I know it's a bit early, but has anyone been considering when to take maternity leave? I'm thinking beginning of June (due 16th) and as I get quite a lot of annual leave, I'm going to book all of May off. I have horses and I know I'll be finding it a struggle in the last few months so I'd like to take it as easy as possible.

cautiousoptimist1 · 26/12/2015 22:40

I'm planning to finish on 27th May at the moment (due 15th June) but I drive for almost an hour each way so depends how I'm feeling by that point. I'd like to work as late as possible to have more time with the baby. Any holiday owed and accrued can be added to the end of my maternity though so I'm thinking about doing the same but at the end of my maternity leave.

I'm not at the stage of needing maternity wear yet but have been looking in the sales and wonder if it's worth buying bits while its in the sale, is anyone else doing this?

TomboyGirl · 27/12/2015 01:04

I'm in the same boat and of the same thinking as you Cautious!

MadrigalElectromotive · 27/12/2015 06:21

I don't know about maternity leave yet - going to see my boss about it in the new year. Think I might give myself about 3 weeks before due date so that would be stopping around the 7th May (am due on the 30th May).

Just noticed that we've graduated again - there is now a September group!

iamdivergent · 27/12/2015 07:46

I'm due on 19th June so planning to finish on 1st, holidays are pro rata so I get some to use prior to mat leave (easter holidays) and the rest have to be tacked onto the end of mat leave so that will be about 19 days so just shy of 4 wks - thats if I'm calculating it right, it's so confusing.

I've bought some mat wear from next sale, won't arrive for about 4 wks though! I'm already in it, I have 2 dds already so my body is used to the stretching lol.

Lovelybeano · 27/12/2015 08:08

Morning everyone, I haven't been on for a few days so I'll try and catch up on posts Smile
I hope everyone has had a fabulous Christmas and has managed to eat something? I made myself a beautiful turkey & stuffing cob with gravy and brown sauce last night, it was delicious but I was absolutely gutted when I could only eat half of it! I seem to be getting full really quickly!!
We told the kids on Christmas Eve and they're so excited!!! My dd who's 9 just kept saying 'omg mummy I'm so proud of you!!' Then saying 'are you sure there's a baby in there?' Heehee, I've also told my close girlfriends now - I'm 15 weeks today and the baby is definitely growing, so people will start guessing soon, although I'm still stuck at the fat look, but my tummy is rock solid now so the next few weeks will be interesting, plenty of exfoliating and moisturising to prep the skin for the next few months!!
I haven't felt much movement yet, I felt my other 2 by now but I'm still only getting the occasional flutter that could still be wind Wink anyone else feeling a lot of movement yet? I'm starting to get impatient, because I always feel better when I can feel them wriggling about, then it kind of gives reassurance that they're ok xx

Mrspopper · 27/12/2015 08:32

Morning everyone! Today is last day of entertaining MIL, she's sweet but exhausting and I just want time with OH and DD.
Last time I saved quite a bit of annual leave so had about a month before she was born. Would highly reccommend if you can as once they arrive time on your own is a thing of the past. I loved pottering around, cinema, reading (was meant to batch cook but didn't!) hoping to do similar this time as will keep DD with her childminder.

Spock27 · 27/12/2015 09:30

Hi all, hope everyone had a good Christmas? Mine was ruined slightly by oh's family taking the opportunity to comment on how fat I was looking. This was after oh having to convince me in the morning that I looked fine and it was all in my head so I wasn't best pleased.

I'm hoping to work as late to my due date as possible though I like the idea of having time to myself before it all starts! Edd is 7th June so probably sometime in the last week of May if I can.

PrincessPunzie · 27/12/2015 09:40

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

I work freelance (writing, of sorts) so I won't get maternity pay. Government maternity allowance isn't much to write home about, so if I can I'm aiming to work a few weeks ahead of myself so that I can take time off for the birth and that'll be it. It's not a cheering thought, but I can't stand the thought of handing my work over to someone else, even for a few months, and as it's all publication-date sensitive that would be my only other option. I feel a bit depressed whenever I think about it, but any time off could affect my chances of future work, so I'll just have to hope for a nice calm baby so that I can carry on!

PrincessPunzie · 27/12/2015 09:43

Spock27 that is dreadful, what on earth is wrong with them?! Being pregnant at Christmas is rubbish enough without people being so rude!!

Betty79 · 27/12/2015 10:35

Morning everyone, just checking in. Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. I'm 16 weeks today, feeling a bit of movement but I get a lot of wind Blushso it's hard to tell sometimes! I'm planning on starting Mat leave at 37 weeks but possibly going part time for a few weeks before that too, it's hard to know how you will feel later on.

Potkettleblack2 · 27/12/2015 10:38

I love Christmas so trying to remind everyone that there are 12 days so we continue to feel festive! Although today I am going to exercise as I'm piling on the pounds with all I'm eating!
I'm hoping to work until the week before my due date too-although that might be difficult considering DC1 came two weeks early!

MollieRos · 27/12/2015 10:50

Hope everyone had a good christmas. My best present was no throwing up on christmas day... and I haven't thrown up since, so that makes today the third day in a row (though I know it's only mid-morning!!). I'm so hoping this is the end of the morning sickness- I'm 18 weeks on Tuesday, so about time!

I was hoping to work until maybe 2 weeks before, so mid may (I'm due the 31st). Depends how knackered I am at that stage I suppose! Does anyone know how it works with accruing annual leave on mat leave? If I do end up taking the full 12 months that would mean my mat leave would end the following May, but then it seems you can tack the annual leave you would have taken during the year onto the end of it. But we're not usually allowed to carry annual leave over to the next financial year. Is there a standard way of doing it or is it just up to my work to decide how they work it?

MollieRos · 27/12/2015 11:07

Oh, and I wasn't going to get any maternity clothes yet but I ended up ordering a few things from New Look online in the sale- a couple of pairs of jeans and some tops (loads of maternity tops on the website for £3 or £4- bargain! I reckon that even if I don't need to wear things for a while, now's a good time to get stuff while it's cheap, as presumably I'll need to wear them eventually.

cautiousoptimist1 · 27/12/2015 11:21

Beano glad you got such a fab reaction! I need to give some thought to skin prep too - any exfoliation or moisturising recommendations? I'm "blessed" with an early January birthday so could ask my sister for some skin prep stuff - she'll love that!

Mollie Mine accrues while I'm off and is added to anything I'm owed - my bank holidays are also added to my own annual leave. I don't know if that's standard or can be set by the company so best to check your company maternity policy if they have one.
