Well it's one better than coal...

OP posts:

itsazoohere · 28/12/2006 10:57

hi it is itsazoohere's dd can you give tips on how i can help her

Galmum · 28/12/2006 11:31

Lizzz - like the list on the whole - I'm a closet Neil Diamond fan, but I would probably put a brick through the CD player at Birdhouse in your soul - each to their own - I find it the most f**kin annoying song ever!!

What about "signed, sealed, delivered" by Steve Wonder - not sure if that's the title. It's a bit more funky and maybe it will help you focus on the end goal!!

Hattie2 - no idea on how many cups - I need to do some internet research on that. I have memory of gradually increasing the quantity every few days last time. I don't think it helps start labour, but is possibly meant to help make the contractions more efficent and hopefully a quicker labour! I read somewhere that Evening Primrose Oil can help soften the cervix. Will get on the case and let you know.

Off out soon to meet dh from work and go and have a wander round Tate Modern while I can still move!!

Lizzzombie · 28/12/2006 12:34

Wilkie - when is your due date? It sounds like you are majorly nesting! beware! Although saying that, my DP found me cleaning the kitchen at 5.30am...well it beats lying in bed feeeling sorry for myself!

Galmum - I had to put a few annoying songs on there to irritate DP, who for some reason is putting together his own CD to take in too. Hello?! Its about me! Why would I want to listen to HIS music when I am pushing out a baby????

  • I dare you to use the slides in the Tate modern!

I think I am being a wuss, but I am too scared to drink raspberry leaf tea. Suppose it really does bring on an early birth. As much as I want this baby out, I also sort of dont want it ever to come out!

Love2dance · 28/12/2006 12:56

I have missed this thread. Congrats to all those who have given birth and my sympathies to all those who are still in the waiting, aching state.

Anyone booked into Royal Free in London on 3rd Jan? I am now booked in for a Caesarean due to problems with low amniotic fluid (oligohydramnios) and breech baby so had to reluctantly wave goodbye to all plans for a natural water birth . I have to go to hospital every other day for foetal monitoring so just haven't had time to do much nesting/relaxing/mumsnetting.

It's been a real education. I was given a lot of conflicting advice at first (you may well go into premature labour/no you won't; you need complete bed rest and shouldn't do anything/you can do things and act like normal; there could be a problem with blood supply from the placenta/scan shows there isn't etc.). Some Drs were ok but some get very defensive when you ask lots of questions and seem to think they are there to make pronouncements from on high which I was supposed to just accept without question. Midwives have been much more helpful and sympathetic.

Really looking forward to meeting the little one now but am a bit anxious that he or she might not be ok (same as all of us I'm sure). Good midwife tip: In the absence of medical indication to the contrary if electing a C-Section try to get it as late as possible to reduce likelihood of baby respiratory problems. Dr said it would be better to have mine at 38-38 1/2 weeks but could not give me a specific reason why so when I went to see the midwives to book it I got them to slip me into day 1 of week 39 slot. Hope that doesn't sound irresponsible but all of baby's Doppler scores re heartbeat are fine and s/he is moving well.

Good luck to those still waiting.

PS have drafted a C-Section birth plan. Anyone else tried to use one?

RGee · 28/12/2006 15:25

Congrats to Oonagh, Coffee and Saltcod

Loved the CD play list Lizz. I've started to put one together, but can't quite get past the following:

Baby Love - The Supremes
Baby Baby - Amy Grant
Hey Baby - DJ Otzi
Let Me Be Your Fantasy - Baby D
Hit Me Baby One More Time - Britney
Baby I Don't Care - Transvision Vamp
Baby It's You - Beatles
My Baby Just Cares For Me - Nina Simone

Or alternatively:
Push It - Salt N Peppa.....

Lizzzombie · 28/12/2006 15:43

Push it by Salt n Pepa is a must - I am adding it now! And I havent heard Wendy James & Transvision Vamp for Donkies years..RGee - you are showing your age! Will download them both now. I am aiming for tunes which will keep me going through the hard bits. One of my mates just brought chill out music and said she was screaming for something more lively after 10 minutes!

Love2dance - try to keep positive. As long as your baby comes out healthy it doesnt matter how it gets here right? And at least you are having a while to come to terms with not having the birth you anticipated. Could have been worse if you were about to get into the birthing pool when they decided a C section was best.

Re. Heartburn: latest update. MW recommended Magnesium Trisilicate Mixture (only a £1 from the chemist!) she reckoned it was tons more effective than Gaviscon, and seeing as how Gaviscon makes no difference to me I am open to suggestions! Will let you know how I get on.

Lizzzombie · 28/12/2006 15:51

RGee - I forgot how fabulous "Baby I dont care" by Transvision Vamp is! I've just played it 3 times in a row! I'm sure the neighbours love me!

Gem13 · 28/12/2006 15:51

Just looked at this to see how the January ones are doing (I'm due tomorrow in theory) and I see that saltcod had a Chrstmas baby!

Congratulations saltcod (I bought your carseat from you!) and hello to your little boy . Sounds like a fantastic birth.

2HappyTurtleDoves · 28/12/2006 16:57

Oonagh - congratulations, love the name , I remember the morphine itch too - really weird!
itsazoohere's dd - it's really lovely of you to ask something like that. I can't see your mum's name on EPM's due list - when is she due? From your question, is it December? In which case she'll be feeling just huge and permanently uncomfortable, and sympathy goes a long way! How old are you? Can you help out in the kitchen, or give back massages? Otherwise, the thing that'll help her most is the baby coming, and sadly none of us can make that happen, much as we'd love to!!
RGee - PMSL at your list! Push it! Ha ha! But how come my baby seems to have such bad taste - it must have been listening to Britney Spears' Hit Me Baby One More Time by the feel of it!
Hattie - you can take capsules too, saves the taste of the tea!
Someone make me pack my hospital bag!!! Really must get off my @rse!

wilkie50 · 28/12/2006 17:18

Lizzz - I'm due 21st Jan, feeling very nesty but very confused as I keep getting twinges, BH's, upset tum - all signs according to my book but I just think it is wishful thinking. I know everyone probably feels the same but I am so desperate to have this baby. The FEAR seems to have worn off and IMPATIENCE has taken its place!!!!

Cleaned my cupboard, wrote up my calendar, miht sort out my clothes later as they are all jumbled together and in need of a good sort out!

2Happy - you are under orders to pack your bag tonight. DH and I did mine the other night and it actually ended up being lots of fun as we discussed whats/ifs/buts/whens - then I got all emotional and cried (par for the course at the mo).

Lizzzombie · 28/12/2006 17:32

Feeling smug.
Have washed all the clothes for impending baby. (even ironed some!!!!) Hah! Am guessing I wont ever be doing that again. They are all so cute. If you hold the babygrows up to your bump they dont look so small though.

Is it true that newborns have about 3 changes of clothes a day?! I'm guessing the novelty weasrs off once the little outfits get covered in sh*t & puke!

MW told me today that I am on course to have an average sized baby. When I asked - what is average sized? she said 8 - 8.5lbs was average these days.

How am I ever going to walk again?!

Jeez I can't believe how far down the list I am!! It's really depressed me - all those babies waiting to be born before mine!

Congrats to Oonagh, hope all is well, and welcome to the world little Lucy

I've had enough now. I want this baby OUT. We went shopping today, after 3 hours I was almost in tears everything hurt so much. And people are so bloody rude! It's plainly obvious I'm heavily pg and I was using my crutches cos of the SPD but they still pushed past me all the time. And not once did anyone offer me their seat so I could have a rest between shops. That's it now, I refuse to leave the house until after baby arrives, I might even stop in bed till he comes

Oh I wish!

Loubie xx

itsazoohere · 28/12/2006 20:26

Feel need to apologise! DD1 (11) posted here -I'd fallen asleep on sofa with ill dd2. Have since eplained to her that this is for mothers and that those who post here need space and privacy from kids, but she explained that she hears enough of the gory side of pregnancy from me and had no desire to read anyone elses problems! Am actually quite proud of her, it was a sweet gesture. But sorry if she encraoched on anyone's privacy, it was only well intentioned.
itsazoohere, 36+2.

itsazoohere · 28/12/2006 20:29

And thanks 2HappyTurtleDoves-will pass on your advice!

Harry2007 · 28/12/2006 22:18

Add me to the list Elliep - edd 28/01/06 but will probably have CS in next 2 weeks - it's a boy by the way.

Congrats to the new Mums!!!

TinsellyRhino · 28/12/2006 22:23

does anyone else feel like there are too huge and can't move and get off the sofa properly
I am beginning to get sick of being pg. my MS has returned so we are back to retching in the morning mostly but other times too (most delightful)

I think I have babied my 20 month old too much and now she seems like a duracell bunny on speed but also needs mummy ALOT for cuddles. carrying her is starting to be too much, she's a flight risk outsiode of the house, I can't run after her so got a funny look of an old woman when I had her sueezed between my legs whilst I tried to put the shopping down so I could lift her into her chair. I canm't gert comfy to sleep, have to pee at least 2 times a night and dd2 is still waking up in the night. moan moan whinge
sorry but I feel slightly better now
Thanks fro listening

Hope everyone else is coping

Dragonhart · 28/12/2006 22:33

I think it was really sweet of her itsazoo. Think it would prob be nice to have an older girl to help as I only have a 17month old boy who does not get the idea that throwing a tantrum every time he needs a nappy change and thrashing his head about so I can bearly hold him does not help when I am 38 weeks preg!

Congratulations to coffebaubles, oonahboona and saltclod. Hope you are all recovering well. xxx Makes me feel quite nervous!

Galum- I think you must be so strong too, it must have been very hard for you both. xxx

Ellipip, so you might still be my section twin then! I am pretty nerovus about it, had my bloods taken today and realised that only a week to go now! Suddenly realised that I have so much to do and so little time to do it!

Hope everyone had a good christmas. Ours was a bit quiet but I did have a good time. Went to my uncles so didnt have to worry about dinner . DS was really good though and ran around entertaining everyone (he is the first of a new generation so no other children there). He ate his christmas dinner and promptly fell asleep in his high chair for 20mins then woke up demanding his pudding!

Sorry to all those feeling so miserable about being preg still. Hope that you all get lucky soon!!

BTW Lizz, is it really bad if I use the same nursing bras from last time? Theyare cotton you see so dont know if they would have stretched? Have been wearing the same maternity bras as I was measured to be the same size, but would just rather not have to fork out on a load more bras if I dont have to. Sorry to tap you for info when you have stopped work!

Dragonhart · 28/12/2006 22:37

Trinity, sympathies on the dd troubles. DS has suddenly got quite clingy too. Normally he squirms out of a hug imediately, but he has been letting me hug and kiss him loads.

DH say I should make the most of it but getting quite worried about how he will react when the baby comes.

We have got him a thomas train set from the 'baby' and some little toys for him to give the baby, but dont really think he will understand.

Any of you third time + mums have any advice?

itsazoohere · 28/12/2006 22:46

Am a 3rd time mum-but don't feel qualified to offer any advice. Due to big age gap-dd1 11.5, dd2 6.5 feel slightly overwhelmed at thought of tiny baby full time-will I remember what to do? Am used to them being reasonably independant, not sure how am going to cope. Feel suddenly far too young and irresponsible to be a mum of three. Hope it's just hormones!

TinsellyRhino · 28/12/2006 22:49

ooo itazoohere, I totally know where your coming from, I feel completely not mature enough to be having my third

itsazoohere · 28/12/2006 22:59

A baby and divorce in the space of a year just makes me feel even more immature. Suddenly convinced I've just been 'playing house' (badly) for last 11 yrs-and maybe if had been given wendy house+baby annabel equivalent when small things would have been very different!

Shimmer · 29/12/2006 00:23

Hi all. I've had to let DP choose a couple of songs on my birthing selection on my ipod - otherwise he's threatening to bring his new PSP into the hospital!
I bet he will anyway...

This is going to be a bit of a moany post i'm afraid as I had a really fustrating visit with m/w this afternoon. I'm 38wks now and like you said earlier Lizzombie I was hoping to hear something really exciting and positive today about it being 'nearly time now' and 'not long to go'... but i pretty much got the opposite! M/W was obviously really surprised that I hadn't felt any BH and spent most of the time telling me that I should be prepared to wait at least another 3 or even 4 weeks!!!! I thought afterwards though that she didn't measure me at all, so we really have no idea what sort of size the baby is already, or why I should be waiting that long! Although the GP told me 2 wks ago that babes was 2/5 engaged apparently he's now only 1/5! He's not only not coming soon, he's going in the wrong direction!!!!
She also casually mentioned that babes is in the back-to-back posterior position, which I hadn't been told before. My cousin's baby was posterior and she ended up having an emergency c/s after over 24 hrs of labour because he just couldn't come out that way round, so i'm really worried about that now! M/W didn't seem to think it was a problem though and said I should be fine because i had such wide hips!!! (Really! I didn't think it was possible for me to feel any fatter than I already feel!)

I guess there's still time for babes to turn though...i'll be trying to spend as much time as possible in the next coupld of weeks on all fours! Any stories of "normal", natural births of posterior babies would be appreciated....

I'm hoping that it's just late and i'm tired, which is causing all the ! I'll try and think positive thoughts and
post something happy tomorrow!

On the raspberry leaf tea - I have been drinking it (when i remember) for a couple of weeks now. My box says 2-3 cups a day in the last few weeks though, so will try and step it up a bit now!

2HappyTurtleDoves · 29/12/2006 09:06

Shimmer - ds was posterior, and though he wasn't a "normal" delivery, he wasn't a caesarean, and I dare say if he hadn't have been coming superman as well, he may not even have been forceps. I think the advice, apart from trying to get the baby in the right position before it engages, is if it engages posterior, when you go into labour to adopt the poses to encourage baby to turn. Most people find their body automatically tells them what position to get into, but here's some info (scroll to the end) on suggested positions. Also here's a whole thread on posterior labours (not that I'm obsessing about what position this baby will be in, lol!)

TinsellyRhino · 29/12/2006 09:09

shimmer I only learnt this yesterday but 1/5 is better then 2/5

We all asumme that it's how far IN the pelvis the head is but what the 1 or the 2 means is howmuch is still OUT of the pelvis so 1/5 means there is very little still out, it's going the right way and doing well
