Hiya - just thought an alternative place for those of us on our 2nd or more pregnancies might be a good idea. I just found out and already it's very different than the first time!

I'm on #2, EDD 25/3/16, one DS 2yrs and 2 months.

Would a consultant led unit basically be a hospital?
I was induced last time and had constant care in the hospital - the antenatal and labour care were as good as could be, the post natal ward was busy and hot though. Not an enjoyable experience, but I was there for rather longer than the norm.

I have nothing to compare though sorry.

I have only recently discovered what PPH means, and I'm not sure if that's what I had too? I just say I lost a lot of blood during my EMCS, but that's a PPH right? I mean it was serious enough I needed a transfusion!

God, the more I think about it, the more I want an ELCS Grin

Morning.

Huffle, currently DC2 is also due 3 days before DS' 5th birthday. I'm hoping the dating scan widens the gap.

Have asked DH to bring me tea & toast in bed. I feel terrible and don't want to risk being upright until I've eaten.
I'm pretty sure he's forgotten about me.

Trinpy · 05/08/2015 10:32

My ds is only 16 months (he will be 23.5 months when the baby is due) so I've obviously not said anything to him yet as he wouldn't have a clue what I was on about! I'm not really sure how to prepare him for the baby coming tbh. I thought about getting some books to read to him about new babies. We're also considering giving him a baby doll for Christmas so he can start to understand what a baby is/does and we can teach him how to be gentle with it, etc. I'm not sure how much he's going to understand though.

Thursday they are both in the hospital. In the hosp. I delivered DS in in London, there was a huge difference - the birth centre rooms were large with double beds, pools, balls and en suite bathrooms with no visible medical equipment whilst the obstetric unit rooms were small and looked terrifyingly medical to me (during a tour).

But here they are talking about consultant-led unit and midwife-led units and now I'm confused, if there are pools in both I guess there's not a massive difference. I think I need to go and have a look.

Yes, I would say you had a PPH. Horrible isn't it? I didn't qualify for a transfusion as I 'only' lost 1000ml but my HB was so low, I could barely move for weeks, had a horrible stay in the postnatal ward too.
The midwife today said up here they would have given me a transusion based on symptoms not HB levels. Much more sensible!

Ah I see, down here there are two MLUs I think, that are attached to small injuries units or the like. The main hospital is where the maternity unit is - where scans are done and the ante natal wards etc

I think that's how I got my new blood actually, symptoms. I got it on the Thursday or Friday after DS was born on Monday Shock.

Fuck. Why am I pregnant again?

lutrinae · 05/08/2015 11:30

A terrible trick the brain/body has played on us.

I think I would need to actually lose my mind to consider a third.

Raeside · 05/08/2015 18:04

I'm sure I wasn't this ropey this early on last time. In fact I distinctly recall feeling smug about not getting nauseous till post- 8 weeks. Idiot. I'm on the ginger beer.....cooking DS's supper is a grim exercise in tolerance.

hufflebottom · 05/08/2015 20:13

Indomitable, I'm hoping the same. It should add a couple more weeks. I hope.

SunnyL · 05/08/2015 20:14

I definitely wasn't this grim last time. Last time I got a little bit nauseous amd all it took was a gingernut or 2. This time? Fuck knows other than time.

Q - if you noticed your colleague munching on dry crackers would you automatically assume they were pregnant?

Raeside · 05/08/2015 20:25

Sunny if be quite suspicious! I've felt super grim all afternoon, couldn't figure out why. I ate lunch at 1230, nothing till supper just now. Am bloody idiot. Putting crackers on shopping list right now.

Probably, but wouldn't say anything Smile

SunnyL · 05/08/2015 21:12

They're fake krackawheat ones from Lidl Rae - sadly one wasn't enough so I had a few 6 more

ThursdayLast · 05/08/2015 21:27

Ooh yum sunny. The saltier the better I find.

LastOneDancing · 06/08/2015 08:43

Morning all.
Sunny you made me smile - I have just been on an emergency dash to tesco express for tuc crackers. I need salty carby snacks.

Yesterday I ate a bag of pom bears and a huge bag of hula hoops on my drive home Sad I really really dont want to get massively fat this time but my craving for salt is unbearable!

ThursdayLast · 06/08/2015 09:18

I'm exactly the same with salty carbs. I don't even care if I get fat because I remembered it easing off a lot after 1st trimester.

Just spoke to me MW and I've got my booking appt. next Thursday Smile
Not same MW as last time, but also not a former friend who has been community MW at that surgery before so PHEW

hufflebottom · 06/08/2015 10:06

Thought I was the only one craving carbs. Off to the beach today. So going to have some chips

SunnyL · 06/08/2015 11:40

CHIPS! Envy

Raeside · 06/08/2015 12:05

OMG I'm off to the chippy soon as I have a shower. What a bloody marvellous suggestion!

SunnyL · 06/08/2015 12:41

I just got chips from the canteen for lunch. They're great Grin

They were the nicest chips in ages. Might have been helped by the sun, sea and sand. Smile

hufflebottom · 06/08/2015 23:49

Having a real shitty night tonight, can't get comfortable. I feel uncomfortable. And sleep isn't coming for the third night this week.

SunnyL · 07/08/2015 08:46

I'm struggling with insomnia as well. Waking up every night between 2 and 4 and taking ages to go back to sleep. I usually take a sleep tablet once a week to guarantee at least 1 nights good sleep but obviously can't now.

I'm also having the weirdest dreams. Last night I was snogging the 24 year old junior in my office but decided he wasn't as good as DH. For the record I don't fancy the 24 year old!

hufflebottom · 07/08/2015 09:32

Was it a good dream though?

SunnyL · 07/08/2015 17:55

Not really - he wasn't a good kisser and i woke up feeling guilty Angry
