLemur · 14/01/2016 23:52

That is a nothing short of a nightmare pipo, I'm sorry. Will be thinking of you tomorrow along with rainbow and pickle.

Hi showgirl 🤗

Eminado · 15/01/2016 04:37

I am so sorry to your Pour. And to Pipo for the uncertainty.

Best of luck rainbow.

Just wanted to share i finally had my reassurance scan and all was well. I was too scared to look at the screen. Somgrapher was very, very kind to me/us.
Cried my eyes out when I opened my eyes.

OwlinaTree · 15/01/2016 08:26

Hi all, sorry for the bad news pour, thinking of you.

I'm really ill, awful sore throat. Slept most of yesterday and really struggling to eat much. Worried it will effect the baby if I'm ill and not eating. Went to the doctors yesterday but he said to come back if it's still bad next week!

Basketofwool · 15/01/2016 09:29

Morning everyone.
For those who have done this before or have already had their scans, how long does the 12 week scan take? I'm sure it depends on whether there are any problems or not, but I assumed a normal scan would just be a quick 5 minutes 'yep there's the baby, there's the heartbeat' and check the nuchal fold. However I read somewhere (might have been here or another thread) that it takes about half an hour?
I don't mind how long it takes. Just curious. Would be nice if we got to see baby for a while!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 15/01/2016 09:30

Pipo what a nightmare, I'm so sorry it's dragging on for you. It's just not what you need is it!

Good luck today rainbow, will keep absolutely everything crossed that you get a miracle

So glad for the ladies who have had good scans - such a relief!
Som I think you're our first official 12 week scan! Amazing pictures, was that the NHS scan?? You got a 3D shot! Is "regular posts" code for "coco get off this thread and get a life" by any chance?! Wink Definitely don't go to July, hang around here with us and we can all be jealous when you hit D-day first!

Pickle hope all goes well today, so exciting!

Owl that sounds awful, you poor thing. Try and stick with things that are easy to eat, soups and the like. The baby will take what it needs from you - think of people who have hyperemesis whose babies are absolutely fine! Hope you feel better soon for your sake though!

All good here, 12 weeks today! So pleased. Still no word from hospital re scan date but notes will only have been sent over from midwife/GP on Wednesday probably so not really a surprise. Just want to get to that scan and make sure everything looks ok, but feeling good to have made it this far Smile sickness is definitely getting a bit better too which is great!
