Kaybee7777 · 27/11/2006 10:43

LA - what hospital did you go to?? I only ask as one of the community midwives I have been seeing is called Khim and is chinese! Coincidence???

I really hope your LO arrives before your mum has to go. My Dad left on Sat so has missed out now
Fingers crossed things progress for you xx

calsworld · 27/11/2006 10:44

LA - as you say, all will happen in its own time...sorry that you're disappointed but glad to hear you're both doing fine, that's more important!

Relax and rest as much as you can as you can't be far away from meeting LO now... and I think I might tiptoe off and find that music, I'm sure I've got it on a CD somewhere...

Keep smiling,

Cal

calsworld · 27/11/2006 10:48

Has anyone else's appetite gone through the roof?

saralou100 · 27/11/2006 11:01

calsworld, mine!! i'm eating for a family of ten i'm sure!!

ladyanne, how disapointing... co-codiene and co-proxamol are effectively the same drug, a combination of paracetamol and codiene, the only difference is in the amounts of each drug within the tablet.. explains why you feel so rotten after taking it! on a positive note, sounds like your body is gearing up for the big day!

nat's being very quiet... hope it's because your having baby and not poorly with flu

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 27/11/2006 11:07

Kaybee - I'm in Plymouth - so Derriford - could be an interesting coincidence (she's quite senior there as well) Hope I get her next time - the other senior MW scares the living daylights out of me...

Calsworld - appetite is on and off - most of the time though I keep wanting to eat rubbish like chocolate and liquorice allsorts.

Feeling much better with the music blaring - mum's boss wishes me all the best so sounds like he might be a little lenient.

We'll go for our walk after the cd finishes hopefully the rain should have eased off then.

See ya all again soon - there's not many of us left now - so hugs to each of you.

LA

Kaybee7777 · 27/11/2006 11:23

LA big coincidence as I am in London, so def not the same woman!

Calsworld, my apetite did go through the roof but I think it's returned to normal-ish now

Am off to get some clary sage oil......

xx

DebbsyandBibby · 27/11/2006 11:29

oh lady ann what a shame perhaps your waiting for me we are both due today
seriously though take care and the very best of luck
i feel like poo had a bit of sickness and diahoerhea (bet your impressed with that bit of spelling arent you) its from my pharmacy days.
Yes coproxamol and codeine are very very similar coproxamol is just another stronger format of codeine x

calsworld · 27/11/2006 11:33

Debbsy,

Quick question then re drugs...is pethidine similar in origin / nature to morphine and codeine - coz they both make me sick....so wondering if pethidine will do the same? I've had enough of being sick throughout the pg without the labour as well!

My birth pool has just arrived - oooh, almost feel ready for a baby now!

I had noticed NJ's gone a bit quiet...as you say, hopefully either having LO or getting some much needed rest....

So far have had porridge and two slices of toast...tummy still rumbling...

Cal

DebbsyandBibby · 27/11/2006 11:39

cal they both fall under the same catagory of controlled drugs, morphine is more of an opiate so thats why it can create such hallucegenic affects.I personally prefer Pethadine ( i had a mixture of both when i was ill in hospital for 4 mths 3 yrs ago) the morphine used to make me very sick even given with a motillium injection(antisickness drug)so that would be my preference
hth xx
oh by the way ive just booked my side room at the hospital 29 squid a night thought it would be more expensive than that so well chuffed.

saralou100 · 27/11/2006 12:06

debbsy, very impressed with your spelling of DIARRHOEA! lol did the hospital tell you they still won't guarantee a side room even though you've booked? this is quite common! i get a free side room being nhs staff!! the only perk in my job!

calsworld, their all opiates of varying strengths and nausea and sickness is a very common side-effect unfortunately... maybe get a prescription of anti-sickness too? although i can appreciate this would be a major pita considering the fun you've had with scripts already!!

i had 4 slices of toast for breakfast today and still hungry!!

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 27/11/2006 12:22

Ooh I'm glad there are some folks on this with a bit of medical knowhow - doctors never really tell you the in and outs.

It's definitely Codeine I need to avoid then as this headache was way more severe then the one I had with the co-proxamol.

At the end of the day, I'll just have to weigh up the pain of labour with the side effects of the painkiller then... off for our walk now. Feel much better now, a few twinges and feeling like I need to poo often (TMI). Decided to just get on with the day and not think of it as 'due day'.

All the best

LA

Charleesunnysunsun · 27/11/2006 12:26

LA- I have a horrible time with painkillers especailly ones that contain Codine, I do;t get a headache though i get extremley sick.
I was give hydrocodiene for my SPD 3 days before DS was born i was sick for the whole of thoses 3 days! I feel for you i really do!

Hope things are kicking off for all of you!

saralou100 · 27/11/2006 12:30

hi charlee, how are you and harry getting on? i've been nosing on the post- natal thread (so ) saw you had a couple of down days.

please tel me the spd gets better straight after the birth, mine is really playing me up again and i'm getting p**d of now.

Charleesunnysunsun · 27/11/2006 12:35

My SPD completley dissapeard after the birth, in fact i hardly noticed in during labout as i was concentrating on my breathing and then pushing hopefully you will find the same.

Were all fine here, i had few down days i think it was just the 'baby blues' DS1 was playing up (only natural) and Harry was crying no stop (colic i think) and i generally felt like i was a crap mother who couldn't cope but i cried for a few hrs then brathed and made a plan of action.

I decided i may be slightly depressed becuase i live in the middle of nowhere and have no trasport except in the afternoons and i feel guilty about no taking the kids out and i myself have no RL friends. SO i have just brought a provisional liscence and im going to learn to drive (which i have been scared of for years!) to give me some freedom from this bloody house!
I have also made a routine and get the kids things ready at night so i can get them dressed and fed in the mornings without all the hassle.

Long post - must go now and feed the babies!

NatalieJane · 27/11/2006 12:38

Wow, you have all been busy on here today, sorry if I forget something, and apologies in advance for loooong post (I just know it is going to be!!!)

HM I know how you feel about your DH being so far away, my DH can be anything up to, well, he could be anywhere in the UK at anytime really, luckily most of his work is in the North. If it helps any, I really do think that labour will only happen when you relax enough to let it happen, so if you know DH is too far, your body won't let it happen until he is back
Cal I can't help re. the pethidine really, I hated it in my first labour, so I haven't asked for a prescription for it this time as I know I don't want it.
The pictures sound great, I have seen some lovely proffesional shots of bumps, if I wasn't covered in stretch marks I'd have had some done myself this time!
Re. the sheets/towels, I have enough plastic mating/shower curtains to cover the floor in both the living room (where the pool is going to be) and the dining room, which can be moved if I want to go in the kitchen, or upstairs, I have a pile of maybe 8-10 old towels, that are covered in paint etc. to put down over the plastic, mainly so it isn't slippy if it gets wet. The plan is to have the baby in the pool, he can then be taken out and be dried off and dressed by DH while I get out onto the old towels to deliver the placenta (that is the bit you need to think about, if you deliver it in the pool, the water is going to be very messy, will your DH be able to clean the pool well enough? Or obviously if you get out to deliver the placenta, then the floor is going to be messy, which the midwives will clear up!!) once we are all cleaned up and dry and everything, we have bought a cheap quilt just to lay down either on the floor or the sofa or something so we can all have a cuddle. The only other towels we will have about will be our normal towels for when we are getting out of the water, and for the midwife to dry herself with.
Kaybee Don't forget the bath can be just as effective for the pain relief as a pool, it may not be the best place to actually give birth, but for the relaxation durring the labour it is fine. Sorry it isn't going as you'd hoped/planned though. I was induced with my first and although it was a strong and hard labour, it wasn't anywhere near nightmareish, but if you really would rather not to be induced, you don't have to agree to be just because you are 10 days, even at 14 you can still refuse, if you wanted to.
And Cal is right, they say that orgasms can get it going, but I think you would need to be very practised in ahem... multiples.... the idea would be to keep at it until the uterus picks up on the contracting pattern of multiple orgasms. I think the best way is to have sex, let DH do his thing, then you have your turn. It would sound like good fun if you weren't 9 months pregnant, wouldn't it?!!!
Debbsy It can't be much longer now, was it Saturday night your waters started leaking? That will only give you till Wednesday night before they will have to induce you, they won't let you go over 96 hours after your waters go because of the increased risk of infection.
LA I am so sorry, I really do know how frustrating it is, but still there is nothing I can say that will make it any easier for you. Also, I know it isn't what you want to hear right now, but I know I'd have had someone warn me at the time, I have twice had midwives tell me that the labour would be soon, they were both wrong. Sorry, just thought you would like to know that it might not happen in their scheduled 3-5 days (though it is likely it will!) Fingers crossed your next post is announcing the new arrival

I am still sick Feeling really down and sorry for myself, DS is much better still laid up on the sofa, and still hasn't had a decent nights sleep or a proper meal yet, but he is definitely on the road to recovery. DH has it as well, but his hasn't fully kicked in yet, so I am looking forward to that because you can just imagine how much worse it will be for him!!

My contractions had comepletely stopped, but they are back again today with a vengeance, was a bit worried this morning that something was going to kick off afterall when I am still ill, but I think it is just my uterus reminding me it is still there when I realised it was only when I moved/sneezed/blew my nose/coughed etc. that the contractions were happening! So fingers crossed he is staying put for now.

Sorry again for long post

glad to see you back NJ! Wanted to ask you a question actually - re the show....I have now had show on and off for three days and as I know you have had one for a lot longer, I was wondering, should I be telling the hospital or does it really not matter unless its accompanied by contractions/waters breaking?

Today it has got worse, as it were, in that there is more of it, heavier and more jelly-like (maybe I am having a jelly baby too!) and is browny-pink (soooo sorry if TMI). I am just a bit unsure what it means........

fatbetty · 27/11/2006 14:02

Just wanted to drop a quick message to say that our little girl, Madeleine Elizabeth, has arrived!! She was born on Friday, the 24th at 5:15am. She was 7lbs 11oz. The birth was fairly quick and much easier than the previous 2! Was even home by 10:30am the same day. We are doing well and trying to get used to lack of sleep.

Hope you all are well and will try to catch up with everyone's posting soon.

staceym11 · 27/11/2006 14:09

staceym11 · 27/11/2006 14:10

fatbetty, well done and congratulations!!!

calsworld · 27/11/2006 14:13

Fatbetty, Big hearty congratulations to you - so pleased it went well and a lovely name too. Really lovely that you were able to go home so quickly too.

As you can see, we're all just twiddling our thumbs now and wondering how many of us are going to fall over into December.....ideally, we'll all go into labour together, then there won't be anyone sat talking to themselves!! (Its so going to be me, I'm not even due till Friday!!!!)

Cal

podglet · 27/11/2006 14:32

Congrats fatbetty - a lovely name and lucky you to be home so quickly - see you on the "other" side.

Still got everything crossed for the rest of you and really hoping things get going soon - we're going to have LOADS of babies arriving together!

Kaybee7777 · 27/11/2006 14:38

congratulations fatbetty

NJ thanks, I guess I will just have to make do with the bath if I can. Just bought some clary sage oil so off to massage my belly!

Still not too sure whether to go ahead with induction for wed or ring mw this afternoon and see if I can change to fri or thereabouts....

NatalieJane · 27/11/2006 14:56

HM, I would say as long as you've no reason to think there is an infection (i.e. it doesn't smell horrible, or your not running a fever or anything) then I would just take it as it comes with the show. It is a good sign of things starting to move, the show starts to come away as the cervix starts to soften and open, so it does literally 'show' something is happening.
FB, huge congratulations, it is lovely to read of the new arrivals, kind of gives me a reason to keep going!! LOL Sounds like a lovely birth experience - well done
Stacey, glad to hear all is well
Kaybee, I have found if you do the clary sage first, then get in the bath with another oil, maybe lavender or something, the smell goes a bit quicker! That clary sage is awful!!

Speaking of baths, that is where I am on my way to, only my second today! It is the only place my back gets any rest so I am practically living in it these days! Catch you all later xxx

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 27/11/2006 15:03

NJ yeah the smell is certainly potent! I literally had a show straight after massaging it on my belly - surely that's a good sign?!?!? Maybe he will arrive before I need to be induced

Enjoy your bath! I would have one but ours is too small and uncomfortable to be of any use.
