Not started a new thread before, so I'll give it a go....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Missdee yes perfectly safe, you can't get chickenpox again once you've already had it :)

Missdee2014 · 26/07/2015 19:27

Thank you. One less thing to worry about.

dobbythedoggy · 26/07/2015 19:52

Can't wait for this weekend to be over!

Had a spot of bright red blood when I wiped on friday night. Nothing since. But still a waiting game until I can make a gps appointment tomorrow morning. Not sure if it will warrent a referal back to epau, just want someone qualified to make that call.

Dh is being misserable and grummpy. Mil is moaning again, never to his face, but sending messages through bil. She wants to see dd but refuses most invites and can't wrap her head around the fact it too much for dh to bring dd to her between shifts at work. She twists everything so we only ever see her as a unit to stop her trying to play us off against each other. I think she wants to see dd alone and is trying to arrange for dh to leave her with bil so she can visit there. He was up and down half the night and kept trying to wake me up, from my drugs induced sleep to talk about it. So we're both tired today and I've got the sicky stomach feeling back. Could really do without the extra stress.

On the plus side dd had a lovely day with my parents yesterday seeing old family friends. She was spoilt rotten! But we saw dh's uncle in the supermarket when we were out her so his bound to stir things up some more!

QforCucumber · 26/07/2015 20:17

Not a nice day here either - dp came in at 3am, woke me up by accident but then I was awake until about 5. When I got up decided I really fancied a chicken Dinner, make it all only to find out appatently baby doesn't like chicken - the taste or now the smell, and the kitchen stinks of it, all I can keep down is cucumber so big chunks of that. 7 weeks tomorrow - and looks like work will have to be informed if this carries on.

maybebabybee · 26/07/2015 20:23

Sorry to all those suffering badly with sickness, sounds awful.

I'm not exactly queasy but quite turned off the thought of various foods and have a constant acidic/hungry feeling in my tummy.

Me624 · 26/07/2015 20:34

Told my parents today Smile it will be the first grandchild for them, they were shocked (not sure why really as DH and I have been married for nearly 4 years, most people are surprised we haven't had them yet) but really pleased. We're going to tell DH's parents when we see them next weekend but keep it quiet from siblings and friends until after the 12 week scan.

dobby I hope you get some reassurance tomorrow.

Indomitable · 26/07/2015 20:37

Yes, you're safe Miss!

dobby that sounds all kinds of stressful. I'm sure the spot will be nothing. Shame about difficult family, hope it settles. Though we miss out on some help, there are benefits to living 200 miles from them!

Q sounds awful. Sympathy for you!

I've had my first reminder of how awful the nausea is. I've had a headache all afternoon, I had a nap but didn't eat properly before so woke up feeling worse. Sat by DS in the bath feeling queasy, remembering how it was last time. Fortunately it has lifted a bit now. I'm not ready to feel bad!

I've just dug my old bump band out to disguise that my jeans are undone. (DH's friend is here). I was wondering when the bloat would get me.

Paperblank · 26/07/2015 21:20

Last night my jeans were so uncomfortable I unbuttoned them to release the pot belly. This morning I thought right...lets try that hair bobble trick so they fit for a bit longer. They've been getting tighter and tighter over the last week or so and I've been and bought maternity jeans.

My jeans are huge on me today (well not HUGE but ykwim) and I've not even needed to unbutton them to go for a wee - they just pull down.

I'm hoping that this means the bloating is over and done with? Apart from achy boobs all my other symptoms have disappeared!

Herewegoagain31 · 26/07/2015 21:24

I'm another one who has been suffering today. I was sick for the first time this morning :( I felt v nauseous with DD1 but was never actually sick and this time I've been feeling the same nausea and just presumed I wouldn't be sick again (I'm 9+1 today) so it was a complete shock when it happened. I hate being sick! Ugh. 12 weeks really can't come soon enough. I've been with my parents the last 10 days and I'm worried going back to looking after DD myself when I go back home this week. She's going to be watching a lot of Peppa Pig I fear!

LaraNotCroft22 · 26/07/2015 22:20

Herewego I was also sick today for the first time. Been feeling nauseous a few weeks but not actually been sick in this pregnancy yet.

Apart from that been feeling generally ropey all day.

Dreading work this week ????

Herewegoagain31 · 27/07/2015 00:10

Oh no sorry to hear that Lara it's horrible. When you were sick in your first pregnancy was it constant once it started or just occasional? I don't know what to expect as I never had it last time

Celen · 27/07/2015 06:24

Morning all, how is everyone?

6 weeks today and I've just got my 3+ on the Clearblue, yay! Smile Odd sense of relief.

Have also booked a private scan for 7 Aug when I'll be 7+5 so counting down the days til that!

Celen · 27/07/2015 06:30

Sorry to hear about all the sickness Sad

I really did find the acupressure bands took away some of the nausea, nibbling crackers & sucking sherbet lemons all helped last time. Hope you're able to keep up your strength!

Indomitable · 27/07/2015 07:49

Morning, one of my (many) apps this morning suggested that in order for ginger to be effective in reducing nausea it had to be taken regularly, and that the effect sort-of built up. It also claimed to be 'scientifically shown' to be effective.

So I checked. (I expected it to be an old wives tale, or at best, a placebo).

But there is evidence showing that taking at least 1g ginger daily is better than a placebo and in some trials was found to be as good as metclopramide (have I spelled that correctly?).

It was tested in people with nausea due to pregnancy, chemotherapy and post-operative. Several randomised controlled trials contributed to the meta-analyses and there were large enough sample groups to satisfy me.

I've seen some of the pregnancy vitamins have ginger added. I'll hit boots later and check the dosage.
Otherwise it's Brew ginger tea all round? Biscuit (ginger nut?)

maybebabybee · 27/07/2015 08:32

The cat keeps vomming this morning. Boak.

julesldn · 27/07/2015 10:24

Also had a long day yesterday on a 4 hour coach journey. Felt so sick and had lost the will to live by the time we got off. Slept so well last night!

For those asking about books - my DPs Mum bought me 'conception, pregnancy and birth' by Miriam stoppard' which is very useful and factual.

I bought the mumsnet book too which is funny 'why did nobody tell me?' And DP is (slowly) reading 'the new dad's survival guide' by Rob kemp. Useful for us as it has sections on breastfeeding/nappy changing etc but no need for it for those that are having their 2nd!

I find books easier to read than online stuff so definitely worth it for me and can always sell them afterwards :)

Indomitable · 27/07/2015 10:46

Man that sounds awful Jules. Hope you feel better today.

Midwife has just rung to book my booking in appt! And apparently we should now be on vitamin D as well as folic acid. Am I the only one that didn't know?

I've got the Pregnancy Bible book from last time. It's good, a bit American in places, and I seem to remember some of the photos are hilarious (the poor embarrassed woman having her seatbelt fastened by her condescending husband - we know it's a Husband because of the wedding band forced into every picture). And when you're ready for it Ina May Gaskin's books are amazing (if a little hippyish) when it comes to birth. I can't remember which one I've got (not spiritual midwifery) but I loved it.

Cherrytoes · 27/07/2015 10:49

Q, ive also massively gone off chicken too! Shame as I had roasted a whole one and couldn't face it that night or in sandwiches the next day so ended up going to the dog :|

Maybe, that's how I feel too, not actually sick but a funny tummy feeling and gone right off certain foods but really fancy others!

Celen · 27/07/2015 10:50

Indomitable are taking a prenatal vitamin? If so, then no need for extra Vitamin D I think.

Indomitable · 27/07/2015 11:08

Celen no not yet. I was on the folic acid while we were TTC but haven't got round to getting a multivitamin. That's a job for today.

QforCucumber · 27/07/2015 11:18

Tesco had the centrum pregnancy vitamins on offer the other week if that's any help Smile
dp wants to book an early scan for a week on Sunday - will be 8+5 then, I'm unsure. Keep reading scare stories of 8 week one being ok then still losses at 12 week one. Argh - need to keep off the Internet really.

maybebabybee · 27/07/2015 11:23

anyone else just taking folic acid rather than a MV? When I saw GP she told me multivitamins were a bit pointless as unless I had a horrendously bad diet I would be getting all vitamins necessary from food. She said I only needed to take folic acid. So that's what I'm doing :)

maybebabybee · 27/07/2015 11:24

Qfor I was told by the lady who scanned me at the hospital that seen a HB/everything being ok at 8 weeks is pretty much like everything being ok at 12 weeks safety wise.

I think naturally forums on the internet attracts women who have sadly suffered losses after scans being ok, because the majority who were ok wouldn't be looking at info on it. The reality is I think it's still very rare. Doesn't stop me worrying though.

Herewegoagain31 · 27/07/2015 11:29

indomitable thanks for the info on the ginger!

Herewegoagain31 · 27/07/2015 11:34

I think this is reassuring for miscarriage rate info and puts in perspective that it is quite unusual once you get past a certain point spacefem.com/pregnant/mc.php?m=08&d=10&y=12
I am still very nervous too though as it is a risk and a worry, however small!
