So sorry to hear that MissC. Hopefully once the d&c is over you can begin to heal. I'm sure the last few weeks have been extremely difficult.

Still spotting here too pretty. Keep thinking its settled and then it happens again. Its all been light and dark but just wish it would stop. Haven't been out of the house since Friday morning except briefly for a scan on Sunday morning. Couch/bed rest. My back and shoulders are aching from all the sitting around. Would love a nice long walk. Very lucky with DH, he's doing everything and coming home at lunch to stop me going completely stir crazy.

Fouryou and Owlina can I ask you about slings? Love the idea of them but wondering about the safety of them. There seems to be regular enough news stories on the danger of them causing suffocation. Is this a risk and how do you make sure they're safe? Thanks

prettyflowers111 · 12/01/2016 20:32

Christine I'm only 7+3 today so a bit behind some of you guys! I'll let you know what gp says tomorrow, I have a feeling I'll be fobbed off with just a speach but fingers crossed.

rosie I'm just hoping to be scanned soon to put my mind at ease. you must be going crazy stuck not doing anything. Good old husband... that one's a keeper bless him!
I used a sling for my dd and it was a life saver at times, and so much better than the pram for walks etc. So long as you're wearing it correctly it's fine. A lot of people wear them incorrectly especially having baby too low, you should be able to easily kiss the top of their heads. Def worth doing your research and getting one that seats baby correctly though. I started out uneducated using a baby bjorn and it was awful for my back, once I did a bit of googling I found out there are better choices out there.

PickleBot · 12/01/2016 21:06

RoRosie there are some guidelines for safe use of slings, it's like anything else, do it properly and it's fine, don't follow the correct procedures and it's dangerous.

I haven't heard anything from the mw so I'm assuming my tests were fine and I can carry on eating fruit. I've been getting stabbing pains in my right ovary (probably). It's bloody painful! I've got my scan on Friday so I might just mention it. I'm excited, but also terrified there's nothing there. Although I also think I'm going mad because I'm pretty sure I felt some movement a couple of nights ago...probably just ibs symptoms though 10+2 (ish) is far to early for that right? Confused

RoRosie · 12/01/2016 21:25

Thanks pretty and pickle. Theres a baby wearing society that meet once a month close to me so I'll go to that closer to the time.

Good luck with getting scan pretty. Its very reassuring.

I would mention it pickle so they can have a good look at the right side to check for cysts etc.

lilygirl81 · 12/01/2016 21:54

We had a fantastic scan this afternoon, heard the heartbeat, measuring exactly right and saw the wee thing waving and jumping about, it was incredible.

Then came home, started feeling ill and was violently sick, only just made it to the loo, and have had agonising pains in my stomach and up into my chest cavity. I'm sure it's trapped wind but so painful I can hardly move and have a hot water bottle stuck to me for relief. Wish I'd got a bit longer to enjoy the scan result.

Sorry to those spotting, I hope it clears for you soon, so worrying for you xx

OwlinaTree · 12/01/2016 22:33

Have a look at this for sling safety. I found mine very useful for when he just wouldn't be put down, and I think with an active 2yo this time round it will be even more useful!

OwlinaTree · 12/01/2016 22:34

Had my first midwife appointment today, notes etc had changed since last time, it's a massive book to carry round now!

squigglepants · 12/01/2016 22:35

Just to let you all know I am a sling consultant and have run a sling library for 6 years now. Happy to answer any questions about slinging the further on we go.
Also want to say I work for a company called BabyCalm but in here I will never have my work hat on so always unbiased. (Will get you all a discount code for our shop in a few months time though, got to be some perks Wink )

FourForYouGlenCoco · 12/01/2016 23:14

Ooh squiggle well jel. Is that your full time job? Bet it's amazing! And excellent news on the discount Grin
lily glad you had a good scan, it sounds fab! But sorry you're feeling so rough again. At least you can relax a bit knowing baby is happy and doing well. You're into the 'safe zone'!

prettyflowers111 · 13/01/2016 07:43

Oh wow squiggle that's awsome. I love a discount code! There's a new sling library in my area. Unfortunately when I had dd it wasn't there so I ended up with Google and 4 slings later until I found one that suited us both. When i think back to early on when i was using the baby bjorn I don't know what I was thinking! Im thinking of a tula or boba this time around... but want to get it right first time for a change. Will no doubt have loads of questions for you closer to the time Grin

Waiting for the gp line to open at 8.30. The epu is only open until 10.30 so hoping to be one of the first in line so that I can go down today. My epu operates on a gp or midwife referral only which sucks.

Jw35 · 13/01/2016 08:05

So sorry Miss Thanks
Bear I had a male midwife last pregnancy! He was great.
Lily happy 12 weeks! I'm 11 week today woo! Going fast actually! I've got my booking appointment on Thursday. Was meant to be a couple of weeks ago but receptionist messed it up lol. Scan on the 25th so not long now! I really want confirmation there's a baby in there! Almost took another pregnancy test yesterday GrinBlush didn't bother in the end, feel too sick to not be pregnant! Haha! I need to her a heartbeat or something, hopefully I will on Thursday Smile
For those spotting Pretty and Pippo I think it was? Hope everything's ok. Got everything crossed for you.

Jw35 · 13/01/2016 08:06

Oh and Sguiggle that's fab! What do you think of the connecta?

RoRosie · 13/01/2016 08:55

That's great Sguiggle. I'll be picking your brain. Another scan this morning-all good. 5th scan and I'm only 9+4. Off work for rest of week. If no more spotting can go back to work next week but no more overnights until out of 1st trimester.

prettyflowers111 · 13/01/2016 09:18

Just back from gp. Epu full today but have an appointment at 9.15 tomorrow morning. Very worried. The doctor was LOVELY, however didn't put my mind at rest when she told me about her miscarriages and loosing twins at 22 weeks Confused now I'm even more worried. Oh well in 24 hours we'll know what's happening I suppose.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 13/01/2016 10:11

Will keep everything crossed for you pretty. Slightly unusual of your doc to tell you all that! Bless her though, she's obviously been through a lot. Even if she shouldn't have told you about it! I think it's really hard to balance being realistic about the fact that MC is incredibly common, while also remembering that the vast majority of people are absolutely fine and the odds are good that all is well. You've just got to hold on til tomorrow! Spotting is really common and usually fine, I had it with DD and have had loads this time round too.

prettyflowers111 · 13/01/2016 10:30

fourforyou I do hope the odds are in my favour... I'm so worried about tomorrow but oh doesn't seem to get it.... He thinks it's just a nice early scan and that we might as well cancel the privet one I've booked for Monday since I'll be having one tomorrow. I don't think he realised that this may be the end of the pregnancy. I'm just going to have a moppey day today and sit around doing a lot of F all.... I deserve it. Will let you know the outcome of scan tomorrow, fingers and toes crossed please ladies

bearhuggy · 13/01/2016 10:54

pretty Guys just don't get it full stop, they don't understand how much of a worrying time it is for us ladies as they are not the ones actually carrying and growing the little life! I sat my husband down and talked through all my concerns so he was really clear and realised that I needed more emotional support and that there could be ups and downs. Fingers and toes crossed for you, I am sure all will be perfectly fine tomorrow, relax today and have some Brew and Cake !

ToElleWithIt · 13/01/2016 11:09

Good luck prettyflowers

I'm really sorry to hear that MissC

Another one here who loved slings - I still use them with my DS. A sling meet or consultation is a great way to start.

From that list I'd caution around the Tripp Trapp. It's expensive, and while lovely, it's in no way an "essential". Ikea's antilop is an excellent high chair and a fraction of the price. Either way make sure you think about how easy the highchair will be to clean. Those plastic cushioned ones look comfy, but get manky when food gathers in the folds.
If you think you may want to express I'd buy an electric pump over a manual for sure. Medela and Calypso are two good brands. In terms of breast pads I'd avoid Lansinoh which are disposable. Disposable ones are weird and plasticy and bunch giving a strange outline IMO. The reusable ones are way better - soft, moulded shape and go in the wash.
Mobile and play mat are both lovely, but not necessary immediately - good to suggest to friends / relatives if they're looking for gifts. Same for jumparoo.

Still feeling a bit dodgy here. Appointment a week tomorrow. Really can't wait. My other SIL announced she's pregnant, that means 3 children for the 3 sons in my husband's family within 6 weeks.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 13/01/2016 11:28

Elle we had the antilop! £16 if I remember rightly and did a brilliant job, and so easy to clean that we used it for messy play, painting, all sorts as well as just eating. I'd forgotten about the cushioned high chair thing, so true! Some of them are so vile, especially in restaurants and stuff, absolutely caked in gunk

I need to retry reusable breast pads, I got some from mothercare last time and leaked straight through them within about 10 mins! Cue 2 big wet circles on my boobs Blush clearly didn't get it quite right!
pretty a mopey day is definitely well deserved. Lots of Jeremy Kyle reruns and a good wallow Flowers

bearhuggy · 13/01/2016 12:10

Thanks Elle for all your tips!

Def will look for reusable pads, reduce waste where possible! Anyone ever used reusable nappies??

PickleBot · 13/01/2016 12:27

Fourfor you can get reusable ones with a waterproof backing bit I think. I'm sure my friend had some.

Bad news on the highchair front, idea discontinued the antilop last year! I have no idea what I'll do as I sold our trip trap knock off because I kept stubbing my toes on it!

Is anyone else a cloth bum lover? I loved my cloth nappies last time. This time I have a bi-weekly bin collection and a wheely bin sat on a very hot south facing driveway outside my front door. It's a struggle to keep the fly population under control as it is without adding a bin full of dirty nappies! Envy

PickleBot · 13/01/2016 12:30

bear I am, I have bum genius pocket nappies. They are really good. The only problems I had last time that I didn't solve were leaking when using a sling - any advice on that squiggle? And occasionally I would get a week when every wet nappy would leak because DS always grew up before growing out.

MrsZumbaDancer · 13/01/2016 13:00

Hugs missc

Agree with IKEA anitlop as the highchair of choice! So easy to clean, cheap enough that we also have one at my parents. I chuck it in the bath every now and then too to clean the straps Smile

bearhuggy · 13/01/2016 13:19

Pickle think they have brought it back! Is this the one??

MrsZumbaDancer · 13/01/2016 13:31

You can get a padded insert for it too if you think you lo is a bit lost in at at first Smile
