lutrinae omg.. i thought i was 2014 least week as my midwife wrote my edd in my green notes as the 24/1/15 .. Hmm then i realised her mistake lol

jmac88 · 28/07/2015 13:06

brooke I'm with you on the tatties. Live them!

Also can't wait until 20 week scan and being half way. Even though I only had a scan yesterday I didn't see much and can't wait to see my little baby boy again!

Don't want to wish away my pregnancy too much though. Am quite enjoying it so far!

Also going to menorca with mum to visit brother and nephew and nice which will be so great. Planning on just swimming in their pool and laying down pretty much the whole time.

Actually that's a thought....when are we supposed to stop laying on our backs???

fishermanswife1 · 28/07/2015 13:17

I was thinking that too Jmac. I've been trying to stop laying on my back already, just to try and get out of the habit, as I absolutely always sleep on my back. Struggling so far as I fall asleep on side but wake up on back. Or with DH telling me "come on, you're on your back, roll over". But I think I read it's around 16-17 weeks that you need to start sleeping on your side.

Just had a pretty odd preggo lunch... Avocado and sardines in ketchup bap.... Weird but lush

Nightfall1983 · 28/07/2015 13:23

Hello everyone , is it too late for a newbie? I've got rather a lot going on at the moment so apologies in advance if I'm not able to keep up with the thread.

I'm due Jan 17th with DC2, 15+2 I think today. I also have DS who is 2.10years old. Next scan is next week, they've brought my 20 week scan forwards to 16 weeks and it is also a consultant-led scan because we know that this baby has Down's Syndrome which means there is a risk of heart defects amongst other things so they are keeping a close eye with lots of scans.

Obviously finding out baby has DS was a shock and very sad but I am trying to stay positive and hope joining this thread with lots of other happy mums-to-be will help me do that - other than some extra appointments/scans my pregnancy and the early days after birth should be the same as anyone else...

SleepyDragon · 28/07/2015 13:24

Brooke and JMac its anything potato based.... oven chips, wedges, mash, hash browns etc, cannot stand it. Also having trouble with Cheddar cheese but loving Lancashire and Cheshire!

Although i just had a panic attack at lunch as i was eating some mozzarella and halfway through i realised it didn't state it was pasteurised..... threw the rest of it away feeling guilty!

Nightfall1983 · 28/07/2015 13:26

PS just read up a few posts and wanted to offer my experiences re sleeping on your back. I was paranoid about this last time and would get very cross with myself when I woke up on my back. Then, fairly late on - about 28 weeks iirc - I suddenly found that I couldn't lie on my back without getting dizzy; I instinctively stopped doing it at night and that was that. I think my body was quite capable of telling me what it needed and the early paranoia was unnecessary :)

SleepyDragon · 28/07/2015 13:27

Hi Nightfall

waves

welcome to the club (literally lol)

Sorry to hear you were given some shocking news, my cousin has severe DS and despite bing told he would only reach 13, has just celebrated his 46th birthday - he's an amazing guy!

We're not a bad bunch even if we do chat a lot but we'll all support you as much as we can x

Oysterbabe · 28/07/2015 13:41

I could happily eat nothing but potatoes just now. With lots of salt.
Good job I planted a load of them at the allotment, almost didn't bother as we were going through a bit of a low carb phase.

BeeMyBaby · 28/07/2015 13:43

hi nightfall if you want to add yourself to the stats sheet then here is the editable version
May I ask whether you feel its helping knowing so early? I, like a few others, didn't have the screening tests but you seem very prepared/ almost at peace with it, I suppose its very good that you are getting the extra care for your baby and any problems s/he may have before the birth.

Hi and thank you!

Lovely to hear that Sleepy, life expectance for DS has apparently gone from 25 just a couple of decades ago to 60 today which is great!

Honestly Bee I don't know the answer to that question. In many ways I think if you are someone who would never terminate (as I am) it might be better to have no tests and then just deal with it as it comes. I'm doing my best to deal with the fears etc but am painfully aware of how unexcited I am about the pregnancy these days; I'm mainly scared! For me, I had the combined blood test and NT test which gave me a massive 1 in 3 risk so immediately we knew it was more likely than not. I was offered a test similar to the harmony test at a different hospital after I refused the CVS/amnio because I didn't want to risk miscarriage - which BTW the doctors were not supportive of. That test came back positive for ds so now we know but its been a hard couple weeks of wondering, it's better now we know! I'm not sure on balance; I think you might have the right idea with no tests at all in many ways.

I will add myself to the stats - thanks!!

Brooke113 · 28/07/2015 14:00

Me too oyster babe and jmac I've gone completely off meat, but want anything potato based, yesterday's roast I made, my plate consisted of tons of roast potatoes, stuffing, yorkies and gravy, can't seem to tolerate veg either :( so trying to eat salads when I can as that's the only healthy thing that seems to be going in at the mo Blush

melonface · 28/07/2015 14:07

Welcome nightfall You do know you can only join us if you have a hairy belly right?! Smile

MissMartin10 · 28/07/2015 14:09

i actually HATE chips.. love flavoured wedges ect but...I've gone addicted to chips& gravy from the chippy with loads of salt and vinegar..

MissMartin10 · 28/07/2015 14:12

Hello nightfall welcome on! Grin xx

has everyone with children told them they are getting a new brother/sister? i was so excited when my mum told me i was going to have a brother.. i was 9 at the time and remember it like it was yesterday! ! Grin

Nightfall1983 · 28/07/2015 14:17

:) melon No one told me that. I guess I'll have to leave... Oh no wait, it's ok, mine is disgustingly hairy!! I'm thinking of trying VEET.

I haven't exactly told my son about the new baby, he's not yet 3 and I think it's a long time to wait but he's heard us talking about and has started chatting to my belly etc. I'm intending to buy "There's a house inside my Mummy" soon. The other day he noticed my rather enlarged breasts and asked "what's in there?" to which I replied "erm, milk" and he laughed and asked sarcastically "milk, and tea??" cheeky so and so!

moonshine25 · 28/07/2015 14:42

Hello all and welcome nightfall!

I've been checking and catching up often but haven't posted as I didn't want to just moan about symptoms! But did want to ask if anyone else is having hip pain?

Only 10 days till my gender scan and seriously cannot wait!!

15+1

lutrinae · 28/07/2015 14:45

Welcome nightfall. FWIW I think you sound like an amazing mum.

I agree re. Sleeping on your back. Your body eventually stops letting you as it's damn uncomfortable. My mum bought me a facial in the last pregnancy and it wasn't very relaxing as I was on my back the whole time.

Yes missmartin DS knows there's a baby in mummy's tummy who's his brother or sister. He often parrots it back to me but doesn't fully understand yet.

jmac88 · 28/07/2015 15:05

Hope you don't mind me sharing

Is a blog a friend of mine has started writing about parenting her beautiful 4month old (approx) daughter Frida.

Her latest post is about using cloth nappies which I know lots of us are interested in so thought it might be useful for you all!

spydie · 28/07/2015 15:19

Hello nightfall! Agree you sound an amazing mum! Smile

Re the sleeping thing, I'm a confirmed front sleeper, at first scan spud baby (as its been named Hmm) was also lying flat on its face, wonder where it gets that from...! Is it ok to carry on sleeping on my front? I'd imagine there is going to be a point where I can't...!

ValancyJane · 28/07/2015 15:32

Welcome nightfall

spydie I was wondering the same, I always sleep on my front or on my right side (which apparently is a no no!). Am still sleeping on my front, generally with my left leg bent and raised so it takes some of the pressure. Worried about sleeping on my left though, I've tried and just can't! Can anyone else really not sleep on their bloody left side?!

Yokyil · 28/07/2015 15:49

Everyone must be getting the chop! Had mine done today - so glad to get it into some sort of shape!
I'm with you ladies - used to always lay on my front but have got out of the habit. I'm currently trying to stop lying on my back - generally trying to lie on my right side at the minute. What's the risks of not lying on your left side??

spydie · 28/07/2015 15:54

Glad I am not the only front sleeper then!! The only downside currently is sometimes it hurts the boobs a bit lying on them!!

Yokyil I think there is a vein or artery that runs more on the right, so the weight of the baby can compress it and cause dizziness - I THINK!!!

EdgarAllenPoe · 28/07/2015 16:12

moonshine we can be hip pain buddies. It started at 10 weeks when I hadn't even put on noticeable weight, so I'm pretty sure is hormone-induced. If I don't do anything I'm okay, but if I walk for more than 20 minutes or even swim it starts up. Pain at the back of my hips, especially the right side. If I really did something active it shoots down my leg, otherwise it's just a dull, annoying ache. It's not terrible at the moment, but at 16+5 I imagine it will only get worse. Got my midwife app tomorrow so I shall ask her advice.

All this talk of haircuts! I had a major chop last November (about 10 inches off) which I donated to the Little Princess Trust who they make wigs for poorly kids free of charge. Gave me such a sense of wellbeing I'm using it as an excuse to grow my hair out long (it was never less than shoulder-length) so I can donate again since I think need minimum 9 inches.

In reality I'm just to lazy to get regular haircuts!

MissMartin10 · 28/07/2015 16:34

jmac i really enjoyed reading your friends blog.. I've read a few sections.. she seems pretty funny lol. Frida is a cute baby! Smile

Romeolovesjuliet · 28/07/2015 16:37

kep hope you're feeling better soon - sounds horrible.
Welcomenightfall, you've had such a lot to deal with already - I hope the upcoming scans are positive.
Hair chat - I'm having mine done at the weekend. Just colour though to get rid of the grey. My hair is long and very thick and drives me mad most of the time. Not sure whether to let it grow a bit or get it chopped off so currently going with the do nothing approach Grin.
We haven't told our kids yet - DS is too young to understand but we will tell DD very soon. Ideally I would wait until after 20 wk scan but she's pretty perceptive and I don't want other people giving the game away so that she doesn't hear it from us first. Also, there's only so long I can explain the bump away (she's already said 'mummy your tummy is so big!').
