Hi ladies! Getting very exciting with the 16 week appointments coming up, mines next Tuesday and just wanting it to come now. Also have my 20 week scan date on 29th Dec, which will be something really nice to look forward to post Christmas all being well.

I need to get re measured for bras too. I breastfed dd upto 9 months and for about a year afterwards they were quite saggy and 'empty' but had since gone back to normal I think. It just takes time. Like odog it's the hardest thing I've ever done, but probably one of the best too. I really missed it when I stopped.

Southy84 · 25/11/2015 23:06

Thank you for giving your experiences odog and disco I so want to give it a proper go and hope it works out well (I know a few people who either couldn't or didn't want to put the effort in - their words not mine) I'm also now feeling spurred on to get properly measured for a maternity bra now too, maybe I will brave it this weekend.

My 20 week scan is on the 29th too disco :) I was so pleased to get it before the new year! When's everyone else's 20 week scans?

ODog · 26/11/2015 07:07

Mine is on 18th and I think we have decided to find out sex this time. DS was a surprise but I don't think it added anything to the experience by not knowing he could have been a goat by that point and I'd have been happy he was out and I'd like to be able to do it both ways. Although I'm genuinely not fussed either way I keep thinking/imagining it as a girl.

Southy84 · 26/11/2015 08:26

Oh lovely odog you get a pre christmas scan- how exciting! I thought Id never be tempted to find out but I have had a couple of wobbles! I know deep down I want a surprise, and luckily so does dh so we will definitely stick to not finding out, I love the idea of dh telling me what we've had (although I know in reality it probably won't be like that)

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 26/11/2015 08:30

My 20 week scan is on 29th dec too! Was originally on 21st but had to reschedule thanks to the flight schedule to get to DP's family for Christmas (which we WON'T talk about as it makes me cry whenever I remember we have to go!!). Will definitely be something to look forward to after a week with the outlaws ignoring me because I'm not fluent in French...

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 26/11/2015 08:34

Just popping to join the bra and breast feeding convo... I lost loads of weight post-DS (due to bf-ing and gall bladder issues) so I am now jsut growing into my pre-DS bras. During pregnancy with him I went up til an F, and the engorgement days were horrific (no bra fitted, and only the biggest shirts DH has could be closed). Then I bfed for a year, dropping til 1 bedtime feed by 9 months. I only stopped because my milk went when I got pregnant spontaneously and DS was very unimpressed... That pregnancy didn't work out, but we'd left bf-ing behind by then, which is just as well, as my clinic would treat me while still feeding, DS was IVF and this is a frostie left over from his round. Meanwhile my boobs slowly but surely deflated, and ended up a good cup smaller than pre-DS. But they are growing again and I need to sort my bigger bras to work out which is are actually comfortable.

I wouldn't invest in pregnancy bras, but go straight to feeding ones, if you intend to bf. They are just as comfortable and can be used for longer. Even if you outgrow them during pregnancy, the chances are you'll shrink back into them at some point...

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 26/11/2015 08:36

In addition, I am very happy to chat bf-ing challenges when people feel like it. I had a wonderful experience in the end, but did end up hospitalised with mastitis at 10 days not recommended. Also DS had reflux and we only got into a happy groove when he was dosed up on meds. Then it was wonderful and I even managed to keep my supply up during my next hospital stay at 5 months, emergency gall bladder removal plus some nasty complications.

Discofairypants · 26/11/2015 08:42

Ooooh lots of us on the 29th so exciting!! I don't think we will find out, albeit I have been tempted. We had a surprise with DD and it was really amazing and, for us, really added to the excitement and announcement to every one once she had arrived! Best thing ever, I have to say! This time though I would like to be more prepared but I know if I find out, I'll regret it instantly too.

I remember when my milk came in and boobs were humongous. I couldn't bare for anything to be near them so I ended up going to Mothercare bra less (with a top on obvs!) to get fitted .... I must've looked a right state but didn't give two hoots at the time hehe! Albeit the size of your boobs when milk comes in is not a true reflection of the size they will be whilst feeding, they settle down as the weeks/months go by.

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 26/11/2015 08:48

Ours is on the 28th and we're finding out. We did with DS and it made a lot of difference in realising we were having a baby after 4 years and infertility hell. Also we had no boy's names at the time, so it was helpful in that respect too. I found the surprise of a very small person coming out plenty for me. It really didn't matter whether it was a girl or boy, it was just mind blowing that all along I'd apparently grown a human being....

Southy84 · 26/11/2015 10:11

The 29th is a popular day! Oh no cant you'll have to focus on the scan date to get you through the week, hopefully it won't be too bad, I won't say anymore but big hug.

Oh blimey lemon you sound like you've had such a journey, I didn't go through ivf but had just been referred for it literally the week before we got our bfp. Thanks for the advice too, will definitely try and get nursing bras straight away. Also what a great way of thinking about finding out the sex, it's so true that it's amazing enough to be growing a human inside of us! I still don't quite believe it, I never thought it would happen and now it is I still don't feel like it's real! Even when ive had scans I keep thinking that the are humouring me and it's not actually a live scan of me- but a video of someone else being played (I know I sound weird). Maybe I will believe it more when I can feel the baby move.

disco I really wanted the harmony test to tell us what we're having, but totally bit my tongue when she asked if we did, and said no. Just got to hope they definitely didn't ask for the gender confirmation as the report will be emailed to me so I won't be able to unsee it!

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 26/11/2015 10:18

southy I TOTALLY agree with you, felt like the scan could have been a pre-recorded video, I cannot believe I am 17 weeks today and apparently have a 13cm long baby in my massive tummy, DP says if we find out what we are having it will feel more real but I'm definitely wanting a surprise! And I was nervous about the harmony results accidentally revealing it too - they told us results verbally but gave us a printed paper too and I made DP read it first just in case it gave the game away!!

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 26/11/2015 10:37

Southy that sounds so familiar, re: scans not being real. Feeling movement does help with believing something is going on - at least it did last time. And huge big kicks in boring meetings at work did brighten up my day a lot. I can't wait, this time!

Sorry about the delay to your scan cant. Your in-laws sound delightful Shock at not talking to you.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 26/11/2015 10:41

loveslemon I'm being a bit unfair and hormonal so I can't help it, they don't actually ignore me but DP was in big trouble after our last visit for not translating for me so that I could be involved in what was going on, and I went into a grumpy funk because I was ovulating that week and missing my chance which made everything worse!

Southy84 · 26/11/2015 11:33

Phew thought you may think I am crazy, so glad the scan thing isn't just me! I've just had my harmony results back, bawled my eyes out as soon as I opened the email and saw a big fat low risk! I can't explain how happy I am right now, dh just admitted he has been so worried but didn't want to tell me, so he is equally as relieved :) im really going to try to stop being Mrs anxiety now!

I can't wait to feel kicks although I have been warned I may have to wait a while as I have a anterior placenta, typical hey. At what point did you feel kicks in your first pregnancies?

I'm a hormonal mess too cant and it must be hard to have conversations when you don't speak the language- if struggle too so totally understand. Hopefully this time it will be a bit easier, are you learning French at all? I did a bit at school but can't remember much

PearlyFish · 26/11/2015 11:39

Ah Southy that's brilliant, what a relief! Grin

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 26/11/2015 11:41

Aww Southy that's great news Smile

My 20 week scan is on 5th January, feels so far awayyyy! But will be a nice little pick me up after being back at work for a day!

PearlyFish · 26/11/2015 12:00

Quick thread catch up...

Skin tags - got loads on the inside of my upper arms and sides from my first pregnancy. Not sure if they are multiplying yet!

Indigestion - ugh yes! Much earlier than last time. It was so bad on Tuesday it felt like my chest was being crushed.

Breastfeeding - comedy boobs during feeding, with one much bigger than the other! I weaned really gradually and they stayed a C cup afterwards, having gone up from a B to C during pregnancy (and getting God knows how big when my milk came in!!). Initially they were a tiny bit deflated but they perked up again over time.

I second lemondrizzle's advice to get nursing bras. In my last pregnancy someone on a thread recommended these really comfy bras that you can order online. They are a bit like sports bras, supportive but very soft and stretchy, and not cup size specific which is great when they are changing size loads and if, like me, one boob gets much bigger than the other! When I get my mat clothes out I will look up the make and do a link to the website here. I will prob start wearing them later in pregnancy.

I'm 16+6 today, had 16 week appointment on Monday which was great and heard heartbeat Smile

It's all gearing up now! 20 wk scan on the 23rd December. We are doing the reverse of ODog and having a surprise this time, having found out last time round. We've picked loads of names this time (need a long shortlist as 2 SILs due just before me!), and have a reasonable number of gender neutral newborn clothes already, so we feel happy going for a surprise this time, just to try doing it differently really.

Hope everyone is doing well x

PearlyFish · 26/11/2015 12:11

Ah Tiff, the 5th jan will come quickly. And yes will be good to have something to look forward to to get you through back to work blues Smile

VickyHW · 26/11/2015 12:19

Thank you cant frozen and southy - so glad your results are low risk too!!

Just had my consultant/endocrinologist appointment, nothing of note really just reminded me to book in my next monthly blood test and booked me in for a glucose test at the end of February (seems so far away!)

Good advice on the nursing bras, I'm going to have a look at the weekend!

Southy84 · 26/11/2015 12:38

Thank you all, I'm know ive said it before but so glad I have you all to talk to.

tiff I would definitely see your 5th jan scan as a bonus, I always feel like January is a bit of a boring month which always feels a little depressing and you have something to look forward to :)

I'd definitely be interested in the bra makes pearly they sound comfy!

tiff and vicky are you going to find out what you are having (sorry can't remember if you've said)?

It will be February before you know it vicky glad your appointment went well.

Can't believe how quickly time suddenly seems to be going! It will be christmas then new year before we know it!

GunShotResidue · 26/11/2015 12:46

Glad to hear of low risk results :) has everyone had their results back now?

Our scan is the 4th of January, but they won't tell you the sex here so we've booked a private scan for the 19th of December. We're moving house in march and I feel like if I know the sex I can be prepared, decorate and get the right clothes out of storage etc

southy I had an anterior placenta with my first and felt definite movement at exactly 20 weeks.

Had my flu jab earlier. I had to walk a mile each way to get it, and my sickness seems a lot better! I'm going to have to try and go for a walk every day.

As others have said, I'm really glad I breastfed. I put a lot of pressure on myself to do it, we had some trouble in the first week as DD was a forceps delivery and apparently had a high palate, it was very painful! One memorable night when she was about 5 days old I sat and cried for ages as she was hungry but I couldn't feed her. DH bought some formula but I was scared she wouldn't latch again after using a bottle so we slowly gave it to her from a shot glass that I'd boiled for ages to sterilise. I think a lot of hormones were involved! But we got through the painful bit (with lansinoh) and I fed her for 22 months (mixed from 11 months) without any problems.

Nicky333 · 26/11/2015 12:53

My 20 week scan is also on January 5th. We'll be finding out - give us chance to think of a name if it's a boy!

Initials - I've seen a couple of people on the forum (searching through for 'initials') say that they loved having the initials MAD. What are people's thoughts here? The two names we want start with M and A and there are lots of children nowadays with the A name (it was my grandma's name and I've always loved it).

VickyHW · 26/11/2015 13:36

Southy thank you - and yes we are going to find out! Because the baby was difficult at the 12 week scan I've really wanted to see her again, we'd checked our local ultrasound place and saw they had appointments free on the 30th, ended up not booking it that day and then when we did go to book it, they were full up until December 6th. I had a complete embarrassing wailing break down about how there's no point, it's too close to my 20 week scan etc but my husband booked it anyway. So I'll be 17+3 and assuming she's not a pain again, we'll find out if my instinct is right or not!

My 20 week NHS scan is on Christmas Eve! Lovely beginning to Christmas (and gets me out of that annoying half day of work where no one does any work and you're just twiddling your thumbs til lunch!)

Bishboshbash · 26/11/2015 14:46

I am so behind on here now but will try to catch up!
I'm not planning on getting maternity bras this time until right at the end. I didn't think they were supportive enough last time, maybe I just chose rubbish ones.
On the other side of the coin I didn't bf for more than two weeks, I hated it tbh so I won't be doing it for more than a couple of days this time. So don't feel bad it if it doesn't work out for you. There's so.much pressure on woman to bf and I know so many people who have beat themselves up with the guilt of not managing it.

Our twenty week scan isn't until the 5th of Jan, feels like ages away! We are definitely finding out, I am so impatient I want to know now!!

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 26/11/2015 14:57

I totally agree with bishbosh re: the pressure women are under over bf-ing. I actually gave the feedback at the midwives that I would have liked to discuss stopping when we were struggling in the beginning.
