First trimester worries and joys. Test taking, morning sickness, midwife appointments and scans. It's all happening.

Can't believe we filled up a thread already. (I'll get this deleted if someone's already created a second thread, but I didn't see one!

So I've been lurking for a while but having had our 12 week scan I think I finally dare declare myself (if it's not weird/entirely too late at this point!!). Me: 37, Live in London, first baby due on 5th May.
And yeah, I have finally had to admit that my body no longer enjoys coffee (or cake, wtf??) and am embracing the cheese and carb addiction. Hi everyone!

ODog · 25/10/2015 19:26

Hi cantbelieve! Absolutely not too late and congrats on your scan. Welcome aboard!

GrouchyKiwi · 25/10/2015 20:20

Hi cantbelieve! Not weird at all. I joined a thread for DD2 at about 6 months, I think.

Thanks for the sympathy and advice, everyone. I've not given up caffeine entirely (there's no way I'd get through the day without it) but I have limited it quite a bit so that might be a factor. Could just be the hormones too. I suffer from migraines at the best of times, so being unable to take the preventative medication doesn't help. I want to see the GP about other things so I think I'll have to bring it up then.

Toffee Re cysts: I've had a couple of burst ovarian cysts over the years, and used to go for regular scans to check if I had any (back in NZ). Quite often I would, and then the next time they'd be gone. Apparently the body throws them up sometimes - could be as a result of ovulation - and then just absorbs them again, so they're not usually something to worry about.

Hello all..... after a panicky few days (my anxiety is really bad), I am having a scan this morning at 10.30am Time drags at 9 weeks !!!!! Being my #4 you would think I would relax like my dh. But nooooo...... terribly stressed. Sorry for a downer post.

Southy84 · 26/10/2015 08:22

Welcome cantbelieve you're not too late at all, congratulations :) I have also gone off cake and chocolate... Something weird going on there!!!! I'm all about the spice at the moment Grin

Good idea to see you dr grouchy hopefully they will have something that will help.

Good luck with you scan today notso you're not having a downer don't worry, pregnancy is definitely a anxious time, I'm sure everything will be ok but it's that not knowing that also does my head in.

Brenna24 · 26/10/2015 08:44

Southy84 · 26/10/2015 08:53

Of course brenna will think of you, baby Rowan and your family all of today, take care Flowers Flowers

VickyHW · 26/10/2015 08:57

I’m so sorry for your news Poster Grapefruit and Brenna sending you all lots of positive thoughts xxxx

TiffanyI’m overweight and my midwife was so awkward about it but not in a mean way, she kept stroking my hand and saying “you are a leetle overweight….but you’re soooo pretty though” like, I know I’m chubs, you can just say it and not sugarcoat it! I explained how I played roller derby up until I found out I was pregnant and then she was like “so pretty and strongggg” haha. Hope it went well.
I haven’t dared weigh myself yet because I’ve been so lazy and wanted to eat lots of white bread, biscuits, and pasta bakes, loads of stodge basically. I’m feeling quite guilty about not eating as well as I could be.

Alaska I don’t wear jeans, but I’ve just bought my first pair of maternity tights! They’re too big in the belly but they pull up to my boobs which is much more comfortable as my normal tights had started to feel like they were digging in, and had begun to attractively roll down occasionally.

I’ve been having more issues with anxiety which is why I haven’t really been checking this thread, still having trouble with intrusive thoughts etc. I wish so much my scan hadn’t been put back to the 5th. My referral to the mental health team hasn’t come through and I haven’t been able to get in touch with my midwife for two weeks, her voicemail suggests ringing the “24 hour midwife line” which is just the maternity unit, who won’t speak to you until you’re 2nd trimester, so I get passed to EPU, just left them a voicemail to see if they can help but I don’t want to waste their time.
Oh and welcome to the new posters!!

VickyHW · 26/10/2015 09:00

Of course Brenna Flowers xxx

MollieRos · 26/10/2015 09:32

Brenna I'm home today so I'll light a candle for your Rowan Flowers

Notso good luck for your scan later.

Vicky sorry you've been having a tough time, I hope your referral comes through soon.

Welcome cantbelieve and congratulations! I've had to sadly accept that I've totally gone off not only chocolate but also cheese... I never thought I'd see the day!

I'm feeling horrible today, and have admitted defeat and stayed off work. I'm just feeling so nauseous and headachey, and have developed a bit of vertigo over the weekend. I really hope that clears up soon, I had labrynthitis a few years ago and it was awful, so fingers crossed it doesn't get much worse. So I'm basically feeling sorry for myself, as well as guilty for missing work. My work involves working with families, so I've had to cancel several appointments today, but I just couldn't face it feeling so sick and dizzy. I've been vague as to the reason I'm off but I'm wondering if it'll be easier to tell my manager the real reason I'm ill.

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 26/10/2015 09:51

Morning ladies Smile

Thanks for all the comments about my mw appointment, it went really well. She was REALLY nice, and barely mentioned my weight other than to give me extra folic acid and say that I would be given the option to see a dietician. Came out feeling all glowy and excited, which is exactly how you should feel coming out of your very first appt in my opinion! Phew.

Oddly, every calculator I used online came up saying that my due date was 15-17 May, but the mw calculated 22nd May so now I'm a bit thrown off! Will have to wait and see I suppose. Just need my dating scan to come in the post now, ohhh the waiting is agonising!

notso, please don't feel that you're being a downer. Posters on this thread are really supportive when anyone is feeling worried/blue, so just vent all you like!

Mollie I hope you feel better after a day at home resting.

VickyH sorry to hear you're struggling. Anxiety is such a horrible, all-encompassing thing.

Brenna sending thoughts and prayers to you today. Flowers

VickyHW · 26/10/2015 09:51

Thanks Mollie, the EPU just phoned me back and said they'd chase my midwife for me, she then phoned me five minutes later to say she was putting my referral through now (!) and to phone if I haven't heard from them by the end of the week. Still slow but at least she got in touch...

I hope you feel better for having a day at home! I told my editor fairly early on because I've had to have quite a few days off and I didn't want her to think I was skiving, would your manager be supportive?

PeasinPod1 · 26/10/2015 10:04

Brenna will be thinking of you at 10.30 xx

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 26/10/2015 10:15

brenna will be thinking of you 1030 and will light a candle for Rowan Flowers

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 26/10/2015 10:23

Welcome cantbelieve and congratulations! Never too late to join us :)

Brenna, I'm already thinking of Baby Rowan and your family now and will continue to do so over the next hour. I hope this service gives you a safe place to grieve and allows you some sort of catharsis. You're incredible brave and we're all with you.

Good luck with your scan today notso - fingers crossed for strong heartbeat and a good yolk sac!

Vicky - hope your referral comes through soon, but you always know you've got a very supportive, non-judgemental group of women here who will support you as best we can from afar.

xxx

notsoold · 26/10/2015 10:31

Brenna..... sorry can't tag. I am thinking of you and little Rowan.....xxxx

notsoold · 26/10/2015 10:34

Thank you all. The scan went well and there is some blood that I will expect now to pass. Dates are the same as mine so far and a little photo to show dh. ( he stayed with dc).

Tiffany I am glad you came out of the mw app happy. That is what is all about.

Hugs to you all. I must go home (still at the car park).Wink

frozensmoothie · 26/10/2015 10:58

Wow, this thread has moved quickly. Lots to catch up on!

Thinking of you and little Rowan Brenna

Glad that your scans went well Toffee and notso and that your midwife appointment went well Tiff

Welcome to cantbelieve

Sorry to hear you're not well Mollie. Sorry to anyone else I've missed. Just having a quick scan through while I'm meant to be working!

I've been suffering on and off with headaches too and only managed to leave the house once to pop to the supermarket all weekend.

Have got my scan and combined screening at 9:30 tomorrow morning. Can't come soon enough!

ODog · 26/10/2015 11:10

Glad the scan went well notso and hope the service went well brenna.

We had our 12wk scan this morning and all is well plus nuchal measurements look good so very happy. Measuring 12+3 so due date is 6th May.

MollieRos · 26/10/2015 11:29

Vicky that sounds more positive with the referral. Frustrating that it's been so slow and you've had to chase, but at least you've spoken to your midwife! I'm sure my manager would be really supportive if I told her- she's absolutely lovely. I'd just prefer to hold out as long as possible before telling her- the number of people that already know seems to have spiralled out of control already and I'm only 8 weeks!

Notso and Odog glad your scans went well Smile and good luck for tomorrow Frozen

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 26/10/2015 11:52

Ahh brilliant news on the scan Odog, early May baby - lovely! And yay for you too notso, nice for us to have a string of good news. Hope DH likes the photo!!

Mollie - sorry, had missed you were off work today! Hope you're feeling a bit better and have got your feet up. I think I'm starting to get a bit 'in tune' with what I need to do to make myself feel better now (mainly staying hydrated is the best thing for me!) so hopefully you'll get into a pattern where you start to learn what helps you feel better.

The things we go through, eh?

StormTr00per · 26/10/2015 16:44

Thinking of you and baby Rowan Brenna Flowers

Glad scans went well odog, notso and toffee.

I had booking in today went well mw was lovely, and came away with so much baby info books/packs etc so much to read!!!!

I'm feeling quite sick tonight, evenings always the worst. 11+2 today and I wonder how many wks it will b until the nausea goes!!

ljjeffro · 26/10/2015 20:13

Hi Ladies. Hope everyone is ok. Was thinking of you this morning Brenna Flowers.
I had another private scan today.Going by the the dates of the last scan I should have been 9+2 but I'm actually 9+6 which was a nice surprise, especially seen as I'm pretty sure me and DH didn't dtd around the time I should have conceived Confused. We could hear a strong heartbeat and saw a little arm waving around which was lovely. I'm feeling a lot more confident now in the build up to the 12wk scan. Only 2 more weeks to go. I realise now I've been very lucky with the lack of sickness, I only wish id realised that a lot earlier rather than worrying about it. My main thing at the moment is bloody constipation! Does anybody have any tricks up their sleeve about how to help with this?
Does anyone have anything plans for this week? Im off for half term and will be spending most of my week painting the hall which is taking forever!
