Not started a new thread before, so I'll give it a go....

Aw Beautiful that's really disappointing for you. Fwiw I went to my last 12 wk scan on my own whilst DH stayed with DS1 as we had no one to mind him. It was ok, I was so happy everything was ok I kind of forgot I was on my own. I can't scroll back as I'm on my phone but I guess there's no way he can change what he's working?

QforCucumber · 25/07/2015 23:07

Any way you could rearrange it? Or book a private one for when he's home so he can go too?

Trinpy · 26/07/2015 07:08

that's rubbish Beautiful. Will you still be able to call him as soon as you've had the scan to let him know how it went?

Morning sickness has arrived. I can't even bring myself to make sandwiches for my packed lunch. Will have to survive on toast and yogurt today! 12hr shift at work today. I'm starting to remember why I didn't enjoy pregnancy last time round...Confused

maybebabybee · 26/07/2015 07:10

Beautiful that's a good idea from Qfor - could you maybe book a private scan for the week before or after your NHS scan?

maybebabybee · 26/07/2015 07:11

Sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish Trin. No MS here but woke up at 3am completely starving!

Me624 · 26/07/2015 07:59

I had a terrible nights sleep too last night. Just kept waking up all the time! And the vivid dreams seem to have started, including one totally random one in which my boss was delivering my baby Confused

I'm very thankful though that morning sickness has passed me by. Flowers Trinpy and all the others suffering

Me624 · 26/07/2015 08:12

Can any experienced mums recommend a good pregnancy book? The one that comes up time and time again is What to Expect When You're Expecting, is it worth buying? Or can I learn just as much from MN?

Paperblank · 26/07/2015 08:22

Me

I've got what to expect... DP bought it for me and I quite like it (although to be fair I haven't got anything to compare it against)

He did come up with a good idea and said join the library and borrow a few books, see which ones you like and then buy them.

I would have just gone and bought them but he's a bit more sensible than me.

Missdee2014 · 26/07/2015 09:18

Can't recommend any books in afraid, have never bothered with any before. I am looking for one for my DP though as this is his 1st and he likes to google everything so I think he would enjoy a new dad book.

lilmisshopeful · 26/07/2015 09:18

me I have a book that I really liked. One of the week by week ones. Can't remember the name but I'll dig it out later and let you know.

Last night was v rough here. I don't remember being anywhere near this sick with DD. Well not actually throwing up but constant hideous nausea and fatigue. Feeling seriously sorry for myself. DD woke at 5.30 so we put her between us watching cbeebies so we could go back to sleep. Bad parents I know :-)

Got our comeuppance later when she poked me in the eye to wake me up and announce that she'd done a poo. And indeed she had....tmi alert....she taken off her nappy and it was lying on the bed beside my face, with her standing above me saying 'Mummy, wipe me. Mummy, wipe me!' Oh dear. Feel like such a terrible mummy now :-(

lilmisshopeful · 26/07/2015 10:09

me the book I liked was 'Your pregnancy bible.' I'll try to post a pic of the cover. I also bought the Mumsnet pregnancy book (or whatever it's called). It's basically a collection of the best/funniest/most useful advice from this sort of thread so I guess it's not an essential purchase as you can read stuff on Mumsnet! But I really enjoyed it. I guess you could try loaning it from the library as your DH suggests

lilmiss not at all bad parents. I'm shattered today because of all the shitty insomnia and this morning has been very c beebies-based. I feel no guilt. DS is happy, it contributes to his imaginative play (he's 2.5) and I'm not getting all grumpy & cross with him while I'm feeling sicky.

Shame about the poo though, that might have made me boak! Shock

I've got What to Expect from first DC and like it a lot especially the week by week development but not tried any others.

How are you today smirking?

Me624 · 26/07/2015 10:24

Thanks lilmiss! The library is a great idea, I'm already a member and didn't even think about going there instead of buying straight away.

lilmisshopeful · 26/07/2015 10:29

celen I love your logic-I'd forgotten about the imaginative play point-thank you! Yes the poo incident didn't help my nausea. Wow these early days are hard work!

lilmisshopeful · 26/07/2015 10:34

me another option as well as the library is any local Facebook mum groups. There are several v active ones near me and people want to get rid of soooo much good stuff for free or v cheap. I've got so many bargains from them. Funnily enough someone just posted selling that pg book for £5, but South London is probably a bit far for you!

But it's definitely worth joining a few of those groups as you can pick up all sorts of good stuff without forking out full price. I found it especially useful for when dd was v little, as I could just buy stuff as and when we decided we needed it rather than buying loads of stuff beforehand and only ending up using half of it. We still bought a few things before she arrived which turned out to be pretty useless, but it was great being able to buy lots of useful things second hand from local mums when the need arose. It's also a nice way of meeting local mums. I've got a couple of lovely friends who I met when we bought/sold baby gear to/from each other.

Just found this: www.msichicago.org/whats-here/exhibits/you/the-exhibit/your-beginning/make-room-for-baby/interactive/ it's fascinating, worth a look!

It's very quiet here today...has everyone gone to Mothercare? Grin

Missdee2014 · 26/07/2015 17:21

I'm officially an emotional wreck Hmm At swimming with the dd's and DP today and I burst out crying because it was too busy Shock I just felt so overwhelmed and paranoid incase anyone bumped into me. Also, saw a child about 5/6 covered from head to toe in chicken pox and now can't help worrying about it!! How irresponsible of the parent!

Indomitable · 26/07/2015 17:27

Missdee, I understand the anxiety. But you must've had chicken pox yourself before. It's only a problem if you catch the virus and become ill from it, which is unlikely if you've had it before.

Paperblank · 26/07/2015 17:58

Celen

It is quiet today! I bet everyone else is off doing lovely things Grin I am still feeling sorry for myself so its a good job DP is at work.

I think I might haul myself into the bath and see if that helps the pain (not holding my breath though!!)

sherazade · 26/07/2015 18:01

Envy at all those who aren't sick. This nausea is making me lose the will to live.. I feel sorry for my dds because sometimes I'm so sick I literally cannot even utter a word to reply to them when they speak to me Sad

sherazade · 26/07/2015 18:02

Didn't mean to come across as mean spirited just feeling horrific Sad

Indomitable · 26/07/2015 18:04

I've been camping but am back!
I've been feeling ok so far (only 5+2) but DH is watching some hideous cooking thing, it's starting to gross me right out.

And I have a headache. Hope this isn't the beginning of the awfulness.

lilmisshopeful · 26/07/2015 18:50

Have also been feeling horrific but a friend recommended those acupressure armbands to ease the sickness and they do seem to be helping a little.

Missdee2014 · 26/07/2015 19:06

Indomitable, I had chicken pox as a young child. Both my dds have also had them - does that mean I'm safe?

It seems pregnancy at 31 is another world from pregnancy at 19/22!! Roll on the 2nd trimester so I can hopefully feel normal again. So tired right now it's unbelievable. Hmm
