Hi Girls,

Back from Geordieland!

Glad to hear you're having a fab time with your DH LG&T. Assume the ball was fabulous too and the champers flowed.

MKG - Got the nose bleeds too, but only intermitently. Thank Goodness.

Bethnalhembub - my 20wk scan is on the 16th too. Is your's at the Royal too?? Mine is 9am.

Got my mw appt today. Hoping she listens to heartbeat. Am getting anxious as little weight gain and it's too early for me to feel movement as this is my first, so convinced all is not well - pure pg-panic mode.

Pebble - sorry your DH is being a bit of a tw*t. Sounds like he needs to grow up a bit and make some grown up choices. He needs to put you and the kids first and give his mum a good talking too. She's only bluffing with the ultimatum. If he tells her how it's going to be she won't risk loosing him. MIL's - ARRRGGGHHH

SKYYV, I acknowledged you little boy bean when you said it. I love having a boy. There's something about there natural "search and destroy" attitude that I love.

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 14/12/2006 12:16

I have to add ds came out with his first phrase . . . ."Hey you". Every morning when I go get him I say "Hey you", well yesterday he said it back. He's still not too keen on the whole walking business, but he's so proud of his "hey you".

Juicythe2ndnotsowiseman · 14/12/2006 12:24

SKYTV - not so worried about the football, but what if Pod turns into a mini version of DH - he was a right little sh*t as a child!! In all sorts of trouble with police and everything. I think he could definately be described as a tyke!! (Mischievious little buggar is probably more accurate though)

But as you say we will love them whatever flavour they come out.

MKG - Bless him, does he say it properly or in a cute almost right way?

I know you acknowledged MKG. The whole thread was really quiet last weekend.

Your DS sounds really cute.

LetitShnowLetitShnowLetitShnow · 14/12/2006 13:53

Afternoon all.

Currently in the throes of trying to sort the logistics of moving a piano from one side of a city to another. You'd think it was a simple thing...

SkyTV I think I've already been overly happy for your flavour news, but I can do it again just for you:

WOOOOHOOOOO! A BOY! FIRST GENDER FOR THE MAY 07ers!!

I love boys. None of that pink, petty, bitchy nonsense, definitely search and destroy. Very id orientated boys, 'food' 'sleep' 'pleasure' and usually as soon as possible. Can you tell I want a boy? Would be happy to have a girl but NO PINK!

Anybody know where you can get cool baby clothes that don't cost the earth? Not buying yet- but like looking. I'm going to make lots but so far have bought a bright purple newborn pixie hat (ends in very long point with tassle on end) and a tie-dyed baby-gro, both from ebay (I'm such a hippy). I like unusual, patchworky, ethnicky, hippy type stuff. Any ideas? I like Uttam and Oillily but so expensive. I'm planning on just buying lots of plain sleepsuits and babygros as they grow so quickly but would love some cool little things for special occasions/taking pics etc.

I've just started making a patchwork cot blanket and it's looking great. Haven't bought anything yet but been given a monitor, some hooded towels, a bath and a travel system (unused). I won't start shopping until I'm about 34wks ish but I'm so excited!

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 14/12/2006 13:57

He first said like "ehh ooo", but by the end of the day the Y was definitely audibloe so it's of "ehh you". So he says mama, dada, and hey you.

But he lost all his cuteness this morning. I went in to get him, and his roomed smelled of poop. there was poop on his lips, poop on his hands, up and down his legs, all over his crib. Needless to say we had both a bath and laundry emergency.

LetitShnowLetitShnowLetitShnow · 14/12/2006 13:58

Thanks MKG, that's lunch over then...

PS He sounds lovely!

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 14/12/2006 14:04

How do you think I feel? The whole upstairs smells like poop now. I haven't eaten breakfast yet.

He is really cute though because when I went in he had a poop covered smile on his face. I was torn between taking a picture and calling poison control.

Juicythe2ndnotsowiseman · 14/12/2006 14:09

Yip, glad I finished my lunch BEFORE coming back on!!

On the baby stuff front, Marks Nana has crocheted us the loviest baby blanket. That's all we have so far. That and the Cow & Gates freebie cow!!

I love homemade blankets. My mom always makes some for babies born in our family. I wonder what color the new one will be.

geordiemacmincepie · 14/12/2006 14:12

Hey ladies.. just popping accross from the April thread.... was just wondering whether we had any scottish mums on here... if so, there is a new thread in the pregnancy section entitled bumps north of the border... please pop in and say hello.. we have occasional meet ups and generally moan about the state of the scottish health system.

Apologies for the blatent tout..

lildrummerKel · 14/12/2006 14:22

MKG, how old is your boy? I'm totally PMSL.... I've got a 9mo old and the poo situation has been getting more and more, um, cumbersome, I'm just waiting for the day when it manages to fully escape the nappy. Tee hee hee still PMSL at the poopy smile, sorry...

Hi all & SkyTV congrats on discovering your baby's gender! I was totally unprepared when they told me last year that I was having a boy. It's been great though. I mean, you can see the little monster inside him sometimes but actually it's very sweet to love a little boy. That said, I'm hoping for a girl this time round

Been v. v. tired and grumpy so am going back to bed now. Hope you ladies have a fab, fab afternoon & very about the big French meal you're having, Juicy!!!

twelvedaysofchristmas · 14/12/2006 14:34

RRBK - You might have already, but could be worthwhile to speak to a mortgage broker, say like Charcol? They can sometimes do all sorts of jiggery pokery so you don't always need the cash you think you will.

We certainly wouldn't be buying our house if we couldn't have got a 95% mortgage...

peacemakeruk · 14/12/2006 14:34

how funny is this, my DH has booked us into a fancy hotel for our 2nd wedding anniversary next July, we'll obviously be taking the baby with us, dinner is included in the price, he's booked the table for 2 for 7.00 p.m. including a highchair - you can tell he's a first time dad thinking that a 2 month old baby can sit in a highchair

RobinRedBreastsKennedy · 14/12/2006 14:38

Mkg you lucky lucky lady. I look forward to those experiences. My two little sisters are 10 & 12 years younger than me and I had to do a lot of mothering in my youth when my mum was recovering from her hysterectomy, and youve just reminded me of the level of poo and sick and general gunge that is part & parcel. Heres hoping my sense of smell goes back to normal by then.

Ladies in UK. I have one word for you today. PRIMARK (or as we call it, Pri MarcJacobs). Ive just spent £X.XX in there this lunchtime and while I know its all pretty disposable stuff, bloody hell. They have bundles of smock style tops and baby doll dress/top things all for about £10! It was like feeding time at the zoo at the one in Hamemrsmith which isnt so great, but hey its that time of year. Was so tempted to look at baby stuff but for some reason Ive not ventured at all yet anywhere. Still waiting for the 21week scan. God, i think I need that hypnotism you were all talking about .

twelvedaysofchristmas · 14/12/2006 14:39

Maybe he's just planning on having a very precocious child!

My mum swears and her salon customers have corroborated over the years, that I was walking (whilst holding onto things) at 4.5 months...

So, you could be needing that highchair after all.

peacemakeruk · 14/12/2006 14:41

you can tell he's very excited at having his first baby can't you, probably just didn't think but its made my day

Re. Primark, because I was a 16/18 before I got pregnant I won't get anything to fit me now in there unfortunately. I hate the Hammersmith one, its always packed, I prefer the Kingston one.

twelvedaysofchristmas · 14/12/2006 14:42

RRBK - It's an Irish company actually! Except we call it Penney's.

AFAIK every Primark/ Penney's has it's own buyer so you'll find some stores have brilliant stuff and some of them are a bit crap. Also depends on what area it's in - they seem to cater to some degree, to the "general" local standard of living. (I'm not casting any aspersions, just so we're clear!)

I go to Penney's whenever I'm in Dublin. I love it. I don't seem to have a Primark near me here.

RobinRedBreastsKennedy · 14/12/2006 14:45

TDOC thanks for that, I will look them up. At the moment we are looking into housing associations and their joint ownership schemes, which are wonderful, but you could be on their list for a couple of years before you get lucky.
Just a shame that we live & work in Londons most expensive neighbourhood.

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 14/12/2006 14:56

Kel, my ds is 16 months I have to say it was hilarious. because I ran him into the bathroom clothes and all and he just thought it was the most fun ever. Did I mention he still had his diaper and a onsie one. So how to poop escaped will remain a mystery to us all.

twelvedaysofchristmas · 14/12/2006 15:00

Fingers crossed for you RRBK, either with getting a loan or a shared ownership. We just told them that we wanted the greatest loan-to-value we could get (most important as we NEVER save money) and that rate was the next most important thing, although it had to have no penalties and they came back to us with a deal.

So long as you get a no-penalty loan, you can change lenders for a better one, once you've got the deeds in your hands and the value has gone up a bit. It's so long since we put our offer in on our place (4 mths), that the value has already gone up by about 4% anyway. It's worth remembering that when you're buying in London. Your LTV won't be high for very long.

I feel for anyone that's renting long term. It's not like Europe, where your lease is more or less unlimited and it feels like your own place. It's so uncertain here. I hated the last 4 years of renting. shudder

twelvedaysofchristmas · 14/12/2006 15:02

I'm not very good with mess MKG. Perhaps I should be hoping for another girl?

I think I'm probably in for a real shock with this baby. DD was so good, great sleeper, eater etc. What will I do if this one is different???

LetitShnowLetitShnowLetitShnow · 14/12/2006 15:06

Primark is great for reasonably priced basic items. You can get packs of 5 sleepsuits for £7- bargain. I just hate having to go in there. Ooh the mess, the people, the shoving...

12DOC I'm with you- 95% mortgage, but you have to make sure there's no higher lending charge for only putting down £5%. Lots of deals available, mortgage advisors are great!

twelvedaysofchristmas · 14/12/2006 15:10

We got a great deal in the end. 95% ltv, rate was base rate +0.75% with no early redemption penalty. When the broker I decided not to use heard, he more or less said that it would fall through as "he would have known if that deal was on the market." Then when I said it was with LTSB Scotland and I had the offer in my hands, he said it couldn't be as we weren't buying in Scotland. Tosser. Turns out Charcol got us a deal which was "officially" over, but obv have the contacts in order to get things done.
