First trimester worries and joys. Test taking, morning sickness, midwife appointments and scans. It's all happening.

Can't believe we filled up a thread already. (I'll get this deleted if someone's already created a second thread, but I didn't see one!

Hope it goes well, thinking of you , they are probably doing bloods to check hcg levels? That's what they did with me last week before I had scan x

ODog · 29/09/2015 12:06

No these are the standard booking in bloods that were arranged when I self referred. Totally unrelated, just happen to be today. Scan not until 2pm so I'll let you know how it goes. I've had no further blood loss since last night though so I feel a bit of a fraud, although I did tell them that on the phone.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 29/09/2015 12:07

Ah right sorry I didn't read properly Blush lots of women still have scans when bleeding stopped (me included) you definitely aren't a fraud :)

Southy84 · 29/09/2015 12:30

You're not a fraud odog don't think that. I hope everything goes ok x

Hi to everyone - I will catch up properly after work :)

ljjeffro · 29/09/2015 13:02

Good luck odog ive just had a phone call about a date for my booking in and 12wk scan. The midwife left a voicemail from a private number saying 'im ringing to book your appointment' and left a number for me to ring back on. There was no explanation as to who she was, where she was from and why she was phoning! I didnt realise until i phoned back!
My booking appointment is on 13th Oct. She's sending me to kings for an enhanced 12wk scan on the 9th Nov which i was worried about but it turns out im having the enhanced one just cos kings are offering it! Although i think id just rather go to good old sidcup and have the normal one which would save the train journey! I didnt get my request for an early scan so ill keep my private one for the 10th when ill be 7wks.

GizzyBoo · 29/09/2015 13:04

Good luck ODog

Called in to the surgery this morning and the mw just happened to be there with nothing to do so she took my details and arranged my booking for next week.
Dating scans are done early here (8-12 weeks) so scan could be in a couple of weeks!

Definitely no hb for me though. Due to my advanced maternal age Hmm our location and the fact this is #5 means it won't even be considered. Gutted Sad

Bit of a chat re. CUB screening. I so don't know what to do!!

Oh well, we'll see what next weeks booking brings.

PeasinPod1 · 29/09/2015 13:16

Gizzy sorry what is hb- heartbeat?

GizzyBoo · 29/09/2015 13:24

Sorry, Peas I was meaning home birth Smile

ParsnipSoup · 29/09/2015 13:36

Good luck ODog. I'll be thinking of you at 2pm.

Gizzy I'm sorry that you can't have a hb like you wanted but hopefully you'll have a nice delivery. I'm going to go against the grain here and say that as a paediatrician neither myself nor any of my colleagues that I've spoken to about it would have a hb... Maybe we're all a bunch of cowards?! There are some lovely MLUs in proper hospitals that give you comfort and medical support is so near by.

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 29/09/2015 14:03

Thinking of you in your scan right now ODog - all fingers and toes crossed x x x

ODog · 29/09/2015 14:27

Awwww thanks everyone. Just had the scan and all is well. Measuring smaller than dates which I expected as I have long cycles so 8+1 and not 8+6 with eds of 9th may. Lovely little heartbeat and no obvious reason for bleed. She thinks its old blood from implantation. Very relieved.

ODog · 29/09/2015 14:29

Edd not eds - stupid autocorrect!

Nicky333 · 29/09/2015 14:30

That's fabulous news ODog! Bet you're very pleased!

I don't understand the long cycles vs short cycles thing in relation to dates.

FluffyPersian · 29/09/2015 14:33

Really glad everything is well - Bet you were relieved! I would say you could celebrate with a glass of wine, but maybe a cup of tea and a biscuit instead? Wink

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 29/09/2015 14:36

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 29/09/2015 15:10

Excellent news Odog ! :)

PeasinPod1 · 29/09/2015 15:16

Another positive scan- great news odog!

GizzyBoo ah right, gotcha! Did you have homebirth with other DC?

Mamama31 · 29/09/2015 15:28

Odog that's fabulous news! :) I'm sure your delighted!

Peas and Toffee I'm also seeing the GP tomorrow to arrange booking in with mw- good to get the ball rolling!

Grapefruit8 · 29/09/2015 16:05

Made up for you dog! Must have been such a relief. Making me more excited for my scan on Saturday now! I'm another one who doesn't understand the dates thing with regards to long and short cycles, maybe one of you lovely ladies could explain it to us please?!

PeasinPod1 · 29/09/2015 16:20

grapefruit sure yours will be great too! Re. dates- it is taken from 1st day of your last period to work out EDD BUT assumes this is based on 28 day cycle and ovulating around day 14...did you pee on sticks to know when you ovulated? As I did therefore can put my dates of actual conception down to pretty much exact day (or hour!). But with irregular cycles you can ovulate at a different time, so unless you knew for sure, dates from the scan can then show you are further-or less far along than you thought?

Bluepigoon · 29/09/2015 16:27

That's great news Odog, you must be so relieved :)

Nicky333 · 29/09/2015 16:30

I didn't POAS but I used an app which predicted when I ovulated. My periods were pretty all over the place but with me, it had ovulation on August 25th, with my last AF on the 18th. So according to AF, I'm 6 weeks today but if I take my app as truthful, I'm 5 weeks.

Nicky333 · 29/09/2015 16:33

Hmmm. My app had me ovulating once a month for months, then twice in June, 5 days apart, once in July and twice in August, 3 weeks apart.

GrouchyKiwi · 29/09/2015 16:51

Great new, ODog.

Sorry you can't have your home birth, Gizzy.

Peas I never have to POAS to work out my ovulation because I always feel it. (It hurts.) For both of my daughters the scans gave me a date 2 days before the EDD predicted by my last period, and both of my daughters were born on my EDD not the scans!

Guests are now coming tomorrow so I got to relax a bit more this afternoon. Still slowly tidying and cleaning the house, but at least there's not the rush.

ODog · 29/09/2015 17:18

Yep what peas said is my understanding. Nhs calculations are based on regular 28 day cycles assuming you ovulate on day 14. Since I stopped BF mine were anywhere from 28-36 days. In August I think I ovulated around the 12th/13th just based on symptoms and the app (also based on 28days) had me to ovulate on 9th. So not surprising the baby measured 5ish days smaller.

Thanks for all your well wishes and good luck to those with scabs coming up. It was very nerve racking though. When they did my pulse and blood pressure my pulse was 115 and I think it's normally nearer 75!
