Maybe this will really be the last one... until the postnatal one.

AQ - I could not stand the thought of my DC being anywhere without me overnight. Although when admitted to hospital obvisously we were apart - but with DH is different.

I cannot comment on what anyone does with thier children as to be honest I am probably the oddment - I just feel so unable to let go - getting better with DD though, I let her go to pre-school without me and have upped it to 3 times a week from January - trust me this was a huge thing for me to do and comsumed manyhours of my cousellors time!

What annoys me about the MIL/SIL situation is that my SIL has spent over time, hours on the phone to me telling me how dirty she thinks MIL house is and complaining about our IL's in general - but as soon as she wants a night out she is more than happy to forget those comments (things have not changed at MIL's in terms of the state of the house) and leave her DC's (DC1 - 2yrs, DC2 - 8wks) there over night.

Add to that my MIL round her house everyday - but has been unable to come and stay here when we were desperate and I jsut get so fed up - but will bite my tongue as MIl has finally dained to come and stay to watch DD while I have hospital birth.

Another northerner!! (Tho living in South now) but in York monthly to visit parents. Jude - re Santa issue, Fenwicks always used to be really good.

BaileysMilkshake · 27/11/2006 15:37

by the way AQ - last nights dinner....was completely out of tims - I mean it the whole lot. Stewed stead, tinned spuds, tinned carrots and tined peas. It took 5-10 minutes to "cook" and similar to eat and I have to say it was delish - and all the better for not having stood over it for the best part of an hour!

Just come back from MW - dont know why I went she did'nt measure bump and everything else was fine. Anyone else got urine saples that look like lemon squash??

Bumps heart beat seemed quite slow to me she said about 130 - and was happy with this. Please baby come out now!

northernmama · 27/11/2006 16:04

Judemum: Yep northern Canada (a colony girl!) - up to my knickers in snow already!!!

judemum · 27/11/2006 16:10

Northernmama- had an almighty braxton hicks reading about standing in snow and knickers
Milkshake- my baby's hearbeat also seemd very slow last time around, but I think it does slow down nearer the time they are going to be born??
Ay up Beepbeep- thanks for the tip re. fenwicks- might give it a go this weekend unless I have the energy to go further afield.
Quite nice to know a few northerners on this link- all that talk of london was making me miss all my mates down south...

northernmama · 27/11/2006 16:18

Was up almost all night last night.... have no idea why - I mean finally no BH's at night, less heartburn than usual.... so why was I up for so long for NOTHING??!!

I think I'm going crazy! Baby is not moving as much as before, and I am obsessing about it. I did the counting movements thing and it was fine 13 in an hour, but it just doesn't seem enough. Plus I am measuring small and so my OBS wants that baby to stay in right till 40 weeks.

I'm not working anymore either so have too much time to think about all kinds of useless clap too...

northernmama · 27/11/2006 16:19

too funny JM!!!!!

northernmama · 27/11/2006 16:22

I love snow, but being this off balance, it has its moments where I think I'm gonna fall and still be on the ground 4 hours later. Plus my daughter wants to ski and she only wants me to help her (because I'm supermum) and I can't even reach down to tie up my shoes and breathe let alone go shooshing down the slopes.

In fact, I doubt I'll get the chance to ski at all this year..... aahh, the things we sacrifice for our little people!

northernmama · 27/11/2006 16:25

Yesterday took kids for a santa parade downtown. Took some friends too, and were the kids ever good!!! They had a blast and got awfully sticky eating candy canes!

northernmama · 27/11/2006 16:32

Gonna knock off just now - while its almost suppertime there, here it's 9:30 am -- i've gotta get the kids dressed and head to the market before I'm totally out of energy... oh wait, I'm already there!!!

Will check in later if time allows... DC1 off to school this aft. and DC2 naps at the same time. Yep that's right girls, be jealous, I do get about 1 hour a day where I have only my own thing to do!!

jabberwocky · 27/11/2006 17:22

hello everyone, I'm back!

Well, I never made it to my appt last Wed to recheck bp. Water broke at 10:30 Tuesday night. We called OB and got to the hospital at midnight.

After emergency section, lo was born at 2:45 am wed nov 22. Turns out that I had developed toxemia fairly suddenly. Between my bp and lo's preemie status (mainly nillirubin/jaundice) we wound up staying there until yesterday afternoon.

We are both doing better now just really tired.

Stats

Kiernan Finley Rose
5 pounds 3 1/2 ounces
17 inches long

He lost about 1/2 a pound in the hospital so we are working hard to get weight back up. He did gain a 1/2 oz the last day so we figure loss has now stabilized and we are on are way back up.

Will post more later - going to take a nap now

jabberwocky · 27/11/2006 17:23

oops, billirubin

one-handed typing now...

weirdbird · 27/11/2006 17:36

Aww Congratulations on Kiernan's safe arrival Jabber!!

Sorry to hear about all the trauma xxx

Carameli · 27/11/2006 17:49

aw congrats Jabberwoky, thats great you are both k after all that. Thts such a lovely name

castlesintheair · 27/11/2006 18:06

Hooray Jabber, I thought something had happened! Congratulations on the safe, though slightly early arrival, of Kiernan. I hope the emergency wasn't too traumatic for you. Got a little lump in my throat, I'm really happy for you . Take it easy now and look after YOU as well as your LO.

magnolia1 · 27/11/2006 18:10

Wow!!!!! Congrats Jabber and well done on the arrival of baby Kiernan
How many weeks were you when you had him?

Indith · 27/11/2006 18:32

Congrats Jabber!

The avalanche is getting under way!

accessorizequeen · 27/11/2006 19:14

Jabber, that's fantastic, I'm so glad you and Kiernan both home now, wonderful news! Please post more when you're up to it, I hope you're able to process the emergency section after all your planning & the shaking was contained B/feeding any better this time round??
Northernmama, sounds wonderful over there, but can't imagine trying to ski either (I'm not wearing socks today as couldn't reach feet...). Lived in Vancouver for a while when I was 8, I still remember it and DP (fiance) and I want to honeymoon in Canada eventually - long held dream!
Baileys (I gave in and bought some, waiting until ds goes to bed...) I think it is v.different for different mums, different tolerance levels I guess. After 3 years, I feel a real pull after about day and a half to get back to him (he's gone away with his dad for several weekends over summer). In the beginning, 15 mins would do it! Guess your SIL more like me than you, I whinge about my MIL but still send ds up there now & again. I'm a better mother to him (and partner to dp) after a break and going to work. As many different mothers as there are babies, I hope you're able to manage with your MIL there. And I'm so relieved to hear of your tinned dinner! DS had big lunch at nursery so I was quite happy to do tuna on toast plus corn on the cob for his tea and so was he...

satinshoes · 27/11/2006 19:18

Congratulations Jabber on the birth of Kiernan

BaileysMilkshake · 27/11/2006 19:46

Jabber - so pleased for you and Keirnan both to home safe and sound! Congratulations!

AQ - MIL has just phoned t brag about her weekend looking after the 'other' grandchildren!! She sounds as happy to be coming up to stay with us as we are to have her.

On the other hand took a parcel in for our neighbour today and when I popped it round earlier she made sure we had their number and made me promise to call on her if it was the middle of the night! Told her about MIL and she said to cancel her as she would be happy to help tempting, but even I couldnt be that mean to MIL - although give a me a few days in her company and I will reassess that thought!

By the way - could;nt help myself and made another batch of soup tonight - cooking s my nesting thing this time I think! Apple crumble tomorrow - have promised DH and now he keeps meanfully prodding the large bag of cooking apples in the kitchen!

babypowder · 27/11/2006 21:01

Northernmama, are you in Alberta? (The time difference is right, but suppose you could be in Sask or Yukon). I grew up in Alberta, and my folks still live there. It's damned cold there just now! (Why that should be news is beyond me I'm just a softy now)

Sorry 'bout the hijack. I'll get caught up with the rest of the thread now.

jabberwocky · 27/11/2006 21:02

Hi again, we're up from our nap and ds2 is feeding nicely. The c-section actually went quite well, even thouogh it was emergency. My OB was on call which was amazing!!! I was so happy to hear her voice when I called in. The woman who did my anesthesia had had a traumatic first birth so she was extra careful. They used extra warm blankets for the shivering and it never got as bad as the first time around. I also had nausea like before so they propped up one side and gave me oxygen. It worked great.

OB looked up in the middle of surgery and said "Well done for not trying for VBAC. the cord was wrapped around his neck 3 times!"

All in all, I was actually very satisfied with the surgery. The team was thoughtful and considerate throughout. I had some initial problems with the nursery staff but they soon discovered that I was not taking any crap from them about seeing the baby when and as much as I wanted. There was, unfortunately, a 6 hour break between surgery and bfing which no one ever gave me a straight answer about. so it took a bit to get feeding established. He's doing well now although he won't take the right side unless I wear a nipple shield - it's a bit flatter there But, the upside to an extended stay in hospital is that I got to have lactation consultants in every day. Very useful.

babypowder · 27/11/2006 21:07

Jabber, HUGE congratulations on the birth of Kiernan. Hope you're doing well.

castlesintheair · 27/11/2006 21:12

That's brilliant Jabber, really pleased it's going well for you. Interesting what you say about sickness - they tilted me with DD (no.2) & gave me extra oxygen. I always wondered why they did that. Now I know! I found being in hospital for a bit longer helped establish b'feeding with her especially without the added stress of lots of visitors like I had with DS. This time I hope to stay for 4 nights minimum purely to achieve the same (or better) results.

It's easier 2nd time round isn't it? More work but everything else falls into place especially as you know what you are doing and don't stand for any cr**

jabberwocky · 27/11/2006 21:13

Thanks babypowder - and the rest of you. Being on this thread has been such a wonderful experience. Wish I had known about MN when pg with ds1.

So, I can now add my experience to the list of those who say that recovery from c-section is definotely better when you have not labored first!

Did eli have her section on Friday? I couldn't even begin to catch up on all the posts today.
