I say yes to every test and vaccination. Today I had carbon monoxide breat testing! I'm booked in for the flu jab and I'll get the whooping cough one as well in February

mazzle I don't know whether I'd terminate or not. I doubt I would but for me I'd want to be able to prepare as much as possible and know what my professional and support options might be. I have a friend who had a baby prematurely with undiagnosed Downs and just getting up to speed with everything has been a real challenge. Both scans are diagnostic and will pick up all sorts of problems

Great picture rinny

I bumped into my next door neighbour at the antenatal clinic - she was there with her daughter. There's really no other reason to be at an antenatal clinic so I've been outed. Hopefully she won't tell the world

pallas that sounds awful. Poor you

PallasCat · 17/09/2015 19:10

Great pic Rinny Smile

Since this afternoon I've been getting cramping, very specific location - low and on my right side, and it feels like a line, if that makes sense? It started very faint and very infrequent, but it's now regular, a few together every couple of minutes or so, and they've been getting stronger. No bleeding.

Thoughts? Advice? Reassurance? What should I do? (Aside from resting in bed.)

CarrotVan · 17/09/2015 19:18

It could be round ligament pain.

MazzleDazzle · 17/09/2015 19:19

crumbly that must have been terrible for you and your partner. What an awful thing to go through. FX all goes well for you this time.

With my last two pregnancies the nuchal test was't available, just a blood test, which wasn't particularly reliable. After a chat with my midwife she advised me not to bother, as people with good results went on to have babies with problems and others with worrying results had healthy babies. She said the blood test caused more worry than anything else.

But I'm guessing the new nuchal fold test is more accurate?

Congratulations on your scan poco. Great pic, Rinny! I can't believe how strong the emotional response is every time I see a scan pic.

CarrotVan · 17/09/2015 19:37

It not 100% mazzle they check heart, nasal bone, nuchal fold and then take blood but you still get a risk factor than anything absolute. The Harmony test is much more reliable but only available privately unless the 12 week screening indicates further testing would be wise

crumblybiscuits · 17/09/2015 21:14

Annoyingly even the harmony would not pick up the microdeletion Isla had as we were debating this with this pregnancy. Our sonographer knows us very well by now and she said as soon as she saw Isla on the scan she knew it would be a massive and most likely fatal problem. To be honest, even if you don't opt for the NT test if your baby has a high NT measurement they will tell you to prepare you. Thank you for kind words ladies. I'll stop with the depressing now, new pregnancy, new and hopefully healthy baby!

Want2bSupermum · 17/09/2015 22:47

They do the Harmony test as standard here in the US as well as the nuchal fold measurement.

Due to my genetic history they do a more detailed DNA test of the baby which isn't standard here (insurance pays about $1500 for it but much less lower risk/cost compared to procedures like an amniocentesis). They take quite a bit of blood at 10 weeks and I get the results back at 14 weeks. Its this test that informs my obn of the sex of our baby. Sadly, that news isn't shared with me until my 18 week scan.

Rinnyx · 18/09/2015 07:24

Thank you for all the lovely comments Smile
I am in a really OTT positive mood this morning even tho been up since 5:30, got to cover across 2 classrooms, morning and break duty today and face the boss with my due date at home time.
Even DS getting frozen stuck in my head has not knocked me.

12 weeks today Cake

ashboo76 · 18/09/2015 08:38

Pallas ring you EPU for reassurance they told me there were no stupid questions ... Resting is never bad tho xx

Londonlady2015 · 18/09/2015 10:26

12 week scan today, first scan of the whole thing. Little nervous. Not sure what else to say.

Hope everyone is well

SaltySeaBird · 18/09/2015 10:49

Good luck Londonlady2015

My official 12 week scan is next week, although I've already had 5 scans this pregnancy! I'm actually 11+6 today (I think) so almost into the much awaited second trimester.

I did have a scan this week as well and was amazed that it actually looks like a baby now, it was waving it's hands and kicking it's feet. It's amazing having seen it progress from a blob with a flickering bit in the middle to something that looks like a little baby. I think after 12 weeks they won't keep scanning me so much, just 16 weeks and then 20 weeks.

Mummyofonesofar · 18/09/2015 11:32

Peanut & London lady good luck for your scans today!

Mazzle glad your booking in went well! And that you managed to hide from the preggars ones! I was going to refuse the nuchal fold test but my MW talked me into it so I could be prepared especially with twins on the way – especially if one had a condition they wouldn’t live very long after birth, but I wouldn’t act on it during pregnancy.

Rinny beautiful looking baby there! Lovely that you heard the heartbeat too. Very cute about DS, my DS calls mine “his twinnies” Grin Also congrats on reaching 12w!!!

Glad your scan went well poco I set up a facebook group, I have a couple of inbox messages of people to add on here, I will get around to doing it tonight, had a few busy days at work – sorry!

CarrotV I think everyone should have the whooping cough one especially – I can’t believe the number of pg women who die in this country when they can be vaccinated!

How was the scab MrWriter* ?

Welcome Jeni and congratulations.

Congrats for you scan watermaid So jealous you have your birth plan sorted out! My MW wouldn’t even consider talking about it at my booking apt, she said birth options aren’t discussed until 35 weeks! Shock I told her half of all twins are born before then and she just said OIK we will talk about it at another appointment. I also had a friend who announced her pg on facebook and had a edd similar to the one I mc’d – and she knew how hard it had been for me. I confronted her about it and her excuse “I didn’t know how to tell you so left it to facebook” it is safe to say we are no longer friends!

Pallas glad you have a diagnosis on your back! Rest up and follow the advice. I would google round ligament pain so you always can check if it is the same place.

crumbly sorry about Isla xx

Mummyofonesofar · 18/09/2015 11:35

That was a long message - sorry girls!

Feeling really rubbish today - had a really long work day yesterday, taking my time back today so leaving at 12 today and meeting some friends for lunch thengoing home to bed. Have such an awful headache today which made me sick this morning. Sad

Dexlie0806 · 18/09/2015 12:46

Good luck on the scans today.

Since the sickness has been a lot less I am able to enjoy my morning coffee again. Am it right in thinking the limit is 2 cups of instant per day. Thanks

CarrotVan · 18/09/2015 13:19

Argh. DS looks like he might be coming down with chicken pox and I'm not sure if I've had it. I've spoken to the midwives and they're adding a varicella antibody test to the ones they ordered yesterday and can give me an immuno globulin booster if I need one

CarrotVan · 18/09/2015 13:23

mummy I've already started down the road for a planned section with anaesthetist and consultant referrals after my booking in. Birth plan was discussed at booking in last time too but only in quite general terms

MazzleDazzle · 18/09/2015 15:05

Dexlie, I believe it's 200mg of caffeine, which is 2 cups of instant. Caffeine is also in some soft drinks though and also chocolate. It's difficult to avoid!

Mummy at my booking spot, my MW asked about my 2 previous births (DC1 = 8 weeks early, by emergency cs. I had wanted a home birthSad. DC2 = 15 days late, tried hypnobirthing, desperate for a natural delivery, BUT ended up with another emergency cs!).

MW advised an elective this time, which is fine by me! I've given up on the idea of giving birth naturally. Tried and tried, but it's obviously not meant to be!

Good luck with your scan London!

Think my boss rumbled me today. When I stretched and yawned she looked at my stomach in shock. Don't want to tell anyone until the scan though!

Jenijena · 18/09/2015 15:54

I'm lucky in terms of the caffeine drinking, the only thing I have which I have caffeine in is chocolate (and even I don't eat that much).

I'm not sure if this was the advice when I had my last, nearly four years ago, but it looks like Stilton is on the menu. Which means Christmas will be OK.

Seem to feel sick btw 4pm and 4am at the moment, which means I've got about 10 minutes of feeling normal left (and to be honest, have been feeling grim for much of the past hour). Only threw up water last night but reminding me of how crappy the sickness was last time around. My diet at the moment is mainly bread based though... trying to cram veggies in at lunchtime when I feel vaguely normal.

Hope this is a good sign for the little one in me.

Londonlady2015 · 18/09/2015 16:09

Hi ladies
Scan all fine - seeing the heartbeat was just amazing!
There's one thing though - I have to wait for blood test results to check for abnormalities because the analysis machine was broken. I feel a little frustrated and in limbo. I wanted to start telling people but now not sure? I saw my nuchal measured 1.7mm but don't even know what this means!
OH says baby prob all fine. Scan certainly good. But should I wait before telling?

Dexlie0806 · 18/09/2015 16:16

Thanks mazzle I thought that was about right.

London that measurement is in the normal range. If u google nuchal fold (I know google can be the devil sometimes) it gives u the "normal" range of measurements. If our nuchal fold is within the "normal" range I will start to tell people before I get the official results back.

Dexlie0806 · 18/09/2015 16:17

And congrats on the great scan london.

PallasCat · 18/09/2015 16:43

Thanks for the advice, yeah it matched the description of round ligament/accommodation pain very closely. Rested, hot water bottle, warm bath, it decreased last night and I've been fine today.

Very nearly just got outed (by accident!) at work by one colleague who does know - she covered it up brilliantly though! Grin

Yay for your scan, London... don't really know about telling/waiting for full results. In a way I guess it depends on how you would proceed if there was significant risk. But since all is good on the nuchal fold you should certainly feel able to take confidence from that.

CarrotVan · 18/09/2015 16:55

1.7mm is great london. Here it's normal not to get blood results but to get a combined risk factor by post a week later.

FussyHendricks · 18/09/2015 17:50

What Carrot said. Here the blood and NT measurement get sent off to a lab where they combine with other factors such as age and come back with your risk factor. I'm expecting a letter in the post next week

Rinnyx · 18/09/2015 19:46

So my positive start to the day is not staying that way.
Called my mum to tell her the news, she was not happy, no congrats...she has never liked DP.
Feeling hurt but atleast DP's side of the family are happy and I have their support
