Well I can't believe I am doing this but I am petrified the old thread is about to get filled up and we are going to loose people. ...

Happy New Thread (fingers buffering crossed this works AND I can manage to post the link Confused )

I also find boys names tricky. There was only one name we agreed on last time. No idea what we'll do this time if its a boy. We'll be finding out (hopefully) a week on Sunday what we're having!

Lovely news mrsmugoo!

GrubbyWindows · 09/01/2016 19:51

Ha, we are dire at naming! DS was named at 5.5 weeks old (the deadline for registering a birth is 6 weeks) and we only finally settled on his middle name on the way to the registry office.

We both agreed it would have been so much easier to name a girl, but I think we'd have been just as bad.

We are going to find out (on the 25th!). I feel like it's a girl, so I'm probably in for a shock. And then we can start confusing ourselves with names again...

Spock27 · 09/01/2016 20:10

We've got a boy's name set, had it from before we were ttc. Girl's is harder though but we've got a couple of options. Is anyone telling family out friends their choices? We decided not to as didn't want them spoiled, however my mum then suggested our boy's name which was quite nice, it's not a name of any family member or friend so was surprised she thought of it!

HarleyQuinn90 · 09/01/2016 20:12

My full boys name is picked, have a few ideas for a girl, not really much point picking one though as I'm 90%?sure I'm having a boy. Has anyone been wrong when they've been convinced what sex their having?
I find out Tuesday booked a private scan can't wait till the 2nd Feb to find out and normally at my 20 week scan I get a snobby sonographer who doesn't even try to look.

Betty79 · 09/01/2016 21:33

We had a boys name picked really early, but luckily we chose a girls before finding out. Found it harder picking the girls name as I already have 2 dd's, but love the name we have picked now.

MollieRos · 09/01/2016 21:34

I have no idea how we're going to ever pick a name... a big advantage of finding out if it's a boy or a girl is that we then only have to choose either a boy's or girl's name, and therefore it'll cut our decision making by half!

bikingintherain · 10/01/2016 07:08

We won't be telling people our name options/ choices. Whilst your pregnant everybody feels they can comment on it, but once baby is there they don't comment.

We told parents and PIL names for DC1 and mine didn't like our boys name, PILs didn't like girls name. And the spent another few weeks suggesting lots of names. (We still went with what we'd chosen)

So DC2 we told no one name choices, and is was much easier! And once you've had the baby if people don't like it they don't say anything.

dollydaydream84 · 10/01/2016 07:48

Had my 16 weeks midwife appointment and she found the heartbeat immediately, a huge relief as I have basically been symptom free for about a week now (which I am pleased about but also was worrying me). My 20 week scan is actually at 21 weeks so I can see the consultant at the same time.

We didn't tell anyone our name last time and I am so glad we didn't. We still haven't told anyone what DD1 would have been if she was a boy as we might need to use that name this time though we may change as a reasonably close friend's son is also called that. Think we have got a girl's name and middle name which is exciting and much sooner than last time.

As for not showing,I have definitely put weight on (was size 18 anyway!) so just looking fatter and fatter at the moment, desperate to get a bump so that I can look pregnant not just fat! For those who are slender and barely showing, there were 2 girls in our antenatal class who looked about 16 weeks pregnant at 34 weeks, it varies between person so don't worry. I might have felt a flutter last night but not sure. I didn't really feel anything until 18-20 weeks last time but know a bit better what I'm looking out for now I think.

Hope all are well!

Belvedere · 10/01/2016 07:58

Congrats Mrsmugoo I actually till can't get used to it being a girl, I was convinced id have two boys and most of my friends have two boys. Plus, like you all my friends thought I'd have two boys. How does anyone know anyway?! Did you like the scan place?

I have three names I love and they are totally different to DPs so I'm hoping I can wear him down. Last time there was only one boy name we could agree on!

I've got my 20 week scan on Thursday I've been feeling anxious about finding out she's all ok (and the gender is right!)

mrsmugoo · 10/01/2016 08:31

Belvedere - I saw her bits between her legs and worked it out for myself before the Sonographer even said girl - I think it was quite clear! The good thing is, I'm now not as nervous for my 20 week scan because I've seen her wriggling around and I know I've got the anterior placenta blocking me feeling her so I can stop worrying about that bit at least.

Yeah it's really thrown me. I was totally geared for another boy. My DH thinks I'm not happy with the news because it still hasn't properly sunk in, I'm thrilled though! But I feel I almost can't admit how thrilled I am as then everyone will say "see, I knew you really wanted one of each" when I would have been over the moon with a boy.

I'm surprising my parents with the news today - they're bringing my DS back after having him stay for the weekend and they have no idea we even had the scan.

Belvedere · 10/01/2016 08:36

The reaction thing is funny, I've had so many comments like 'oh you've got the perfect pair now' or 'you must be soooo excited' I wonder what they would say if it was another boy?! I'd hope to be just as excited and still think my family was perfect. But it will be lovely, mainly because boys are rubbish when they are older at seeing and calling their mums and having a daughter will
hopefully be different!

I have an anterior placenta for too and haven't felt loads of movements but this week have been feeling quite a few more random pokes and probs, whereas last time I'm sure I was feeling loss more.

My parents were thrilled as they have four grandsons and one granddaughter, so it evens it out a bit! Good luck!

amysmummy12345 · 10/01/2016 08:49

My poor DD was without a name for five days! We just couldn't decide! Dreading picking a name for DD2!!

CharlW1 · 10/01/2016 09:00

Just catching up. So lovely lots of you have found out the sex. I've got until the 1st Feb to wait, which seems ages!
I had my 16 week check in the week and had a bit of a scare as the midwife couldn't find the heart beat. I went to the Early Pregnancy Unit at my local hospital and saw a nurse gynaecologist who found the heart beat straight away - thank goodness! It was a scary few hours. The nurse gynaecologist said she sees so many women around the 16 week mark as midwives struggle to find it and she questions whether they should really try to find the heartbeat at 16 weeks or not.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

mrsmugoo · 10/01/2016 09:04

Yes my midwives won't do heartbeat at 16 week appt for that reason. I think the earliest is 24 weeks for first timers and 28 for subsequent.

CheersMrSunfresh · 10/01/2016 09:10

Wow this thread moves so fast! Lovely scan news, it seems 20 week scan news will be coming in thick and fast from next week, so exciting.

Is anyone not going to find out the sex? It seems lots of people are, which I totally get. But personally for me I need the surprise all the way through to birth, I feel like it spurs me on during labour! Although some family members are wanting us to find out on 18th at the scan so they can start buying, but they understand. I just want everything to be okay with the little wriggler. Can't help but wonder if they'll be any sign of the twin that died, it's on my mind a lot at the moment.

Belvedere hi! It's funny you say that about boys and their mum's. DHs mum has hinted that she feels closer to him than her two dds, they have a lovely relationship, and I hope the same with my two boys, and maybe a third...who knows!

dollydaydream84 · 10/01/2016 09:24

Charl - my midwife asked if I wanted her to try and find it or not for that reason. She said she couldn't act on it (i.e. send me to the EPU) if she didn't find it,she would just bring me back the next week and try again. I decided I would have worried either way so she gave it a go and found it luckily. Last time there wasn't a discussion, she just tried at 16 weeks and found it so I think the new "can't act upon on it" rule has been brought in.

bikingintherain · 10/01/2016 10:12

cheers I love not knowing but thi time as all the baby stuff is in the UK an we need to bring it over here it really does make sense to find out. But we've decided that we're not telling anyone. I'm the one who has been particularly keen not to tell but I don't know if I'm going to be any good at doing so!!

carrie1008 · 10/01/2016 13:08

We're not finding out cheers this is our first (and probably won't only) so want the surprise to help me through labour!

I'm getting lots of comments about having a big bump, even though my midwife said my bump was measuring exactly right...I think there's a lot of bloat on top of the bump!!

carrie1008 · 10/01/2016 13:10

and probably only ... Damn autocorrect!

Snowflake16 · 10/01/2016 13:42

I've got my 20 week scan on Thursday, Can't wait to find out the sex has I'm convinced I'm having a boy. Worrying my sick about the anomaly side of it though.
I'm 20 weeks tomorrow with my first and still not much of a bump, just look really fat.
Have been having flutters and kicks from around 18weeks, had a really weird dream that someone was prodding me in the stomach last night, it was so bad it woke me up only for me to find I was sleeping on my stomach and it baby kicking me very hard. I don't think it was happy, has soon has I moved onto my side it stopped.

CharlW1 · 10/01/2016 13:55

I can't wait to find out the sex but I totally understand those who want it to be a surprise. We haven't really thought of any definite boys or girls names yet.
Really interesting about some areas not trying to find the heartbeat.i was very lucky that EPU would see me (the midwife phoned ahead to check) I was incredibly upset so I think my midwife thought she better try to see if EPU would see me - thank goodness they would.

Belleboo23 · 10/01/2016 14:09

They didn't look for mine either my usual midwife was off sick so I had 2 stand in widwifes and a student so felt a bit crowded and I forgot things I wanted to ask. I've got my own doppler though so wasn't too bothered

MadrigalElectromotive · 10/01/2016 14:18

My 20 week scan is on Tuesday, and I'm pretty nervous about it. Keep worrying about them finding some kind of big problem. Hoping to make sure we really are expecting a dd as well. Smile

20 weeks tomorrow and I'm still sick! Starting to think I may be like this for the whole pregnancy. Hmm

Still haven't felt anything that is definitely a kick, although I feel occasional prods and pushes which could be the baby. I do have an anterior placenta though so I'm not worrying too much (yet!).

TattedPixie · 10/01/2016 14:40

Do any of you ladies know what a uterine artery Doppler is? Google is no good, which is weird lol

PrincessPunzie · 10/01/2016 14:59

I had a crazy baby dream last night. We went for our 20 week scan (and also to pick up a new cat, which I was very worried about in case my cats were jealous - an obvious baby anxiety!) The sonographer was Mindy Kaling from The Mindy Project, and half way through the scan she stole my unborn baby, and put it in an incubation tank! The next day we went back to the hospital to find out what was going on, and no one had ever heard of her...it sounds really stupid now, but in my dream I was most upset! And very relieved when I woke up!!
