Great news Southy so glad its come back as low risk. What a relief!

I can relate to the scans feeling like a pre-recorded video too. I still can't believe there's a baby in there.

My 20 week scan is on 15th Dec. We will be finding out the sex. I'm still convinced it's a boy although lots of people with girls are saying they were convinced they were boys too!

GunShotResidue · 26/11/2015 15:47

I might have already said this, but I knew DD was a girl, I wouldn't even consider she might be a boy. This time I'm thinking boy, but I'm not as certain. DH thinks I'm just saying I'm not sure incase I'm wrong! I read somewhere that mothers instinct is right 75% of the time.

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 26/11/2015 15:48

Oh Southy that is so lovely having a Christmas eve 20 week scan!

Looks like a few of us are 20 weeking on the 5th Jan. We will be finding out what we're having, cannot WAIT! We've decided to try and keep it to ourselves though as my DM was really sad that we aren't leaving it as a surprise Hmm (mothers)!

So hungry today. Just devoured a huge sharer packet of cheese savouries!

fizzydrink1807 · 26/11/2015 16:02

My 20 week scan isn't until 11th Jan, but I have booked a private scan on the 19th dec as I really want to find out!
Planning on hitting the sales on boxing day so that we can stock up on baby clothes

Nicky333 · 26/11/2015 16:21

There's going to be lots of news on the 5th!

Has nobody got any opinion about the initials I mentioned at the end of the last page?

ODog · 26/11/2015 17:00

Totally agree with bish that the pressure to BF makes people feel guilty. This might be controversial but I suspect that guilt might be part of the reason so many people say they couldn't BF rather than admit it wasn't for them, which is totally fine and shouldn't be stigmatised. That, and very poor advice around babies that feed frequently. I had a very frequent constant feeder and if I had listened to a lot of people I might have believed he was constantly hungry because I couldn't produce enough milk for him. The fact he put on weight rather than lose as most babies do at the 5 day check shut everyone up! Truth is, it's totally normal and right for newborn to constantly suckle to stimulate milk, for comfort, because those tummies are minuscule etc the list goes on. I was a victim of poor advice (formula will make him sleep) and led me to stopping at 5mo before I or he was ready. Of course, there are a small minority than genuinely can't for a number of reasons, but it must be a smaller number than we are led to believe or the human race wouldn't have continued in the pre-formula days.

Please don't think I'm starting a BF vs ff row - I'm really comfortable with both and would never rule out ff if that's what worked best for our family at any point. Appreciate this might be controversial though so I might run for cover now!

ODog · 26/11/2015 17:01

Also congrats on getting a low risk result southy. I had a strong feeling you would and hope it gives you the piece of mind you are after.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 26/11/2015 19:00

I think when it comes to bf or not everyone has to work out what works for them and not worry what anyone else says or thinks (easier said than done!). My sister was a mad advocate and became a bf peer counsellor and had this lovely chart as to the benefits even if you manage one day of bf...one day! I suppose that could be used to make mums feel guilty if they didn't do that but I read it as a ringing endorsement of do what you can and it will all help. A strung-out stressed mumma won't be good for the baby if that's what attempting to bf leads to anyway, right?

GunShotResidue · 26/11/2015 19:18

cant that's what I think, what's best for mum is usually best for baby. Same with the SAHM/WOHM debate, if you're not happy being at home then going back to work is probably what's best for the family. I think it's awful that people feel they have to justify their choice to anyone other than their family, similar to what ODog said about saying they couldn't BF rather than they didn't want to.

Southy84 · 26/11/2015 22:21

Fingers crossed I will feel the baby at 20 weeks gunshot not too long to wait if that's the case :)

I quite like the initials m.a.d nicky it's quirky.
I'm excited to hear what you are all having for those who are finding out, and for those with a strong feeling, I'm intrigued as to whether you are right :) I'm convinced I'm having a boy. Your dh sounds lovely vicky and I don't think it matters having two scans close together at all! Enjoy them :)

I've enjoyed reading everyone's bf experiences, thank you all for sharing. It's nice to hear everyone's honesty that it's not always easy and don't think you're controversial at all odog I certainly won't stress myself out if it doesn't work for me, in my head I'm thinking I just want to give it a good go. I've seen a couple of close friends with postnatal depression and trying to bf has almost pushed them over the edge, so it's definitely about what's best for mum and baby, so agree there :)

Thank you frozen you must be one of the first of our 20 week scans, so exciting!

Hope I haven't missed anyone, sorry I haven't named everyone I'm on my phone and it is on a frantic one tonight scrolling through Things at 90mph! Hope everyones having a nice evening x

notsoold · 26/11/2015 22:38

Keeping quiet here but my scan os on the 6th the day after all the newsGrin.

We will do both. I never managed to solely bf my kiddies but one. But combining worked for us.

Xxxxx

fizzydrink1807 · 27/11/2015 08:50

At my booking in appointment the midwife asked if i had bf with my dd. I told her i had done about a week but it was so painful for me and I was exhausted so we ff. The midwife basically said sometimes you have to think of the mother at times like this, cos its no good trying to bf if you can't cope. She basically said you are well-educated enough to make your own choice. I think I am lucky with my midwife as some can really try and force it on to you

Nicky333 · 27/11/2015 10:01

Thanks Southy.

I also think it's interesting reading about all the bf stuff, although I'm on the sidelines there as I definitely won't be able to.

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 27/11/2015 11:14

Hi ladies! Sorry I've been so absent on this thread lately, but have been keeping up with the odd bit of news on FB.

Great news on your low risk Southy - sounds like things are starting to settle down for you now! Exciting!

Nicky - I think MAD initials are quite cool! We're so up in the air with names that we haven't even thought about initials but our surname is H so I don't think there's many three lettered words we could create... I could be wrong though!

Anybody else found their name choices are being influenced by things you're currently into? DH and I are currently obsessed with Masterchef: The Professionals (we're watching it religiously at the moment!) and as a result, DH really loves the name Marcus. I'm a bit on the fence about Marcus but it's unusual for DH to feel so strongly about anything!

I had my 16 week appointment yesterday (although, I'm only 15 weeks today!) and heard baby's heartbeat! So so amazing. I feel like time is really flying by now.

Nicky333 · 27/11/2015 12:31

You could go for BAH or maybe MEH Grin

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 27/11/2015 13:09

Ha ha ha Nicky, MEH! Lol. If we go for Marcus, it could indeed be MEH! Marcus Edward? Best not point that out to DH as I think he'd be even more keen!

Nicky333 · 27/11/2015 16:11

Love it!

Mamama31 · 27/11/2015 18:05

Hi ladies, sorry I have been awol have been quite busy with work and have had a bit of anxiety just as to whether everything is ok with bump as 12 week scan was at 10+5 so seems a long time without seeing a scan of baby! But we have booked a private scan it's on Tuesday and we might be able to find out what we are having!!! 20 week scan is 30th December also.

My boobs have gone from 34b to 34d but my right is def a lot bigger than my left looks so odd!!! Love having a bit extra though!

Southy and Vicky glad to hear of your good news I'm sure you are so relieved!

I do have a bump now but keep thinking is it just fat but it is def a bump! Lol!

Think I've felt a few tummy flutters but then I think is it all in my head?!

Still feel exhausted by tea time and some nausea in the evenings too waiting for the energy burst hoping to feel wonderful by Christmas!!

Hope everyone else is doing ok, looking forward to all the 20 week scans Smile

Southy84 · 27/11/2015 18:12

Thanks toffee :) I quite like Marcus- I don't know anyone with that name. And also like MEH hehe

Southy84 · 27/11/2015 18:17

Sorry crossed post mama I'm always doing that! Good to hear from you and thank you :) I know what you mean about feeling anxious but that's great news you have a private scan booked, hope you get to find out what you are having :) I hope I get an energy burst soon and get rid of my acne soon too!

GunShotResidue · 27/11/2015 23:47

I'd like some energy burst too please!

Toffee we're influence by things we're into. We just finished The Originals and DH likes the name Elijah. It's grown on me, but if we use it we probably won't tell my very old fashioned dad that we've named his grandson after a fictional vampire!

I quite like MAD too. The middle name I like for a boy makes EGG (although our surname is double barrelled so technically EGG-R) which I think is a little cruel!

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 28/11/2015 09:53

Yeah where is this energy boost?? The app I have been using proclaimed to me this morning "17 weeks - your energy will now be at it's peak!" - waiting for the return of my libido too....Hmm

Southy84 · 28/11/2015 17:21

I feel like I will never experience a energy burst ever again... Oh and guess what? I just bought myself some new hats.. I mean bras Shock 34F totally ridiculous! They cannot grow anymore they are out of control!!

Hope everyone's having a nice weekend :)

Pikz · 29/11/2015 20:45

Can't- that proper made me laugh, I read that a week or so ago and was like if this is the best in going to do god help me!

I've just gone into a 34g ( was 32e/f) so in my feeding bras from DS. God help me by the end. Hit 18 weeks today. Not long til we know pink or blue

VickyHW · 30/11/2015 00:32

I had a bit of a bleed and went up to maternity triage tonight. Four and a half hours (!) later all is well. Probably my cervical erosion playing up again. Or my placenta moving about because apparently they do that around now according to the doctor.

I did just check my notes and while I heard the heartbeat at my 16 week midwife appointment, it wasn't counted - this time it was and the heartbeat was 140bpm. Does anyone have any faith in the gender predictions based on heartbeats?! Apparently this means girl :D

Hope everyone else has had a nice weekend!
