Well I can't believe I am doing this but I am petrified the old thread is about to get filled up and we are going to loose people. ...

Happy New Thread (fingers buffering crossed this works AND I can manage to post the link Confused )

Can anyone give me some advice? I'm 14+2 and have had damp knickers all day. I know an increase in discharge at this stage is normal, but I'm paranoid because I had sex yesterday and am worried I've somehow damaged my cervix and it's a slow amniotic leak. How would I know?

GrubbyWindows · 22/12/2015 16:15

Amniotic fluid has a very distinctive smell, you'd know it was smelling really weird. And a mw would be able to put your mind at rest with one sniff!
I have soggy days which seem to go on a 28 day cycle. Lovely.
Sorry you are worried- it's all so stressful!!

Belvedere · 22/12/2015 17:06

I had my 16 week app today and my consultant appointment. Midwife was quite dull and she didn't even check for a HB. But the consultant was fab and went over my last labour notes and went through elcs and vbac. It was quite emotional hearing about my labour as I'd forgotten so much! Lots to think about now... Even though I doubt I'll change my mind from a elcs. Anyone else had a consultant app yet?

laughingGnomette · 22/12/2015 17:49

I've got mine next week bel. I'm fairly sure I'll be elcs but I'm not 100% yet. It'll be interesting to hear the consultant's view, both midwives I've spoken to had slightly different views.

Betty79 · 22/12/2015 18:37

Bel I haven't got my consultant appt till 26th jan, I will be opting for vbac all being well as dd1 was a vaginal birth, dd2 was elcs as she was breech. I will be asking whether there is the option of water birth too, might be a long shot but would like to know.

After feeling great at weekend with no sickness, last 2 days I've felt sick again but in the afternoons! So can't wait for this sickness to end.

Spock27 · 22/12/2015 19:14

Hi everyone, is there room for one more on this busy thread? I'm 27, due first baby on 7th June. 16 weeks today and still experiencing sickness but a lot less so than a couple of weeks ago - never felt so hungover in my life and not had a drop to drink since before I found out, the joys of pregnancy! Your scans all look lovely and you seem like a really nice supportive bunch, I've been lurking since the first thread but didn't post for some reason - probably because the pregnancy still doesn't feel real!

becky140290 · 22/12/2015 19:17

I don't have a consultant appointment until the beginning of April! I have an appointments at the bacs clinic next month though. Will definitely be going elcs

nehagarg · 22/12/2015 21:53

Welcome Spock ... Glad you are feeling better. I am another one waiting for the fabled second trimester bloom. No joy so far. Was asleep on sofa at 7 PM .. Smile

Lovelybeano · 22/12/2015 22:04

Hey ladies, I haven't been round much, we've had family visiting & busy bee with work & Christmas prepping. I've just got home from a 12 hour day and the oh has gone out to do the Xmas shop for me - that is what you call love!! Lol

Getting closer to Christmas Eve which means telling the kids and telling everyone else eekkk im soooo nervous

GuessHowMuchILoveGin · 22/12/2015 22:36

Ah, so nice for all this festive telling. I told everyone ages ago... They'd certainly guess by now, what with the lack of alcohol and the growing bump!

I was supposed to be seeing the consultant next week, but had to change it as I'm on nights. Will be fairly boring as I'm hypothyroid so just a bloods check. Plus last birth was not straightforward (although wasn't a CS in the end) so probably a chat about that too, not that it'll change anything.

Working until late on Christmas eve, so not really feeling super-festive yet. Anyway, welcome Spock and yay to all the lovely scans.

earlgreydrinker · 22/12/2015 22:43

I've already seen a consultant after a third degree tear last time. Elcs not totally discounted but unlikely as apparently things are managed differently second time round so worth giving normal delivery a go. Would love to try a water birth again as it was brilliant but my labour was too slow. I will have to remember to ask. Get another appointment at 35 weeks to review.

Midwife appointment today. Heard the heart beat for the first time. Just starting to get excited Xmas Grin.

Anyone else not really told people yet? Close family know and I told my boss last week but that's about it. Just got to hide bump till I go on leave for Christmas! Will be obvious by 2nd week of Jan when I go back though!

nehagarg · 22/12/2015 23:16

How exciting earlgrey. Glad all went well. I loved hearingthe heartbeat too.

By the way - came across this. Made me chuckle.

LouLou030783 · 23/12/2015 06:44

My consultant app is on 11th January but only getting one because my notes from previous births were never transferred. sp hopefully it's jut a quick app, not actually seeing a midwife until 22 weeks cause consultant I'll be 16 weeks then got 20 week scan after that xx 22 weeks seems forever away

BabySocks · 23/12/2015 07:10

Hella all, I think increased discharge is entirely normal. .. hope so anyway :) but definitely ask the midwife if you are worried.

I also have a consultant appointment on Christmas Eve, seems to be a lot of us! Do they generally just chat or do they check the heartbeat etc, I really want to know everything is OK Xmas Confused

My consultant appt is on the 8th Feb, I'm really nervous about it cos I think I will just be wasting their time, ds only got stuck for a couple of seconds really and a 2nd degree tear isn't as bad as it could of been, i don't really feel deserving of the appt and I'm scared they'll just think that I'm wasting their time, I may cancel it Confused

MollieRos · 23/12/2015 07:52

Beano I wouldn't worry about wasting their time... I had to have a consultant appointment, though it wasn't clear why. When i got there I was in for about 5 minutes- it was because my BMI is something like 0.3 into the "underweight" category. She took one look at me, established that was normal for me, and said she didn't need to see me again. I could've told her that without taking up an appointment!

Belvedere · 23/12/2015 08:00

The consultant didn't listen to the heartbeat, it was more just a general chat about my options. She went through what happened in my last labour and what my options would be.
She said if I did want a vbac it would be have to be on the labour ward and be monitored incase of rupturing the scar to the womb, she didn't mention the water birth but I know there are some on our labour ward but as s long as you could still be monitored I don't see why you couldn't.
It was really helpful and good to know she would support me in a vbac if I wanted one... But I don't think I do! My labour last time was pretty horrible.

MadrigalElectromotive · 23/12/2015 09:01

Morning everyone! Interesting chat about consultants appointments - mine is towards the end of Jan, which seems really late. Xmas Confused Oh well, I guess they know what they're doing!!

Just think, this time next year we'll be getting ready for Christmas with our 6-7 month olds. Xmas Smile I'm already looking forward to it.

emma85x · 23/12/2015 09:34

Hi everyone, sorry I've been a tad quiet recently. Been keeping track though! Welcome to the newcomers! Congratulations to those who've had scans! I'm 15 weeks tomorrow and apart from constantly worrying, changes in BM and still no sign or a bump all is good! Heard heartbeat last week at MW appointment - so reassuring. Announcing pregnancy on Facebook tomorrow - Picture attached! Hope you're all well Smile

Torfhinn · 23/12/2015 09:37

My consultant appt is next Tuesday, referred because of hypothyroidism and difficult birth. Hoping they won't want to go through the last labour as the midwife did on Monday and made me cry (came out of nowhere!)

Belleboo23 · 23/12/2015 10:06

When I got my notes back after my scan I've been booked in with a premature prevention consultant so will have to see what they suggest. Also got another appointment on there that hasn't been explained to me again at the hospital luckily have midwife just before so hoping she will know more. We are away now until the 27th just the 4 of us in a lovely cottage in the peak district so will try my best to keep up!!

TattedPixie · 23/12/2015 12:22

Emma I love the added touch to your scan picture, very festive.
Struggling today with chronic back ache around my shoulder blades. Currently laid on the sofa, listening to music. Hopefully I can get stuff sorted, I'm heading to Nottingham tomorrow to spend Christmas with my OH and his family

dollydaydream84 · 23/12/2015 12:57

I am hoping for an ELCS but from my first chat with the midwife sounds like they will strongly suggest a VBAC. However, I was so naiive with my first baby, things like "3rd degree tears" were'nt in my vocabulary. I am really more scared to give birth naturally because of that. I figure I've already messed up one part of me with a c-section scar, why bother messing up another part, might as well just add to the scar tissue in the same place. Got a feeling the consultant won't agree with my theory!!

Are tears really not as bad as they sound?

Everyone ready for Christmas?!

Torfhinn · 23/12/2015 13:04

Dolly, never had a tear - I got the joy of an episiotomy! Not as bad as it sounds, but not pleasant. I don't think 3rd degree tears are all that common - you hear about them a lot because people always want to share the and experiences, i think.

But, if you want a ELCS, it's your right to demand that. They can't force you to have a VBAC, but you may have to fight your corner.
