First trimester worries and joys. Test taking, morning sickness, midwife appointments and scans. It's all happening.

Can't believe we filled up a thread already. (I'll get this deleted if someone's already created a second thread, but I didn't see one!

cantbelieve that's a good price for the Harmony, I'm
paying £475 outside of London!

PisforPeter · 27/10/2015 14:30

Nicky a raised WCC suggests infection. It should probably be repeated to ensure it is coming down. Not an unusual finding though.

PeasinPod1 · 27/10/2015 14:36

Pis + Cantbelieve think its only £400 at the FMC if you are 10 weeks or under, then it goes up I think? cantbelieve brilliant you got such great results must be such a relief.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 27/10/2015 14:40

Aha peas I think you are right - otherwise is £500. Best thing is FMC are a research centre and non-profit making so all the money goes into research (once swanky Harley street clinic is paid for, naturally!)
Am an NHS kid all the way so this is my first/only foray into private medicine but glad we did it.
Mind you - the overall test results compared almost exactly to the NHS combined test, which was interesting!

PeasinPod1 · 27/10/2015 15:01

cantbelieve I love that place too!! Had a late scan there with DS as after the final NHS/20 weeks one it felt like such a wait, was also inspired by fact all their proceeds go towards the charity. Would so recommend them & the late scan, checks so thoroughly for any issues with blood flow/placenta which is a big cause of serious complications in final trimester.

PisforPeter · 27/10/2015 15:28

Yes, I will be having a 32 week scan also.

VickyHW · 27/10/2015 17:30

Just had my cervix check at the EPU and they found out I now have cervical erosion (or cervical ectropion as its now called) so that could well be the cause of the spotting I've been having. Unfortunately if it stays it could mean I'll spot/bleed throughout but apparently might well just go away...

ODog · 27/10/2015 18:46

I have no idea what that is vicky, but I hope it's nothing too serious.

MollieRos · 27/10/2015 18:51

Frozen and Cantbelieve glad your scans/results went well.

Vicky I'm not sure what that is either, but presumably nothing serious? And reassuring if you may have a good reason for any spotting.

I had my booking in appt today, the midwife was lovely and we had a little tour of our local midwife led unit. They're also very pro home birth which was great- I wasn't sure whether they'd think I was being optimistic considering it for a first baby, but the midwife was really positive. Though the MLU is a great option too- it seemed like a really calm environment, and only 5 mins down the road.

Seems very strange that I've just had a long chat with the midwife about pregnancy, and now have some pregnancy notes here- it's almost as if I'm having a baby or something, eek!

VickyHW · 27/10/2015 19:13

Sorry yeah explaining it might help! My sister and one of my best friends have had it in the past, it's quite common and not dangerous - it's just where cells that usually grow inside your cervix, grow on the outside of your cervix inside your vagina up at the top. Because they're more delicate and less robust than the cells that normally grow there (to withstand shagging etc I guess) they get irritated and bleed. Just caused by hormones, more likely to happen if you're pregnant or on the pill. Normally it presents itself as bleeding after sex (my sister had this and when her doctor explained he he said her cervical cells were "pouty" then did a pouty face for ages while she sat there staring at him in horror haha) you can have it treated (maybe not advisable when preg?) by cauterising them or using silver nitrate. Nothing to really worry about though, think they've changed the name from erosion because nothing actually is eroding and it sounds scary!

Glad your midwife was nice Mollie - mine was v anti home birth! I wasn't planning on one anyway but when she went though the options she was very negative and said she wouldnt recommend it which wouldn't be very helpful if that was what you wanted to do!

Greyhorses · 27/10/2015 20:36

Hi everyone, sorry I have not been here in a while, trying to catch up!

Had my 12week scan today, so far so good and baby looks as it should at this stage. Feeling like I might be able to get excited now finally Grin
Oh and they took 7 vials of blood which was not so good...I think my midwife is a vampire!

evs34 · 27/10/2015 21:09

Hi all. Not been on for ages. My heart goes out to those who have had to deal with such sad things.
11+3 now and still feeling so sick and exhausted most of the time. Third time seems so much worse!
Have been listening with Doppler for the last few days which is lovely. Nice to know all ok whilst waiting for scan next week. I have the angel sounds Doppler by jumper and have used it for both previous bumps. Can be tricky to find heart though so not for the faint hearted at this early stage!! Can't wait to get settled into second trimester and hopefully feel better. Will be nice to start enjoying being pregnant! Good luck for scans and blood results xx

Brenna24 · 28/10/2015 09:18

Icant it might be that you just struggle to absorb the folate. Your midwife wasn't exactly helpful though, she should be giving you advice on other sources of it. Most vitamins and minerals aren't as well absorbed from tablets as they are from food, so I would take an extra folic acid on its own tablet but I would also take more foods with high folic acid. Breakfast cereals are supplemented with it so they may well help a bit although I suspect the cereals in them may slow absorption a bit. Green veg, especially sprouts and broad beans are high in folic acid. So plenty of those will help.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 28/10/2015 10:15

Thank you Brenna :)

Southy84 · 28/10/2015 17:02

Glad you have an answer to your bleeding vicky and that it isn't too serious

I'm still feeling rubbish too evs ive been signed off to work from home.
That's anazing you can use the Doppler already, I didn't think they worked until a lot later.

Hi to everyone ive missed, I'm frantically scrolling on my phone which is having a funny 5 minutes and doing it's own thing....

brenna hope you're doing ok Flowers

Greyhorses · 28/10/2015 17:27

Southy I was signed off too a few weeks ago and I felt so much better for it!

Has anyone else started to notice a bit of a belly happening? I'm definatley filling out around the middle and people have commented! I have had hyperemsis so haven't been eating much more but I do feel very bloated so it could just be that!

Southy84 · 28/10/2015 17:53

Maybe I should have got myself properly signed off as I'm always so tired too grey and I definitely have a little belly. Can't hold it in anymore! I'm 11+3 today, also have the groin pains again today, which seem to appear about every 4 days or so, I like to think it's a growth spurt every few days and things stretching. Roll on the 5th Til my scan, still feeling so nervous

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 28/10/2015 19:14

I very definitely have a belly to see, it was getting hard to hide for the past week or two so it is with enormous relief that I am now telling people! And according to my constantly changing scan dates I'm possibly 13 weeks and due earlier again, though i don't think that is even possible with our dates!
Anyway I just want to reassure anyone who is a first timer like me that while it's a long way to 12 weeks it DOES get better, I was suffering mild depression at first and convinced I would never feel ok again, but am feeling almost human again (though a much bigger, hungrier, grumpier version admittedly!!)

frozensmoothie · 28/10/2015 19:31

I'm still feeling rubbish too. I think I'm feeling worse in week 13 than I did in weeks 10-12! The tiredness is becoming overwhelming now and I'm wondering if I need some time off work too. I'm just about ok to push through the week but so exhausted by the weekends I have no energy to do anything other than lie on the sofa. Then before you know it it's Monday again! I really need to tell my manager.

Definitely a belly going on here and I'm wondering if anyone has guessed already !

Southy84 · 28/10/2015 19:56

Glad you're feeling a bit better cantbelieve I feel nervous at being at the stage to tell people as I'm really struggling to say "I'm pregnant" as I'm so worried I will tell people then something bad will happen. I'm so trying to stay positive though. My dates have changed three times already too, I'm bang on the date used if we go by the first day of my last period so surely it can't change again.

It's bizarre isn't it frozen I feel like I've backtracked to week 5/6 in terms of tiredness. I thought we were supposed to start feeling better about now?!

frozensmoothie · 28/10/2015 20:09

Tell me about it southy I thought I'd be going into the blooming phase by now, not feeling even worse!

I know what you mean about struggling to say 'I'm pregnant' and worriyng that something bad will happen if you tell people. I've told mine and DPs close family and quite a few friends now, but really struggling with telling work. I work in a small team of only 6 people and Im the first one to get pregnant in the 4 years my manager has been there.

Is anyone else due on 1st May, or might I be the first one on this thread to give birth?!!Shock not that I want to think that far ahead quite yet!

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 28/10/2015 20:19

Well frozen 1st may was what I thought we got told yesterday as one of our 4 dates (?!) but according to OH it was 3rd...who even knows! I definitely felt extra tired and cross in week 11 and think I might just be feeling better this week because of telling everyone...
I still can't really says "I'm pregnant!" easily though, I keep just pointing at my belly....they get the idea!

Southy84 · 28/10/2015 20:22

I'm so glad it's not just me frozen DH told his dsis' as I just couldn't say it. Haven't told anyone else yet and won't until next thurs at our nhs 12 week scan, also dreading it. A couple of people including my manager know at work but that's because I haven't been there much and I had no choice but to tell them. I'm sure you'll feel better once you've told them, but I know how you feel, I get a racing heart just preparing myself to say the words. Once I tell my friends I don't really want to have to talk about it though so debating putting it off a bit longer, only problem is my lack of drinking at friend events/expanding stomach will make it very obvious!

Southy84 · 28/10/2015 20:24

Oh I'm edd of 15th may now and love the pointing to the belly idea cantbelieve Grin

frozensmoothie · 28/10/2015 20:42

Haha I like the pointing at the belly idea too! My mum has managed lots of people over the years and said that some people in her team annouced it by coming into her office and putting their scan photos on her desk! Not sure I'd be brave enough to do that. You're right though, I will feel better when I've told work and I know I'm making it into a bigger deal in my head that it will be in reality!

The lack of drinking /expanding stomach is quite hard to explain away! Do you think some of them may have guessed already? My friends were great but did all want to talk about it lots. It was quite hard as one friend has just had a mc, one has been trying for a few months and is getting quite despondent and DPs sister has also been trying for a while so I wanted to be sensitive. They were all super excited though and there was even talk of arranging baby showers already, I think they just want any excuse for a party!
