Sonia - how reassuring of your GP to not know about the flu jab & pregnancy (not)! Jeez!

EllieJayJay · 20/11/2015 12:13

I had a similar situation with the GP I initially saw.

Was very proud to tell me she has just qualified and that I was her first pregnant lady and wow congratulations to me (had only said I'm pregnant and need advise - imagine if this was not a happy occasion for a lady)

Not really what you want to hear when it's your first child and you have specialist conditions! Never even asked about my medication and her only question was "is the father on the scene as you can never be sure in some parts of this area!" I live in a very lovely part of Hampshire. She went out to see another doctor half way through and didn't give me an ounce of advise, didn't ask about smoking or drinking or anything - thankfully I have a brain :)

Example of how now not to deal with pregnant ladies :)

I booked an appointment with another doctor as I had called the midwife to see if I could get an earlier appointment and she suggested my now new doctor who is amazing!! I'd met her once before but to get appointments very difficult :) because she is so good - she sent off letters to the consultant that evening and put my mind completely at rest.

I'm fairly new to my area (less than 18mts)

Hi

Can I whisper a hello, I'm 4+1 so very early, and looks like I'll be due 28 July 2015. I got a lovely digital positive late this morning after some worrying early tests which seemed to be fading. I had an early mc last month at 4+6, so trying to keep calm, but then I never got a digital positive last month, so that's a good sign.

This will be our first, although I've had 1 mc and 1 ectopic years ago before the mc last month and a chemical the month before that, so it's been a rocky road for me.

I'll be 35 in February, so I really wanted to be pregnant by then. It's also really lovely that my big sister is expecting twins in April, so my parents will suddenly be inundated with grandkids!

"is the father on the scene as you can never be sure in some parts of this area!"

shocking! what a naive statement to make. she would have had no idea of your circumstances, or anyone elses that finds themselves on their own from no fault of their own for that matter.

yeah i think GPs generally don't need to know anything about pregnancy - they leave it to the midwives. maybe these initial appointments are in case you don't want to keep the baby and don't want to bring that up at your booking in appointment. otherwise they are a bit of a waste of time on both sides.

redstrawberries101 · 20/11/2015 12:23

Hi everyone,

I went for the scan and thankfully they could see the gestational sac and the yok sac inside it. No heartbeat but she said at 5-6 weeks this is normal.

They were pleased that the pregnancy is in the right place and blood results the other day were in line too so they have discharged me from the EPU unit. Any further problems and I've to phone back.

Such a relief but I don't know if I'll manage to relax at all as its still a long road!

Congrats and welcome to the new joiners!

HopesAndDreams15 · 20/11/2015 12:28

Great news Melvali! What a relief!

Welcome Lily! Smile

Jo6526 · 20/11/2015 12:28

Ellie that's shocking for doctor to say! Well saying newly experienced! Where are you in Hampshire? I lived in Southampton for 6 years moved back to Scotland last year. Love Hampshire

SunnyScot89 · 20/11/2015 12:29

Hey mel thats fantastic news. So happy for you. Fingers crossed for an uneventful next few months! When are you booked in for your 12 week scan?

SoniaShoe · 20/11/2015 12:29

melvali that's fantastic news! so pleased it must be such a relief for you.

this is such a scary and fragile time isn't it! roll on those 12 week scans for all of us!

welcome lilygirl and congratulations to you. it sounds like you've had a difficult time recently so fingers and everything else crossed for you that this is the one. keep doing those tests (i'm still doing them - i just did one today and i'm 7+6!) and look after yourself, that's all you can do.

Jo6526 · 20/11/2015 12:29

That's really positive news Mel xxx

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 20/11/2015 12:32

Oh Melvali that's brilliant news - I'm so pleased for you!

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 20/11/2015 12:33

Lily waves. I'm super excited and happy for you. That's a good line and those digitals aren't known for being sensitive. I bet you can't quite believe it. Due to what's happened previously I would try and take things as easy as you can & let the gp know ASAP. Just so you are in the system. Squee exciting.

Mel any news yet. Hope all is well. Thinking of you.

I just took ds3 to have the flu spray and I mentioned the flu jab for me and she done it there and then. I now have a sore arm it's painful and swollen. I'm not concerned as it was exactly the same last time. Just annoying when I have a two year old to lift about.

I have really dark urine at the moment. Anyone else. I really thought I was drinking enough. Maybe not.

7+1

Vickie360 · 20/11/2015 12:34

Iv just been to the app the doctors gave me and they said they had given me the wrong one Angry was supposed to be my booking app but hadn't left me any time for it so waiting for another one Sad was quite excited about it too and getting a scan date but nothing X
Don't know y I feel like crying now it's so petty X

Welcome lily congrats on your positive and good luck Flowers

SoniaShoe · 20/11/2015 12:37

Flowers melvali Flowers Grin

EllieJayJay · 20/11/2015 12:41

So pleased Mel xxx big big big hugs x

As for the young doctor Hmm it was just shocking! I an quite posh sounding but she didn't know my situation at all - so instantly made assumptions about me and could have been very awkward... Very naive young lady really with lots to learn, I think she was quite up herself as she was now a fancy doctor... Confused

I live quite near Southampton about thirty minute drive and it is lovely we have a boat down there - so spend a lot of time near the sea :)

Brilliant Mel. Absolutely delighted for u. These first 12 weeks will have us all on tenterhooks! And that's just the beginning!!! I'm so nervous about my follow up scan on Monday. Had mild cramping and some light pink/brown discharge yesterday and again last night. Still slightly cramping today. Nerves are wrecked!

LuckyinOctober · 20/11/2015 12:58

Brilliant news melvali, pleased for you. I'm not optimistic I'm afraid for me, just wiped a red blood smear and I'm expecting to find tomorrow that hcg has gone down or at least not up and it'll be more about finding out whether I'm miscarrying or going through an ectopic pregnancy. The limbo of not knowing is what I'm finding hard, I'll be able to cope with any outcome once I know what I'm dealing with so roll on tomorrow.

SunnyScot89 · 20/11/2015 13:00

Oooo well I've got dog training tonight then we've got a meeting with the bank on saturday to sort out our morgage, then my mum is comin on Sunday, maybe a wee ikea trip in there too. Exciting eh??!
