romeo and nicnic that is my fear, but i have a friend with a puegot (306??) that has managed to find 3 narrow ones so I'm going to borrow her seats to test. I don't want to spend any money on a car as we're saving for an extension!

kep i used a medela pump n style, which was american - i'm not sure what the equivalent uk model is. but it was brilliant, had no problems with it at all, and you could get spare tubes/shields/valves so you could get second hand and replace those parts.

spydie · 23/07/2015 13:32

I had to stop taking my multi supplement as I ended up so constipated! As in, for daaaayyyssss!! Blush and the tesco version of pregnacare was worse for me. My GP advised I only needed it until 12 weeks (now 13+5) so I stopped it a few days prior to the 12 week point.

I don't have any bump yet, people are starting to make me feel slightly abnormal as they keep commenting!

Here's my 12 week (12+4) scan, had mixed opinions on gender so far but husband is a family of boys boys boys, so expecting boy!

Just back from seeing the mw. Got to hear the little heart whooshing away Grin. Apparently my iron levels are on the low side to I've been told to eat lots of red meat! And a nice surprise, no bloods this time.

I was so sure I'd figured out what to do with cots, prams, Moses baskets, co-sleepers etc, now I realise I don't have a clue! At least we've got plenty of time to make our minds up. I suppose we could start out without the co sleeper and then if bf is successful, buy one.

SleepyDragon · 23/07/2015 13:40

Romeo are you UK? (i can't see you on the stats sheet so apologies)

if so and DH doesn't do people carriers have a look at the Mitsubishi ASX Crossover. We've had ours for 3 years and i adore it. Its a bigger car and can easily fit 3 'big' adults in the back so should be room for 3 seats.....

MissMartin10 · 23/07/2015 13:44

thanks for answering kep I've always been curious! Smile

my mw said everyone in our area gets a listen at 16w app.. mine appt is later on again and isn't until I'm 17w6d! but i supose its different in each area..

mrschatty with you being in manchester also which hospital are you going to?

i too want a double pump so dp can feed and bond with the baby.. i love giving babies bottles so to think he couldn't do it if i just bf all the time makes me feel like im taking away from him.. He's so excited its sooo lovley to see! Smile

lutrinae · 23/07/2015 13:58

kep I loved the Medela Swing, only one that worked for me really.

moonshine I did cloth nappies for about 9 months with DS but then started getting leaks, though it may have been because of detergent build up. I might try again for this one, the thought of the nappy landfill fills me with horror!

I don't mind that they show different types of births on OBEM and I know they need a bit of drama in the back stories, what annoys me most is seeing so much intervention and so many women giving birth lying down on their backs. Argh! Really not a great position to birth in. Also you never see any breastfeeding even though a prompt latch is best.
But at least there is someone showing women giving birth.

lutrinae · 23/07/2015 13:59

However I couldn't really get anything out by pumping until I went back to work.

Oysterbabe · 23/07/2015 13:59

spydie I think girl! Smile

Yokyil · 23/07/2015 14:01

We're now wondering what to do re:Moses basket - like the look of the Co-Sleeper but the price is sorta putting me off, when the Moses baskets are roughly £40 Shock so a lot cheaper!
T minus one hour til my Midwife appointment...really hope I get to hear baby's heartbeat Grin

16+6

kep1979 · 23/07/2015 14:03

spydie lovely pic - and I think girl too. Are you planning on finding out? I was convinced I'd be having a boy too as only boys on dh's side and I have two boys already, but nope it's a girl - was a big surprise.

mrschatty · 23/07/2015 14:05

Hello newbies bigwave

yokyil I hope you hear hb. My mw said we will listen to mine at my 16w apt and she will start to measure my bump.
missmartin stepping hill for me love what about you!!!??

kep1979 · 23/07/2015 14:07

They didn't have cosleepers when I had my boys, and I bf both of them and never found the moses basket too much hassle. The downside was they grew out of it so quickly, but then they both snored so kept me awake so they moved into their own rooms quite early. It was tricky post-section with picking them out of the baskets so my ex had to help - but I would have found it equally tricky with the cosleeper as it took some time before I could roll over.

And I didn't have a separate crib/basket for downstairs, I just put them for naps in their room as it was easier for me to just get on with cleaning et without them, and they both slept better in the dark anyway.

I suppose I'm just saying that you can just start with the minimum and then see what seems essential, especially if pennies are tight.

Lookingforadvice123 · 23/07/2015 14:12

I had my 16 week appointment with the midwife yesterday and she didn't listen to the heartbeat, she said they're not supposed to, and if they then can't find a heartbeat they can't refer you for a scan. She did say that some midwives will still try though if they're asked - guess it depends on the individual. We listened to the heartbeat with the consultant last week though when I was 15+3 and she found it no probs, not sure if they have slightly more sophisticated equipment than the midwives?

I was quite happy for the midwife not to try tbh as I only would've worried if she couldn't find it, but we only saw the heartbeat and baby moving loads this Monday just gone!

AlohaMama · 23/07/2015 14:14

Agree with kep I had a moses basket for both mine which was fine. I just had it on the floor at the side of the bed so it was easy to lean over the side to reassure or pick up the baby. I'm only looking at a co-sleeper this time becasue they are a bit bigger, so it gives me more time before I have to kick DD out of her cot.

lutrinae · 23/07/2015 14:33

I had a Moses basket too but tbh he mostly just slept in our bed. I am v lazy though!

spydie · 23/07/2015 14:34

Thanks Kep1979, we actually got loads of pics, about 10! Yes we are going to find out. I (awfully!) would prefer a girl, I know I won't mind once it's here but we both want to find out!

MissMartin10 · 23/07/2015 14:39

mrschatty oh in stockport? im going to the princess anne in bolton as I've recently moved to westhoughton but i was going to go to saint marys.. i was born at hope hospital but they shut their maternity ward a few years ago Sad

Romeolovesjuliet · 23/07/2015 14:45

Thanks for the rec sleepy will take a look. We are limited further in that DD and DS both still need to be in proper seats so can't get away with just boosters. Must be possible though!
I've always made a GP appt to get matB1 - seems like a waste of an appt but not sure how else you would get it.

kep1979 · 23/07/2015 14:50

romeo can you not just get the GP receptionist to request it from the Dr for you to pick up? Surely you will be on file as pregnant and therefore not a big issue?

hotcrossbun83 · 23/07/2015 15:34

What a night. I've been feeling a lot better the last couple of weeks so last night I went out with some friends as one is moving to US. On the way home I started feeling sick and vommed huge amounts of pizza up just outside the station :/ made it home then woke up every hour to vom again, this morning I still couldn't keep water down. Also ds woke at 1 and screamed for most of the night, had to go to the spare room and leave dh to it. I was worried about dehydration but I've just slept a few hours and now water stays down. I've been sick for weeks but never like that, could it be a bug? I feel like shit and need to collect ds from nursery at 6!

AlohaMama · 23/07/2015 15:54

poor you hotcross sounds nasty. sounds to me more like a stomach bug than pregnancy sickness, just from being sick so regularly. have you carried on being sick today or just overnight? hopefully you're through the worst of it and will be better soon.

Joey0805 · 23/07/2015 16:25

I had my 16 week appointment yesterday and they didn't listen to the heartbeat or measure the bump (not that there's much to measure yet). It was with a consultant in place of the midwife appt (Kep: for me all my MW appts are with the Obstetrician instead) and it was a health check up for me really. Although I wasn't weighed - maybe as I'm so obviously not over or underweight? Was kind of happy not to have to step on the scales to be honest!!!

Meeting my private obstetrician next week so will be interesting to see the difference I guess.

We are buying nothing for the baby until well after 20 weeks - not for any superstitious reasons we just want to enjoy a last few baby admin-free weekends first! That said, we did test drive a car last week haha

Romeolovesjuliet · 23/07/2015 16:36

Good idea kep will try that when the time comes. Wonder if they would do the same with my exemption form.

fishermanswife1 · 23/07/2015 16:37

Really useful hearingall the Moses basket talk from already mum's. Are babies able to go straight into cot at night if it furs in your room?

Also... I've just booked myself on to a fairly small boat (not tiny, but not a big boat) next month, when 19 weeks pg to do an 8 hour dolphin survey for work. Am I nuts? Just gauging opinion as I think its fine but know DH won't be best pleased...

hotcrossbun83 · 23/07/2015 16:47

How has your nausea been? I went on a boat on holiday at 17 weeks, sickness was all gone but it made me really sea sick when usually I'm fine. I would never get on a boat again pregnant!
