Well. I think we might have weaned.

We are still home poorly, and so I have been giving in to pleas for milk mum when they might lead to naps. This afternoon, after a very cursory attempt to latch on, DS asked "why is there no more milk inside?". We had a chat about how now that he is a big boy, the milk has stopped coming (and yes, when the baby is born it will come back for him/her, and yes, he can still drink milk in a cup), and he seems mildly disappointed, but accepting, and this evening went to sleep in my arms, in BF position, but no boob! Not sure if it will last!

I am discombobulated.

As you said- it's a bit of a shock to find that they are ready.

Oh Grubby! It may be temporary or maybe not. I find it helps to take it day by day and focus on the good things-you know he can fall asleep with you there but not bf which will be enormously helpful. Hopefully he's feeling a bit better too x

Sorry for the long absence, congratulations to Pear!! I am finding it interesting to hear about weaning attempts. DS is 25 months, still feeding a few times in the day (when I'm not working), feeding at bedtime and when he wakes up (maybe 1-3 times per night). I have tried introducing other milks and they were embraced at first, though not really as an alternative to feeding, but the novelty seems to have worn off now... I am quite possibly delusional but am now feeling like at this stage (25 weeks), when DS has not been put off at all by the drop in supply etc, it is better to keep feeding and have it as a tool to comfort when the baby arrives than try to wean... just wish I knew someone in real life who had been through this!

Heh sorry we rather monopolised the thread for a while there! Your ds sounds just like mine last month and now he doesn't bf at all, he weaned so suddenly! It's hard not knowing what will happen over the coming weeks but it's good to be prepared for either event. I'm rather worried about losing the bf tool and about jealousy when the baby arrives but I'm not opposed to starting up again if he asks, although I'm rather enjoying not being attached all night long!

GrubbyWindows · 27/01/2016 11:02

Yes, exactly the same here- my DS just stopped at 20 weeks pregnant (he's 34months...) last week, in the middle of being ill of all times. He asked a few times, and when I said "there isn't any, remember?" He's just asked for milk in a cup instead. He even let DP put him to bed with me in the other room one night! (But just one night, ho hum).
He has asked if he can have milk again when the baby comes, and I've said I don't see why not, but that the baby needs to have lots and lots since she won't be able to eat anything else. So I'm open to tandrming, but I don't think I'll be too sad if it doesn't happen...

Any ladies from the recent TTC whilst BFing/recently weaned gang fancy reinvigorating this thread?

Pumkinpie1 · 27/09/2016 12:08

I'm up for it lullaby ! Recently weaned 4 + 5 today

lullaby23 · 27/09/2016 15:52

Yeah pumkin! We need to round up some more of the grads for chat.

I am 5+4 so only just ahead of you. Scan booked for 7 weeks so will see if EDD is adjusted currently 26.05.

Pumkinpie1 · 27/09/2016 16:13

Is it a private scan you have booked at 7 weeks ?
I am in two minds wether to have one at 8 weeks or wait until the nhs 12 week scan

lullaby23 · 28/09/2016 04:58

I'm overseas so it's a private healthcare system. I am going to see my doctor who will see you from 7/8 weeks if you want

Pumkinpie1 · 28/09/2016 10:07

Aww that makes sense, we had a private scan of my first at 8 weeks as I was worried n couldn't wait till 12 weeks.
Let us know how ur scan goes!

lullaby23 · 28/09/2016 11:26

I will! I know I'm quite lucky being able to get regular scans, DH's work medical insurance covers us otherwise it would be £££!

Pumkinpie1 · 04/10/2016 22:44

That's good then, wish we had a private health care plan. Nothing wrong with NHS don't get me wrong, I work in the NHS but be nice to have more scans etc
