Morning ladies
Hope you are all keeping well. Just thought I would start this weeks thread (I am still catching up with you guys from last weeks).
TPT today and I have dared to measure I am 12+6 weeks and currently meaasure 9.5 sheets. I can't imagine how big I am going to get with two in there.
Anyway I have decided to go for the Nuchal scan and have the last apt on Friday afternoon. HOpefully hti swill all go okay and nothing else to worry about, if I come back as high risk I think I will go for further testing (that's todays plan anyway - subject to hormonal changes )

I will endeavour to catch up with all your news later but just a quickie - DH was helped out of his cot when a baby by his big sis who accidentally (cough cough) dropped hime down the stairs. He broke his knee and still has occasional trouble with it now, so not overprotective at all to get checked out. Sensible in my mind

Cheers Have a godd TPT.

Good luck for your scan today LG&T.

Frenchsmallfry · 22/11/2006 10:31

Thanks MKG, Thanks giving sounds lovely. Well I hope you have a truly lovely day tommorow.

Ohhhhhhhh lg&t, exciting day. Best of luck and don't leave us in suspense later please. Are you going to find out the sex today?

Frenchsmallfry · 22/11/2006 10:41

BTW mkg, Saw your post on the Ruby? thread, I love the suggestion of spelling Rubi with an I. I won't normally tell names before but Ruby was top of my list for a girl, have to work on dh for it though. I think if I manage it I would change it to an i, it's really nice.

JonahB · 22/11/2006 12:21

Hi Everyone,

happy thanksgiving to all those celebrating tomorrow. Any festival, religious or secular, which involves eating is always good by me!!!!

LG&T - best of luck. Hope you see lots of wiggling.

I'm a bit scared to do my sheet measurement, plus I can't remember what I was to start with. I told my work colleagues yesterday. A couple of them had guessed (always the women who have kids). TBH, its a bit of a relief. I'm blatently showing and it's nice to be able to slump in a chair clutching my ever-increasing gut.

Okay, maternity bras. Thanks for the M&S warning - i was about to trot off there. Where can I buy nice maternity bras? I hated the ones I used last time and I can't use them again cos luckily, they are far too big. Any ideas?

MKG · 22/11/2006 12:51

Thanks FSF,

I think it's good to spice up the spelling of names. It makes them more interesting and memorable.

I will be eating turkey in the name of the May thread tomorrow and NatalieJane because I already told her so.

LG&T good luck on your scan. I hope you have fun. I love going for scans. The scientific part of being pregnant is my favorite.

ShowOfHands · 22/11/2006 14:44

Afternoon ladies. I haven't been able to get on and catch up with the thread for days and everything seems to move so fast! Apologies for having missed any huge news, will read over most recent events as soon as I have an hour to spare. Needless to say, I hope everybody is well, Mums-to-be and babies alike.

I have developed pregnancy symptom #4,705, sore nipples. It's not all the time, but if it's cold and they harden (hmm, tmi) it feels like a wasp is chewing on them. I'm considering putting chapstick on them! I know what you're all thinking- strange lady we've never met waltzes in after days of non-posting and launches into a description of her norks, well frankly who else am I going to tell?!

Well I didn't have chance to post my TPT results yesterday but after weeks of no change I am up to 8sheets (started at 7) and I'm 14+6. Woo hoo, I'm a biffa! Had all my official maternity leave info through this morning at work and I am entitled to 24 weeks on full pay and a further 13 weeks on statutory. Plus, I can then have three months unpaid if I wish. I tried to discuss it with DH over lunch today and when I mentioned that I'm going to take my three weeks holiday I'm owed immediately prior to my maternity leave so that I can finish the nursery, potter, nest etc he mumbled something about 'three weeks of Mumsnet'. Cheeky sod. Actually, I shouldn't criticise, I've had bad insomnia for a few days and he's been making me milk, singing to me (don't laugh, he has a lovely voice!) and telling me silly stories about what the baby's doing. Last night he tried telling the baby times tables, unfortunately DH can't count so the poor mite's already mathematically challenged and it's not even born yet. Plus, on the up side, DH is in the middle of three weeks off and has made breakfast in bed, met me for lunch with various picnics and done all of the housework every day for two weeks. It's bliss!

I think I've felt a few flutterings the last few days, especially when I'm lying down. It's like popcorn popping inside me. I wonder if it could be the baby yet or if it's just wind?!

Anyway got to run. Hope everybody's well and I'll read up on all the happenings as soon as possible.

Happy Wednesday!

Frenchsmallfry · 22/11/2006 15:56

Sorry MKG, didn't realise it was an accent on Ruby not an I, feel like a prat now. Still like Rubi though!!!!

Frenchsmallfry · 22/11/2006 15:57

Actually I quite like it with an ie - Rubie

pebblemum · 22/11/2006 16:05

SOHs i have every sympathy with you and your sore nipples, that was one of the first symptons i got at the start of this pregnancy and it still hasnt worn off they are permantly sore and feel on fire. No matter what i wear it doesnt help, i did try going without a bra but it wasnt a good idea as my nipples have been permantly erect for weeks now with no sign of change, poor dh thought it was the effect he was having on me

LG&T hope the scan went well. Did you treat yourself to some KK?

twelveyeargap · 22/11/2006 16:26

Hello All. SOH - I think it probably is the baby. I've felt it too. Now what was it i was going to tell you from last week's thread... Oh yes. The Active Birth Centre in Archway rent out birthing pools by the week. Think I am going to rent one from there. May do the classes too. Oh and someone I know did hypnobirthing and did a 36 hour labour on that and gas and air in a birthing pool so it might be a winner.

Scootermum, thanks for thoughts. House is a bloody wreck. It was FILTHY. I am not particularly houseproud, but I was shocked. Scum round the edges of floors where they were badly mopped for months (years?), grease all over the kitchen cupboards, dirt in the cupboards. Took down the kitchen extractor filter to clean it and nearly threw up it was so disgusting. It's taken me days to get the place straight and it's only 850 sq ft of a house! The landlord is asking £630K for it. Can you imagine? Saw it on the web today. That's over £700 per square foot. Prices in Islington have gone mental. There is no way I would pay that.

Anyway, managed to completely wear myself out and ended up taking last two days of work. (And spend a lot of time cleaning, but never mind.) Pretty much done now. I'm not going to do any more. I'm not going to completely spring clean this guy's house for him. It should have been clean when we moved in.

SKYTV came (the company not the mumsnetter) and said that they won't put a dish up as the roof of the house is too unstable. Not good news if you're the fool who's paying £630K for it. Going to get SKY to put my subscription on hold for two months. I'm not paying a private contractor £300 to put a dish up. No Lost though. Will have to download it.

Erm... Took me ages to catch up and now I've forgotten what I was going to say. Doh. Oh well.

Glad everyone is reasonably well. Sorry to those who still have ms. I was glowing for about 3 days before the move and now everyone's been coming up to me at work saying I look wrecked. Just need a proper rest i think, and I'll be fine.

Would love to be having thanksgiving dinner. Did roast chicken on Monday so that will have to do! (And had chicken sandwiches for dinner last ngiht which was even nicer!)

twelveyeargap · 22/11/2006 16:29

Oh meant to say as well. I got a nice black lace bra from Debenhams online from the Miriam Stoppard range. It has a very soft underwire, so great for my massive norks. It's still quite large - you know that awful "full cup" look, but DH thinks it's nice so that's good.

peacemakerukuk · 22/11/2006 16:45

Blimey SOH, what company do you work for that you manage to get 24 weeks off paid???? I want to come and work for them

Pinkjenny · 22/11/2006 16:50

Hi everyone, I'm new!

Am 13+2 and just coming out of morning sickness hell. Now into triple test hell! Am 29 years old, no history of congenital disorders in either family. Can anyone tell me whether they have decided not to bother with the triple test?

Juicylucythe2nd · 22/11/2006 16:59

Pinkjenny - Welcome!!

I had the nuchal + Bloods (is that the triple test?), but I'm 39 so was in a high risk group. 29 is pretty young. You have to decide how important it is for you to know and what you'd do with the info. It's a really personal decision.

SOH - I want to work there too. I get statutory and not a penny more.

LG&T - Hope the scan went ok and the reason you've not updated us is coz of the 100mile round trip for the KK doughnuts

SKYTV - Good luck for tomorrow. Will be thinking of you. xx

Pinkjenny · 22/11/2006 17:06

Hi Juicy

Thanks for the advice. God help this poor baby, I am sure I'm the most neurotic and paranoid pregnant woman that ever lived. Thanks for saying 29 is young, I'm like a geriatric in the waiting room.

pebblemum · 22/11/2006 17:08

Congrats on your pregnancy pinkjelly and welcome to the mad house

im 28 and have just had my triple test done, didnt really have a choice it was just done with the rest of my bloods. I also had the nuchal scan but only did that as it was free and too impatient to wait for my 20wk scan before seeing the little one. If it hadnt all been included in my anti-natal care im not sure if i would have gone out of my way to have them (although dh was admanant he wanted to know). I think the decision depends on whether the results would make a difference to how you would deal with the pregnancy ie if it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference or if knowing the risks would allow you to enjoy the pregnancy more. No one can tell you whether having them is a good idea or not, the only person who can make that decision is you. Good luck with making your decision

pebblemum · 22/11/2006 17:10

sorry pinkjenny, got your name wrong Ive got jelly on the brain at the moment, its one of my cravings

Pinkjenny · 22/11/2006 17:16

Hi Pebble

Everyone is so friendly! My friends are all really bored of me already! I guess I am slightly scarred by the triple test experience as I know of 3 people who came back as high risk, didn't have the amnio, and had healthy babies. My husband is adamant that we have it, as he feels it is worth it for the possibility that it would come back low risk. The possibility of an amnio freaks me out. Although to be honest, everything freaks me out at the moment!

Gingerbear · 22/11/2006 17:26

I have this black and pink maternity bra from Debenhams - tis lovely, not at all a passion killer! Mainly black with pink trims.
bra

Gingerbear · 22/11/2006 17:30

Elle Mcpherson undies are pretty but pricy. (Figleaves.com)

pebblemum · 22/11/2006 18:02

Pinkjenny, it is worrying trying to decide what is best but until you know for certain if you are high risk, it isnt worth fretting over amnios, you can think about that if or when you have the tests and have the results back.

Frenchsmallfry · 22/11/2006 18:20

Hi pinkjenny, Welcome and congratulations on your pg'cy. We certainly are all a friendly bunch here on the May thread.

Nuchal and bloods here too, infact going for the bloods tommorow. I'm 29 too, but it is all included in ante-natal care here in France. You have to maje the decision, what pebble says is very true.

SOH, VERY lucky you with your Maternity benefits. When I had ds in the UK and worked, I thought I was lucky as my bosses so desperatly wanted me to return to my job they topped my stat Maternity up by £50 a week.

lg&t, Where are you? (hugs)

ShowOfHands · 22/11/2006 18:46

Evening folks. Welcome on board PinkJenny, you're very welcome and if you want a paranoia competition you've come to the right place! I think the split between perfectly relaxed and happy and paranoid as hell is about 2/98 and that's generous! I'm having the triple test next Wednesday, didn't really think about it tbh, just agreed to it at my booking appointment. However, I know I wouldn't have any invasive tests regardless of the results so I suppose it's just an exercise in collecting information really. I'm 25 btw.

TYG thank you so much for the Active Birth Centre info, going to check it out. Sounds like you're shattered- you put me to shame, I've taken to lazing round, saving energy for the move in January (yeah, keep telling yourself that SOH). Take it a bit easy TYG!

Peacemaker, JL, FSF- I work as an academic librarian but the benefits are so good because I work in a university. I've been there for quite a while and the benefits increase significantly the longer you work there. A FT colleague has just finished her mat. leave (same benefits- 24weeks on full pay, 13 stat) and they've even let her come back for just one day a week with a promotion! They're fab and very keen on flexible working/working from home etc. I'm sure I could find you all jobs! I'm very lucky I know. I get free bus travel too- doesn't sound a lot I know, but I don't drive and once the baby is here I'll be very glad of it!

Anyway, DH is cooking so I'm off to sit expectantly at the table...

Frenchsmallfry · 22/11/2006 19:11

I'd love a job SOH, see what you can do.

Ohhhh might be a bit of a comute though, best not. Never mind. You are VERY lucky.

aprilmeadow · 22/11/2006 19:40
