Good luck pretty, fx for good news tomorrow.

I will be reading up on the slings discussion I also had a Babybjorn last time too, although I didn't use it that much, would love a proper sling, but it's a bit of a mind field with all the different types etc.. Good news about the discount code too squiggle!

We had a handed down wooden high hair for ds, but I don't think it would last for another child, although were quite a way off from needing to think about them yet anyway..

Got my scan letter through today, scan is 3 weeks today!! Soooo long to wait! Haven't had a private scan either so am desperate to see what's inside there!! Had a dream last night that I gave birth in a caravan and had a girl that we called Amelia Jane Confused

HazzaB89 · 13/01/2016 15:44

Hello all! 8 weeks today over here and had my 1st bout of MS this morning. It started at 7 weeks with DD so at least I got an extra week! Other than that I'm feeling good. Have my booking appointment next Tuesday and midwife is organising my 12 week scan.

We used reusable nappies up until around 10 months with DD and then we started getting leaks constantly no matter which brand we used so gone back to pampers. Some cheapo eBay ones were probably the best out of the lot though surprisingly.

Also agree that the ikea antilop highchair is the best there is. So simple and cheap!

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned reusable wipes yet but to me, they are brilliant! I use cheeky wipes and have a set in the nursery for bump changes and a set downstairs for after mealtimes. I must admit to using disposable when out and about though!

Jw35 · 13/01/2016 18:03

I tried a cloth nappy. I just bought one from eBay with a bamboo liner for my dd when she was around 6 months. I found the main problem was its hard to tell when it was wet and also after just one use I couldn't get the smell of wee out? I think I washed it 4 times! I prefer pampers baby dry (not the other types) best. Never had an issue with those.

My highchair for the one year old is a wooden one from eBay. It transforms into a little table and chair. I like the ikea ones too (do you mean the white plastic)?

Good luck tomorrow Pretty sorry you're having such a crap time Thanks

Biscuitswithtea · 13/01/2016 18:32

All this breast pad talk is reminding me of the horrors of thrush in the boobs. I used reusable until thrush struck. Then I was having to replace breast pads several times a day so went to the Lansinoh ones. I guess all that shows is that you don't know what works for you until to try it!

Ikea sell bulk packs of face cloths that worked a treat as an alternative to cheeky wipes. Just have a bowl of water handy and then the used wipes went in the nappy bucket, ready for the wash at the end of the day.

Our neighbouring council used to do a real nappy trial scheme. It let us try 4-5 different brands for a couple of weeks. Cost c15 quid. Might be worth looking around, those who are interested but cautious about real nappies. We used them (at home & by day only) from c2-13 months.

OwlinaTree · 13/01/2016 20:02

I do cloth nappies, I use tots bots. Never really had a problem with leaks if they are changed regularly. My son's nursery agreed to do them too, so really lucky there. I've got some closer reusables too, which work fine but are a bit more bulky.

I wash them with non bio, and a little bit of nappisan, seems to keep the smells down.

Overnight he usually wears a disposable as sometimes he was getting nappy rash and the overnight disposable seems to keep that under control.

Jw35 · 13/01/2016 20:13

Nappy rash was another thing that concerned me owl.

OwlinaTree · 13/01/2016 20:27

The overnight disposable seems to stop it flaring up, but I think he's a lucky baby in that he's never been that bad really, when it does flare up, a day or so of cream and its gone.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 13/01/2016 20:27

I cloth bummed on and off from about months 3 - 10. It was ok - I found wees leaked more often but poos were much better contained. DD never had nappy rash or anything. But it was a bit of a nightmare doing all the poo scraping/rinsing, washing, drying etc etc, especially in winter when I couldn't use the washing line. And it was a total hassle out and about, took up a LOT of space in the change bag, which as I didn't have a car at the time and walked everywhere wasn't great. Our adventures in cloth eventually petered out when DD was 9 months, I went back to work and she went to a childminder who wasn't keen on cloth. Don't regret trying it, but was never a proper convert and will stick to disposables this time round I think. I totally take my hat off to anyone that uses cloth though! Last time I offset the environmental guilt with the fact that I didn't have a car but this time I've got nothing! Am a horrible, landfill-filling, polluting drain on the planet Shock

Flybynight1 · 13/01/2016 20:58

My fetal Doppler arrived today and after 3 attempts and numerous YouTube videos and google searches and about a pint of water... I found the heartbeat!!! It's so crazy!! I'm 10w2 Smile I just bought the £20 angelsounds one from ebay but it seems to have done the trick!

But it's going to make the 3+ weeks til my scan so much harder!!!

OP posts:
OwlinaTree · 13/01/2016 21:02

glenco the nappy drying is challenging, I hope my son is potty trained by the time this baby is born, don't fancy dealing with two lots!!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 13/01/2016 21:36

Woohoo Fly!! Amazing news Grin well done you! The first time finding is the hardest, although at this point baby will be wiggly enough to be able to dodge away if they're not impressed - I found it for about 10 seconds today and then that was my lot! Did your OH hear it too?? Such a brilliant sound

Colabottle10 · 13/01/2016 21:54

I left a message with the community midwives at 11am this morning and nobody has called back :(

Flybynight1 · 13/01/2016 21:58

Glencoco it's the weirdest thing!! So awesome yet so freaky Smile all I was getting was my heartbeat to begin with-started too high up, then found my artery running past the left side (obviously thought it was fetal and freaked out it was so slow) but then YouTube put me right, found the placenta area (or so called) lots of whooshing and my heartbeat again and then, bamn! Right in the middle just at my bikini line, this little chugchugchug!! I was shaking at that point-ran down to DH (watching the snooker) and of course couldn't find it initially but then found it and he got to hear! He was just kind of quiet (I think a lot to take in!) but smiling a lot. I checked on it again just before I had a shower (spent a good few minutes just sitting listening) and then went to find it just before I go to bed (after a wee) but it's done a runner Grin oh well! I got a pretty good listen though Grin Grin I was quite surprised being it's a cheapish doppler, it was a bit of a punt, but it's worked out! It's going to be my new obsession

PickleBot · 13/01/2016 23:32

I brought one last time round too, but because my placenta was on the outer wall of the bump I never got it to work.

JW the wee smell could have been fabric softener, it locks the smell in and kills the absorbency. You also have to wash them 3 or 4 times before they are in full working order. I was a convert last time (unless we were on holiday or something), I'm looking forward to the £0 I'll pay for nappies most weeks! And the drying isn't so bad if you have a tumble drier, then you only have the shells on the drying rack and they will dry over night.

Jw35 · 13/01/2016 23:46

Fly I need to watch those YouTube videos! I can't find anything Sad
Pickle that's probably it and I was a bit impatient with them. I think I prefer the easy option! They do look cute though..you can get some lovely ones. Midwife tomorrow finally! Hoping she will look for a heartbeat but it's not the same midwife I had before so won't hold my breath!

Christinedonna · 14/01/2016 01:38

Was just discussing the heart beat detector things with OH and he said as the heartbeat can be difficult to find he thinks it would just worry me too much and we're best off not getting it. Is it that difficult? I don't want to miss out on being able to hear it. He said we'll probably hear it at midwife appointments anyway. Is that the case with my booking appointment?

SharyBobbins · 14/01/2016 07:21

Christine my booking appointment is on Friday and I was told listening for a heartbeat is not part of it at this early stage. It was said in response to me asking if OH needs to be there (her response was along the lines of "he's more than welcome but he will be bored- most men prefer to come to the later appointments when we listen to the heartbeat"!). I'm going to leave him in work!

Flybynight1 · 14/01/2016 07:27

Christine my booking appointment was just form filling. I have the mw again and I believe that's just bloods. I understood the HB was much later-even later than the 12 week dating scan. It's completely your choice-seems some people find it easier than others-even if you don't hear the baby HB I figure that hearing the placenta is the next best thing!! It developing to support something right?!

jw yes there was one YouTube video I found really useful (the girl shows you the other things you can hear and how to find the placenta then baby)- it was waaaay lower than I expected. A full bladder and a bit of patience did the trick!

Flybynight1 · 14/01/2016 07:39

Just found it again-lying on my back in bed before I get up and go to the loo-found it straight away this time in the exact spot I heard it yesterday Smile DH says it sounds like a spaceship, I think it sounds like a helicopter starting up, the swoosh of the blades!

I have been gone from this thread for a while and debated whether I should come back at all as there has been a lot of disappointment and heartbreak on here already. But I thought I should just say that I am bowing out now ladies after a fairly devastating miscarriage at the weekend. I wish you all such good luck and joy for the remainder of your pregnancies and for your newborn squishes. And this weekend I'm looking forward to reinstating cocktail Friday. No more Shirley Temples for me for a while. Xxx

FourForYouGlenCoco · 14/01/2016 09:44

Oh no Pour I'm so so sorry to hear that. Be kind to yourself. I hope cocktail Friday is short-lived and your next pregnancy is straightforward (if that's what you want of course). Hope you're being looked after Flowers

MrsSantaClause · 14/01/2016 10:07

So sorry pour try to enjoy the cocktails Thanks

Suziesome1 · 14/01/2016 10:58

Flowers pour, thinking of you

Jw35 · 14/01/2016 11:20

Thanks I'm so sorry pour

Had my booking appointment. They wouldn't listen to the heartbeat boo! They did last time, maybe I was just lucky!

prettyflowers111 · 14/01/2016 11:30

pour thinking of you, how dreadful. Take time to heal and look after yourself Flowers

Just back for epu. Internal scans aren't very pleasant are they. But all looks good. I couldn't believe it in my mind it was all over. Dated a day ahead so 8 weeks tomorrow. Still uneasy about the sporting and cramping but it has put my mind at ease a bit seeing the heart beat. Really clear scan could even see the little arm and leg buds forming.

On the topic of cloth nappies... my dd was cloth bummed from birth until we potty trained. We messed about quite a bit before we found what worked for us, Especially for night time. I'm glad I did cloth nappy her though and once you get in the habit of washing you get into a routine. Lots of people make the mistake of using too much washing powder which clogs up the fibres and hinders absorbancy. Same with fabric softer it coats the fabric and actually repels liquids rather than absorbing. I worked out a direct cost comparison and even including washing powder and electricity we still saved around £180... It would have been more but she potty trained at 22 months. We did have a nasty thrush nappy rash that lasted weeks and weeks no matter what we did.... It was only when I was stood in the garden one day that I noticed the water coming out of the waste pipe wasn't steaming. A lot of messing with my machine and stopping it mid cycle to empty revealed the water heater was broken and so the nappies were just being washed in cold water so not killing off the thrush. Anyway... I'm a huge cloth nappy fan and will try to convert anyone I talk to, will try and keep a lid on that! Nobodies way is right or wrong, we're all in this together no matter what our choices as parents Grin
