Morning ladies
Hope you are all keeping well. Just thought I would start this weeks thread (I am still catching up with you guys from last weeks).
TPT today and I have dared to measure I am 12+6 weeks and currently meaasure 9.5 sheets. I can't imagine how big I am going to get with two in there.
Anyway I have decided to go for the Nuchal scan and have the last apt on Friday afternoon. HOpefully hti swill all go okay and nothing else to worry about, if I come back as high risk I think I will go for further testing (that's todays plan anyway - subject to hormonal changes )

I will endeavour to catch up with all your news later but just a quickie - DH was helped out of his cot when a baby by his big sis who accidentally (cough cough) dropped hime down the stairs. He broke his knee and still has occasional trouble with it now, so not overprotective at all to get checked out. Sensible in my mind

Cheers Have a godd TPT.

Just seen a post by someone on here called... 12yeargap. Tsk. Might have to change my name.

I'm rubbish at this.

Frenchsmallfry · 23/11/2006 16:34

Just change it to TYG, we all kow what it means, and call you that anyway.

twelveyeargap · 23/11/2006 16:40

It's taken. Boo hoo. And the IMPOSTOR joined three weeks after me.

Funny though.

Frenchsmallfry · 23/11/2006 16:45

Happy thanksgiving MKG, did I get it right today?

Can't believe you are thinking of starting your maternity bag. I didn't pack mine with dd until the night before. hehe.
Mind you it's a bit different here, you don't need to take anything to hospital for the baby. Everything is provided, Nappies, Milk and bottles if bottling, there are even clothes there but most people do prefer to take their own clothes. No maternity pads required either they are all supplied and disposable pants. I'm suprised MKG that it is not the case in the US as it is mainly insurance led. My top up insurance does secure me a private room, phone and TV though and top up all my expenses throughout pg'cy.

I hope everyone else is well today. I've been running around like an idiot today trying to get ready for the weekend and Mums party. Feeling a bit hormonal today too. Would quite like to curl up into a ball and not talk to anyone for the rest of the day. You ladies excluded of course

twelveyeargap · 23/11/2006 16:54

Really? They provide EVERYTHING? Wow. I had a HUGE bag when I had DD years ago. And trying to get it, the flowers, the cards, balloons, pressies, baby and everything back out of the hospital was quite a feat! They keep you a few days in Ireland though, so I suppose it all builds up.

Reminds me... MUST phone the hospital tomorrow and find out how to go about getting my homebirth organised, vis a vis moving house and having different community midwives.

largeginandtonic · 23/11/2006 16:57

Think of a xmas theme to go with yours and in the new year think again, or

Twelveyearsandimbloodymadenoughtodoitagain or,

twelveyearsofsanitygonetobereplacedbymadness or,

Twelveyearsandknockedupagain or on a xmas theme,

Twelvedaysofchristmas...thats it im done, named out.

Have decorated the cakes, they look so cute. I wish i could do it for a job. No money in it though, not now the supermarkets mass produce them

I may have my trying on session later if you are all up for it? Too tired last night, and needed the magic pants/body, so i didnt cry too loudly and wake the kiddies up. Remember lots of oooohs and aaaaghhhhssss...with a few wow's would be good. So glad i cant see any of your faces....

Frenchsmallfry · 23/11/2006 17:00

Same here though TYG, Normal stay in a French Hospital after birth is 4-5 days. I had to fight to get out after 2 nights with dd.

Yes EVERYTHING is supplied, only personal items for Me, clothes, towel, toiletries etc needed.

Frenchsmallfry · 23/11/2006 17:01

lg&t

MKG · 23/11/2006 17:17

FSF

Everything is provided here too. In fact all I really need to pack is a going home outfit for me and one for the baby. But since I have free stuff and no where to put it I'm packing it up. Then nurses will get the impression that I am organized and on the ball which couldn't be further from the truth.

MKG · 23/11/2006 17:18

Here the typical stay is two days after baby is born for vaginal delivery, and 4 for C-section.

pebblemum · 23/11/2006 17:19

I remember packing and unpacking my bag so many times with ds2, i kept thinking id forgotten something and then decided to change what i had packed, even when i got to the hosptital i was worried in case id left something important out I think i ended up with about 4 vests and sleepsuits in 2 different sizes for him(ds1 had been long and newborn clothes had been tight on him so this time i was prepared, as it was ds2 was small and newborn clothes hung off him), lots of nappies, wipes, nappy bags, cream etc, shawl, drip rag (terry nappy to catch any sick!!)as well as make up, hair stuff, pj's, dressing gown, going home clothes, t-shirt for the birth, lots of knickers and pads, camera and book for me. I looked like i was going on a weeks holiday instead of going in to have a baby. Everyone else had small holdalls, i had a bloody suitcase and i even had another bag ready at home in case i had to stay in longer than overnight No one could say i wasnt prepared though. This time im going to aim for the holdall (but will still have a bigger one at home as a standby)Dh would be useless at sorting anything out so i have to over compensate (thats my excuse anyway)

pebblemum · 23/11/2006 17:21

By the way i could have left hospital a couple of hours after the birth but though i had better put my packing to use and opted to stay in overnight, Dh encouraged me too saying i needed the rest. It wasnt until i got home the next day i found out the real truth, he had gone straight down the pub to wet the baby's head and got drunk, he knew he couldnt do that if i was at home as it would have felt wrong, cheeky git

MKG · 23/11/2006 17:24

A couple of hours!! I would refuse to go. You better believe I am looking forward to a baby free night that first night. I'm sending the baby to the nursery during the night, so I can sleep, and not be woken up by dh's alarm, ds, or the dog wanting to go out. The hospital is going to be the best vacation.

MKG · 23/11/2006 17:25

By the way, our hospital has the best menu. Their chocolate cheesecake is sooooo good.

pebblemum · 23/11/2006 17:47

I like the comfort of my own bed so prefer being home. As for the food, its not much to write home about. With ds1 i didnt get any food until tea time, he had been born at 1:45am and although they gave me a slice of dry toast afterwards they forgot about booking me in for breakfast or lunch, i was so caught up in the excitement of a new baby and lots of visitors (plus it was my first time in hospital and didnt know how it worked) that i hadnt noticed until i started to feel faint. With ds2 i was given a stale cheese sarnie for after the birth and everything else i had seemed to be in child portions and overcooked,i came home starving. Maybe it will better this time (different hospital) but I would still rather be at home as soon as possible.

Creena · 23/11/2006 18:26

pad sniffing?????! I'm perplexed - which thread was this on? I must read it!

ShowOfHands · 23/11/2006 18:28

I'm having a homebirth, so the hospital stays don't apply, but my local hospital likes to have you out after 6 hours if all is well. My bf had her third in April (also had a 4yr and a 2yr old at home) and was begging to be allowed to stay the night just for some peace. Nope, six hours and out she was kicked. I did take the older two for a couple of days to give her some peace though!

RedKennedy- I saw that Young at Heart programme too! Not good considering I was pg and hormonal!

I'm working till 7pm tonight and stupidly bought a bag of yoghurt peanuts to keep me going. I can't have them can I? The midwife will tell me off. Been on a training thing today about how to author websites (Zzzzzzzz) and I'm exhausted. I'm absolutely useless with technology and have no desire to author a website, but apparently librarians or 'knowledge managers' (wtf?) need to know this sort of garbage nowadays.

SKYTVADDICT · 23/11/2006 18:37

Hi all and welcome pinkjenny. I've just managed to read and catch up from where I left off.

Well, I had my appointment today with the consultant but didn't have an amnio and will not be having one.

  1. They wouldn't have been doing it today anyway he said he prefers to leave it to the experts at the bigger local hospital and the midwife should never have told me I would be having it and to book tomorrow off etc!
  1. My age risk is of having a baby with downs is 1 in 150 but taking blood tests into account that took the risk down to 1 in 200 which apparently is the NEW cut off for the high risk category.
  1. The risk of mc is 1 in 150 so that, took alongside the above results, evens things out somewhat!
  1. He was lovely and asked the following question:- what would be the worst case scenario for you (a) having a baby with downs or (b) losing the baby. DP and I both said losing the baby to which he said - then I think you have answered your own question.

We talked a bit longer but basically came away very happy with our decision.

He did recommend changing my birth plans from the midwifery unit to the local consultant led hospital just in case we were that "1" and the baby had difficulties so I am going to think about it.

Well, thats all from me for now. I feel extremely tired and have had a very stressful week. I also now have to go to work tomorrow which is a bit of a pain.

largeginandtonic · 23/11/2006 19:12

Me too SOH with the homebirth, my own bed and food anytime is the best.

Skytv im glad you have made your decision and are happy with it. It must have been a very stressful day, do something lovely this evening to reward yourself.

Creena the thread is natalie jane's am i in labour???????? The pad sniffing and jelly show are sooo funny, cant help but keep my head in the door. Come on over MKG and TYG are there already.

pebblemum · 23/11/2006 19:16

Skytv glad all went well today and that you have reached a decision on what to do, its nice to know that you and dp are feeling a bit happier. Your consultant sounds as though he was really nice. Hope you enjoy your day off tomorrow!!

I missed the post about pad sniffing too Creena, the mind boggles

pebblemum · 23/11/2006 19:23

LG&T cant beleive she still hasnt had that bloody baby i looked on there when she first started the thread and have been hovering now and again and watching birth announcements, waiting for news. Havent read all her thread though so missed the pad sniffing, am just off to catch up see you over there (the way its going we will all be over there with her

Frenchsmallfry · 23/11/2006 20:29

Just had a nose (no punn intended)on the pad sniffing thread, very funny.

lg&t your baby MUST be one day late please. On my Birthday. It's my 30th so will need some good news that day. (Don't want to be 30 says FSF with a teenage huff!!!)

MKG I'm soo glad to hear you get everything provided too, I would expect it when Insurance is so high! Actually the food was the best thing about my hospital stay too I have to say. Waiting for meal times was the only thing that got me through the boring days in a room with a sleeping baby and the Occassional Visitor.

largeginandtonic · 23/11/2006 20:36

We will both be 30 next year then FSF, im denying it personally. Especially as last partner was 9 years older than me, so always felt young and now have shiny new gorgeous husband who is only 25.....

So denial, denial all the way to August 20th. At leasy your older than me FSF.....

Frenchsmallfry · 23/11/2006 20:53

Thank you !!!!!!

Frenchsmallfry · 23/11/2006 20:54

My Dh is also younger than me.

only by 8mths; hehe
