Hi just got my bfp! I'm early, 3 days before AF was due so not sure if I'm the only one with an August due date?

I agree alduxbury go by your ovulation timeline. Mention it to your mw. You can get some due date calculators which let you input your ov date so maybe try and find one of those?! If you go by lmp it won't be an issue but your dates will prob be put back at scan.

PourMeSomethingStronger · 08/12/2015 21:22

Well, I had my booking in with the midwife today, and not a lot has changed since last time. But as DS2 was a big baby (10lbs 2oz) I will apparently need a glucose screening at 28 weeks. Has anybody else had this? I didn't show any signs of gestational diabetes with him, or DS1.

alduxbury I have a long cycle too, and don't actually know when I ovulated as I hadn't really started tracking yet and got lucky. The midwife today said she didn't really know how it worked Xmas Confused so just put 5-7 weeks in my notes and said the scan would clear things up! I put myself closer to 5 weeks I think, and definitely not 7, but she said it's better to have the scan earlier than later for peace of mind.

How are you feeling now lily? sounds like you're having a hard time of it. I hope your sickness and tiredness ease up soon.

I was also asked today whether I wanted a home birth. Is anybody else considering it? I tried for it with DS2, but his heart rate was dropping a bit between contractions so they sent us in to be checked and he was born half an hour later...

Speaking of DS2, he decided he wanted a chat at 4am and I couldn't get back to sleep after he went back down, so I'm off to bed now.

Has anybody else started with the vivid crazy pregnancy dreams yet? I'm sure I had one last night, let's see what tonight brings....

alduxbury · 08/12/2015 21:30

Hi all. They pop me at a due date of around 02/08/16 which they still class as six weeks. We shall wait and see - it's all we can do. Need the bloat to go away though or else it will be game over for keeping this under wraps until the middle/end of January! Thankyou for the advice. I'll speak to the doctor at my appointment tommorow and request a scan closer towards what I know will be 12 weeks X

MrsSantaClause · 09/12/2015 05:30

Pour I'm hoping to try for a home birth this time round. Not had one before so not sure what to expect, but I really want a water birth, so going to have to look into pools etc too.. Fingers crossed I'll be able to have one though as my 2 boys were both 4 weeks early Shock

SimileMilly · 09/12/2015 06:58

After a long, mismanaged labour with DD i am thinking of looking into my options for an ELCS. I've woken up feeling really sick this morning but still had to POAS just to be sure Blush

PourMeSomethingStronger · 09/12/2015 07:04

Well ds2 is up early again this morning. I'm sure he knows something is different already! He's usually a complete daddy's boy but for the past 2 weeks it's been all about mummy.

I think you will just have to see what they think your risk factors are mrssantaclause, so i hope you get it if it's what you want. I am still considered low risk as there wasn't actually anything wrong with ds' s heart rate when we got to hospital so it was a false alarm. In retrospect they thought they had been picking up my pulse rather than his heartbeat.

But it's put me in 2 minds what to do this time. I'd love to have this baby at home. Ive laboured quite quickly with the other 2 and didn't get any pain relief with either of them, as there wasn't really time to think about it. But if anything serious happens we are half an hour from hospital. So much to think about already! If we lived closer it would be a no brainer for me.

BergamotMouse · 09/12/2015 09:09

I'd really like a home birth pour. But it's my first so don't know if they recommend it. I've never been in hospital before but really hate the thought of being separated from DH if I have to stay over night. Just want to be able to be together in our home.

I'll probably end up having a hospital birth though just in case something goes wrong.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 09/12/2015 10:51

Mouse I had a homebirth with DD (so first baby) and can't recommend it enough. It was absolutely amazing, I can honestly say I loved giving birth! Don't get me wrong, it wasn't easy, but I felt like superwoman for ages afterwards (til the tiredness set in a couple of weeks later!). My mw was very unenthusiastic and refused to even discuss it with me til I reached 36 weeks with no problems, I did all the driving but it was so worth it. And the mws I had in labour were fantastic. Will definitely be doing it again, all being well with this baby!
Had the tiniest bit of spotting last night. Cue utter panic and convincing myself that I would wake up blood but nothing more this morning. Keeping everything crossed!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 09/12/2015 11:00

*to see blood, obviously!

Christinedonna · 09/12/2015 11:04

I didn't think you were allowed to have a home birth with your first child, or twins? Maybe that's just advised. I was actually conceived, born and grew up in the same room of my house! Crazy. I've never thought about home birth.. I hate hospitals but I think I'd just feel safer there, but major credit to anyone that does it! Much more personal and I suppose you can't feel more at home..than when you're actually at home! I think my cramps are lessening. Rather than getting cramps as soon as i get into bed and laying awake for hours. In have now been beaten by lack of sleep so fall asleep fairly quickly but wake up in the middle of the night due to cramps. Although I don't think it's anything to do with my bladder it seems to ease or disappear all together when I get up and go to the toilet. Maybe it's just the movement that helps

Christinedonna · 09/12/2015 11:07

I'm 6 weeks today! (Mini celebration this morning). I have my scan tomorrow at 6+1 and just wondered if anyone has had a scan around this point and seen/heard the heartbeat?

FourForYouGlenCoco · 09/12/2015 11:39

Christine this is totally not a rant at you but this is my personal bugbear and I often get on my soapbox about it so now seems as good a time as any:
YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DO ANYTHING YOU WANT.
There is no such thing, in maternity, as 'not allowed'. Midwives/Drs can RECOMMEND what they believe to be the best course of action, but absolutely no one can force you to follow it. You are entitled to accept or refuse any medical treatment or protocol you like, and you ARE allowed to speak up if you don't like the way something is being handled, or you'd like a second opinion.
You are the boss. HCPs exist to provide a service, not to dictate what you are or are not allowed to do. Obviously I'm not suggesting you milk the system, but equally no one should be fobbed off with 'not allowed' because that's not fair and it goes against the NMC Code.
The only thing they are allowed to refuse is use of the birth centre, but they have a duty to provide care if you choose a homebirth 'against medical advice'. Again obviously I'm not suggesting anyone try and homebirth a transverse baby or anything that's clearly not a good idea, but never think you don't have control because you really do!
Ok I'm off my soapbox, I just really hate that HCPs/mws make women think they have to listen and obey when that's not the case at all.

Somnambulator · 09/12/2015 11:39

Christine good luck with your scan today! I'm 6+4 and heading for a scan tomorrow. Feeling nervous.....

Biscuitswithtea · 09/12/2015 11:50

Hear hear Coco Grin

People do have choice, it just doesn't always feel like it. DS was a hospital birth, we were refused midwife unit for various reasons. I would love to go there this time but I don't know if I would be accepted. I have a hole in my heart which causes no ill effect but made the midwife twitchy last time. But I also had two haemorrhages post delivery with DS and that caused a LOT of fuss. Anyway, still c35wks to make that call!

Biscuitswithtea · 09/12/2015 11:51

Ps - good luck to those with scans coming up :)

Christinedonna · 09/12/2015 11:56

That is very true FourForYouGlenCoco, I already know I'm not going to breastfeed and I just know I'm going to be so pressured into it by a midwife/ doctors and especially at the hospital. I don't think anyone I've ever spoken to that has chosen not to breastfeed has said no one tried to convince them otherwise. For whatever reason, even if it's just purely because they don't want to, I feel like a lot of women are looked down their nose at because of this decision. I really feel for women without a strong support system or maybe don't feel comfortable enough to say "my baby my choice". I for one have and will make many decisions for myself that I will stick to regardless of anyone else's opinion, uniform or not!
Sonnambulator- my scan is tomorrow too! 10:20 at a hospital about a 45/1 hour drive from me so that'll be a lovely early morning! Have you been told anything about preparing? I asked my doctor if I should have a full bladder or not and he said "oh no don't worry about that!" So I rang the hospital as I didn't think that was right and just as I suspected she said "come with a full bladder and we'll try external, if not you'll empty your bladder and we'll do internal"

BunchOfBobs · 09/12/2015 12:17

Ooh how exciting for the scans. How have you ladies got such early scans? Are they private?

Christinedonna · 09/12/2015 12:18

I just told my doctor about my cramps and for peace of mind he booked me in at the early pregnancy unit for a scan. Very easy

PickleBot · 09/12/2015 12:56

I started with a home birth with DS, he was my first. I was transferred into hospital for pain relief and because I wasn't dilating fast enough. Almost 24 hours of active labour (and 20 hour in non-active labour that still bloody hurt!) only got me to 6.5cm dilated. I ended up with an emergency section in the end, it turned out DS was back to back and had presented his forehead and not his crown. Each contraction was only flexing his neck which wasn't putting enough pressure on my cervix to dilate properly. The surgeon said he wouldn't have come out even if I hadn't decided to go for a section. I know I'll have to go for a consultation at the hospital to have my scar checked and I don't think they'll be happy about inducing me due to the rupture risk. So if I'm going to VBAC it will have to be spontaneous. I'm not sure if I want to try it, I'm terrified the same thing will happen again.

BergamotMouse · 09/12/2015 13:25

It's nice to know I can push for a home birth for my first if I want to. Will see how I get on and listen to recommendations etc. I know if have judgemental looks from SIL who had a very difficult hospital birth which wouldn't have turned out well at home.

I think I'll be so much more relaxed which can only help. I've been looking into getting the natal hypnotherapy CDs and book. Has anyone tried hypnobirthing / thinking about trying it?

ToElleWithIt · 09/12/2015 13:35

GlenCoco - rant away - well said

Christine Hope the scan goes well

Yikes Pickle that sounds tough. DS was back to back until I was 10cm and then by having me contort into weird and wonderful positions managed to turn him. The pain was horrendous and I'd be really curious to see if there's a marked difference if the baby was anterior this time. I actually just googled OP and just realised that it's linked to waters breaking before labour and erratic labour. I didn't know either of those things. Interesting because the junior midwife delayed bringing me into the labour ward properly because my contractions weren't regular and "I wasn't in labour". I must request a copy of my notes from last time.

I should have booked in on Tuesday, but can't quite bring myself to do it. Still anxious about a MC. I remember having to ring last time and cancel the appointments and not being able to hold it together. I need to do it today.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 09/12/2015 13:39

Pickle you poor thing, what a slog! I don't think anyone can say you should or shouldn't go for VBAC over ELCS - it's so individual, only you know what's best for you! To be fair though I have heard people (who had EMCS first time) absolutely swear by their subsequent VBACs, it's apparently a completely different ball game!
I'm currently sat in GP surgery having rung the on-call GP and panicked at her. Forgot how rank my GP is. Smells a bit phlegmy 😣 will be worth it for EPU referral though. Realised when I was on phone to doc that I've not actually told anyone out loud that I'm pg (the one friend who knows just got a text!) and saying the actual words made me a bit weepy and wobbly! Hoping I keep it together when I see her.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 09/12/2015 13:41

Doh typos!! I mean swear by subsequent ELCS, of course VBAC would be different!!! Apparently electives are loads better in every way, never known anyone regret theirs!

Christinedonna · 09/12/2015 13:52

Just had a bit of brown discharge when I wiped. Not dark brown just a bit of a tint. Should I be worried?

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 09/12/2015 16:18

coco absolutely right. They can only recommended. If everything goes well with my pregnancy I am going to push for a home birth even though its my first. With my phobia and general hospital anxiety I do not think it would be good for me to be in hospital unless I absolutely have to be. Fingers crossed!

My booking in is on the 23rd and I think I'll be 7 +2 then all being well!
