My sister told me about an iOS app yesterday that lets you listen to and record your baby's heartbeat. It's called MyBabyBeat and it's £3.99 but it's fab!

Southy84 · 30/11/2015 09:32

pikz wow 18 weeks, that seems crazy, I'm 16 weeks today and that seems mad considering it only seems like yesterday we all joined this thread!

vicky so glad you and baby are ok, how scary for you. And not nice to have to wait that long! I'm not sure about the heartbeat thing- my friend had a typical "girl" heartbeat and her midwife even said she'd be willing to bet £100 on it being a girl, well she ended up having a boy! I think it hit her quite hard because she really thought she was having a girl, her DM and MIL also thought she was having a girl so think there was quite a lot of pressure on her too which made it harder. Don't get me wrong i will obviously find out what my baby's heartbeat means and not believe it Grin or not hehe.

I saw that app advertised nicky do you have it? I was a bit sceptical about how a phone could do that so interested to hear about what it's like.

VickyHW · 30/11/2015 10:09

Thanks Southy - I'm going to try and not go in out of hours again if I can help it! I was there so long one woman came in in labour, was sent home as her contractions weren't close enough, and came back again about to give birth before I left!

We've got our private scan booked in for the weekend and I'm just so impatient so looked up all the old wives tales (heartbeat = girl, Chinese month predictor thingy = girl, wedding ring trick = boy!) - really just to see if they're true once we do find out!

I think that baby heartbeats app only works later on in pregnancy, not sure if it would be any good for us yet.

frozensmoothie · 30/11/2015 10:54

Glad to hear everything's ok Vicky that must have been very scary and I'm sure the long wait didn't help either!

I am really impatient to find out the sex too! Exciting that you have a private scan booked for the weekend, not long to go now.

I'd be interested to know if the heart beat apps work too. I have been debating getting a doppler which I know is a controversial topic! Because she didn't listen to the heartbeat at the 16 week appointment I've had not reassurance that everything is ok since the dating scan which was over a month ago now Sad

I'm 18+1 and my nausea seems to have returned over the past couple of days. Hope it's only a temporary thing. I'm also wondering if my new bras are already feeling a bit tight, and I'm already in a 36F. I'm hoping they don't grow any bigger Hmm

Southy84 · 30/11/2015 11:06

Oh blimey vicky! I would have found that really surreal seeing someone is labour whilst being pregnant myself, I probably would have cried knowing me! I have everything crossed things will settle down for you now. Oh exciting for your scan! I can't wait to hear what you are having :) (if you want to say of course)

Sorry to hear about the nausea returning frozen that's not nice. Although I'm interested in the app I'm too scared to purchase that or a Doppler. Are you wearing wire free/maternity bras? I got proper maternity ones and I haven't felt this happy and comfy in months! Best purchase ever :) definitely invest in some new ones if your uncomfortable. I hope I get to hear baby's heartbeat this Thursday, my mums coming with me and she's very excited so I hope they find it.

frozensmoothie · 30/11/2015 11:15

I'm wearing the wire free maternity bras (which is such a relief after underwire ones!) I think they're ok during the day but in the evenings when I massively bloat up after dinner I have to undo them Blush

I hope your appointment goes well on Thursday Southy and you get to hear the heartbeat. She didn't try and find mine or even mention it! I think she just wanted me in and out as soon as possible. It sounds like most people on here got to hear it at the 16 week appointment so hopefully you will too and my experience was just a one off!

VickyHW · 30/11/2015 11:30

Thanks Frozen, and Southy it was actually quite nice seeing people coming in, no one seemed that phased, only heard a little bit of screaming from delivery! Being in triage was nice too (apart from why I was there obviously) because everyone else in there had monitors on so you could just hear all these different heartbeats, it was quite relaxing!

Also when I was waiting I was having a chat with some women who told me about front and back waters - I didn't know we had two waters that could break!

Hope your nausea gets better frozen!

I couldn't face buying bras this weekend because town was heaving with people, next time I have a weekday appointment I'm going to sneak off and buy some, definitely want something non-wired if only for at home!

Nicky333 · 30/11/2015 11:37

Yes, Southy and others, I have the app and it works fine. I'll try to put a link to my little recording on the FB group if I can manage it, at lunchtime or this evening.

They all say that they don't work until later in the pregnancy but that's to cover themselves as I can hear my baby's heart fine. It's a bit tricky to find it as it's using the microphone on the bottom of the phone, which isn't a massive area but once you've found it once, it's then easier to find it again.

My sister said that once you start feeling proper movements, to rely on the movements rather than the heartbeat but it's nice to hear and she listened to it all the way through. Said she'd spend ten times the amount - best £3.99 she's ever spent!

ODog · 30/11/2015 12:25

Glad all ok vicky. Must have been a bit scary.

Hope everyone had nice weekends. We took DS for a bike ride on Saturday and I went shopping with my mum on Oxford St yesterday which was manic but we got most of the Xmas shopping done and I had finished DS's last week so feeling organised now. I need to be though as we are off skiing for 2 weeks over Xmas so need to exchange presents early.

Any other second timers feeling smaller than last time? Everyone says you are meant to be bigger but in defo not. Still not felt any definite movements either. A few pokes and flutters but they could be anything and just being more aware of what's going on. Still I think I worried more once I had movements last time.

GunShotResidue · 30/11/2015 12:51

Glad all is well vicky

I started getting worse nausea from 14 weeks, which annoyed me! It's not terrible, but I dont feel like eating much. I was given lots of chocolate for my birthday, as I'm usually a chocoholic, but I've gone off it a tiny bit. Loving melon though.

I was smaller than last time until about 14 weeks, when a bump kind of popped out! Just ordered some maternity jeans and a few more dresses as my normal jeans are very uncomfortable now.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 30/11/2015 12:52

Hi all! Sounds scary vicky but glad everything was ok.
So interesting about the heartbeat app! I have been joking with DP about how one day you'll have an ultrasound app on your phone and just look at the baby any time you like...this is halfway there i guess!
Hope you all had good weekends - I went to pregnancy yoga with teacher I hadn't been to before which was super interesting! We had to pair up with someone else for quite a few exercises and my partner was 40 weeks and felt that the baby had gone super low and was coming any day...and she still could do the squats etc more easily than me!!
At the end of the class there was a blessing for our babies and i started to cry and could not stop...to the point of desperately trying to keep the noise inside but not managing...I was a snivelling wreck!! Might not be so embarrassing if I didn't work at the studio!
Amazing experience though being with 35-40 other women at various stages of pregnancy, hard not to be emotional thinking of all of those babies!!

frozensmoothie · 30/11/2015 13:22

Can't an ultrasound phone app would be amazing! If only it had already been invented. Your pregnancy yoga class sounds great. I've cancelled my gym membership from end of December so was hoping to replace it with a pregnancy yoga class. Must start investigating!

I have a windows phone and there are no apps for heart rate monitoring. I might look into getting a doppler but not sure if it would make me more anxious if I couldn't find the heart beat.

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 30/11/2015 15:11

Ahh Cant - sounds like your yoga class was really lovely, even the crying at the blessing. I'm sure you weren't the only one to be overcome with emotion.

Ooh someone told me about the app over the weekend - quite tempted to give it a go. I keep trying to 'feel' baby's heartbeat but not had much luck with that - lol.

All things well my end, definitely feeling the benefits of being in second trimester although have felt nauseous in the mornings the last couple of days but in a different way to when I was sick. Think this nausea is more to do with having NOT eaten so making sure I'm having a hearty breakfast each morning. Even went all hobbit this morning and had a second breakfast once I got to work!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 30/11/2015 21:49

I'm about a month behind.. Oops sorry Blush I'll be catching up on the thread ASAP.
I find Facebook so much easier I'm useless at MN Blush

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 01/12/2015 09:37

Don't worry Icant - I'm the same!!

VickyHW · 01/12/2015 10:42

Thanks can't Gun & Odog!

Someone offered me a seat on the bus this morning without me staring at them and rubbing my tummy, pregnancy achievement unlocked!

AND I finally got a phone call from the mental health team, hooray! Bad news is they're coming round to do a home visit on Thursday so I have to do loads of tidying tonight so they don't think I live in a hovel.

can't you've reminded me I need to phone up the place near me that does preggo yoga and see if they've got a space for me yet - your class sounds lovely!

Pikz · 01/12/2015 11:02

Vicky glad to hear you are ok

Frozen I am 18+2 and the nausea definitely returned this morning... Growth spurt? How you feeling now?

Odog I am definitely much larger this time around.. I look huge for 18 weeks

frozensmoothie · 01/12/2015 14:27

I wonder if it was the start of a growth spurt Pikz. The nausea was there Sunday and yesterday but luckily has disappeared today. Hope yours goes soon too!

I just felt my first proper flutter Grin

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 01/12/2015 20:34

frozen SO exciting! Still waiting for my first flutter!
Have made myself feel nauseous today by overdoing things physically - first I was running around a bit and carrying things at work, then carried heavy shopping home, both of which made me feel sick :(
Silly me I should have known better!!

Meevsa · 01/12/2015 22:14

Hi everyone. I am pregnant with baby number 4 and have never been part of one of these groups before so I'm hoping to share the excitement with everyone (no one seems as excited when you're having number 4 haha!). I'm in Leeds and I'm due May 30th

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 01/12/2015 22:56

By the way...anyone else suffering with an unsupportive DP? Mine seems to sometimes be amazing and wanting to take care of me but the rest of the time expects far too much from me and then yells at me for being lazy (when in reality I still do WAY MORE than him)!! Keep feeling really worried and fed up about it as have visions of terrible rows once the baby is here and essentially being chained to the kitchen sink while he tells me I'm a lazy arse..
Pregnancy hormones talking?!

PinkBubbles1 · 01/12/2015 23:02

Hi everyone, I'm so sorry I haven't been on here for about 4 weeks, just been so ridiculously busy. Is there room for one more on the fb group? I think I will manage to keep up in there so much easier. I totally understand if you'd rather not add me just yet as I haven't been on here for some time.

Just wondered is anyone not getting a 16 week app?

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 01/12/2015 23:05

Welcome meevsa :)
cantbelieve I'm in the same boat - he's been a rock when I've been in hospital looking after DS but since home he's either at work, sleeping or on the playstation which is causing arguments. Hormones don't help! He's been uoastairs sleeping since 6om.
Having a procedure done Friday as I need biopsies taking and he hasn't even taken the day off work Blush.
I don't think the men realise at times? I'm considering just writing a letter and getting it all down!

PinkBubbles1 · 01/12/2015 23:06

Meevsa, totally agree! I'm due with number 6, ppl just don't react the same!! 😀Which Is part of the reason why I am struggling to keep up to date on here.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 01/12/2015 23:06

X-posted pink, this is first time I've been back for about a month I find it easier on the Facebook group! Sure you can be added no problem:
