sher you do come across as a bit anti vac though, sorry! I didn't mean to jump down your throat, it's just a personal bug bear of mine. Probably worth you knowing all manufacturers will recommend not using medication if pregnant, even if safe, as a way to protect against liability if it hasn't been specifically tested on pregnant women. I was referring more to using over the counter medication than drs prescribed medication. E.g. paracetamol. For example, when I had thrush in early pregnancy, the pharmacist wouldn't sell me canestan unless Dr had prescribed it - even though Dr would prescribe it if asked. why? Because they have to cover their back. Its the same with vaccination manufacturers.

marmitemofo · 28/10/2015 19:15

Also sher changes in policy usually result from updated medical evidence hence why you wouldnt have the flu shot 10 years ago but now are offered it. E.g. there is now evidence that flu in pregnancy can harm your baby in the long term - doesn't mean it will, but there is evidence of it. So its not as if they are vaccinating you for no reason.

Trinpy · 28/10/2015 19:25

Thanks indom. You're right, I should call my mw. One of my colleagues is heavily pregnant and not being looked after very well at work so I think its just them Confused.

Me624 · 28/10/2015 19:35

Sorry you're feeling anxious Trinpy. Your manager sounds really rude!

Tori I've been very emotional recently too. I'm not loving my pregnant body - like you, I'm not just getting belly fat but also back fat, chin fat, all sorts! I posted a while ago about needing to buy bigger knickers because I've put on hip/thigh fat ...

I know I didn't deal particularly well with the dh hospital drama as well because of all my hormones! This morning I left him on the ward for half an hour while I went off to burst into tears and phone my mum for some sympathy and support. Poor DH probably really didn't need to be worrying about me when I was supposed to be there to support him! So nice to be back at home now, he's uncomfortable but perking up a bit.

marmitemofo · 28/10/2015 19:48

Glad your DH is back home ok now me, it sounds very stressful.

I didn't realise back fat was a thing until someone mentioned it on here and I checked and found that yep, I've developed some back fat Confused how am I supposed to exercise that away? Getting ready for pregnancy yoga now and I'm massive. Oh my god. May have to take a bump pic in the morning to show you!

sher I have to apologize for being a narky bitch. Sorry Flowers not much excuse but it's been a long ass day with DD waking up at 5.30 again, and working through my lunch break so a bit sensitive/grumpy.

Off to pregnancy yoga now, hoping it chills me out a bit! There's usually a choccie biscuit at the end and I've been looking forward to it all day. I'm so sad Blush

sherazade · 28/10/2015 20:16

Marmite it's fine my love , if there's anyone that's been a bitch today it's me Flowers I've been a right cow to my dds telling them to go play in their room every time they trike to strike a conversation with me as I'm just finding everything really irritating right now!! I blame dhs bloody alarm clock going off at 5am every morning so I feel your pain . enjoy the yoga - sending you unmumsnetty hugs !

sherazade · 28/10/2015 20:17

Trike to strike ? Try to strike . I don't even know what fecking language I'm typing in half the time

IndomitabIe · 28/10/2015 21:01

Ahh, heartburn, I've been expecting you.

joy

IndomitabIe · 28/10/2015 21:13

And my Rennie stash bought in preparation has vanished. I blame DH.

MyNameIsSuz · 28/10/2015 21:27

Oh, me too Indomitable, I've stocked up on double action gaviscon, to be swigged straight from the bottle of course. Failure at work yesterday - it's worse in the morning and all the pharmacy near my office had was the sachets that you squeeze into your mouth, which for some reason make me gag the worst. led to my first proper work chunder!

Apparently it means a hairy baby, which was definitely true for ds, he had sideburns and furry shoulders!

Well it had to happen at some point. DH and I have just had our first row. Ever. It's only took us 4 years.

We're going to a party on Saturday. I said please don't get pissed cause we need to finish off the lounge this weekend. He turns round with a face like a bulldog kicking piss off a nettle because "I touched a nerve" (background... neither of us are big drinkers although when he wants to he can stick it away like a good un)

oooh it didn't half get shouty. As you can imagine I won the crying snotty mess award, he won the Oscar for best dramatic toe stub I did not nearly wet my pants laughing inside at this point...oh no

He's gone downstairs to "get a fucking grip, you nob" I'm in bed wondering whether preggo hormones also affect men.

Kissed and made up and now the baby is kicking me cause I shouted at daddy.

So tonight turned out lovely eh??

Embolio · 28/10/2015 21:31

Waaah! Think I last posted on thread #4 I can't keep up!

Had my 20 week scan yesterday - all well AND looks like I am going to have a little girl, hope I can work out what to do with her after having 2 boys Grin!

I've been pondering and pondering when to start maternity leave. Part of me wants to carry on as long as possible so as to get more time at home with the baby, but ds2 was born at 34 weeks so I feel a bit nervous about working after that (ridiculously, as no reason it should happen again). I'm also a nurse in operating theatres, so on my feet all day and have a long commute - an hours drive each way. I'd like to stop at the end of January really, hopefully use some leave before officially starting Maternity.

I can also join the 'fat all over' club. Have a sizeable bump, but most of it is fat that has been pushed upwards and outwards I think

I'll be getting the flu jab, but I always get it anyway being NHS frontline etc

Had some really sad news today as ds1's friend's mum went into labour at 27 weeks and devastatingly her daughter didn't survive. She's an acquaintance rather than a close friend but I just feel so sad for the family. Trying not to let it feed my own lurking anxiety too. Gah. Sorry to end on a depressing note Blush

IndomitabIe · 28/10/2015 21:31

Oh no Suz!

Yep, if you look closely, DS still has a hairy back!

I can't stand the texture of gaviscon. I'm much happier munching fruity rennies.

DH has chronic acid reflux and usually swigs the gaviscon (and keeps those sachets in the car). He ran out a while ago. Which is where my disappearing-Rennie suspicion comes in.

What possible mechanism could there be linking acid reflux with a hairy baby? (It bothers me that I'm evidence supporting this old wives tale!)

IndomitabIe · 28/10/2015 21:37

Lol Paper! I might threaten it!

Sorry to hear about your argument. Sounds like a good-un! I'm sure he'll come round.

Congrats Embolio! But yes, so sad about your friend.

QforCucumber · 28/10/2015 21:37

Oh no - I think we should have shares in rennies been eating them like sweets since about 6 weeks in!
Don't worry paper I had a screaming row with dp the other night - because he moved a knife while I was making a sandwich. 10 minutes later it was ok again and we shared some ice cream Smile
I threw up tonight for the first time since about 8 weeks in, the agonising pain of trapped wind made me sick, then let out the biggest stinking pump ever haha. Dp thinks I'm vile Grin
Watching our little championship football team keep Manchester United at bay at the moment - we are bloody well doing well!
toni I think it's something everyone experiences as a first timer, I'm starting to hate how I look at the minute - but remembering the end product and that it's not for long and I can go running and riding again soon is keeping me sane.
Sorry if I've missed anyone - we move so quickly on here!

MyNameIsSuz · 28/10/2015 21:42

Ahh it's plausible Indomitable! Make him go out for more. I'm not keen on gaviscon either but rennies don't touch it for me.

I always imagined the link was that... the baby was tickling me from the inside with its fuzzy little noggin. But I see now how ludicrous that is.

I think for me, it's just in my nature. I was a refluxy baby and have always had a weak stomach. Ds was also reflux king. I guess I just don't have a strong diaphragm! I'm also pretty short, so my digestive organs get squished up pretty early, again that might be my own imagination and lack of medical degree.

MyNameIsSuz · 28/10/2015 21:46

Oh, and I read on here ages ago that sherberty sweets like refreshers and love hearts are great for heartburn. I've been chowing down on them like a champ!

I have to go to London for work tomorrow and am dreading it, I've been so tired and achey this week and it's going to be a full day of walking around and polite meetings with people I've never met before. This pregnancy has turned me into a wuss, I really don't want to go!

OP posts:
IndomitabIe · 28/10/2015 21:51

Amazing! I love refreshers! I'm deffo trying that!

I understand what you mean. I'd hate to do anything out of my familiar routine at the moment. I'm sure you'll be fine though.

marmitemofo · 28/10/2015 21:57

I feel your pain suz, I properly can't be arsed with travel/going anywhere. Got a baby shower to go to in London on Saturday and really dreading the trip in and back - bout an hour 40 each way. Ugh.

I never had heartburn with DD and she was very hairy! She still has quite fine hair on her back and loads of head hair, much more than other kids her age I know. I'm pretty hairy myself so guess she unluckily inherited it from me Confused

Congrats embolio! A DD after two DSs, how exciting. That's really sad about your friends prem labour. DPs sil went into early prem labour at 30 weeks but they managed to put a stop to it and she went on till 41 weeks. It was quite scary when it happened though.

Yoga was nice, now heading home feeling relaxed. Just hope DD gives me some sleep tonight Confused

1frenchfoodie · 28/10/2015 22:00

Hi guys, just found this thread. Due early march with first (sex a mystery as would not cooperate at 20 wk scan). Also wondering when to start maternity leave. Late (38+) instinctively feels right but my commute is 2h door to door including 2x crowded tube lines so probably would be pushing it a bit.

ThePug · 28/10/2015 22:36

Heartburn! Reading this has just reminded me I woke up 3 nights ago in the middle of the night with a burning feeling in my chest and though 'oh, so this must be heartburn'. Obviously managed to fall back asleep and had forgotten all about it until reading it on the thread just now! Hope it was maybe a one off as not had it again.

I'm trying to find an antenatal yoga class but the only one near me is at exactly the same time as my NCT classes will be (which I'm starting 3rd Dec) which is so annoying. I've followed a YouTube routine the last two nights though as had two nights of waking with hip pain and a day where they hurt all day. Did the yoga routine before bed, put a memory foam topper on our mattress and made sure I slept not only with my knee on the body pillow but my foot/ankle too seems to have made it magically disappear (for now...) which is a relief.

Have had a few proper kicks now, including one in bed when reading last night which made me jump and shout out! Can't wait to be feeling them all the time.

Also, today my bump felt really tight across the top. Googled it and was surprised to see mentions of Braxton Hicks - is that what they feel like? Being my first I stupidly thought they would feel more like tightening and releasing contractions (like an unpleasant orgasm in your tummy) Blush

Congrats on the scan news. Any more coming up this week?

Sorry some of you are feeling hormonal & argumentative - you have a very good excuse and don't be afraid to remind people DHs !

ThePug · 28/10/2015 22:38

Oh, and I meant to say in case anyone is looking to pick up some clothes, Sainsburys Tu have 25% off everything instore and online until 2nd November. You can get 5 packs of vests for £4ish and 3 packs of sleepsuits for £5ish. I've heard their stuff washes & wears well so have stocked up on some sets.

Missikat · 28/10/2015 22:43

Welcome 1french! I'm with you in team who knows...although I didn't fancy finding out rather than having a naughty baby who wouldn't show their bits!

Congrats Embolio in your girl how lovely! so sad though about your friend, must be absolutely devastating.

My son also disproved the hairy-heartburn rule. I had heartburn horribly during his pregnancy and he had hardly any hair at birth. It also took til about 11 months for him to grow any (which is another reason I can't bring myself to cut it, still!).

The heartburn is back this time round with a vengeance, I also have shares in rennies, the orange ones are lovely! Although for anyone getting it bad I would recommend going to the dr and getting some antacids on prescription (for free obv) which I did in the end with DS after spending god knows how much before hand.

I'm also feeling pretty fat all round, but loving wearing tight tops to show that my tum is now definitely baby and not all flabby gut!

neh205 · 29/10/2015 00:18

Hello everyone! waves

I'm due 25th March - & pleased to find a very chatty March thread on here!

I'be got 20wk scan next Friday and can't wait to find out what we're having - I'm convinced it's a boy as I had no morning sickness!

Is anyone else in the hertfordshire or London areas?

Embolio · 29/10/2015 00:37

Thanks for all the congrats Grin would have been happy either way but am excited to be getting the girl experience haha, as this will be my third and final dc I'd say!

Thanks for the good wishes re my friend too, sorry for mentioning it on here, was just so shocked and sad. Friend has lots of good support and is as OK as can be expected I think.

DS2 has just woken himself up by doing a humongous poo, so I changed his nappy and then he was upset and wanting a drink so I trailed downstairs to get one and by the time I came back he was fast asleep, spreadeagled in our bed. Between him wriggling and DH snoring I have taken myself to the spare room for a bit of peace.
