Hi Trace, sorry to hear you have had more problems, please feel free to moan as much as you like, that's what it's all about, isn't it? No idea what the implications of the artery thing are but maybe you should start a thread a someone on MN is bound to know something or be in the same boat. Chloe is a lovely name btw

sputnik · 05/02/2007 13:01

Trace, see you already did that.

notsolilKel · 05/02/2007 15:26

Hi everyone, been knackered with teething/grumpy DS, sorry...

Trace what tough news. You're much stronger than me...keep us posted!!!!

And now for a bit of shameless self promotion, sorry... I've got this buggy/travel system to sell (3 wheel Jane Slalom Pro) . Hoping that I can deal with a mnetter instead of ebay...

On a happy note, got my first item of Cath in the post today. A peg bag. Whoo-hooo

Slightly more depressing, we sold our lovely mini. Getting a 'people carrier' type Toyota thing instead. Hmm guess it comes with having a 2nd kid. Grrr....

MagicGenie · 05/02/2007 16:27

Hi all - remember me?!

I am still around but have been out of action as DH had flu and DS had a stomach bug, so I was doing my best Florence Nightingale for a while. The stomach bug really dragged on...it's been so nice to finally get out of the house this morning; just went to playgroup - DS was so pleased to be out of the house, he went a bit mad! And he ate a proper lunch today for the first time in over a week.

I'm OK - seeing the midwife tomorrow and then it's the 20 week scan next week, although I'll be over 21 weeks by then.

Hope you're all well - gonna go back and read what I've missed! xx.

marylou23 · 05/02/2007 16:42

Hi guys, and sorry to hear about all the snuffles/general knackeredness...Feeling a bit low myself actually - just got back from appointment with obstetrician (have thyroid gland issues so need regular check ups) and turns out I also have something called Factor 5 Leiden which means I've got a higher chance of having blood clot/thrombosis, and also a greater chance of still birth/restricted growth for baby because of clot in placenta. Bloody marvellous. I'm sure it'll be fine; it's just yet another thing to worry about, and I'm now having more scans at 28 and 32 weeks to check the baby's growth, and the obstetrician also wants to induce the baby early at 38-39 weeks to lower my (now much heightened) risk of pre-eclampsia as well as clots in the placenta stopping it from working properly .
Am going to go and put my feet up (high). But not for too long - I have to make sure I move every two hours. And eat lots of garlic. And don't fly anywhere...
Okay, moan over.
On a slightly more frivolous note, if anyone's anywhere near an LKBennett sale shop, they've got some great flat ballet shoes for £39.

Seansgirl · 05/02/2007 16:43

Good to hear from you again Magic! Have my 20 week scan coming up too - this wednesday, on my 36th birthday!

Just been reading the Disscussion of the Day - in laws staying after the birth? recommended cringe reading for anyone who have ils threatening to stay ! Having said that don't know why I'm grinning as this could be me as MIL and StepFIL are coming over from France around my due date. Accomodation has not been discussed but I am already unanimous(sp?) that it will NOT be here!! DH knows nothing about my thoughts yet, but may start to lay the rules down soon, just in case anyone gets any ideas......

Seansgirl · 05/02/2007 16:48

Marylou, sorry x-posted. You moan away all you like, I know I would, as Sputnik said thats what we're all here for! Really sorry to hear your news, at least they have picked it up and they are going to keep an eye on things for you, as you say sure it'll be fine! Sending and good vibes. SG xx

hollyandalice · 05/02/2007 16:53

Marylou, that's rubbish ! A friend of mine has that and her and her baby were fine. Do you have to take anything or is it just wait and see?

hollyandalice · 05/02/2007 16:58

Nice buggy lilkel! I have to get a double too and I'm not looking forward to it! Which peg bag did you get? I have a red one with white spots, but I left it outside and now it's gone all manky and faded. Oops!

sputnik · 05/02/2007 17:11

Read that thread too Seansgirl, some real horror stories. I had my Mum over last time 1 week after DD was born and tbh that was bad enough. Don't know how it'll pan out this time as have added factor of DD and how she'll react to new baby, will need distracting etc. and my Mum isn't the best person for that either as they don't see enough of each other really.

36, you are a mere girl! I turned 40 the other day, plan yourself a nice day and a treat or 2.

Marylou, this blood thing sounds a pain, try not to worry about it too much. Here it's standard to do a scan about 32 weeks to check the placenta, so I guess it's not that unusual. I wouldn't worry about being induced early either, myself I would jump at the chance as once you get to that stage you are just about ready to do anything in order to give birth, believe me.

marylou23 · 05/02/2007 17:14

Thanks guys. Holly, not taking anything although I think I'm going to go back to taking low-dose Asprin (I took them every day up to 20 weeks because of my auto immune thyroid thing...) Apparently lots of people have it and don't even know it, so I guess I'm lucky they picked up on it. And hey, early induction could mean no stretch marks, so there's a silver lining around every cloud, right?
Now, back to that garlic...

annobal · 05/02/2007 17:16

Sorry to hear about everyone's woes. Even the easiest pregnancies are never straight forward are they.

Very at you all having your scans - mine isn't until March! Apparently my hospital believes they shouldn't be done til 23 weeks (I'm actually due on July 3 but as I have never gone beyond 37 weeks thought the chances of this one going late are quite remote - here's hoping anyway). However I do have a cardio scan for the baby next week - it's just precautionary as DS2 has situs inversus (no problem at all just everything is opposite). I am dying to know the sex and might ask next week.

DH had today off so just had hair cut - am going into town tomorrow so may have to have a look at LK Bennett - love their shoes

sputnik · 05/02/2007 17:17

Holly&alice, sorry to sidetrack things for a moment but I spotted you on another thread today and you mentioned you had just got your DD out of your bed. Can I ask you how did you manage it? We still have DD in sidecar cot but I'd like to move her soon, we've been having major work done on the house recently and been putting it off but hopefully her room will be freed soon and I'd appreciate any suggestions. Is it one of those "it was easier than I thought it would be" things (hope so!)

hollyandalice · 05/02/2007 17:36

Hi sputnik! Oh my god it's been an absolute nightmare! I've had 3 really horrible nights sleep and feel like the living dead (oh well might as well get the practice in for the every 2 hour feedings in a few months!). We gave controlled crying another go and it seems to be working. Last night dd only woke up once and was only crying for about 20 mins (that's very good for her). We've got her bedtime down to 9 and going to reduce it by a bit every day, so hopefully we'll get down to 8 in a couple of weeks. Dp is such a deep sleeper that he doesn't hear her so I've been doing all the waking up and getting up. The first night was really bad and the second night was worse, but it seems to be getting better. We've tried this before and it hasn't worked, but hopefully this time we'll be a bit harder. She needs to get out of our bed before no2 comes along, 4 people will not fit in our bed!!

sputnik · 05/02/2007 17:55

Thanks for replying H&A, so has she moved to her own room then or a separate bed in yours? By controlled crying do you mean you let her cry for a bit then go in, hope she stops on her own or what? Sounds like you are cracking it though, sometimes you just have to stick to your guns and see it through, I did that with weaning and it was much easier than I thought in the end. Guess I just have to take the bull by the horns too on this one. Anyway, best of luck for tonight, maybe she will surprise you and not wake up at all.

bumperlicious · 05/02/2007 17:57

Hi all
Hope you are all well. Just wanted to pick up something on your thread MaryLou, sorry to hear about the problems that you have been happening, but was just picking up on your auto immune thyroid thing. My mum had it, and it was undiagnosed for a long time and she was really ill. I've had various blood tests for one thing or another and they found that though my thyroid levels are fine, I have evidence of the antibodies in my blood which suggests that I will likely get it too (I think it can be hereditary). Just wondering how it is for you? Has it got worse in pregnancy?

We had our 20 week scan on Friday and all was fine. Baby is moving around lots now which quick frankly I just find disconcerting! DH can feel it too. I did the measuring thing that you guys have been doing and I am 8.5 sheets of toilet roll - that seems like a lot more than any of you guys! I feel like a Tellytubby! Please tell me it's because I'm shorter than you guys (I'm 5.2)!

marylou23 · 05/02/2007 18:08

Of course it's the short thing - I'm guessing the only way for the baby to grow is outwards!! And 8.5 isn't much - I'm rapidly approaching the 8 mark. Congratulations on the scan and glad everything's going okay.
Re. thyroid, I actually had auto immune hypothyroiditus when I was very young (aged two) - took months of my Mum pestering doctors, plus another two months of me living at Great Ormond St before they figured it out by accident. I take thyroxine every day and am fine (although I needed IVF to get pregnant and more research is coming out in the US about links between thyroid issues and pregnancy/fertility problems, whcih is why I was so bummed to find out I also have this frigging Leiden Factor thing on top of everything). I've had to up my thyroxine dose during pregnancy - my levels are monitored every few weeks by blood tests. Usually in pregnancy people's thyroid glands produce more thyroxine, so I just have to take more artificially. Don't know about your antibodies thing, but my parents both developed an underactive thyroid gland later in life (like in the last ten years; they're both around the 70 mark) - I don't think it's related; apparently it's one of those things that a lot of people get as they get older and they just take a small dose of thyroxine every day. So I wouldn't worry - apart from fertility I've never had any problems at all. Hope this helps...

notsolilKel · 05/02/2007 18:34

MLou, I am cursing you for telling me about the ballet flats at LK Bennet. I want, I need, I have to have ballet flats for spring...oh dear oh dear... and v sorry to hear of your clotting issues. Scary!!

Seansgirl - it's my birthday week too! (Thursday). I will be 33. I think. I honestly stopped counting about, oh I dunno, 10 yrs ago... Happy Birthday to us,,,,Happy Birthday to us,,,,

Holly, thx for the buggy 'props. I got the peg bag in Bird White. I used to keep my pegs in this grotty pink bucket. Blech. So of course I had to get something else in Bird White to match. Namely an ironing board cover....

Genie welcome back - sorry to hear the lurgy's had you too

Sputnik, where is 32 week scan standard? Would be nice... though only for positive curiosity-related reasons of course not worrisome reasons...

Bump, glad your scan went well. Don't worry how big you are. I'm only 7.75 sheets at 23 weeks and people don't know I'm pg when I've got big jumper or coat on, it's a bit irritating actually, like a delivery guy dropped off this super huge box (a printer) for me last week, and just looked at me like, well lazy woman, you don't want me to carry that to the door for you, do you??? Oh the nerve!

hollyandalice · 05/02/2007 20:30

sputnik- she is in her own room now, hopefully for good. I don't think I could handle controlled crying before coz I wasn't really ready to be tough. Dp is the same, he loved her sleeping in our bed, we are both a soft touch! Now I've just had enough of having my hair pulled and being kicked in the night. We just put her in her cot and leave her there for about 15 mins and go in and lie her back down and say goodnight. It sometimes takes a while, but she eventually goes to sleep. I never really agreed with controlled crying before, but I've tried everything else and I'm at my wits end!

I've just measured in loo roll and still 8 sheets! People don't know I'm pg either, don't have much of a bump. Because I'm tall it's more spread out and I just look a little fat! I was the same with dd and didn't start showing really until about 25 weeks. Then I turned into a heffer!!

hollyandalice · 05/02/2007 20:34

I want this buggy it's sooooo pretty. Curse Mamas & Papas for sending me an email!! Alas have to get a boring ugly double .

annobal · 05/02/2007 20:50

H&A it is a very sweet buggy. What sort of double are you getting?

marylou23 · 05/02/2007 20:58

Lilkel, what can I say - ballet flats are just de rigeur this spring. I'm wearing lime green ones as I type...
Holly, that little pram is just too cute. Can't you just get your dd a skateboard to stand on and tie it to the pram handles?

notsolilKel · 05/02/2007 21:01

ok I am getting payback revenge big time now ... I go on and on about Cath and you guys come up with LK ballet flats, adorable little chairs for the nursery, and now this absolutely adorable buggy from M&P!!! IT IS GORGEOUS!!!

Humph. I also need a double. Humph, humph.

hollyandalice · 05/02/2007 23:06

I don't know what type of double to get. I want a Phil and Teds, but they are really expensive and I don't think I can justify spending that amount on a buggy I won't use for that long. Also I don't like the fact the baby behind can't see. It's so tricky.

notsolilKel · 06/02/2007 08:36

Holly, remember tho that the p&t second seat can be removed so 'presto' it's a single again when Alice is ready for buggy board and/or walking...? IKWYM tho they're not cheap.Best price I've seen yet is £340 from practical pushchairs.

There are quite a few (used) Jane Power Twins on ebay - if you plan on going for longer walks outside city shops ever, the Jane buggies are super for that, unlike lighter/smaller tandems....
