That's good to know biking do you have the peach I think that's the one I preferred, the seat on the Apple to pear looked smaller. It's been 8 years since I bought anything like this and I felt a but lost, I think I stopped taking it all in when the sales girl started on the range of car seats Confused

nehagarg · 12/01/2016 10:46

oooh prams! Would love some opinions. I get a headache every time I look at prams and strollers now. There are SO MANY to choose from! Confused

PrincessPunzie · 12/01/2016 11:03

I've started to look at prams - I really like the Silver Cross Pioneer, and Mothercare have a good deal on it at the moment, but husband thinks it's too expensive and I haven't actually seen one in real life yet.

I've just been sick! First time all pregnancy, and I'm 19+2, so I'm a bit unnerved. Just suddenly felt all nauseous. I ate a bag of baked beetroot slices about 10 minutes before - I didn't much enjoy them and I'm wondering if the only other ingredient in them (lemon juice) was just a bit acidic for my pregnant stomach. Still, glad of the scan tomorrow as anything out of the blue like that freaks me out!

laughingGnomette · 12/01/2016 11:16

nehagarg - I think a good place to start is to decide what's most important to you and then you can rule various models out and when you've come up with a short list, go an try some out. Some things to consider are:

  • Do you need it to fold up small?
  • Should it have a parent facing option?
  • Budget?
  • Do you want the option to add another chair for future siblings?
  • Does it need to be lightweight (e.g will you need to carry it up to a second floor flat every day?)
  • I found width an important consideration in London as it can make getting busses a complete nightmare if your buggy doesn't fit down the isle

The pushchairs section in MN talk has some very knowledgeable people which I found helpful last time.

Belleboo23 · 12/01/2016 11:18

Princess hope you feel better your right could be the lemon. I'd definitely look at them in a shop I'm not sure which models they were but I saw a couple of silver cross prams and the carry cot part looked very narrow this was the same with a few others we looked at aswell, it's definitely worth comparing a few.

PrincessPunzie · 12/01/2016 11:26

Thanks Belleboo - I've not been well for a few days but it's only a cold so I was a bit surprised to find myself suddenly throwing up! Fingers crossed it was a one-off.

I'll bear that in mind about the narrow cot. Have been perusing the Which reviews but all of the top prams have at least a couple of drawbacks so it's good to get a human perspective! I didn't know MN had a pushchair section Gnomette - will check it out!

bikingintherain · 12/01/2016 11:32

belle I had the icandy peach, but an older model. A friend of mine got the strawberry having seen mine for her second, but got frustrated with the basket as it wasn't great.

I'm a city dweller and use it all the time. For me it has to be light, push able with one hand and easy to maneuver. My DS is 3 and still uses it. (I might get a buggy board for him when he gets kicked out for the baby!)

Got the first 4 months or so you do need to have the pram bit to go with it which is an added extra cost wise. You can get adapters for a maxi cosi car seat, so you could use this instead. Although I didn't as it is recommended that babies spend too long in car seats. But I know people who did and found it invaluable.

It's not crazy big packed down, and had been no problems in our car boots. But it isn't easy (none of the bigger ones are) for regular public transport use. It's easy to get on and off but not if it needs to be folded.

Belvedere · 12/01/2016 11:34

Re. Pushchairs. We have a baby jogger city gt and it's been amazing. Really easy to fold (you can do it with one hand) and easy to push around. The carrycot bit is a bit narrow but they aren't in it for long so it doesn't bother me. In fact it lies so flat, this time I might not bother with the carry cot and just strap a cocoon in. The pushchair bit is big and comfy and we've never needed to buy a smaller umbrella buggy and have taken it on planes a number of times.
That's my review for you!

bikingintherain · 12/01/2016 11:36

My biggest recommendation is to try them out.

A friend of mine got a great deal on hers and she did like it, but always complained that it was far too heavy. She bought it online and never tested it out.

MadrigalElectromotive · 12/01/2016 12:53

All went well at my scan so I'm very relieved. They confirmed that I'm team pink so it'll be a big shock if they're wrong.

Going to hit the shops and buy a couple of little outfits to celebrate!

Hope yours goes ok Mollie.

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/01/2016 12:57

I've been looking at the silvercross pioneer too though we're changing car so not making any solid decisions until we know about boot space. I've heard the wayfayer and. Pioneer are quite bulky Folded down but want something for countryside walks. 19+2 today and still always feeling sick and actually sick every other day (twice yesterday). Weighed myself this morning and am half a stone lighter than pre-pregnancy and haven't gained any weight since booking appointment. Should I be worried?

redtammy · 12/01/2016 13:00

Ha good to know it's not just us feeling a bit "pram shocked"! We went to a local discount warehouse type place, walked around for about 15 minutes feeling completely overwhelmed, then left having bought a giant pillow!

We have been offered some stuff too so think we will see what we get given and then reattack with MiL in tow!

MiraclesDoHappen82 · 12/01/2016 13:12

Congratulations madrigal. Lovely news.

nehagarg · 12/01/2016 13:20

Woohoo!! Congrats Madrigal .. Glad all is well Smile

Thanks laughing .. I am going to make a list. Narrow, easily foldable and compact folded are top priorities for a London flat dweller Grin

PrincessPunzie · 12/01/2016 13:20

caterpillers I was talking to my SIL last night about my not looking pregnant (I won't weigh myself mind, so harder for me to gauge in those terms) and she seemed to think that as babies are so hardy and so desperate to be born, if you aren't gaining weight they will pretty much steal the calcium off your bones to stay strong! As long as you're staying healthy and able to keep the odd thing down that should count for something, but you could always ask your midwife if you're concerned. Read some of the threads on bump size over on Pregnancy - women who have shown super-late seem to love going on there and telling everyone about it, so it's obviously far from isolated. I must admit though, I'll feel much better once my (apparently Gameboy-sized) baby has shown up on a scan!

PrincessPunzie · 12/01/2016 13:21

Oh and congrats Madrigal that's great!

jbiscuits · 12/01/2016 13:33

Ooh I can give insight into the pioneer. We have one for DS and I still love it 18 months on with almost daily use.

It is a great all-rounder, and I would definitely recommend if you walk a lot. It is quite bulky when folded down, so I wouldn't get it if you'll be getting it in and out the car a lot. It manages fine on easy countryside walks (lanes, tracks, canal paths etc), but isn't designed as an off-roader so doesn't do as well with long grass and muddy fields.

The basket is huge, but not as easily accessible with the carrycot on.

The carrycot is a bit narrow. DS grew out of it at about 4 months, but was fine in the seat fully reclined.

It is fairly expensive, but not as bad as the Icandy, and if you use it a lot I think it's worth it.

Any other questions just ask Smile

Starface · 12/01/2016 13:35

Hello ladies, can I join. I'm due 14th June. I've a DD age 2.7 already. The due date is the same as last time! Everything going well so far, though I feel more neglectful this time round. Its definitely not the centre of my focus as it was before. One of my colleagues says I keep forgetting I'm pregnant, which has some truth in it. Maybe being on this thread will keep it in my mind a bit more!

MollieRos · 12/01/2016 14:19

Lovely news Madrigal!

We've found out we're expecting a boy Smile very strange to be able to refer to the baby as "he"! The sonographer was lovely and talked us through everything she was doing. She didn't find any problems which was a big relief.

nehagarg · 12/01/2016 14:39

Woohoo!! Congrats Mollie

Betty79 · 12/01/2016 15:04

Congrats Mollie and madrigal Smile**

Im off work sick today, still feeling rubbish. On the plus side I have started to feel the baby move loads all of a sudden in the last few days Smile I had forgotten what a lovely feeling it is!

amysmummy12345 · 12/01/2016 15:11

Congrats madrigal and Mollie!! Xx

jbiscuits · 12/01/2016 15:17

Lovely to hear madrigal and mollie.

And welcome starface Smile

JellyBaby26 · 12/01/2016 15:27

Fallen off thread so place marking again.

Going to make serious effort to keep up now...it's not like I have anything else to do. Dh has tasked me with cleaning the dishwasher but I think reading 800 odd posts is far more important!!

Congratulations to everyone who has had their scans - are people updating the spreadsheet? Will be great to see how many on each team.

Our scan is Friday. So excited despite not feeling at all preggo and still no movement Confused
Anyone else not felt anything yet? I'm 18+5 today. Pretty sure I felt flutters and bubbles from about 14 weeks with DD.

mrsmugoo · 12/01/2016 15:34

I'm 19 weeks today jelly and hardly any movement - I'll go days then a tiny little flutter or poke then nothing - but I've had anterior placenta confirmed so I'm not stressing about it.

Wading in on prams - I've got an uppababy cruz and I love it. Very light, easy to fold and massive shopping basket underneath. I'm just worrying my DS will struggle with just a buggyboard in only 5 months time so hoping I can keep it and not have to sell it and buy a Phil & Teds.
