I don't think there is a thread for the July moms yet!
I'm due on July 2nd, just 4.5wks at the mo, but feel like I've known for ages as got a positive 5 days early on an early response! No real symptoms so far just a bit of cramping and some instant extra weightHalloween Biscuit.
This is dc3 for us. Haven't made any appointments yet. Looking forward to the next 8 months!

I registered at the GP today moved 7 months ago oops! and they don't want an appointment with me until 8weeks. Is this normal? Worried that if everyone else is seen sooner I might not get 12wk scan til after Christmas (or is it always in the 12th week?) We're hosting both sides of he family this year, so would like to be able to tell them!

CultureSucksDownWords · 30/10/2015 12:52

A first appt at 8 weeks is normal I think, certainly what happened last time for me. There is a window for the 12 week scan between about 10 and 14 weeks I think, so it should be ok to fit it in around xmas, I hope!

Bluebell20 · 30/10/2015 12:54

Foobio, I went to the GP yesterday, and he gave me a midwife referral form - and yep, they won't be wanting to see me until 8 - 10 weeks! Pretty sure that's normal.

I'm the same - if it all goes well, I should have the 12 week scan before Christmas, which could make for a really nice early present :)

Hamsolo · 30/10/2015 12:55

Thanks Bluebell. I'm an old codger - 38, and this would be DC2 for me.

Lovely to see others at the same stage. Christmas could be exciting this year - I think 12 weeks falls just beforehand?

Hamsolo · 30/10/2015 12:57

Ha. Snap with everyone else who has already said that. Is it too early to blame baby brain?

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 30/10/2015 13:22

I have a midwife appointment for just before 8 weeks (7+5 I think) and a scan appointment for 18 December, which is bang on 12 weeks for me. Here you just ring the midwife line when you find out and they book it all in together.

I'm worrying now though that I've read that because of my high BMI (which is causing me massive anxiety) I should be taking a much higher dose of folic acid. My concern is that if I don't see a midwife until 8 weeks, won't that be a bit late to start the high dose? I'm seeing a doctor on Thursday for a flu Vaccination so maybe should mention it then.

CultureSucksDownWords · 30/10/2015 13:37

I also have a high BMI, and I did a bit of reading around the folic acid thing. Apparently you can't buy the higher doses of folic acid over the counter, and it's not even particularly clear its necessary. And if you eat a healthy diet you should be getting folic acid from that as well as from vitamins.

I don't think that prescribing high dose folic acid is done commonly in the UK? Could be completely wrong about that though. No-one mentioned it to me during my last pregnancy, and I was seeing a consultant.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 30/10/2015 13:46

That helps, Culture.

Tbh, I'm becoming increasingly hysterical about my BMI. It's 38, which is appalling. I'm furious with myself, and so worried about all the risks to the baby. I should stop reading about it really, because I can't change it now.

I feel like I've already failed as a mum Sad

CultureSucksDownWords · 30/10/2015 13:51

My BMI is similar, and was similar during my first pregnancy. It made literally no difference to anything and my DS is (of course) perfect and gorgeous, so far anyway. BMI is one factor amongst many many things.

SoniaShoe · 30/10/2015 14:12

hello! very excited to be finally joining an antinatal club on here again as we've been ttc for a loooong time! i got my bfp on tuesday and its been the longest 3 days of my life i can't think about anything else and time is going to drag until the scan and i can finally relax.

its good to read about cramping as i've been getting loads of that and thought it was a bad sign as i don't remember this the first time round (have a 3.5 yo).

i've added my stats to the list:

Woodsy81 · 30/10/2015 14:20

I have my booking appointment on 15th November. I was wondering about the flu jab. Should all pregnant women get it? I was going to ask the midwife at the booking appointment but didn't know if that's leaving it a bit late. Do you just get it from your GP? x

SoniaShoe · 30/10/2015 14:21

yeah i'm really hoping we squeeze our 12 week scan in the week before xmas as it would be nice to relax at xmas knowing all is ok and be able to tell people.

so far i have a docs appointment on 20 dec and my booking in appointment with the midwife is already in for 24 dec. my doc said it was rare to do the booking in appointment until the docs appointment but the midwife goes to their surgery rather than it being at the hospital - don't know if anyone else has that? i've moved areas since my last pregnancy and last time all my midwife appointments were at the hospital.

i think we're going to pay for an 8 week scan too this time just because of my age and i'm worrying about miscarriage this time so i'd like some peace of mind.

hamsolo you're not the old codger on here any more i've taken over ;)

SoniaShoe · 30/10/2015 14:22

sorry those docs appointments are in november not december!

photographerlady · 30/10/2015 14:22

foobio I think it depends on the area. Last time I was pregnant they didn't really bother til I am 8 weeks. This time they want me in for blood pressure and basic questions before they even let me register with the midwife.

CultureSucksDownWords Maybe call and ask your GP? They never brought up extra folic acid with me and my last pregnancy I was already clinically obese at 4 weeks. Had a healthy pregnancy but a long labour, some of that was due to a lazy baby that waited for induction.

SoniaShoe Welcome!

In regards to scans. I ended up booking a private scan, for my area its about £45. I am traveling abroad while I am 11-13 weeks so booked the scan for the day before we fly. Also sort of want to tell my american family over xmas :)

SoniaShoe · 30/10/2015 14:24

woodsy yes they recommend it. it might be better to make a seperate appointment for rather than wait until you see the midwife.

as far as i know there is no risk to having it early on in pregnancy but i'm not 100% on that

SoniaShoe · 30/10/2015 14:26

actually there is an article on the mumsnet home page about flu jabs in pregnancy and it recommends them even if you have just got pregnant.

i'm going to get one i think

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 30/10/2015 14:32

I'm going for mine next week.

Vikkijayne2507 · 30/10/2015 14:33

With Ds drs wouldn't give appt until I'd missed 2 periods so 8 weeks had booking in appt with midwife at 9 weeks and then they sent into to hospital and I got appt in post the next week.

All different this time as live in Portugal now.
Vikki- 29 - Portugal- 1 child - due 11th July

SoniaShoe · 30/10/2015 14:36

wow that must be a lovely place to bring up little ones vikki [just imagining you lying round the pool with the littlies in arm bands living the life]

Hamsolo · 30/10/2015 14:40

Nice to see another old codger Sonia!

I've not been to the GP yet, but have also been wondering about folic acid. My BMI is high enough to need the high dose but I haven't been able to get it anywhere... So maybe I should go sooner....
