started a new thread as the old one was getting full up. Thought I would post the link to stats here too so people can update if they want!

I haven't really wanted any but am not much of a drinker. Friend came our for a meal with us when she was pregnant and had a red wine - said never again as she felt so rough the next day you'd have thought she had drank 3 bottles haha

Trinpy · 11/09/2015 19:08

Welcome to the newbies and congrats to everyone whose had positive scans over the last few days. very exciting that we've got our first set of march '16 twins confirmed!

Missdee I had spd in my last pregnancy from 21 weeks. I was on crutches and had to take codeine every day to stay on top of the pain. I already have some hip pain from carrying ds around so I'm refusing to carry him now unless absolutely necessary and I'm moving things around at home bit too so it's not such a strain on my pelvis. Doing all the exercises my physio recommended last time round is helping too. I would really recommend getting as much help as you can early on. I've also learnt the hard way not to be a martyr and I will be taking sick leave/early maternity leave if it gets really awful again.

We went back for a second scan yesterday. Baby was measuring exactly 12 weeks so I'm still set for a due date of the 24th. So amazing to see my baby's tiny legs kicking and little fingers waving!

Me624 · 11/09/2015 19:13

I'm desperate for a drink. Not normally a huge drinker (more of a binge drinker, which I know is usually even more frowned upon - can go weeks without and then get absolutely plastered on a night out) so didn't think I'd miss it that much but it's because I know I can't, I want it more!

So far I haven't had any, but I've got a wedding coming up and am planning half a glass of fizz at the toast and will probably allow myself a Buck's Fizz at Christmas too. Other than that nothing.

Poppins27 · 11/09/2015 20:25

Well I feel terribly naughty now but I did have a small white wine spritzer last week whilst out for a meal for a friends birthday. Just the one. Didn't feel bad at the time, happy just to have one and top up with lemonade all evening. Don't drink at home at all but at a wedding in November and will probably have a glass to toast with etc there too.

shieldbug · 11/09/2015 21:25

I will definitely have a small glass of something on Christmas Day and New Year; I did the same with ds2 (who had same due date as this one) and didn't feel any guilt. A teeny amount is fine. Unfortunately with ds1 I had a massive craving for white wine, which wasn't funny (but was never fulfilled).

Missnatalie Yes to flutters and the occasional tiny kick (started yesterday for definite at 14+5) and this is my third too. Such a relief to actually feel something.

MotherKat Congratulations! Hope you are feeling better soon. Good luck with twins!

Missdee Sorry that your spd is already making an appearance. Trinpy's advice sounds v sensible.Sympathies.

gemsparkle84 · 11/09/2015 22:16

Oooooh interesting! Well no judgement here... Each to their own. I do very much enjoy a drink! With our work we don't get out much so I'm a glass of wine in the bath kinda gal! Still having the bath... Without the wine... So far! That's a nice idea to wait until Christmas and have a glass then. I think if I had a function eg; wedding I prob would to toast etc... I'm gonna put it off for as long as possible and seriously look forward to it when I do!

MyNameIsSuz · 11/09/2015 22:35

I had thought I might have one at Christmas! I didn't have that problem last time as ds is an end of September baby so Christmas was safe. I'd normally have wine with dinner, not every night but definitely at the weekend, but I haven't wanted it at all thankfully!

Achm · 12/09/2015 05:49

Hello! Room for a newbie?
I'm preg with my first, although I have three step kids. I've had my first scan and can't wait for the next (16th Oct!) I'm due 5th March x

MotherKat · 12/09/2015 07:42

Hi Achm,
Gratz, are your stepchildren excited? How are you feeling?

maybebabybee · 12/09/2015 08:09

welcome achm :)

re: drinking - I probably won't drink, just because I don't really like drinking anyway. But may have a small glass of red wine on holiday if I feel like it.

I am eating brie and the occasional rare steak however, I have to confess. Mainly because all french women do and they don't have higher rates of anything than we do here. The list of what pregnant women should avoid seems to get bigger all the time - when my mum was pregnant she didn't avoid anything and she's had four healthy babies born...so that's my logic, anyway.

IndomitabIe · 12/09/2015 09:28

Morning all,

Hi Achm

Last time I had a few sips of champagne at a wedding at 10 weeks (was trying to be stealth!), and then had a glass of Rose the night before I went into labour. No regrets, I'd do it again!

I think I would have the odd small glass, if the opportunity arose. I'm not a big drinker at the best of times so it would be a super small amount anyway.

I'm also quite pragmatic about the food things. I like runny eggs, therefore I've been eating them! (Lion stamped ones only).

I'm finally past 12 weeks (12+1). Scan on Tuesday. Am I the last?

gemsparkle84 · 12/09/2015 09:45

Ha I must confess I've been enjoying runny boiled eggs! Lion Stamped also!

Oooooh Maybee a rare steak!!!!!! Yummmmmm!!!!!

It's awful once it kicks in!

Thanks folks for the advice, Trinpy I'm definitely going to call the midwife this week and get physio/support band sorted ASAP. Although, tbh I didn't find the support much help in my last 2 pregnancies. Will give anything a go though. I can't remember any of the exercises so need to get refreshed on them to try and make a difference early. I'm literally in so much pain right now and I'm dreading it getting worse. The thing is, I actually love being pregnant, if only I weren't in so much pain lol Leg cramps have started too. Does anyone else wake up with terrible leg cramps at night?

On the alcohol subject, I've been pregnant over Xmas and new year every time (4!!) and haven't had a drink. I seem to vaguely remember having a wine and lemonade with dd1 at new year but nothing else. Everyone to their own but I personally think it's not too hard to cut it out for a year or so of my life. Though I'll be nearer 2 year as I hope to breastfeed for 10/12 months and probably won't drink then either unless it's a big occasion I'm going to.

docmcstuffins1 · 12/09/2015 11:03

I don't drink, but didn't really before pregnancy. Interestingly there is no real evidence out there that low level alcohol intake has any effect on baby's IQ/development, in fact there are many places in Europe where the guidance still says that the occasional 1-2 units is fine (and they don't have any higher rates of alcohol in pregnancy problems than we do). PP was right, it's binge drinking that does the damage as your liver processes alcohol into acetaldehyde which can cross the placenta. If you drink slowly your liver can process the acetaldehyde before it reaches the placenta, if you drink quickly or larger amounts the liver can't keep up and more acetaldehyde gets into your/baby's blood stream. The baby can process some acetaldehyde, but not much, if too much crosses the placenta it gets into the baby's tissues and can impact development.

If you haven't already I'd suggest reading Emily Oster's book "Expecting Better" it's a fascinating read if you want to know the statistics (or lack of) behind all the advice we're given in pregnancy.

Trinpy · 12/09/2015 11:46

I'm firmly in the 'an occasional small drink is fine' camp. I had an April baby last time and had a small glass of wine on Christmas day, a very diluted bucks fizz on new years eve, and and a small drink with a meal during the first trimester. I never had more than 1 unit at a time so very safe. I also ate runny eggs and medium rare steaks.

I was so exhausted last night but ds ended up having a terrible nights sleep - the worst since he was born. He finally fell asleep in our bed but was very restless so every time I managed to drift off I was woken up by him kicking me in the stomach, climbing on my head, etc. At one point he pulled my pillows out from under my head and threw them Angry. I was in tears this morning because I'm so tired! I'm working 12.5 hours tomorrow as well .

Rosieblossom123 · 12/09/2015 12:41

Welcome Achm we're scan buddies Smile I'm due a day after you!!

ThePug · 12/09/2015 13:30

I see lots of 20 week scan dates being mentioned! Were these booked through your midwife or at the time of your 12 week scans? My mw requested the 12 week one on the system when doing my booking appointment then a letter arrived a few days later. I'm not seeing my midwife for two more weeks (when I'll be 16+4) so hoping I don't have to wait for her to book it!

I never drink much and haven't had any this pregnancy, nor when we were ttc. I might have a sip of someone's drink at Christmas but can't see me having more than that. Have had runny yolk fried eggs though!

Missdee2014 · 12/09/2015 13:38

Pug, I'm the same. My mw requested my 12 week scan at booking appt but I haven't yet heard anything re my 20 week scan. I'm back at my mw on 29th September when I'll be 16+3. I'm pretty sure they will send a letter out automatically, that's what I'm hoping anyway. Although, I'm going to call my mw this week anyway so will probably just ask while I'm on.

QforCucumber · 12/09/2015 15:13

I got a letter about 3 days after my 12 week one with the date for the 20 week one. But had to arrange 16 week appt separately through the midwife directly

purplecat27 · 12/09/2015 15:37

Bargainous heads up! I just popped into Mamas and Papas to look at maternity clothes and got a pair of maternity jeans for £5! The label price still said £36! Might be worth a look if you've got one nearby.

AdorabeezleWinterpop · 12/09/2015 20:24

The sonographer booked my 20 week scan at my 12 week scan - printed the letter out then and there!

Me624 · 12/09/2015 20:30

I booked my 20 week scan with the receptionist straight after having my 12 week one. Every area seems to be so different!

Missdee2014 · 12/09/2015 20:58

Thanks Purplecat, will have a look.

TriJo · 12/09/2015 21:40

I booked mine with the receptionist after the 12 week scan - mine is on 29 October and I'll be 19+4 then.

Gingerlady123 · 12/09/2015 22:30

Evening ladies,
My 12 week and 16 week appointment got booked by my midwife at my booking in appointment. My 20 week scan got booked with the receptionist at the hospital after my 12 week scan. I'll be 19+6 and its on the 30th October. I can't wait.
13 weeks today and still being sick so still taking my phenergan tablets as otherwise I can struggle to keep even liquid down. They have been a life saver. 100 per cent takes the nausea/vomiting away. I can take up to two a day but I find one every two/three days works fine. I just take one whenever I start bringing my water back up again.
Re the drinking. It was dps birthday yesterday and I was very tempted to have one bottle of beer. I knew it would be fine but I also knew I'd feel to guilty after so I didn't. The odd drink won't do any harm in my opinion though. My sil is around 29 weeks and she a shandy yesterday.
I wasn't a drinker before hand though. I would have a few drinks maybe every two months or so. Can't say I've missed it at all.
