Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 36th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 35th grads fred is here.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 51st outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Here is the stats list, please update your own spot with any updates.

Purple you have a dream genii don't you? It doubles as feeding pillow - I use mine for feeding in bed

LaLaLaaaa · 05/08/2015 10:28

Otherwise I use one of our skanky £2 tesco cushions that used to be on couch. Both work well

batfish · 05/08/2015 11:08

Is this feeling of 'I'm about to burst' going to go away at some point? I don't look or feel particularly massive but my bump feels so tight and a bit sore! Still over 8 weeks to go!

5hell · 05/08/2015 11:11

carrot still no joy with EPU - have rung 4 times today, 2x engaged, 2x phone answered by ward who try to transfer me but then no-one answers at EPU!
i guess if i felt worse i would be more persistent, but no change in pg symptoms, still nauseas, boobs still (slightly) sore, mild backache, no more bleeding. Defo would like to at least get their opinion, even if not scanned etc.

sigh (again)

oneyorkshirepud · 05/08/2015 11:15

That's terrible 5hell, can you just turn up? Or can you call 111? They can make appointments for you at put of hours services so might be able to do the same at EPU? Or see your GP for a referral?

I might get one of those triangle pillow things to prop myself up in bed with. Our headboard has like a little shelf thing on the top so not v comfortable for sitting up in!

MrsTattoo · 05/08/2015 11:35

honey I'm the same with most smells at the moment, I have found that wrapping a scarf tightly round my face like a gas mask means I can open my own fridge most of the time!

5hell I vote for just turning up too. Better to put your mind at ease than sit at home getting stressed about it.

Ladies having read the lists of what I will be needing to buy, I have realised I really know nothing about keeping a human baby alive and DH knows even less! Confused
Any really good books/websites we should definately be reading?

Aufwiedersehenpetrarch · 05/08/2015 11:35

5hell yes to what pud suggested. Just turning up? Really sorry they are being so unhelpful! I didn't actually know that 111 can make appointments on your behalf! Interesting.

CarrotPuff · 05/08/2015 11:56

Oh 5hell this is outrageous Angry although good news on no bleeding.

Did you self refer last time? Could you ask your gp to refer you?

MrsTattoo human babies need surprisingly little to survive. They just need to be fed, changed and cuddled Smile

deeplybaffled · 05/08/2015 12:30

Hi viroids. Random question here - the health visitor came round yesterday and whilst generally very nice and positive, threw me a bit by saying that if i intended to BF in bed, during the night, I'd probably want to get rid of the memory foam mattress topper in case it made the baby too hot.
problem is that I've had a few back problems and the actual mattress itself isn't all that, so I'd rather keep it!
Does anyone else know if she was just being over cautious or is this a real problem? Obviously, i don't want to take unnecessary risks, but equally, don't want to do my back in either!
all advice gratefully accepted!

deeplybaffled · 05/08/2015 12:32

Oh, and 5hell - i agree that that is shocking. If you are worried, I'd definitely consider just turning up and explaining that you couldn't get through by phone.

Purpleball · 05/08/2015 12:38

5hell I'd just turn up too!

Deeply I've never heard of that. Maybe ask the grad grads?

Purpleball · 05/08/2015 12:39

Thanks for the cushion advice, I use the dream genii to prop me up when I sit up in bed. I will try a normal pillow though, we've loads of them! No cushions though- binned them when we moved in

Aufwiedersehenpetrarch · 05/08/2015 12:40

deeply Honestly don't know. Sure you don't want baby to overheat, but you with a bad back isn't going to make looking after it any easier. If it really really is an issue, maybe you can just open up the onesie to expose some skin while you feed? Gosh, I really don't know. Hmm

ThursdayLast · 05/08/2015 12:41

deeply I'd say you will know your baby best. If baby is too hot, then maybe you will have to. But you can dress baby appropriately so I don't think it would be a massive problem.

All HVs can do is raise your awareness so you can make your own decisions.

I've never heard of it being a 'thing' though.

CarrotPuff · 05/08/2015 12:54

deeply you can always undress the baby if need be. It will always be warmer with you in the bed than on its own in the cot, memory foam or not. FWIW my DS slept exclusively on me, including nights, and I promise I'm much hotter than memory foam! He was absolutely fine.

goodnessgraciousgouda · 05/08/2015 13:31

Hi Viroids. Things are not great here. Slept terribly monday night and had THE WORST headache/migraine ALL day yesterday. Every second of the day. I could do literally nothing. It wasn't there when I woke up, but has been coming back today as well. Not as cripplingly bad as yesterday, but still a bad headache. My shoe broke half way to the hospital earlier as well, so had to walk half barefoot on the DISGUSTING pavements.

I hate everything.

Overall I'm in a pretty fucking bad mood tbh. The only positives are that I now officially have a hospital to give birth in (registered!), rather than the gutter, and I could feel Mini me kicking about quite a lot last night.

5hell - I third turning up at the place. You have had an actual problem that needs checking out. You aren't just wasting their time with random paranoia or whatever!!!

Deeply - not sure, but some advice is this:

^Never place an infant to sleep on a couch, sofa, recliner, cushioned chair, waterbed, beanbag chair, soft mattress, pillow, synthetic or natural animal skins (such as lambskins), or other soft surface such as "memory" foam mattress toppers and pillows designed for adults.

Why? Sleeping on any of these puts the infant at great risk for suffocation as these items have high wedging and trapping potential. These risks are even greater when an infant sleeps with any other person on any of these surfaces^.

Maybe the MW was more concerned about falling asleep after feeding in bed with the memory foam, rather than heat per se. I guess the safest option would just be to just feed outside of the bed, no?

ThursdayLast · 05/08/2015 13:37

Ah well done gouda good researching. I'm sorry you're having such a shitty week so far Thanks

RhiannonElward · 05/08/2015 13:44

My God, I have missed so much! Am still catching up but need to place mark so I don't lose you. Off to do my homework, be back in a bit. Hope you're all doing okay Smile

honeysucklejasmine · 05/08/2015 13:45

Lord, I am glad I know people with children. I've seen babies sleeping blooming everywhere, even, shock horror, on their fronts and they have all been fine. I can't see how being placed in the middle of a sofa seat cushion is dangerous when they are too small to roll over. Common sense has to have a place in the world!

Aufwiedersehenpetrarch · 05/08/2015 14:14

gouda Flowers

goodnessgraciousgouda · 05/08/2015 14:15

honey yes, I guess it's the same as with every risk. Pretty sure the vast majority of women in history never took folic acid when pregnant, and plenty of women in older generations smoked and drank throughout the pregnancy/around babies and never had any problems either!

All government's/scientists can do is to give the best information they can on what is the ideal. If it's shown to cause unnecessary problems/death in only 15/200 babies, they still have to try and prevent though 15!

CountryGal4 · 05/08/2015 14:32

Viroids what can I expect from my first mw appointment next week (I'll be 8 +5)

oneyorkshirepud · 05/08/2015 14:45

Depends where you are Country, is it booking or pre-booking?

TriJo · 05/08/2015 14:53

What's likely to happen when I go to my GP tomorrow if I'm really not sure of my dates? All I know is that I had a negative blood test on July 8th and a 3+ on a CB digital yesterday.

mountaingirl01 · 05/08/2015 15:09

Tri - they will refer you to midwives and they usually do the rest at booking which is around 8 weeks. (They will roughly go by lmp) if your lucky the midwife will book you in for early scan to check dates - although this didn't happen for me Hmm congratulations!

Country - they will ask a million questions re your health and your dps and will refer you to the hospital of your choice (so have a think about where you want to give birth! ) if this is in a different county you many have to go there for another booking in and your bloods -otherwise they will do bloods tomorrow too. Take a wee sample!
