No, Jan 15th sweets! I want as much time with baby as possible. But really wish I was finishing sooner as I've had it with work!

Sounds like your NCT group could go either way. We haven't gone that route as can't afford it but don't think it would have been for me anyway, it takes me a while to make friends so I could see it being a waste of money!

I've got a day off today and so glad as I'm in loads of pain - feel like I've pulled a muscle all the way down the side of my bump so it hurts to move, cough, sneeze etc. Think I'll be relaxing a lot in between very slow bouts of housework... !

Boosiehs · 05/12/2015 11:14

Hello all.

Sweets, I don't think so. Is a ref to a posting name I had on a different forum!

Sorry to all those feeling terrible. Stretching really helps bump pain IME.

I have stinking PGP, can't get comfy at night and am massively tired. Also have a grotty cold today. I give up. :(

I'm seriously thinking about getting signed off sick with the PGP. But I don't want to start mat leave this early! :(

Maybe I will see how much holiday I have and use that.

Any nice plans for the weekend? X

Elvi1 · 06/12/2015 02:28

Hi all, I've jumped over from the january thread - I didn't want to join fb and at times felt a bit lost with the thread grinding to a holt - I'm glad this one has been set up!

I'm due 13th jan - team yellow. Mat leave officially starts on 4th jan but work closes from 23rd and have decided my back/ribs can't take anymore so I'm going to take a few days leave and finish on the fri 18th IF I get my work done!! Looking forward to it....

And I have 2 cats and I am worried about the change for them - they sleep in our room which is obviously going to have to stop when baby arrives, and hate thought of locking them out (unless anyone has any safe suggestions about keeping both cats and a newborn in the same room?).

Oh and baby is head down and now can't walk anywhere without feeling like in need the loo!!

BiscuitBeast · 06/12/2015 03:29

Hi all, I'm due DD 20th Jan. Currently wide awake with very active baby and leg and back ache. I have a 2yr old DS that scrambling around for at 34 weeks is bloody exhausting! I'm generally feeling good albeit a ginormous, waddling, huffing n puffing whinge-bag ☺

XxxNewtsxxX · 06/12/2015 05:18

I Elvi1 and Biscuitbeast I'm due 19th of Jan baby been head down for 3 weeks lol doesn't look like he wants to be in there longer than needed. I'm quite lucky in the fact that I'm not waddling yet sorry biscuit lol but constant use of the loo is driving me crazy and pains in the back and knees decide to lock in place after a while 😟 as for cats I'm not sure as cats like warm cosy places to sleep so would likely be drawn to the baby's cot and could end up badly so I would try and keep the cats put of the bedroom/away from the baby while he/she is sleeping just in case. If they are any like my cats one will just hiss at everything (even window frames) the other will just moew at every noise and try to talk to the baby (half Siamese).

But there is no way of havinf both baby and cats in the same room at night while the baby is sleeping and as with all people and animals it takes time to get used to the fact that there is going to be a loud noisey sometimes smelly human come into the home lol.

Hi Elvi! I had my health visitor appointment this week and asked her about pets and babies (I have 1 cat). The advice was not to leave them unattended together and only allow in the same room if you are there, and can focus your full attention on what the cat is doing. As you'll be trying to sleep I'm not sure how you can get around keeping the cats in the same room. We allow ours to sleep in our room occasionally, I'll really miss that once the baby is here so I feel your pain!
Thought I could eat a full 3 course meal tonight... Bad idea for even trying, I've been up all night feeling uncomfortably stuffed with food and baby!

Elvi1 · 06/12/2015 12:10

Thanks for advice - we already knew we'd have to lock them out as there is absolutely no way we would take the risk, but thought I'd ask on the off chance whether anyone had found a solution (unless putting baby in a container, is obviously no solution!). Arr hope they will forgive us - I suppose once baby in own room they can come back so not forever.

Hope everyone having a relaxing Sunday.

2ManySweets · 06/12/2015 20:00

Remind me to never ever go to IKEA again on a Sunday, solo and 8 months pregnant. Nearly lost it with about 40 people and had to dose in car after. Poor DP has been hard at it basically rebuilding the inside of our house but I'm now lodged on the sofa not moving whilst he's still running about. But he can have a beer once done, I can't eliminates all guilt
boosiehs sounds like a Scottish term than means "cuddles". It's a lovely word and thought I had a fellow East Coaster in my midst Wink
Elvi respect to you nipping off at bit early 18 Dec. If you can do it, DO IT!
Am going to spend working from home tomorrow planning what's needed for
A) hospital bag
B) actual baby
All we have so far is a pram and STILL not sure where I'm actually giving birth yet Blush

lilyb84 · 07/12/2015 12:35

IKEA sounds horrible sweets - don't envy you that at all! Hope you're getting on okay with your hospital bag plans etc. We're getting there slowly but I still don't feel I really know what we need and am hoping it'll become apparent once baby's here. I met my BIL's girlfriend yesterday who's a midwife, and she said the most important things to be doing right now are making sure we're getting baby into the best position possible by sitting correctly / doing yoga / using a birthing ball etc, and making birth plans. She also said raspberry leaf tea from 37 weeks - and I've started eating a few dates every day as well.

Over on the FB page they're talking about the home test for strep B and I think have scared me into doing it. Are any of you testing for it?

Elvi definitely finish on the 18th if you can - if I could finish any earlier I definitely would now!

Have to say I'm struggling a bit with this last bit of pregnancy. I don't feel excited or particularly happy, just feel tired, stressed and emotional. Sure Christmas isn't helping either. Hope I start to feel a bit more positive when I'm closer to baby arriving!

Elvi1 · 07/12/2015 14:35

lily sorry to hear you are feeling a bit down. It probably is the stress of box ticking in preparation of baby arriving and preparing for Xmas. Also, I think this is the stage where lack of sleep is really kicking in and it's impossible to sleep comfortable anymore, so that is probably getting you down.

Regarding the strep B - I don't know anything about this other than just googling it, but figured that if I need to be tested the midwife would have asked me to test, and it would have been mentioned at the antenatal classes? Looking at the nhs site, 1:5 women carry the bacteria (which is a high percentage if you think about it) but this rarely causes complications for the baby. So are they thinking about testing before baby is born?? If so, I would have thought this would create unnecessary worry and anxiety at a time when we are already stressing enough. Hmm -maybe I just don't understand but if they are planning on doing a home test I wonder how much validity the midwifes would put on this and they may brush the results to the side. I don't know. I mean, surely there would be other indicators for midwifes to recommend the test because so many people are carriers and the risk factors are so low.

Thinking aloud here so not sure how coherent this response is ha!

lilyb84 · 07/12/2015 15:05

There's been a lot of talk of it for a few months now. Apparently it's not offered by most trusts (probably because of the low risk) but there are also some very strong advocates for it being routinely tested for. So this is why it's not flagged up by midwives as a rule, unless you're high risk for any reason (although apparently 40%of babies affected are born to mothers with no warning signs, and 1/3 of women carry it).

A couple of links below in case these are helpful, I'm still on the fence (and £35 is more than I have for food this week so am having to really carefully consider it!):

gbss.org.uk/who-we-are/testing-for-gbs/ecm-test-where-how/

gbss.org.uk/who-we-are/about-gbs/gbs-prevention/

I do find it quite scary how many things you're just expected to know, or find out accidentally! As if it wasn't a stressful enough time...

Nousername2015 · 07/12/2015 18:48

lily I have requested a test kit (which arrived REALLY quickly, like next day!) It came with a note to say that you only pay if you choose to do it and send back for testing. Maybe request a kit and make your mind up during the testing weeks? Think the ideal window is 35-37 weeks. I am doing it for anxiety reasons more than anything, quite ironic as we chose not to have the nuchal testing at the 12 week scan...

Elvi1 · 07/12/2015 18:51

I see - shows you how much I know about it!

Nousername2015 · 07/12/2015 20:08

I've realised that sometimes with pregnancy there's some things that you're better off not knowing! The risks with some things are so small but you just can't help getting worked up about it.

In other news, I'm down to single figures in days left at work now! They are piling work on me like there's no tomorrow but kind of past caring to be honest...

lilyb84 · 07/12/2015 20:17

That's good to know nousername thanks - I think I'll do that as I can then see what my finances look like just after Christmas when I'll be nearly 37 weeks, and how I feel about it by then.

Yay for single figures! So easy to count down!

Elvi1 · 08/12/2015 21:48

So true nousername

Is anyone else getting excruciating rib pain? I think part of the pain is caused by wearing badly fitted wireless bras (holding on until I can get fitted for nursing bra) but mainly the cause is having a foot stuck in my ribs for most of the day...sometimes it feels like it's stuck there and I have to get up to relieve it. Movements are becoming very painful and I have 5 weeks left still - eeek! I am incredibly grateful that baby is moving around and letting me know it's ok, but I am in a hell of a lot of pain most of the time - anyone else?

Nousername2015 · 08/12/2015 23:03

Yes! Mine likes to stick his bum out lots in all sorts of places and it can be really sore, it feels like there is no room left in there and I've still got 6 weeks left!

vickyors · 09/12/2015 16:32

Hello everyone. I've stalked various threads but not joined. I'm due 30th Jan, but due to meet consultant about elcs next week (I had lots of complications after a 'natural' delivery with my first) so my midwife says it may be around 24th.. Suddenly feeling quite tired, but baby is really wriggly, which is good..

lilyb84 · 09/12/2015 18:09

Welcome vicky! Glad to hear baby is wriggly and that you're getting plans in place for an ELCS. Not that many weeks away now!

elvi do you have a gym or birthing ball? They can be good for relieving rib pain by getting the baby to shift into a lower position I think. I'm getting the occasional foot-in-ribs but fortunately not too much pain specifically in that area. Baths and paracetamol too maybe?

vickyors · 09/12/2015 19:17

And nousername I feel the same- I can't quite believe I've got 7 weeks to go (not helped by people saying helpful things like 'I think I was about that size at full term'!) arhhh! Smile

Elvi1 · 09/12/2015 22:15

Hi vicky!

Yes lily I have a birthing ball but by the time I get home from sitting at desk all day I'm usually too tired to sit on it during the week. At work I have cushions which I think has improved my posture, and I make sure that I don't cross my legs. I tend to be up and about quite a lot thinking about it, so maybe just unavoidable pain, but I should definately make more effort to bounce on the ball at weekend and to do some yoga moves at home! I'll try to go swimming this weekend too!

Nousername2015 · 10/12/2015 06:36

Hi Vicky!

Went to an nhs birth prep class last night which was really good and didn't muck about with the facts. The most interesting things I learned were (and apologies if everyone knows this already, I had no idea!)
The most common day for first timers to go into labour naturally is 40+10 Hmm
The only old wives tales proven to bring on labour is sex and long walks. Apparently there is something in semen that they also put into whatever they use for induction (prostaglandins?)
Nipple simulation from 37 weeks is also good for bringing labour on on time.

I also found out that the labour ward at my local hospital closes at least once a week due to capacity issues! They also don't offer food so there is none of this magical tea and toast I keep hearing about. I want to go to a birth centre anyway, hence why I was so interested in getting things started naturally (and they have their own kitchen there!)

lilyb84 · 10/12/2015 10:49

Glad the class was good nousername! That's crazy that they have to shut the labour ward once a week - where in the country are you?!

40+10 would take me into February (EDD 22 Jan) and for some reason that's not particularly rational I'd like to avoid that - I want a January baby like me Smile Saying that, we've had four babies born already out of the 56 women on the MN/FB group, and I know my nephew was a week early, so I'm hoping this one follows the trend (although not before 37 weeks thanks very much).

DH and I picked up a cold over the weekend so currently feeling a bit bleurgh. On the plus side, my team at work are having our Christmas lunch this afternoon so I only have to get through a few more hours then it's off to the pub for some tasty food Xmas Grin

Hope everyone's okay today!

lilyb84 · 10/12/2015 11:22

Oh and elvi good news - I took your advice and called about the parent craft classes. It took me almost a day to go all get through to someone (and she said I was top on the list to be contacted - yeah, yeah) but I'm now booked in for two three-hour classes on the next two Tuesdays. So happy! Even if they're no good I'll feel better for having ticked them off my list - and hoping they'll be useful for DH as well. Thanks for encouraging me to be proactive!

vickyors · 10/12/2015 15:27

Actually, that reminds me I'd like to go to our hospital classes again.. They were really good last time (we also did nct to rent a friend!) I was 15 days overdue last time, so if c section goes ahead at least I know I'll have a baby in January!
