Hiya - just thought an alternative place for those of us on our 2nd or more pregnancies might be a good idea. I just found out and already it's very different than the first time!

I'm on #2, EDD 25/3/16, one DS 2yrs and 2 months.

OP posts:

RooibosTeaAgain · 10/09/2015 08:28

Smirking - yes I always planned to go back but when I got my bro I wanted to get to 12 weeks before I did. Have to give 3 weeks notice. I can roll 2 maternity leaves over but my maternity pay for next one would be very low as my income for 2 qualifying months would be just SMP. If I go back I would get pay for one of the months and a bit of pay for the other! So better than nothing! More importantly I want to show willing, yes. Also after a late loss am struggling to believe I will bring a baby home so need a distraction.

EDD is now 24th March so 12 weeks today.

Seriously need to find clothes that fit. Has anyone found any non maternity clothes good for this stage in the shops as my maternity clothes are too big. Tops are ok it is trousers! I wish shops stocked maternity clothes - big change from when last bought them. I am not sure what size I need ( in between!) and do not wish to pay postage for returns/delivery. Not an issue before as was smlaller size and my next size up clothes fitted! But carrying 1-1.5st of last pregnancy weight so nearer a 16. Eek!

Anyone bought any new maternity clothes they would recommend or shops that are worth looking at?

RooibosTeaAgain · 10/09/2015 08:28

Bfp not bro ( autocorrect nightmare!)

ThursdayLastWeek · 10/09/2015 08:55

I have a full wardrobe of maternity clothes (well, sort of) that i got from ebay.
The overbump trousers are too big yet, but damn are they comfortable!

Smirkingpicnicbasket · 10/09/2015 09:12

Rooibos having the distraction of work will help and the pay obviously. I took SMP last time as we relocated so I didn't go back to my job and didn't want to pay any money back. It wasn't too bad but then again I am lucky that we could cover all our bills etc on the money we had coming in, just meant that we didn't have much disposable income - luckily DD didn't go without though being the first grandchild we've hardly had to pay for anything!! But you need to weigh it up, money and distraction vs. stress of work and pregnancy - and also what you plan to do afterwards.

I bought some new maternity clothes and it felt so good, there's me saying we don't have much disposable income and I spent ??50 on a pair of H&M maternity jeans but they are lovely (just means i'm eating beans for the rest of the pregnancy!), all the other pairs of jeans were not long enough in the body and the stretchy material was half way down my bum! I also got a lovely denim shirt, 2 t shirts and a sweater. I also ordered a lovely Next dress on ebay for ??3 - bargain. I'm also at a size 16 (and 6ft tall) so I am the BFG at the moment but trying not to get too wound up about it!

Hope everyone is well, my sickness appears to have gone, not felt rough for over a week! Managed to take DD swimming on Monday and a long walk plus messy play on Tuesday [smiley face]

marmitemofo · 10/09/2015 09:18

rooibos asos.com are good for maternity jeans and although online only they do free returns so not too much hassle. I sometimes buy two sizes and send back what doesn't fit. Annoyingly, I'm between sizes at the moment. After dd I lost the pregnancy weight but my shape changed - bigger tummy but smaller legs and bum. So my size 12 maternity jeans don't fit as they are baggy on my legs but size 10 are a bit small. Living in my maternity dresses at the moment as they are a bit more flexible size wise.

RooibosTeaAgain · 10/09/2015 11:11

Thanks - and great you in comfy clothes Thur - that is what I need now, comfy!
Smirking my maternity jeans and trousers are a 14 and think will need a 16 bearing in mind normal 16 jeans do not do up at the button but fit elsewhere! but am not a 16 top which is a pain for dresses!
thanks for that link marmite - not used Asos before and yes would probably need to order two sizes to get the right fit, so free returns is useful. know Mamas and Papas you have to pay and they hardly had any stock in store when looked last year.

ThursdayLastWeek · 10/09/2015 11:21

Ooh lovely, got my maternity exemption cad in the post today - time for the second trimester uti methinks Grin

RooibosTeaAgain · 10/09/2015 14:13

Great - but hope you do not need to use it.
I have not got mine yet as not yet seen a midwife! Tried to book one today but the receptionist said she is only allowed to book the 1hr slot booking in ones and I do not need one of those just a 20min 16 week one so have to wait for the midwife to pick up her message and phone me. However I have my notes from the hospital but not had a booking in slot yet! As she only does that one day a week for our area means will not know until next week and if she is on holiday/course/ill then 2 weeks! ( Can you tell I am used to this!!) Receptionist helpfully told me there were no appointment slots left anyway.

Brindler · 11/09/2015 09:04

Hi ladies! Hope you're all well. I'm still not feeling like this whole thing is real - I think it's because I'm feeling so normal at the moment! I just can't wait to start feeling movements - I've heard it starts earlier with seconds. Has anyone found this to be true yet?

Qwertybynature · 11/09/2015 15:40

Oddly enough Brindler I was wondering the same. I felt a weird 'popping' sensation the other evening, it was really localised and very near to where the sonographer scanned the other day. It felt like the first kicks but on a micro-level. Didn't have any wind either!

I'm only 12 wks though, so I've convinced myself it's in my head. Haven't felt it since.

Also, first world problem. I'm on holiday next week (for two weeks). My jeans are getting a bit tight but I'm not big enough for maternity yet. If you were me, what would you pack (it's only south of France so not scorching heat either).

Do you have a community midwife team you can contact Rooibus? Your receptionist sounds a bit 'computer-says-no'.

Tiredoftiredness · 11/09/2015 17:20

Hi all

Hope everyone's ok? Very jealous of the upcoming holiday qwerty!

Had a MW appt earlier and hear the HB for the first time, yay! Also getting some def kicks now at 18 weeks- think I first felt them at about 15 brindler but couldn't decide if it was kicks or grumbly belly!

SunnyL · 11/09/2015 17:32

I'm still in my jeggings. Helps that I'm incapable of buying clothes that actually fit me so generally still got room in most of my jeans yet.

I'm sure the game must be up at work. I'm normally all about my dresses and heels. Haven't worn anything except jeans and trainers since I got pregnant.

Qwertybynature · 11/09/2015 18:10

Tired what a lovely start to your weekend.

I'm looking forward to going but really can't be bothered packing. And I'm a crap flyer, I usually have a glass of wine before I fly so not looking forward to being stone cold sober! I sound like a real bundle of fun don't I? Grin

hufflebottom · 11/09/2015 20:14

I'm trying to find the enthusiasm to do anything at the moment.
Have gone through dd's old baby clothes and found lots of unisex sleep suits. That's a start. Just after nearly 5 and half years im having to get stuff again as I sold or gave away a fair bit of my stuff

Really not looking forward to work as I'm still waiting for maternity uniform.

RooibosTeaAgain · 14/09/2015 14:24

Holiday sounds great qwerty

Anyone have a scan this week?

Tired - having movements sounds great!

Qwertybynature · 14/09/2015 15:38

Not sure if anyone on here is in the Manchester area but just to warn you the Trafford centre shops don't stock maternity (with the exception of a tiny section in h&m). Just thought I'd save anyone else the embarrassment of huffing and puffing around the shops and flouncing off home when they can't find anything Angry

SunnyL · 14/09/2015 18:13

Ivergot my first scan on Wednesday. 50% bricking it 50% excited.

I tried to do the shopping thing last time. Was in London with work and had a rare afternoon off. Walked the whole length of oxford street and could only find maternity wear in mothercare!

Qwertybynature · 14/09/2015 21:10

Hope Wednesday comes around quickly for you Sunny. I felt the same, the longer I had to wait the more nervous I felt.

I'm just going to raid asos I think, hopefully my shopping rage will kept at bay Grin

CarrotPuff · 15/09/2015 13:31

Good luck with the scan tomorrow Sunny!

I've felt some pops and prods last week (at 14 weeks) and now feeling them almost every day if I sit/lay still. Also had my first BHs a couple days ago.

16w MW appt this Friday, looking forward to hearing the heart beat!

hufflebottom · 15/09/2015 14:19

Oooo exciting Carrot. I've got my midwife appointment in Thursday.

RooibosTeaAgain · 15/09/2015 15:20

Good luck for Wed Sunny

Well today I picked up a pair of maternity jeans ( online obv, Next) which have just a narrow band. I am now wearing them! Doubt they will last long but needed something that fitted and over bump just fell down ( last time was size smaller so just wore my bigger clothes and first time my muscles were slightly better at working I think!)

My midwife apt is at 15 weeks as no slots left for when I am 16 weeks so no doubt they will say it is too early to listen to heartbeat Sad. But current midwife is moving and midwife replacing her ( think team move around!) is one I had with dc1. One I lost has zero empathy - ie dos not even say sorry your second child died, just ignored it but one replacing her, well lEast said about that! So wondering how easy it is to get a private midwife and what the cost is - just for ante natal checks? Doubt any near us though! Either that or just not have any as with this midwife there is no point!

RooibosTeaAgain · 15/09/2015 15:20

Carrot that is exciting!

hufflebottom · 15/09/2015 16:06

Rooibos have you thought about having your checks with Gp. I ended up with gp when I couldn't book with my midwife.

CarrotPuff · 15/09/2015 16:20

Roiboos I have those kind of jeans from Next, I actually wore them till the end, but then my bump wasn't very big. They were great post partum too!

I've not got anything maternity out yet (although I only have 2 pairs of jeans!), but I'm not really showing yet, which I'm very surprised about, as I don't quite have steel abs...

ThursdayLastWeek · 15/09/2015 16:31

Hello everyone, hope we're all good?

DS is driving up the fricking wall every damn day at the moment - poor little lad thinks he has such a hard life Hmm

Got my consultant appt. in a fortnight, and my next MW appt the following day - and I'm booked in for my second scan end of Oct...when the NHS finally get moving they really get moving don't they?!

Hardly any sickness any more, but bone crushing tiredness
