Hiya - just thought an alternative place for those of us on our 2nd or more pregnancies might be a good idea. I just found out and already it's very different than the first time!

I'm on #2, EDD 25/3/16, one DS 2yrs and 2 months.

Raeside - I think it is tricky if pregnant/announcing with people doing IVF or struggling to conceive. I took yrs to have dc1, and had IVF. It was a tough time and we hid it by pretending we did not want children for years. I appreciated being told by the pregnant person though rather than just seeing a bump or someone else telling me if it helps. After nearly years to conceive dc2 ( sadly a stillbirth) It was much harder to hear other people's good news I am ashamed to say.

Hope your scan goes well Sebs and you have good news to post.

welcome to all new people - hope early weeks go well for you.

This week plucked up the courage to ring the hospital as had not yet had review due to our loss. Ended up having review today and a plan of action to help this pregnancy, so hope they pick things up sooner. Scarily, the Dr wanted to do an early scan despite me thinking I am 4+5. Now very worried - saw an 11mm gestational sac but no yolk sac or Fetal pole. Dated 5 weeks. Worried now it was so big yet empty. Not had such an early scan before. Has anyone had scans before 6 weeks and had good news ( even if on a 2nd scan)? got another scan at 8 weeks and then 12 week one will be booked after that one if all goes well. Now injecting clexane daily! Start aspirin at 12 weeks and am on steroids and progesterone pessaries.

Raeside · 22/07/2015 22:31

Nothing not trying be ashamed of at all Rooibus - I'm so sad for your loss. And thank you for the advice, too. I'm not much of an announcer, just St told people as we saw them with DS1, no big social media announcements this time either!

Good luck with your scans, Sebs !!

Oh I just read your scan stuff, Rooibus - I'm not great at this but I'm sure it's just too early. Will they have you back on n 3 weeks or so? Maybe it's a nice big gestational sac getting ready for twins!

Agree not a social media announcer here either. Seeing scan pics of others was the hardest for me during ivf years!!We will not tell anyone at all until after a clear 12 week scan.
Yes got a scan in 3.5weeks. I jokingly told dh twins as I feel so nauseous ( did not in last 2 pregnancies) but I doubt it.

hufflebottom · 22/07/2015 23:52

Rooibos, don't over think it (easier said than done) I had a scan at 5+something before I had dd and nothing showed, the wrote it off as a chemical pregnancy i went back for another a few weeks later and showed I was 9 weeks. Have got everything crossed for you and hoping.

mrsnec · 23/07/2015 06:08

Hi all, I agree about announcing. We've only told both sets of parents so far and dh didn't even really want to do that because he thinks it's jinx everything.

We told his mum first because it was her birthday and he couldn't think of anything to buy her and then I told my mum because I had my first consultant appointment and I didn't like the idea of going to hospital and her not knowing. I was worried though because my parents had been spending time with my other siblings who have various fertility issues and I didn't want to steal anyone's thunder so waited until they were on their own.

When we were ttc I found announcements very painful. I alienated myself from friends because of it and then I found people distance themselves from me when I announced too but it's so difficult. The one we lost we announced early although not on fb.we actually had family members telling us it's our fault for announcing early. I chose to announce early then because I felt I would need support if anything went wrong and when it did people didn't know what to say anyway.

I had some friends who thought they needed to tell me face to face before they did the fb announcement and I thought that was worse. Like rubbing my face in it.

I did a big fb announcement for dd after I'd got the all clear from the diagnostics. I was about 18 weeks by that point and got the cliché 4d scan that looks like she's giving a thumbs up and I wanted the world to see it!

No idea how it's going to pan out this time just telling who we need to when we need to makes sense. Everyone knows my weight is always all over the place so if we go out and I'm not drinking I just say I'm on one of my health kicks because I've been over indulging lately.

Totally get everyone nervous about early scans. The one I lost I saw an empty screen at what I thought was 10 weeks and ever since I've wanted to wait until after that point. So I wasn't expecting to see anything this time at 7 weeks. And I told the consultant I thought I'd been booked in too early.

LastOneDancing · 23/07/2015 08:10

Good luck sebs

Great news indomitable!

Rooibus I'm so sorry to hear about your previous loss and hope the scan hasn't made you too anxious - I can't bear scans personally and it's all so unclear when they do them in these early weeks... everything crossed for twins Smile

Mrs couldn't help but smile at you telling your DM instead of a present Grin way better than a scarf or chocolate!

RooibosTeaAgain · 23/07/2015 08:22

Huffle thanks for encouragement about your early scan

Mrsn - a baby announcement is a great present!

Lastone - sadly our loss has made scans ( that have any chance of any worry) an anxious time. I never expected the dr to scan me yesterday. Next scan is at Early pregnancy unit with a sonographer so hoping there is a heartbeat then.

Is anyone going on holiday ( aware school hols if you have children at school age)?

ThursdayLast · 23/07/2015 08:27

Morning all.

It's too early in the morning for Justins House.

mrsnec · 23/07/2015 08:36

I agree about early scans. I didn't hear the heart beat yet but I didn't expect to so my previous experience definitely helps but I am not a fan of scans either but I have to get used to it because they do them monthly here and fortnightly after 30 weeks!

It was mil who's birthday it was. She's very difficult to buy for. I think a scarf or chocolate might have gone down better as she didn't actually say anything but has offered to help more with dd so at least that's something.

Holiday wise we are having a couple of days in a beach cabin type thing that's about 3 hours drive from here. I don't fancy flying. I did at 26 weeks last time and I was a nervous wrek.whilst we were away too and about really stupid things. We were thinking of going back to the UK for Xmas too but I'm sacking that idea for now.

ThursdayLast · 23/07/2015 09:19

I've never had any experience of early scans. I can only imagine how terrifying they are.

DH & I went on our honeymoon thus spring so that's our holidays done for the next three or four years Wink

sebsmummy1 · 23/07/2015 09:56

I have had quite a few early scans with mixed results. My understanding is that a heartbeat should be seen once your HCG level hits a certain number range. I can't remember what that number range is though. There are certainly lots and lots of stories on the web about early scans showing just a sac and subsequent scans showing a heatbeat, fetal pole etc.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm thinking the worst because it feels safer than having hope. Fingers crossed for everyone else with worries at the moment xx

hufflebottom · 23/07/2015 11:12

Anyone want a grumpy 5 year old for the day?! Going free, is housetrained (slightly!)

Love her to bits but it's only the first week of the summer hols and I've told her we have 6 weeks to do everything but she wants to do it now so is having a grump about it.

SunnyL · 23/07/2015 15:22

Never had an early scan. Phoned up for my booking appointment today though and NHS Lothian are so efficient I also got my dates for the scan. Booking appt at 10 weeks and scan at 12 weeks.

Just a weeks holiday with the ILs before that - going to be blindingly obvious when I don't pile into the white wine!

LastOneDancing · 23/07/2015 18:34

Will you tell them Sunny? That is very efficient. Got my booking next week and IIRC the scan app comes swiftly after so not too bad here.

Raeside · 23/07/2015 19:01

Things at C&W have changed since I was there with J - I walked right past it on Tuesday when there for his appt so I tempted fate and went in and did the form-filling. Nowadays they offer you the booking in and scan on the same day, as far as possible....so I guess that's relatively late? I know last time I was booked in at about 8-9 weeks.

stupidgirl45 · 23/07/2015 19:57

First time round I messaged friends who I knew were having issues before then being one of those people who put a scan pic on FB.

This time round, I told a very close friend straight away, face to face as I felt in our relationship, it would be better than email. She was fine with it but I was terrified telling her. We told family and I had to tell work due to horrendous sickness/ante-natal depression. otherwise I did a subtle mention on an FB status at 13 weeks.

Because of my depression, it helps to post on FB and have lots of people be excited because I feel so low and it reminds me that this is a good thing, a happy thing and I will be happy again. I know that sounds daft and that a lot of people don't like FB announcements.

I had my booking in at 8 wks, scan at 12 but here you have to apply for your scan as soon as you get a "pack" from the GP. When I was in london at St Thomases I had community midwives who did everything for you - including coming to your home for booking in. They were amazing.

Sorry to hear people are still struggling with any nausea or tiredness. I've got a throat lurgy my DS has kindly shared with me so feeling v. sorry for myself.

Ugh pregnancy seems to drag on. Onwards and upwards I guess....it's almost august!

14+1

SunnyL · 23/07/2015 20:49

Last time I told people when I saw them (apart from parents and siblings who I phoned). I had a complete moratorium on social media because I'm from a v medical family who are incredibly superstitious about unborn babies. My dad was a GP and won't get excited until the baby is out and is healthy. I think over the course of his career he's seen enough.

It meant that the first a lot of people heard about me being pregnant was when I posted the picture of new baby on FB.

I doubt I'll be as superstitious this time but we'll see. Just need to hide it from work as long as possible Wink

mayaknew · 23/07/2015 22:14

sebsmummy1 · 24/07/2015 12:57

Good luck for everyone due scans soon xx

RooibosTeaAgain · 24/07/2015 18:26

Great news Sebsmummy and not long til your 12 week scan.

Poetschild · 24/07/2015 22:38

Hope it's ok to say hello on here. 11+2 and DD1 is 13 months old. Cautiously hoping this is a chilled and supportive group Smile

Raeside · 25/07/2015 08:50

Hi and welcome PoetsChild - yes chilled is the go. I started the thread as the usual antenatal clubs were bit OTT for me, particularly in light of fact it's not a first pregnancy....!
