Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 36th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 35th grads fred is here.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 51st outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Here is the stats list, please update your own spot with any updates.

I am going to ask DH to get me some cereal before he goes because I still can't open the fridge or pantry without being sick. Poor DH went through the whole, rather large, pantry the other day. I was convinced there must be something rottung in there, but no. Just some herbs and spices smelling pungent (to me)

When does this super smelling nonsense end?

ThursdayLast · 05/08/2015 08:06

Oh yes now you mention it, those gros with little fold over mitts on the end were much more practical.

DS nails were really long when he came out (at 41+3 which probs had something to do with it!). I was practically comatose for a week and DH couldn't get his head around the biting them off thing. And the MWs wouldn't give us anything to do them with!
Anyways
Morning all!

Today I bake a Guinness cake and wrap a few little pressies. Then a friend and I are going to trot along a few miles on the coast path this evening Smile

Oh honey soon I hope, my house smells like death to me. And using the toilet fills me with dread.

oneyorkshirepud · 05/08/2015 08:17

Jelly, you do have to watch out for those basted self service tills Wink Do hope you feel better soon, bad moods suck.

Thursday that sounds like a lovely day! More DIY here, starting the hall, stairs and landing today. I have so much pain in my hair that I look quite grey....

Does anyone else feel as though their lower back is not attached to itself?! Mine just feels 'loose', Tis quite uncomfortable. I am going to try some yoga/swimming in order to strengthen it I think.

ThursdayLast · 05/08/2015 08:28

My lower back gets stiff rather than loose pud. I've been doing Pilates since DS was born and hope to continue as long as possible to prevent it getting worse. My posture goes and I end up sticking my bum out behind me which doesn't help!

CarrotPuff · 05/08/2015 08:28

Baby "essentials":

Transport

Car seat
Car seat base if needed
Pram
Sling (optional)

Sleeping
Cot/crib/moses basket/co-sleeper
Matress for the above
Fitted sheets (at least 2)
Blankets (3-4)
Baby sleeping bags if you plan to use them x2

Clothes
Sizing goes either
Newborn (7.5lbs) - Up to 1 Month (10lbs) - 0-3 Months
Or Tiny Baby (7.5lbs) - Newborn (10lbs) - 0-3 Months
Weight is your guide. Only because it says 7.5lbs doesn't mean they won't fit if you baby is slightly heavier - I found my DS still fitted into most clothes even if he exceeded weight limit.
If you know you are having a big baby you can skip the smallest size, but if unsure I would still get it. Maybe don't take it out of the packets in case it's too small.

I'd say you need:
Short sleeved bodysuits (AKA T-shirts with poppers) - 7-10 in each size
Don't buy long sleeved ones, it's hard to put 2 long sleeved layers without one sleeve riding up. They can be useful when you start putting baby in dungarees or sleeveless dresses, but you can always invest in those later if you see the need.
Babygros (onesies) - 7-10 in each size
A couple thin hats
One or two thick outdoor hats
A few cardigans
Socks - yes babygros have them but sometimes if it's chilly you might want to put a bit extra on their feet.
Something for outside - i.e. snowsuit
Don't buy any cute outfits. You'll be given loads.

Feeding
I'm sorry I don't know much about FF. I guess you'd need formula, bottles+teats and a steriliser.
If BF
BF bras
LANSINOH
Breast pads
Muslins (we had about 20, which was about enough, but DS was a very sicky baby. You might want to start with 10 and get more later if needed)
You might get a couple of bottles jic.
I would say don't buy a pump until later on if you decide you want to express. For me expressing was a faff tbh.
Some people buy ready made cartons of formula if there are issues with bfing - I didn't though.

Changing
Changing mat (we also put kitchen roll on it so that it's not too cold for baby to lie on and also clean up excess poo)
Nappies - a couple packs of size 1 and 2
Cotton wool and cotton pads - pads are much better for cleaning their bum
Baby wipes if you plan to use them
Nappy barrier (i.e. Sudocream)
Nappy rash cream (i.e. Bepanthen or Metanium)

Playing
Bouncer
Play mat with dangling toys
Don't buy any toys, you'll probably be given loads. Newborns are not really interested in toys to begin with. If you really want to, you can buy black and white book with lines and faces - they like to look at those.

Bathing
Baby bath and/or bath support. You can wash your baby in a sink, but unless you have a huge sink they will grow out of it pretty quickly
Hooded towels - not essential but v useful. Ikea do really good ones.
Sponge (optional)
If you want to use some kind of baby wash/bubble bath, get a soap free one. Def not J&J. We use Oilatum but it's quite expensive.

Misc
Ear thermometer (optional)
Baby scissors
Brush
Dummies if you plan to use them (I would get a couple even if not, you never know, they might save your sanity)
Calpol

I think this is it!

oneyorkshirepud · 05/08/2015 08:53

That is awesome, thanks so much Carrot! And surprisingly doesn't seem to overwhelming at this stage - will write it all down, ta muchly.

pretzelpieces · 05/08/2015 08:55

Thanks carrot that's so helpful!

chat, Thursday nice plans Smile

I'm knackered today after sleeping rubbish. My lower back usually clicks in and out due to bendy jointedness and now I'm preg it's settled for hurting all the damn time.

Off to training where I will be giving presentations while half asleep. Might try that thing of painting eyes on my eyelids and snoring and see if anyone notices the difference Wink

There have been two BFPs on undergrads. TriJo and Pickle Grin

SecondCupOfTea · 05/08/2015 09:08

Two BFP's on the undergrads in 24 hours....they're off again! Grin

SecondCupOfTea · 05/08/2015 09:10

learns to hit refresh before writing the same thing as the previous poster Hmm

ThursdayLast · 05/08/2015 09:13

Yay! Some April babies Smile

honeysucklejasmine · 05/08/2015 09:15

Lol Tea!

Purpleball · 05/08/2015 09:17

Amazeballs Carrot, thanks so much. La had a list from ages ago that I meant to dig out.
We've actually got pretty much everything. Or we will have by the weekend. You've reminded me of nail scissors. Someone said to bite them off but I feel a bit weird about it

Aufwiedersehenpetrarch · 05/08/2015 09:17

Yay for BFPs! Brilliant news!
Can I add to carrot's list? Generally food that will only require a fork (e.g. meatballs, not steak), ready-meals, the numbers of all your favourite take-outs on speed dial, biscuits biscuits biscuits, tea bags galore, thermos flask, pre-prepared salads, fruit which doesn't leak or require two hands, and chocolate.
Don't bother buying shampoo. You won't be washing your hair for at least a month.

Purpleball · 05/08/2015 09:19

I've got feeding cushion on my list, to get baby into the right position for BF. I quite like the clevamama one but it's expensive

Woohooo for more BFPs Grin

Aufwiedersehenpetrarch · 05/08/2015 09:28

I liked my feeding cushion purple although somehow it was always up to DC about whether or not it suited on a particular day. Hmm I ended up mostly bf-ing lying down sideways when we were at home which was great for catching up on sleep, helped lots with DC's acid reflux, and meant that if DC fell asleep after feeding I didn't have to bother moving either of us and risk waking the mite. TBH I sometimes even bf lying down when I was in public Shock you lose all sense of propriety after a couple of days and just go with what is comfy and works

honeysucklejasmine · 05/08/2015 09:30

Oh, infacol! I've heard of the miracles it can achieve before they are allowed calpolm

Purpleball · 05/08/2015 09:35

Thanks auf, also added infacol Smile

oneyorkshirepud · 05/08/2015 09:45

Awesome, I have written down the list and I am using it to freak out DH haha

ThursdayLast · 05/08/2015 09:56

I would wait til after babes born for feeding cushion. They are ridiculous expensive and often a pillow dies just as well! Like auf I fed lying down in early day, which for us helped DS deal with my massive over supply.

CarrotPuff · 05/08/2015 10:11

Glad to be of service. Bows

I only put on what I think is important. You obviously can get more things if you feel you need them. I.e. we didn't get a changing table but we were given one later on and found it useful. But we could have equally done without.

I would wait on feeding pillows. I didn't use any pillows at all, I was more comfortable just cradling DS. You can always use your regular pillows and if you find you prefer feeding your DC on a pillow but regular ones are not v comfy then I would get one. Although a v shaped pillow is quite useful when DC is learning to sit!

Yay for more BFPs! I think viroids over at JSing will have to start recruiting soon Hmm

5hell did you get through to EPU? I hope you're ok Flowers

Aufwiedersehenpetrarch · 05/08/2015 10:11

thursday yes! I'd completely forgotten that I had an oversupply and super fast flow as well. Weird how that just slipped my memory and that was the very reason I lay down to feed in the first place! Grin
I even tried getting the local hospital to take some of my milk for donations but apparently only certain hospitals can do that? They need a special donation unit or something? Does anyone (mountain maybe?) know if this is true? I'd really like to do it this time around if I can. I've had some friends with preterm babies and some of them rely on donated breastmilk because they either haven't been able to produce yet or because they were on meds due to the circumstances of birth and couldn't bf until finished. Mind the only time I tried to express with a machine I got mastitis. That was fun Hmm
purple I wish I could take credit for the infacol, but it was honey. I've only ever stuffed calpol and infant ibuprofen down DC's throat. Am now wondering if I should buy infacol?

Aufwiedersehenpetrarch · 05/08/2015 10:15

We always just changed DC on the dining room table. Hmm But I also change DC on the floor in family-type restaurants if they don't provide a baby changing area because serves them right for thinking people with babies don't want to eat out, so maybe I'm just weird

jellypi3 · 05/08/2015 10:26

i've just copied the list down too! :D
