Spoke too soon, just went to check - 2kg heavier than last week! Shock. I look the same, where has it gone??

thundernlightning · 01/11/2015 01:57

I'm 18 weeks and have gained 7lbs! I guess that's within healthy parameters but it seems like such a lot.

FatimaLovesBread · 01/11/2015 04:05

With dd1 I didn't put any weight on until 25 weeks despite having a very obvious bump. I think I just lost it from other places to compensate. I haven't weighed myself recently but I don't think I'll have been as lucky this time.

Flu jab is still red and more swollen. Popped to the chemist this morning for them to have a look, they think it's an allergic reaction so I'm taking antihistamines until doctors on Monday.

I can't sleep, DH is on a rare night out for his birthday. I'm guessing looking at the time that he's decided to crash at his friends so he doesn't disturb me but my anxiety means I can't sleep properly not knowing. Plus our noisy neighbours have just come home from a night out and I can here them through the wall Angry

thundernlightning · 01/11/2015 05:13

Urg, noisy neighbours are awful. Hopefully they pipe down soon. Can you text your dh? (I'm the same as you, I never sleep well when I'm waiting for someone to come home.)

FatimaLovesBread · 01/11/2015 11:43

He came home about 5 minutes after I posted after falling asleep at his friends. He sounded remarkably compusmentus from what I could here (managing to walk without banging in to walls etc) and took himself off to bed in the spare room Smile

Want2bSupermum · 01/11/2015 11:58

I'm 18 weeks with weight gain of 4lbs. I started this pregnancy just into the obese range (by 2lbs but still Blush) so I'm trying to limit my weight gain.

No weight gain at 14wjs is great. It's very hard to lose the last 10lbs of baby weight. Actually with my 2nd I only lost 15lbs delivering DS and he weighed 10lb. When I got home I took a look in the mirror and cried. I had gained about 25lb. I managed to lose small amounts of weight but never got it all off. I'm determined to limit my weight gain this time and get back to my normal weight after the baby gets here. I really want my body back. It's that bad that I've already started speaking to DH about it so he won't mind me spending the money. I'm thinking to hire a cook for 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. I just don't have time to prepare food and here in the US the supermarkets are terrible with very limited fresh prepared veggies.

PurplePoppy17 · 01/11/2015 15:56

How is everyone finding the whole 'growth spurt' stage? I've been feeling lots of stretching and sharp pains, to what I can only describe like as if I have a tampon in with a pin and every so often I get a we jab, it lasts about 2 seconds and goes away but other times it can be 4/5 seconds. Is this normal? Anyone else feeling like this? My belly has grown in the last week and is getting harder too. I am loving the fact that I'm showing now though as it feels so real Smile. What pains or stretches do others feel? I

ComeLuckyApril · 01/11/2015 16:41

I was getting loads of growing pains last week, and they seem to have calmed down again now, but then yesterday I started have breast pain as they seem to be growing suddenly. Also loving feeling like I am showing and feeling how hard it is around the bottom. It hurts now when I stretch to reach something too quickly.

thundernlightning · 02/11/2015 02:09

I sneezed the other day while lying half-twisted (trying not to sneeze on DH) and dear lord, the agony! I hurt all evening and into the next morning. Be careful when you sneeze!

MrWriter · 02/11/2015 08:55

Hi all,

Glad to hear you're all keeping well (well except for the preggo pains/symptoms!). Can I ask about piles please? I know its TMI but I got a few after a traumatic labour with ds1 and they seem to have popped out recently.

Yesterday I could barely move, is this normal? Can I use the normal creams?

MazzleDazzle · 02/11/2015 09:18

Yes to the tampon in with a pin! It's stopped now though (17+3).

Last pregnancy I had vaginal varicose veins and I think it's happening again. When I stand for long periods it's sore and also when I stand up from sitting the pain intensifies. My whole groin area is sore to the touch. TMI...by the end of my last pregnancy it looked like I had Frankenstein's fanjo! The good news is it went away as soon as baby was born. Has anyone else ever had this?

PurplePoppy17 · 02/11/2015 15:00

I didn't realise vaginal varicose veins were possible? Sounds so sore.
I've got piles too, internal piles. Yay!! So it hurts... A lot. I think I've got with having IBS and everything has kind of lost the plot really.
Anyone else had internal piles?
I'm glad the tampon and pin thing is normal(ish) I was beginning to get really worried.

Want2bSupermum · 02/11/2015 15:33

You should report it to your midwife. Here in the US the obns really want to know about any varicose veins including piles (which are varicose veins). They put you on a different supplement and a stool softener plus monitor you more closely for hydration levels. I didn't realize how common it is to have piles/varicose veins. Quite a few friends have mentioned to me in passing and I thank my lucky stars that in both pregnancies the most painful bodily issue I had was my skin splitting around my belly button with DS. OMG it was so painful and there was nothing I could do.

MazzleDazzle · 02/11/2015 16:34

Oww! I'm wincing at the thought of your skin splitting Shock.

I never mentioned it to my midwife last time, but I'm definitely going to say something at my next appt. I'm sure last time it was in the last trimester. At 17 weeks, this is a long time to feel sore. Just picked up DDs from school and walked home. Had to stop to sit down to get relief from the throbbing.

MrWriter · 03/11/2015 09:57

Glad to hear that its more common than I though, but I will mention to the dr at my 20 week scan (Friday 13th!!)

Skin splitting sounds awful, I think I'll stick with the piles!!

I got cream yesterday and I can walk properly now, was a bit John Wayne on Sunday!!

waxweasel · 03/11/2015 11:43

Argh, skin splitting sounds like torture! The worst would be knowing it would just keep slowly getting worse as you got bigger - hideous. Sounds like you had a hard time of it with your DS pregnancy Want2Be!

Vaginal varicose veins and piles don't sound much fun either. Poor ladies suffering with those Flowers

Want2bSupermum · 03/11/2015 15:51

After what my friends have been through trying to get pregnant I really consider myself extremely lucky. My first pregnancy was terrible and because I had nothing to compare it to I didn't realize how bad it was until I was pregnant with DS! I thought it was normal that you threw up everyday until 18 weeks and then again intermittently through your 3rd trimester. It is why I came on here. There was always a gaggle of others who said 'yes that is normal, nothing to worry about keep moving along'. While I knew the skin splitting on my belly was not normal and yes it was very uncomfortable, I just got on with it because my baby was doing fine. I have had two close friends lose their babies this year (Stillbirth at 38 weeks and forcep delivery with the baby having a massive seizure at 5 days old). I thank my lucky stars everyday and think of my friends and what they are going through.

Seriously, if you have any concerns or niggles bloody tell your MW and make them listen to you. Piles is very common during pregnancy BUT there are things out there that can reduce the pain and limit the damage. Ask them about what is available. Seriously ask about taking a stool softener and drink lots and lots and lots of water. I blocked every toilet I pooped in when I was pregnant with DD and that is saying a lot considering I live in the US, home of the power flush. My obn laughed and told me to try warm water or black coffee if I hadn't gone that day. Who knew black coffee has a mild laxative effect!

Now for creams.... Motherlove belly cream is AMAZING. It was not cheap but my it is good.

PurplePoppy17 · 04/11/2015 14:02

I just had my MW appointment and heard my babies heart beat... I nearly cried!! It was amazing. I can't wait until the next scan to see the we thing now.Smile so reassuring!!

NorthernStep · 04/11/2015 15:51

Would just like to +1 to the 'tampon with a pin' thing. Tam-pin?

Oopsnumber3 · 04/11/2015 20:20

GrinGrinGrin @Northern!

Want2bSupermum · 04/11/2015 20:42

hahaha - jk of the day!

MazzleDazzle · 04/11/2015 22:30

If anyone is suffering with thrush during this pregnancy (I've had it with all 3 of mine) then I can recommend grapefruit seed extract.

I'd tried everything and although the symptoms would clear up for a few days they'd come back.

Have been taking two a day for the last week and it's gone completely. Will continue to take it throughout my pregnancy.

Vaginal veins and thrush! Pregnancy really is gruesome sometimes. Wink

FatimaLovesBread · 05/11/2015 17:48

I've had awful pelvis pain the last couple of days. Had it with DD1 and then ended up having some physio when she was about two as all my core muscle were wrecked from the pregnancy and third degree tear (and my previously broken coccyx). Hoping it doesn't get much worse but have been discussing the option of having the odd day working from home if it does.

I've had an appointment through for the consultant midwife. I'll be having a birth debrief next month, then with that at my consultant appointment after the scan next week I can hopefully try get some ideas about birth options and whether to refuse induction at 40weeks again.

Has anyone else's bump suddenly ballooned? I feel huge already. We're going on holiday next week and I've no clothes that fit

crumblybiscuits · 05/11/2015 18:22

I find out what baby is tomorrow Grin so excited!

waxweasel · 05/11/2015 19:04

Ah I'm so jealous!! I find out in 2 weeks - ages to wait! Hope they get a good clear view for you tomorrow Smile

Sorry about the pelvic pain Fatima. I had SPD in my last pregnancy, and had been feeling quietly pleased as it hadn't kicked in this time. Then BAM it has arrived today Sad am going to try to see my osteo tomorrow to try to nip it in the bud so it doesn't get worse too fast.
