Maybe this will really be the last one... until the postnatal one.

Congratulations BM! I knew there was a good reason you hadn't been around. Does that mean MIL is on her way home? Two reasons to celebrate, eh?!

Shell, you're in the right place. Re. the engagement thing - I was 2/5 engaged two weeks ago but today it's free floating again. I think they do bob in and out. The other explanation is that your doc was mistaken and it wasn't engaged, most drs aren't that experienced at palpation, unlike mws. I get the occasional feeling that something is banging on my cervix that makes me stop in my tracks, I'm sure it's baby's head, which my mw agreed with. If you're really worried, check with your mw but it's probably everything limbering up for birth!

Had some good news today - saw the mw and she thinks that if I am late then they will look at induction at new year, rather than the full 12 days, as baby is still on the big side. I'm just hoping the mws will be the ones to make the decision, rather than having to go through the consultant. So I may not be last!!

weirdbird · 13/12/2006 21:06

Congratulations BM and welcome to Dylan, am very

Am still having contractions, went for a nice walk by the river today and they did get really strong, but stopped again as soon as we got home, am starting to feel like I won't just be pregnant forever but that I will be in labour forever as well....

DH is now worried we will be so blase about me having contractions that we definitely won't make it to the Hospital in time

See the MW in the morning so hoping she will tell me I am at least starting to dilate.

babypowder · 13/12/2006 22:24

Wow - just catching up on all the babies and news! I'm still pregnant (only 6 days to CS though!), so thoroughly of all the new babies.
I've been laid really low ever since I stopped work on the 1st. Developed a really nasty ENT infection, so ended up on antibiotics, and now I'm on crutches thanks to horrendous SPD. It wasn't like this with DD! Still, it'll be worth it in the end. It's hilarious that I've stayed off coffee, alcohol, peanuts, etc for 9 months and suddenly I'm popping penicillin and painkillers like there's no tomorrow. Ho hum.
Hope everyone manages to get some sleep tonight

northernmama · 13/12/2006 23:00

AAAARRRGGGHH!!!!! Saw my OBS today and NOTHING IS HAPPENING!!!!!!! Am so depressed... even though I have a week to go I feel like I just can't stand it anymore!!

Hubby goes away tomorrow, and is supposed to be gone the whole weekend... do you suppose this baby is waiting for that? Wouldn't it be great if my labor coach couldn't actually get to the labor!!!

Oh dear God, that means my mum (lovely but not always very helpful) or my MIL have to take his place. I'm going to go breathe into a paper bag and calm down!!!!

northernmama · 13/12/2006 23:01

HOORAY for BaileysMilkshake!!!!!!! Well done, super mum!!

Love the name -- Dylan is on our short list and my hubby's current favorite!

Hope you're feeling well and recovering OK!!

jabberwocky · 14/12/2006 02:50

Congratulations BM!!

I'm with satinshoes. Even though it's only for a couple of hours at a time, I'm still getting better sleep than my last trimester. Dh can vouch for the turning over groans.

spinasnowflake · 14/12/2006 10:48

congrats BM. We suspected you were off having a baby.

Love his name. (DH came home yesterday and at dinner table suggested a perfect middle name for our LO..Only thing is it's the middle name I suggested WEEKS ago that he said he didn't like!! men!I told him I'd already suggested that and his response..."Sorted then".)So now name is fixed(bar Beanie just NOT looking like a *),I'm all ready to go!

Woke up having the very mildest of ctx(but they turned into nothing.Boo!) I also have the stinging/cervix/head bouncing thing and I keep trying to will the discomfort to turn into labour(Naughty me.I've burnt clary sage a few times)I asked my dr if they could start something off(ripen cervix) if not be the start of something. He said only actual tightenings would be worth getting excited about.Double Boo!

Anyway another day of "time to myself", so plan for today is marzipan Xmas cake(did my cranberry sauce yesterday-quite proud of it actually)and go for a VERY long walk!

Thank you all for your support as I lost my mind over the last few days! I've slept a lot better (only 5 or 6 awakenings!) and feel a lot better knowing I'm not the only mummy struggling with one and a half kids at moment! It's good to share. Now if I could just get my LO out into the world.

All I want for Xmas is cracked nipples(can't be any worse than this heartburn!)

BaileysMilkshake · 14/12/2006 11:08

Good luck to all those of you still waiting.

Dylan is a little angel, very relaxed and contented - although not being used to little boys I had my first very personal shower from him today

He got stuck behind my bowels so labour was longer than it should have been. But once I went - which is not easy with your DH, MW and student MW in the room, I literally felt him drop and then he was there within about 20 minutes. Pushing was harder though, and cord was wrapped twice round his neck, not to mention knotted! But none of it was tight so he was okay. Had some meconium but apart from a sickly first 24 hours - no ill effects.

Am combined breast and bottle feeding which is going well. Catch up more later!

castlesintheair · 14/12/2006 16:04

Congratulations BM. Lovely news.

spinasnowflake · 14/12/2006 18:31

BM, am I right in thinking Dylan was an hour short of your DMs birthday? Thinking of you. Hope yesterday was ok.

pedilia · 14/12/2006 18:33

good choice of name BM- DS2's name

MardyBum · 14/12/2006 18:50

Congratulations to BM! Fab news.

Am two days overdue and dd has come down with a terrible cough and cold, so am almost hoping baby doesn't come any time soon in case she comes down with it too. My dd is being very clingy and crying a lot, and just wants to cuddle while she's feeling grotty. Trouble is her elbows dig into my tum and she wants to be picked up and carried all the time so I'm getting a bit overwrought and teary as I'm finding it difficult to be a proper mum to her. So anyone else struggling to cope with their toddler, it's not just you!

I can't sleep either, my SPD makes getting out of bed after lying down agony, so I'm propped up on gazillions of pillows and sleeping in fits and starts throughout the night. Feeling a bit sorry for myself!

At least all those of us who have had enough of waiting and feel we can't take much more know that our babies will be here within the next couple of weeks. Then I sure we'll find a whole new set of things to complain about!!

accessorizechristmas · 14/12/2006 20:32

Welcome to Dylan, well done BM!! You must be so pleased he's here at last, how's your dd taking it?
To all still awaiting babes, enjoy the last few days of freedom and calm as I can't believe how much havoc a newborn creates! We have done nothing all week, I'm still unable to walk/drive do much of anything . Xmas presents remain unbought, and we're having birthday party for ds1 on Sunday without any idea how we're going to do it. Thank god for my dp, he's been a tower of strength. Despite the stitches thing, though, I am absolutely loving Elliot, he's just beautiful and does that thing with his mouth you think is smiling (but know it can't be this early!), can't wait for him to wake up really. Can't believe how bonded I feel with him this early, so different to before and wonderful
and to whoever mentioned femepads, they are a lifesaver, I hunted them down a couple of days ago and they're the only thing that makes the pain bearable!

northernmama · 15/12/2006 05:43

Still pg and hubby has gone for weekend... so far so good. I never thought I wouldn't want this baby to arrive, but this weekend, I don't want this baby to arrive.

Once I finally got comfortable, I managed to catch a few good hours of sleep, but never changed position once so really paid for it when I got up.

Thank goodness the kids have been absolute angels today -- I really needed that!

northernmama · 15/12/2006 06:03

Well, it's 11 pm here in Canada, and I'm off to bed to hopefully catch a few good hours. My son is sick with a bad cold, and is getting 2 molars to boot so who knows!!

Man, speaking of colds, has anyone else had a doozy of a cold and not been able to shake it? I feel like I've been sick a month. I'm surprised I haven't coughed this baby out my belly button yet!

Will try to get on the thread at a time when others are also on!!

Hope everyone has slept well or is in labour!!

pedilia · 15/12/2006 07:55

well I have been having strong but very well spaced contractions since about 4am so fingers crossed things are imminent.

Or if anyone is like me you wish and wish that things would hurry up and as soon as that pain starts you wish you could wait a bit longer

dublindee · 15/12/2006 09:46

Hi Everyone
Just getting a chance now to post a few messages and say CONGRATS To:

Beaker
Judemum
Satinshoes (you got there first in the end!! Xmas Smile
and
Baileys

I got to the hospital between 3:30 and 4:00 Saturday afternoon and was admitted to Labour Ward. When they examined me I was 2cm dilated and in "latent" phase of labour. They did a trace of baby's heartbeat during contractions but as he was moving so much they couldn't get a good read out. They asked me to wait for a few hours so they could try later (skip to 9pm when it FINALLY went on!). 9:50pm I was taken off the tracer and told my labour could stop and start over next 24hrs so we went home to try to wait it out comfortably. We were only back a half an hour when I turned to DP and said "I need to go back". We got to the hospital (again) at 12:15 and after lots of gas and air and one dose of Pethadine, baby Christopher made his entranceat 02:55 on his due date 10th dec weighing 8lb 5ozs and 54cms in length. Much easier in some ways and much harder in others than with DS1 but he's a beaut and he's already totally won us all over.

Sorry for long post but I've been suffering withdrawal symptoms!!!

accessorizechristmas · 15/12/2006 21:08

Congrats dublindee and welcome to Christopher! I know what you mean about being won over, we feel the same about ds2, keep gazing at him...
Still too sore to sit here for long, and got to finish the tesco order for ds1's party on Sunday (what was I thinking?!) that I am far too knackered to do anything about much less attend. Hey ho, off to feed ds2 again, he's caught up to his birth weight & passed it already at 9 days!

satinshoes · 16/12/2006 10:13

Congratulations Dublindee

MardyBum · 16/12/2006 10:21

Congratulations Dublindee!

I am still pg, 4 days overdue and counting...

jabberwocky · 17/12/2006 03:37

This thread has gone verrry quiet. Maybe babies are popping out all over

spinasnowflake · 17/12/2006 10:03

still pg.

nothing more to report. Tried to post on friday but pc swallowed up message.

good luck to all of you in labour!

pedilia · 17/12/2006 10:33

also still pg and enjoying the calm before the storm!!

Calmriver · 17/12/2006 10:36

WB-where are you???

spinasnowflake · 17/12/2006 10:46

I'm giving Mission Bring Baby On a few more goes then I'm going to sit back and let nature takes it's course. (did the sex last night-what a nightmare. How we actually managed it with this HUGE bump I still don't know!) I've posted on childbirth about Caulophyllum.I bought it last week and it sounds like it's quite effective if you're ready to go, but I'm getting a bit "chickeny" now. What if babe isn't ready to make an entrance(or is that exit) Part of me firmly believes he'll pop out when he's ready and I might just need 42 weeks to bake them fully.I also foolishly think that if I was due at any other time than Xmas I'd be really rational about this and wouldn't be trying to self induce
