Happy New Thread (fingers buffering crossed this works AND I can manage to post the link Confused )

princess that sounds horrible!

tatted the test you mention is like an ordinary ultrasound, but they focus on the blood vessels which connect you to the placenta. High blood pressure can mean that they are quite tight (so your heart has to push hard to get the blood through, raising your blood pressure). The Doppler tells them how the blood is flowing. It can help tell whether you are in the process of developing pre-eclampsia. (I had it at the end of my last pregnancy, but my hospital checks the blood vessels automatically anyway, and now do a blood test which you might have too?). They will be making sure that the placenta is getting enough blood for the baby to grow well. It's an early indicator, so if it looks dodgy it may well still be all ok, just need keeping an eye on more closely.

TattedPixie · 10/01/2016 20:06

Thanks Grubby, that has helped me calm my nerves a bit

MagicDucky · 10/01/2016 20:09

Hi ladies! Haven't been on in a while! Sorry! Really need some advice!

I've just fallen down the stairs! That makes it sound a lot more dramatic than it was, it was only a couple of steps and I landed on my bum. No aches or pain out of the ordinary (except my bum!!) do you think u should go see a doctor about it? OH says no, but I'm still worried!

cautiousoptimist1 · 10/01/2016 20:52

Magic I'm not sure, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Why not call 111 or your community midwife non emergency number if you have one? They may be able uk direct you better or put your mind at rest.

Spock27 · 10/01/2016 20:52

Oh dear ducky, hope you're OK. I would either ring or go to the EPU to make sure, a bump like that could cause a tear that you wouldn't necessarily experience external bleeding from. Better to get checked out and I'm sure the doctors would prefer you to come in than wait and see. I'm sure it'll all be fine but definitely worth a phone call at least I'd say!

cautiousoptimist1 · 10/01/2016 20:59

Princess that dream sounds awful. I'm having loads of weird dreams at the moment but most of them don't make much sense it are just funny - in the one I remember from last night, I gave birth to a daughter and told her what her name was when she replied and decided we should call her Esther!

I've had quite a good week, it was my birthday on Wednesday so went for a meal and I think I may have felt the first flutter on Thursday. I almost passed out at church today - I go on my own so no one knows I'm pregnant there yet - but chose to sit down when the words in my hymn book started moving! I sit with a lovely old lady who checked I was ok and ordered me to stay sitting down. I'm still not sure what brought it on.

Belleboo23 · 10/01/2016 21:20

I agree magic definitely ring for some advice.
Still don't think I've felt anything definite thought I would have by now being my 3rd! Had a listen with my doppler though which I hadn't done in a while, found the galloping straight away :)

MollieRos · 10/01/2016 21:43

Oh dear Magic hope your bum's not too bruised! I'd agree with the others- worth a ring to your midwife to see what they think. Though the baby's really cushioned and protected in there (your bum has taken all the impact! Smile) so I'm sure everything is fine. But worth a phone call just to be on the safe side.

nehagarg · 11/01/2016 08:35

Hope you are okay Magic. Sounds painful.

A belated happy birthday then Cautious. Smile Have you checked your BP? I have always been 100/68ish with no problems but with pregnancy added in, that BP now falls in the low category and I sometimes get very dizzy and faint. Lying on your left or sitting down until it passes should help. Spoke with midwife about it and she said that as long as it isnt a regular occurence, not to worry about it. Our BPs are lowest at mid pregnancy and if you are already a low one like me, this can sometimes happen. Nothing to worry about except making sure you dont fall over.

20 week scan day today and will find out sex too!!! Havent slept at all. I am such a puddle of nerves. Not sure how I am going to make it to 2:30.

emma85x · 11/01/2016 09:08

Good luck at your scan today nehagarg! Looking forward to hearing all about it later on! Good luck to anyone else who has a scan today also!?!

Is anyone else unbelievably tired? Really struggling with lethargy. Weight seems to have piled on over the past week or two also. Has anyone taken Florodix? I've heard it can really help with tiredness.

laughingGnomette · 11/01/2016 09:47

Magic - hope you're ok and no harm was done.

nehagarg - eeek!! Good luck for this afternoon!!

MagicDucky · 11/01/2016 10:01

Hi all! Called the hospital last night, they weren't worried as I never landed on my tummy and had no pain or bleeding. OH was all "I told you so!" But I think it's better to be safe than sorry!

Good luck to all those with scans!

Hope everyone is doing well!

GenevaJoey · 11/01/2016 10:27

Hello, I'm new to the forum, but hope you don't mind me joining in. I am 19 weeks pregnant today, due 6th June with my first, and think I've just started feeling baby moving this weekend. Or have I? Been feeling little jerks/prods all morning. Could be a muscle spasm. Looking forward to being sure, as it is only now I am starting to feel excited. I have BMI 34/35 so certainly don't look pregnant, and have felt so self-conscious at the scans, and the pictures have not been clear (I can't work out what anything is), so while all seems ok with baby, I have found them a bit of an ordeal.

Got my 20 week scan in a couple of weeks, which I think will be done by a specialist sonographer rather than my doctor, so hope it will be clearer. Pretty sure we're not going to find out sex though I reserve the right to change my mind!

Anyway, good morning to all. Hope you're all blooming! Grin

Eastend2015 · 11/01/2016 11:14

Magic glad to hear everything is ok. Nehagarg good luck! Joey welcome!

Feeling pretty rubbish today. Nausea is back with a vengeance, I think it's because I'm so washed out with my cold and baby still very quiet. I'm paranoid my bump is shrinking but equally I think I am holding a lot of anxiety in my stomach muscles and when I breathe normally everything relaxes more to a more "normal" size (and I feel less sick to boot). Back in work today and loads needs picking up so am just trying to sit and my computer breathing deeply and trying not to stress- lol!!

PrincessPunzie · 11/01/2016 12:18

I hope all goes well nehagarg

Suffering from my second cold this pregnancy - thank you, crappy reduced immune system! But I can sleep with this one, which I'm grateful for.

Am Googling David Bowie babygros. I can't believe the news Sad My baby is going to be a fan whether they like it or not!

nehagarg · 11/01/2016 16:39

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. All well except that the head is measuring a treny bit smaller than average but sonographer says that may be down to ethnicity too. She wasnt worried and has booked another growth scan in 4 weeks.

Other than that - Its a Boy!! Grin

mrsmugoo · 11/01/2016 16:53

Congrats on your boy nehagarg! It must be so worrying when they pull you up on something but remember that they are over cautious about everything and I'm sure your mind will be put at ease in 4 weeks.

MadrigalElectromotive · 11/01/2016 16:56

Congratulations nehagarg - did you have any feeling either way about what you were going to have? I'm sure they are just being extra cautious about the head size.

I'm pretty nervous - my 20w scan is tomorrow. Looking forward to it being over and done with.

Betty79 · 11/01/2016 16:56

Congrats nehagarg!

Not feeling too great here today, got a head cold and feeling a bit dizzy, came home from work early as just didn't feel right. Fingers crossed I've just overdone it this weekend, I did have a busy one yesterday.

nehagarg · 11/01/2016 16:57

Thanks mrsmugoo .. I looked it up and his head circumference is measuring at 19.57 weeks ... So 2-3 days behind, which really is nothing. That could very easily be down to her measurement. If it was weeks, I'd worry. Thank God for Google :D

nehagarg · 11/01/2016 16:59

Thanks Betty and Madrigal ...

Betty ... Hot teas with Ginger, lemon and honey should help. Hope you feel better. Its rotten to have a cold when pregnant. Took me 3 weeks to get over mine.

Madrigal .. Good luck. I am sure it will be fine. I was almost shitting myself this morning but the chances are so enormously in the baby's favour. Are you going to find out the sex of the baby?

bikingintherain · 11/01/2016 17:02

Congratulations nehagarg! Google can be such a great thing sometimes. It can also be the worst of things too and turn me into a shriveling mess over nothing! But I'm pleased it's reassured you!

PrincessPunzie · 11/01/2016 17:06

That's good nehagarg - and reassuring that they're not worried. Two sleeps til my scan and trying not to think about it!! Good luck Madrigal

Snowflake16 · 11/01/2016 17:08

Congratulations nehagarg on having a boy.

Emma I've been really exhausted for the past 2-3 weeks, I get up for work at 5am start at 6am and by 9am I want to fall down. I tried changing my hours and going to bed earlier and that didn't help. Over the past few days I've changed my diet, eating lots of protein and salad and have started to feel much better.

Hope everything goes well for everybody having scans this week. Flowers

emma85x · 11/01/2016 17:24

Thanks for text advice snowflake funny you should say that as I've gone back onto Slimming World today to ensure I'm getting everything I need to try and get more energy! I do also have an underactive thyroid which is totally pants. I literally look at cake and put on 3lbs!!!

Nehagarg Congratulations!!! Following on from my gender predictions (!) what were your symptoms?! Any old wives tales prove to be true?!!
