Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 34th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 33rd grads fred is here.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 51st outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Here is the stats list, please update your own spot with any updates.

Don't worry so much viroids! Honestly! Much easier to learn on the job IME. My DH had to all the first days nappies having never even touched one before, if he can do it, you can too.

And you'll get pleeeeeentyyyyyy of advice whether you want it or not when the time comes!

I do know people who've made friends through their NCT group Smile

What I mean to say is, they're not essential. So if you can't afford them/don't want to do them you won't be doing your baby a disservice.

honeysucklejasmine · 23/07/2015 12:46

I'm not bothering with nct or baby focussed classes. All my friends have children so I have plenty of social interactions and mostly know what I'm doing with regards to "baby care"

I will go to antenatal classes of course. I want to know more about labour, birth, post birth and breastfeeding.

Luckily friend is a midwife so can always ask for help.

goodnessgraciousgouda · 23/07/2015 13:05

I had a very well meaning family friend rave to me about how wonderful her daughter found NCT classes, and how she was still in touch with lots of the people on her course, how wonderful it was to make friends going through everything at pretty much exactly the same time as you, etc.

I didn't have the heart to tell her that they don't exist in France!

Indigoblue2 · 23/07/2015 13:05

Anyone wanting to BF I can tell you I learnt more in one La Leche meeting than my antenatal and everything combined!

Indigoblue2 · 23/07/2015 13:07

Christ it's not Friday is it? I'm not 37 weeks till tomorrow Smile

MrsTattoo · 23/07/2015 13:07

Afternoon ladies!

Good luck la, hope you are relaxing :)

I had my booking appointment arrived through the post today! Not until 12th August though.
The time I have been given is about 45 minutes before the end of DH shift at work, he wants to come with me to every appointment so I will have to phone and rearrange anyway. Is there much point him being there? I just thought it was to get height, weight, medical history etc anyway?

Also I'm thinking of booking an early private scan, I would be 7+5 on the day we both have off work - it's a couple of days before my booking appointment - Is it worth it at that stage? What can you actually see? If I'm just going to see a blob on a screen for 10 minutes it seems like a waste of £80? But if you can see arm/leg paddles etc and a heart beat I would go for it. (Plus twins and triplets run in both families so I am so eager to know how many are cooking!!)

Aufwiedersehenpetrarch · 23/07/2015 13:17

What is arse rain? Hmm
pretz Mine was also a first baby plus I was a geriatric monther. (Yes, yes, that what they call you. Not in front of your face, obviously, but behind your back. Whispering. And in your notes. Black on white)
gouda I agree. I think lots of people don't feel "pregnant" in the second trimester when you can still compete in international show jumping events if you're Zara Good luck though! Hope it is exciting!
indi wow. Full-term. Congrats!
la hope the relaxing it working a charm. I found take out a healthy dinner and tv a stimulating intellectual read did wonders. Grin
tattoo The heartbeat should be going by 7 weeks if I remember correctly from last time Hmm but it was definitely only a blob with extensions when I had my early scan early because I had no idea I was pregnant and so couldn't say anything much about my last period or how far along I thought I could be. The idea of checking for giblets sounds very exciting though! :)
Speaking of which is anyone on here Queen Knowledge on hcg levels? The clinic had my bloods done two days ago and they were 50 and today they were 147. Does that sound good, reasonable or rubbish? I haven't spoken to a nurse so don't know? Confused. I thought they were supposed to double and they haven't? I'm only 13dpo icing today though so not sure if that makes a difference?

Indigoblue2 · 23/07/2015 13:19

auf do they not double in 48 hours? Google!

Toast85 · 23/07/2015 13:36

Hello all

Tattoo I had a scan at 8 or 9 weeks for spotting- I could see heartbeat but other than that baby was just a kidney bean shaped blob. If you wait a little longer than 7 weeks then the reassurance you get from it might mean more, if you see what I mean?

Had my 28 wk (27+5) mw appt today, all good though need to ring tomorrow or Monday to check if my iron levels were ok. Feeling very virtuous that my weight gain is within normal (10kg roughly so far, sounds like a lot to me) so I celebrated with an almond croissant afterwards Grin

Anyway my cold is finally lifting and I've got a little bit of energy back so dh and I are doing some DIY. Well, DH is doing some DIY whilst I pretend to be useful Grin

SecondCupOfTea · 23/07/2015 14:26

MrsT I'll also be 7+5 when I have the private scan and I have mixed feelings about it. I realise that it'd be better to wait for the reassurance of the 12 week scan, but I have some career-related 'deadlines' that mean I need to tell my employer in the next 3 weeks or so.

Sorry to sound cryptic but I don't want to out myself! Basically, my career path for the next couple of years (including academic study) needs to be rejigged before the start of the next academic year (or I could lose a few thousand pounds in fees), and that requires my employer knowing. I'd rather not announce until after 12 weeks but I don't have the luxury of waiting, so I'm going to check for a heartbeat and go from there.

SkyWasMadeOfAmethyst · 23/07/2015 14:29

Afternoon all. Checking in to say Pom POM's are going for la. Have just been to ENT and had a scope up the hooter. Hurt like a xxxx and specialist concludeconcluded what I've known all along. My GP doesn't give me strong enough antibiotics... I also have a deviated septum. Isn't that the excuse everyone gives for rhinoplasty? Luckily, I like my nose fine as it is. Managed to have a fight with DP over him letting me down about picking up DD from school. I nearly cried listening to Taylor Swift this morning so is possible it is me being unreasonable.

CarrotPuff · 23/07/2015 14:43

La I hope you're having some good rest Flowers

I didn't do NCT, my NHS ones were ok, but you can find all information you need online these days. There are books too. I've heard that people join NCT mainly for social reasons.

auf 147 is almost triple of 50, so it's looking very good Smile

MrsT the booking in appt is really just that - taking bloods, weight, bp, medical history. My DP only came to scans, although I would have liked him to come to 16w appt where they listen to hb for the first time.

Had a 2h nap and now feeling almost human. DS woke up at 5.30 this morning Confused Still haven't done much today...

Oh and I'm 7w today!

Purpleball · 23/07/2015 15:15

I had an early scan at 7 weeks and saw the heartbeat. Didn't hear it til 10 weeks though.
I had an early MC last time so I wanted the reassurance that there was no MMC. I know a few people where they've found out at the 12 week that its stopped developing and then had to have medical management. Physically the early MC wasn't traumatic, emotionally it was.
Once you have seen a heartbeat the chances of MC are very low so it was worth the £99 and once we'd had it we told family, close friends and my boss and made them all keep quiet.

Purpleball · 23/07/2015 15:17

Tattoo if your dates are right then you will see a heartbeat.
You'll also know if it's a BOGOF as someone I know referred to twins as recently, although they won't guarantee as early on there's a small chance of one hiding apparently

teejayem · 23/07/2015 15:37

Ohh.. Arse rain is diarrhoea.
Other bum terminology;
Jezzas/Jeremy Kyles = haemorrhoids
Acid foof = the abundance of CM during pregnancy which will bleach your knickers white unless pantiliners are used
Nfma= news from my arse
NFMF = news from my foof/Fanjo/fanoir

There's got to be more, I just seem to have porridge baby brain and can't think of them.

Jcandy · 23/07/2015 15:58

Just checking in to say that babycandy is awkward! Was in completely the wrong position in my scan so had to do lots of jumping up and down, walking around and chocolate eating that bit wasn't so bad to make it move. Thanks thankfully it did finally to a position where the scan could continue but was upside down. I'll put the not so great pics on fb in a bit Smile everything is all fine though and we are team surprise Grin

Aufwiedersehenpetrarch · 23/07/2015 16:07

Team surprise is my favourite team! Go candy!
Thanks for the uhm arse rain and other explanations picks up study guide to grad viroiding
carrot I'm obviously a numpty. I thought that if it is eg 20 on day 1 it would be 40 on day to and 80 on day three and 160 on day four etc. so doubling on itself every 24hrs? but maybe I'm wrong yes! Hmm
sky that's sounds rather uncomfy. Boo-oo for hooterscopes! Sad

jellypi3 · 23/07/2015 16:23

tee you forgot swamp foof, which is also used synonomously with acid foof. There are others i'm sure, i've just got a bad case of baby brain right now

ChatEnOeuf · 23/07/2015 16:44

Auf HCG should roughly double every 48 hours. Yours sounds great giblets

We did NCT with DD (NHS classes were suspended over the summer so we could either do them at about 24 weeks or 38 weeks). It was useful for meeting people, who were very nice although we lost contact a bit once we started going back to work.

Team surprise is the best JC :)

CarrotPuff · 23/07/2015 16:46

Auf it should double every 48h, that's why they do them 2 days apart. I'm sure someone else will confirm this?

Just had a choc doughnut. I will be a size of a small house by the end of this pregnancy!

oneyorkshirepud · 23/07/2015 17:03

Yey for 7 weeks Carrot!

I am EXHAUSTED. It has taken me all day to dust the house (and I don't live in a mansion!) And now I am in bed. Fucsake Angry

Fleurchamp · 23/07/2015 17:18

I enjoyed my nct classes and have made some friends already (we have bonded over nipple pain).

BUT if I had limited funds I wouldn't bother. They didn't really teach you anything much about caring for a baby - we had about 3 hours to cover everything. We learnt nothing that isn't available in books or the internet.

NHS classes in our area are hugely oversubscribed - I contacted them at 20 weeks and was told the next available classes were at weeks 38 and 39 - I would have missed the second class!

However, my teacher did introduce us to natal hypnotherapy (she also teaches this) for which I will be forever grateful.

Lastly, we spent about £270 on nct classes (London) and I am just about to spend about £150 on a maternity nurse for the day to come in and go through what I am doing to suggest some things re breast feeding and sleeping etc. So, if you have concerns about how to look after the baby once home you could look at this route ( this person has already been in to 2 of my nct group and has rave reviews). I think actually doing things in reality is very different to the theory.

MrsTattoo · 23/07/2015 17:27

Thanks for the info ladies.
I think I will go for it and just pay the £80, I want to know that everything is ok and I think seeing a heartbeat/blob might help DH realise this is really happening haha! :)

goodnessgraciousgouda · 23/07/2015 18:02

MrsTattoo - I think it would be worth compromising with your DH and ask that he comes to all the appointments with scans, but that you play it by ear for all the others. There's genuinely no point him being there for the vast majority of appointments, and if you have to work around his shifts as well it just sounds like a massive PITA!

My DH has come to every appointment with me, but that's in case I misunderstand something the doctor has said, or I need him to translate something. Otherwise his presence would be totally pointless. The scans are another matter though! He really loves seeing them.
