Had a right rollercoaster in the last 24 hours. Started bleeding yesterday at about 12pm (I was 6w4d pregnant yesterday), bright red blood, which is the one everyone tells you is the bad one! Absolutely terrified so called the EPU immediately, but they stop doing scans at noon at the weekends so they couldn't see me until the next morning. To top it all off this happened about 2 hours before we were due at a friend's wedding, so I hadn't gotten ready, but made the snap decision to just go because otherwise we'd just be sitting at home feeling sorry for ourselves. So queue some speed ironing while doing my makeup and trying not to cry! The wedding was lovely, absolutely beautiful and really took our minds off everything. I did bleed all night, probably filled about 4 liners so was pretty sure it must be all over. Luckily I was driving so didn't hit the booze in despair! The bleeding tailed off when I got home at about 10pm, so had a restless nights sleep.
This morning we FINALLY had a scan at EPU, saw a nurse first and went through everything that had happened and then had a scan with the radiographer. It was odd for me because they asked me to come with a full bladder, whereas having gone through IVF I'm used to having internal scans (I have a scan booked at 7 weeks which will be internal). I didn't think they'd be able to see anything and would have to do an internal scan, but when she started scanning I could see something in my uterus straight away, so I knew that there was still hope. Then she zoomed in and told us that should could see a lovely heartbeat, and pointed it out for us, and there is was fluttering away! She said it measured 5mm which was right for my dates and the heartbeat was the right speed. My bleeding was caused by bruising in my womb, which is apparently very normal. It's sort of delayed implantation bleeding she said, but nothing to worry about. I have to admit I was so relived I cried!
After that we saw a midwife who reassured us a little more then congratulated us and sent us home!
So yeah... An eventful 24 hours indeed!
