Note to self - do not claim to know anything about maths in a public forum Blush!

Either way that's a 99.5% chance that everything is fine. Sounds much better than the ratios to me.

Southy84 · 24/11/2015 11:00

Hi tiff ive been feeling a lot better, just tired and still suffering with acne :( it's actually getting worse! How are you? Totally go and get yourself some maternity trousers, I had to crack and get some as only about two of my trousers do up now! They are so worth it!

We were told 2 weeks max too cant, but just hoping they will be quicker.

Don't worry odog I don't know what's right/wrong and grateful for advice Smile x

VickyHW · 24/11/2015 11:15

A post on Facebook just reminded me, oh that reminded me, I got a letter changing the date of my consultant appointment the other day, and someone's written "joint diabetic clinic" on it in biro. I don't have diabetes, and I thought you didn't get tested for GD until later on (I'm 16 weeks this week) - anyone know what this entails?!

I should probably ring them because I don't know if I need to take a urine sample or do anything in particular for it, the letters are pretty brief!

ODog · 24/11/2015 11:19

I happened to be flicking through my notes the other day looking for where the mw had written in the next appt and it said somewhere that you can be tested for GD at 16-18wks and/or 28wks. Guess it depends on your risk factor.

I didn't have it last time but as far as I know you have to not eat, have a blood test, then drink a massive bottle of lucozade, wait a couple of hours and have another blood test. That might be wrong but I think that's the general gist. I would ring and check though.

VickyHW · 24/11/2015 11:25

Oh thank you - you'd think they'd put that information on the letter! I'll check with my midwife tomorrow, just rang the appointments department and they said they didn't know why I'd been referred and didn't know if I'd need to take anything, helpful!

GunShotResidue · 24/11/2015 12:07

I had the GD test last time (and will again at 24 weeks here) as my dad is type 2, ODog is right, although I seem to remember as well as fasting you can only drink tap water not bottled, or the other way round!

Here you're referred if you have a family history of diabetes or your BMI is 30+. All I had to take were my pregnancy notes but I'd also recommend a book as it's a long wait!

Has anyone got any recommendations for a supportive wireless bra? Wired don't quite fit me right at the best of times (I'm a weird shape!) but its unbearably uncomfortable at the minute!

Southy84 · 24/11/2015 12:09

Sorry I don't have any experience of gd/testing vicky, although think people get flagged for testing for various reasons, I know a friend of mine got flagged because of her bmi and had to have the test, if you have other reasons for seeing a consultant maybe they just want to check? I don't know though- that is a guess

Southy84 · 24/11/2015 12:12

I have some maternity bras on order from next gunshot and will let you know how I get on! Think they should be delivered today, it's my first attempt at buying some and I always struggle with bras too so interested if anyone else has recommendations

ODog · 24/11/2015 12:28

I found the primark maternity bras the best for breastfeeding and were also comfortable during pregnancy. I tried a few different types and primark were my faves. I think a pack or 2 are about £6 or something ridiculous. Only thing is they don't wash very well but at that price it's not a massive problem to keep replacing them.

frozensmoothie · 24/11/2015 12:28

I got these non-wired maternity bras from Debenhams and they seem to be working well so far. And they're now 20% off when I paid full price!

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 24/11/2015 13:52

Thanks for that frozen! All this bra talk is pretty relevant on a day when I have deduced that the nagging chest/rib pain right on my bra line is probs due to a too-tight bra, so once again am trying to figure out what size I actually need. I know I should get measured bur somehow I end up running from the shop empty-handed whenever I plan to do that so just did a wee Google and found this: http://lifehacker.com/know-the-sister-bra-sizes-to-quickly-find-a-bra-that-1384527738
V handy guide of how to re-size yourself which I need to get on to with a tape measure tonight!!

VickyHW · 24/11/2015 14:38

can't a long time ago I actually went to the doctors because I kept getting a pain in my ribs a few inches under my armpit...worked out it was caused by a cheapo bra. Embarrassing!

The hospital actually just called me back to change the appointment time (again!) and I asked about the diabetes clinic, it's not for any proper testing like the glucose test or anything, just need to do a wee test when I'm there and I guess they go from there. Nothing to worry about!

I also asked the midwife who rang how long it normally takes for the hospital to call back if I'm high-risk based on my quad screening, she said they normally phone back the day after the test if anything is flagged up (they get sent to Cambridge to analyse) so while I'm not going to be relieved until I get my letter, I'm glad I haven't got a call yet.

HoopoeQueen · 24/11/2015 19:23

Thanks for the bra link frozen, just ordered a selection of sizes!

GunShotResidue · 24/11/2015 20:53

cant have you seen the bra intervention threads on here? I think there's a blog that goes with them, 'better bra campaign' or similar. It has good tips on measuring from home.

I don't think primark do my size :( I'm wearing a 30HH at the minute, but might try a 32G from debenhams. I hate bra shopping.

We nearly had to have the quad tests, baby is an awkward wriggler! Everytime they got close to the right position they moved. I was in there for ages wiggling my hips and jumping around trying to get them to move!

ODog · 24/11/2015 21:22

30HH gunshot!!! Wow! That's impressive

ljjeffro · 24/11/2015 21:40

gunshot im also a 32G and its a nightmare finding a reasonably priced bra at the best of times. I know I'm growing out of my bra at the moment but I'm trying to hold out cos I don't want to buy a new one then a few weeks later shell out for more.

Southy84 · 25/11/2015 08:27

Thanks for the bra advice everyone, well my next bras came, the biggest they go up to is a E and sadly it didn't fit, just like everything I've tried to buy recently :( I have short legs so trying to buy maternity trousers that aren't a mile long is also a major issue!

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 25/11/2015 09:18

Weird/unexpected pregnancy symptom: as well as being super intolerant I am also talking to myself. A lot. Particularly in public transport when people around me baseball like idiots....
Sorry for the bra woes lovely ladies! Measured myself this morning and think I need a D cup which is a whole new territory for this B cup gal...

GunShotResidue · 25/11/2015 10:02

DD only just self weaned a few weeks ago (we've been down to one feed a night for a while), I'm hoping my bra size will shrink a little, or at least not grow this time!

I talk to myself all the time cant, it's not too bad now as I'm usually with DD, but I do keep chatting away to her even when she's asleep!

frozensmoothie · 25/11/2015 10:07

Morning everyone!

Sorry your bra's didn't fit Southy The Debenhams ones go up to a G but I'm already in an F so hope mine don't get much bigger! I think there's definitely a gap in the market for maternity bras in larger sizes that are still supportive and aren't hideously expensive!

Haha I've been muttering myself more too can't I walk to work, but find myself grumpily muttering to myself at traffic lights and when car drivers, cyclists and other pedestrians are doing stupid things. I'm finding myself getting increasingly more grumpy and intolerant about everything.

VickyHW · 25/11/2015 15:30

Just got my quad screening result and I'm considered not to be a high risk at 1:1018. It's still not the 1:33000 kinda result some people get but it's better than being higher of course. Low risk of spina bifida too.

Had my 16 week midwife appointment too this afternoon and got to hear the heartbeat! So glad she found it, had a little cry. Everything else like my blood test results were all fine too, on the cusp of high for thyroid levels so will book in my next blood test.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 25/11/2015 15:55

Yay vicky! Still officially not high risk for DS so that's great news!

frozensmoothie · 25/11/2015 18:00

Thats great news Vicky your risk is lower than mine! Lovely that you got to hear the heartbeat too. Am I only the only one who didn't get to hear the heartbeat at the 16 week appointment Sad

Southy84 · 25/11/2015 18:39

I'm getting myself down to debenhams frozen and also hoping they don't grow much more! My 16 week appointment is next Thursday so hopefully I will get to hear the heartbeat then- but who knows.

Great news about your results vicky :)

Weird question but for those who have previously breast fed, did you notice a change in them compared to pre-breastfeeding? I'm keen to breastfeed but intrigued as to whether there will be a change in size shape etc?

ODog · 25/11/2015 19:11

My boobs changed loads, they were giant whilst I was BF. Then, once I stopped, they ended up smaller than they had ever been. I went down to an A cup and they were very sad and saggy. I didn't even think you could get saggy a cups. Having said all that, I LOVED BF even though I was the hardest thing I have ever done. I sorely regretted stopping when I did (other people convinced me formula would help him sleep - it didn't). I can't wait to BF again. I don't think antenatal classes give you the true reality of BF though. Back in the day all family members right up to grandmothers would lactate pretty much from their first baby so you had 'the village' to help. In this day and age it really is all down to you. It's exhausting, relentless, a bit sore to start with and a constantly changing goal post. However, like I said, best thing I ever did and I can't wait to do it all again.
