Melvali, I'm so sorry that you're going through this. I really hope everything turns out okay for you.

I had my booking appointment this morning. I was an absolute wreck beforehand - I'd got myself in a right state and was sweating like crazy! I did as suggested and drank plenty of water, told her I was dodgy with blood, and recited a long poem (The Highwayman!) out loud while she took the blood - she was very good about pretending I wasn't a total weirdo! My veins weren't great though and she had to take a vial from each arm in the end - but the key thing is I didn't faint.

The appointment was just over an hour in total. Went through medical history for myself and DH, asked about domestic violence (just to prepare you guys - they have to ask, and they will ask at least twice during your pregnancy), gave a urine sample as well as the bloods. Got given a bunch of leaflets and my nice smart notes folder (let's see how long I can keep that one tidy).

I also wanted to mention to you ladies a little bit of TMI but that might help somebody... I had some really weird discharge the other day that was green, basically like snot. My midwife said that any coloured discharge needs to be investigated, so gave me a little self-swab to do in the toilet (this was really easy, although I did cock up by forgetting to take the lid off the pot when I tried to put the swab away inside it). So yes, any coloured discharge, mention it to your healthcare provider!

My scan date will come through in the post next week, apparently.

Thank you girls! So nice to know you are here. I don't want to take this happy thread over with such negativity but really appreciate your support.

Allthegoodnames thank you that is wonderful advice!

I just keep thinking the embryo hasn't survived and that's why my symptoms have subsided and bleeding started.

The nurse who took my bloods was a lot nicer albeit not that positive. She said if I was 6 weeks they would've gone straight to a scan. If my levels are 2000 they may still do a scan. She said she will phone most likely in the morning now with results and the levels taken today aren't really conclusive, they will call me in on Friday and Sunday and it's the difference in the levels that will give a picture of what's going on.

I am so very annoyed at husband but trying to keep calm and just pass my time. I came back to work after the appt and am due to finish at 6.

I guess until I've had confirmation it's not over.

gnat99 · 18/11/2015 16:51

Hello ladies, can I join pls? I have read all your posts and only brave enough now to add my bit.

I am 7 wks tomorrow, due on 7th July, and it's our first. Been off pill since March, but only really 'trying' since our wedding in July. Not bad going considering I am nearly 38. I saw GP 2 weeks ago and have booking in appointment next Tuesday at almost 8 wks. Scan letter came through on Fri - for Christmas Eve!

Tried to change it as we were planning to be away with ILs then, but no luck, as we are away with my family the week after and after that the dates for nuchal scan get tight. So we will probably have to come back specially on 23rd/24th (5 hours e/way on train), otherwise we miss out on the extra days with ILs we'd booked off (SiL visiting from abroad with her brood so need to be there). And we will have to tell them before the scan, otherwise they would be really confused at our comings and goings. All going well, it would be a lovely Christmas present Smile

Anyway, all this aside, I am thrilled to be pregnant but absolutely terrified of mc.... My sister & mum both had them before healthy pg. Melvali, like you my mum has coeliac disease and had several mc before diagnosis (then she had me!) so I am secretly worried that I have it too, even though tests have shown nothing. Also my DH has no job atm so not ideal really (we thought it would take longer for BFP so best crack on!).

Not telling anyone till 12 wks, so it's wonderful to have you all to share this time with. Fx for all of us, especially you Melvali - keep us posted please.

Sorry for such a long hello! Will post my stats on other thread.

Hi gnat99 . Congratulations and welcome. You could consider paying for a private nuchal scan on a date you can do? Might be cheaper than the train tickets you'd have to get.

gnat99 · 18/11/2015 17:00

Thanks Sonia, I did think of that, and we are looking into it. Just seems even more expensive so far than the train tickets. Normal dating scan in my area around £99 but the only nuchal I've found is £450... perhaps I need to keep looking! Nice to have the nuchal results for the NY rather than only having the scan in Jan.

Stom91 · 18/11/2015 17:20

I pretty sure I'm 7 weeks. Haven't heard from the midwives yet so no scan date either. Don't think it'll be real until scan.
We were only try for a month! Came off the pill beginning of September pregnant beginning of October Grin
Only took 2 months wil DD1 I think I'm just lucky!?
Was told by docs I'd struggle as well!! So I'm feeling very lucky.

Just really want a scan!!!!

EllieJayJay · 18/11/2015 17:21

Keeping fivers crossed for you Mel X keep us updated. Xx

Welcome Gnat... It jumos up to £450!!! Why does it cost so much more??? I'm paying for an early scan as my MW appointment is not until I'm 9weeks... I was thinking of having another scan near Christmas (I'm 12 wks Christmas Day) if I don't get a scan before then as I would like to flash a little picture to family :) but £450 is crazy! Especially as I'm planning to do a harmony test dependant on other blood results and they are around the same price.

Bluebell thanks for the insight!!! Nice to hear what happens at these things!

gnat99 · 18/11/2015 17:28

To be honest Ellie I am still quite new to all the different types of scan, so it might be that I have got it wrong and the £450 is for some fancy one with extras Wink

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 18/11/2015 17:35

Welcomed Gnat yay I have a due date buddy. I am really hoping to get my scan during that Christmas week although Christmas Eve would be tough as its ds1s birthday.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 18/11/2015 17:35

Not sure where in the country you are gnat but ultrasound direct do nuchal scans for £189 and they seem to have a lot of locations. I'm having an early scan with them on Saturday.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 18/11/2015 17:37

Bluebell glad the appointment went ok. I have mine on Monday and I'm nervous for the bloods too. I think I know where I'm going now apparently it's in a building that I thought was a house. It's not sign posted so hopefully I don't knock on some strangers door.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 18/11/2015 17:43

My booking appointment this morning was a total disaster from a bloods perspective. She just couldn't get any blood from either arm! She thought maybe I was a bit too dehydrated - not surprising given how much I was throwing up this morning! I have to go back for another go in a couple of weeks. Luckily I don't mind having it done too much.

gnat99 · 18/11/2015 17:46

Yup, it was the price for the Harmony test I was looking at! Pregnancy brain... Can get a nuchal here for £180 if we can find a good date for it. Still trying to figure out the difference between all the scans - nuchal/NIPT/Harmony, etc. So complicated!

gnat99 · 18/11/2015 17:47

Thanks YouAndMe for the info Smile

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 18/11/2015 17:49

I forgot to ask is anyone exercising? I was really proud of myself today as I managed to do my good old Davina Exercise dvd. However, I felt pulling in my uterus area and now I can feel where I've worked out. You know that aching abs feeling but lower down. I will stop ab work at 12 weeks as I think that's recommended. I don't know if aerobics is too full on so I may have to search for a ante natal swim class. I just want to try & stay as healthy as possible as I'm overweight this time.

Loads of chat today! Thinking of you, Mel, keeping fingers crossed for you xx

gnat99 · 18/11/2015 17:55

Beautician, I have done a yoga class and a more vigorous exercise class in the past ten days. Made sure to tell the teacher my news discreetly at the beginning of the class, and she advised me to leave out or adapt certain bits. Funnily enough the yoga class left me with slight cramping/pulling afterwards, like you, whereas the more demanding exercise class left me feeling fine! I'm going to continue with both, but take it it easy, and add some swimming and walking.

gnat99 · 18/11/2015 17:57

ps yes Beautician, it's nice to have a due date buddy! Though we'll all be bumped around in date order once we've had scans I suppose. Good luck with your appointment on Monday

Jo6526 · 18/11/2015 18:09

Beautician I'm planning as long as j can to keep up same level of exercise body combat tonight and cycle Saturday and Sunday.

Do you think I need to tell body combat instructor this early on?

EllieJayJay · 18/11/2015 18:27

Thanks you and me that's brilliant!!! Going to fancy doctor next week for scan one, but will definetly go for this if my NHS one isn't it for Christmas! There are two places near me so that's amazing thank you xx

mel wishing you all the best for the next few days, really feel for you and remember we are all here. Don't worry about the hospital you are the patient and you shouldn't be made to feel like that. We pay our taxes and you have every right to care, especially if it its your mind at ease.

Haven't heard from the midwife about an appointment yet which is pissing me off, I want to know!! Exhausted and still ill, and I am off to teach an outdoor fitness class in the cold with a barely there voice. Sorry for the whinging vibes.

My memory is appalling today but so so jealous of the maternity wear whoever mentioned it. Can't wait to get paid and get some comfy stuff that actually fits

BergamotMouse · 18/11/2015 18:50

Beautician - I've just been for my first run in months with the plan to get and keep fit as I hear it helps with lots of symptoms. But I got a bit of spotting after so am going to go a bit easier next time. I think it's just continued implantation though as I'm still very early on (really hope it sticks!)

Booked my first doctors appointment today for Monday - what will happen at that? Do I just tell them I'm pregnant and that's that?

Jo, I was probably being overly cautious in mentioning pg to exercise teacher. As long as you're careful not to overdo it, it's probably fine to say nothing! I was told that twists weren't good, as it constricts the abdomen.

Cookies, sorry to hear you're still feeling under the weather. Hope you feel better soon.

Bergamot, at my GP appt he congratulated me, asked how I was feeling and made a note, gave me the flu jab, then checked I was on folic acid & knew about starting on vit D. (I had already been checked for chickenpox & rubella immunity when TTC). Lastly he gave me a form to hand in at the desk for a midwife app. and wished me luck. Hope yours goes well!

Last word for now ladies – I’ve been posting like crazy! Forgot to mention my symptoms:
Extremely sore boobs (first and most consistent one)
Feeling hot and cold a lot in week 5, better now.
General tiredness, achiness and crankiness
Occasional dizziness and light-headedness
Cramps and pain in groin and under belly button, mainly in evening
Waking at night a lot for the loo, & sometimes not getting back to sleep.
Mild nausea most days– lots of extra salivating
Constipation and flatulence!
Thankfully no bleeding or spotting of any kind, or extra discharge .
